Jacquemus Makes a Comeback with "Les Sculptures"
Following the recent Jacquemus show “Le ChouChou” that was partly inspired by French nobility and partly Princess Diana, the latter could only be seen in a chunky necklace that is reminiscent to the one Diana would wear in her iconic 1994 “Revenge Dress,” I was left feeling a little hollow by the popular French designer. If you are going to honor a fashion icon like Princess Diana, I would much rather you commit to the bit than try and incorporate dead royalty that nobody particularly cared for; which I feel the need to add that the "let them eat cake" is historically inaccurate and one of the reasons why that show feels shallow. In comparison to Simon's previous shows such as “Le coupe de Soleil” that was set in a field of lilacs and featured a purple carpet for the models to walk down as well as Le Splash, which made me grow more in appreciation for Simon. I was let down tremendously from the Le ChouChou show and didn't know what to expect. However, the moment Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’ started up and I saw Gigi walk down in a creme trench coat baby I was hooked. I was confused as to what Simon knew about Marvin Gaye but that music knowledge worked in his favor and I can say that I was not disappointed.
Cohesive coloring. That’s what comes to mind as I get deeper into the show. One of my favorite things about Jacquemus is that he lets your burgundy’s stay with your burgundy’s and your blues with the blues. There is no real attempt in crossing or meshing colors that do not need to be meshed often done by other designers, in a horrendous, god-awful way that leaves you laughing to the point of tears, much like Naomi Campbell in the 2013 show, "The Face", if you will allow me to be funny. However, that is not the case here with Simon and his team of stylist, who due to their clear eye and God-given talents, can have a small array of colors come down the runway in a beautiful mirage of reds, cremes, beiges, grays, Blacks and whites. The pieces molded and shaped by the designer to resemble, in my interpretation of course, the sculptures that can come from clothes is both unique and charming. The models, exemplifying both traits, gives me everything that I need and more. The inclusion of the divine feminine and masculine in shows is something that I love to see and particularly with Simon, he is one of the very few designers who captures both essences. A masculine Asian model comes down gripping a shoulder bag styled with a white evening shirt and Black dress pants sends me into orbit with the amount of swag that he has,. The clothes not so much, but the model wears them in a smooth Argylle manner. The real show stopper however, comes in the form of a dark-skinned feminine model, covered by a white veil and dressed in a silk gown that flowed so beautifully around her. She exuded so much elegance and beauty while showing no face is just a level of couth that only Simon and his casters could have. The epitome of "No face, no case." The model and piece making such an impression with Simon that he probably felt no choice but to allow her to close the show. Solidifying and being the sole reason Jacquemus and his team to receive their tens from me and live to see another season. Mwah, no bars💋.
If I can give a note though, the title ‘Les Sculptures’ seems to be an ode to making art out of fashion, showcasing garments as sculptures. My thought is and will always be, like with many other designers and shows that attempt a similar feat, why do you not cast more full-sized models to be apart of these shows Simon? Pictured below is one model, but if tailoring on certain garments is suppose to emulate or accentuate the human frame, it would only make sense to have the inclusion of more full-sized models to help enhance that sculpturesque theme. Especially as popular as Jacquemus is among celebrity circles and mainstream media. Most notably be named dropped in Amine and Kaytranada's song “4eva” where Amine raps,
“I see you gettin' wetter through your Jacquemus jeans. My forevеr is forever, can't let nothin' comе between.”
I blushed too don't worry, but I don’t think all your high-profile clients are petite sized or like their women petite sized, so I believe that if you’re going to do a theme or nod to this then you should, again, commit to that bit.
Overall, after the horribly misunderstood show that was Le ChouChou; Simon you made up for it greatly with ‘Les Sculptures’. From the tailoring to the perfect flow of colors and models; I am telling you right now, that closing model is not real and definitely something to try and beat. Jacquemus, you may have just made the ultimate comeback in my eyes. I look forward to what you bring next.

seeing a lot of lovely haute couture on the dash so i want to lob in my own two cents on muses in relevant fandom:
ada has expensive taste, but does not wear designer clothing into the field. could you even imagine that level of filth on a genuine mcqueen? she'd die of shame. fortunately, she has a hook-up who does counterfeits. the authentic pieces are at home, the mission wardrobe just passes for the real thing.
danae lives and dies in mugler. she saw a gown in the fall 1983 collection and was furious that at 12 she couldn't wear it. a cursory glance at her wardrobe reveals over $100k of the designer's vintage works -- all bought new or tailored to suit our lady spencer. if she's not in something fashionable and expensive, she's naked.
sh*va likes fashion well enough, but it isn't really a priority. i've always slotted her as slightly more of a grown tomboy, certain questionable unlockable outfits aside. perfectly professional and stylish, but not devoted to trends or names. prefers quality over prestige, but won't turn her nose up if she finds a good deal.
chris and billy purchase a gallon of tank tops at costco for 12 dollars and are set for the year. chris maybe hits up an athletic store, but only a markdown outlet, for his silly breathable tops. billy doesn't even make it that far. his jeans are crusty. chris only develops fashion sense as an old man. he's cosplaying his former boss anyway.
marvin was fashionable! he couldn't really go big or go home given his salary/the economy, but he got by. exquisite 90s drip. iconic leather jacket, some sturdy denim. the vibe i get off the city isn't a very cutting edge one, but he did what he could with what was on hand. was not going to pay for a name, though.

I'd love to know more about An Accident and/or THE DARK CARNIVAL IS COMING BACK TO TOWN (let's not keep the TGSU line title) because I Love those names (feel free to only elaborate on 1 ofc)
both will definitely be it An Accident (and it's still a wip title) is a story I have yet to write so it's more of just a couple notes. It's got an unnamed "virus" (as in computer program virus not biological ones) kind of just... stuck between 3 different devices in a single room, although more mainly an old-fashioned radio with bad sound quality. The audio as it talks is taken from words and noises from radio stations all around the globe to form it's sentences, which I could make an audio of, one day, if I have the motivation, as well as it's tv appearance having it's "body" on-screen formed by also constantly shifting people from channels all around the globe... anyways, that thing (I may make a proper description latter) interacts with the people around it. And one of them is a young man (that used to be a tma oc lol) of which it... kind of wants to take his body. Not easy being stuck in a radio on a desk in an office when you have knowledge from all around the world about so many different things. Hence why on the computer screen (given the 3 devices are radio-tv-computer) it only appears as a tiny icon of him, appearing as a chatbot, constantly on the bottom right of the screen and the icon changing expression with each message it sends, also making the message pop up next to te icon. aside from that in the notes there's nothing much more to elaborate on except from a final note that says that if it does manage to go into a body of flesh and blood, it'll just terribly hurt as a computer program doesn't go into a brain, and it doesn't know weight or pressure or any of the senses, and pain. It did not expect pain. It did not like it but it was stuck in the body, now. Onto the next, actually I told you about that one already Char-lie; basically a Creature Feature fanfic (technically short story) based on, well, The Greatest Show Unearthed (and The Greatest Show Unearthed Returns). For a quick context giver: Ringmaster Calvin Scotts died in his own carnival so it closed and about 2 decades later it's back with a slightly (very) demented (not-so-)man as it's ringmaster, one that calls himself Carvin (no last name) and kind of just having fun traumatizing/killing kids on there. Anyways, basically just some guy that visited it years back, had seemingly not too much issues with it in life with some therapy, starts back to think about it. Not while awake tho, every night he just finds himself standing back on the dry grounds of the carnival with a green sky and sickly yellow clouds. And that dreadful ringmaster standing before him again, well, not really, he doesn't quite remember what the man looked like. (ps slight eye body horror ahead) In his dreams he'd have a grey/green tint and one eye missing, the same vines all over the place also coming out of the hole and a few other parts, including his hat. The things called itself Carvin in real life, but in those dreams it's Marvin, the guy doesn't even remember his name right. So he kinds of just... gets haunted by the carnival in his dreams.

The Cultural Significance: Motown Beyond Music
Intro-
The Motown sound, originating from Detroit, has resonated across North American musical landscapes. As we journey from the heart of Hitsville, U.S.A., Canada's embrace of this legendary genre emerges vividly.
Canada's Connection to Detroit's Motown Era
In the spirited 1960s in Detroit, the Motown Records legend began. Berry Gordy Jr. unveiled a musical sanctuary where iconic melodies took life. Across the border, Canada danced passionately to these Motown rhythms. Experience the legacy live at Legends of Motown’s upcoming events.
The Motown Revolution
Motown wasn't merely a musical movement; it was a powerful cultural tide that reshaped society's fabric. Originating from Detroit, this tidal wave quickly reached international shores, including Canada. While it gifted the world with legends like Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross, its significance lay deeper. For instance, did you know that Motown's timeless hit "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye not only topped the charts but also became an anthem for social justice and change? It was more than a song; it was a call to action, an embodiment of Motown's commitment to addressing societal issues through music. This is just one example of how Motown's influence extended beyond catchy tunes and dance moves, leaving an indelible mark on history.
In the heart of its melodies, Motown carried potent messages, breaking racial barriers and promoting harmony. In North America, with its own mosaic of cultures and races, Motown resonated with this call for unity. One example of how Motown was able to make such a profound impact is through songs like "Dancing in the Street." This Motown classic, originally recorded by Martha and the Vandellas, transcended the dance floor. It became an anthem for civil rights and social change, with its lyrics inspiring people to come together and "put all our differences aside." As Motown songs echoed throughout North American streets and homes, they weren't just tunes; they were anthems of hope and shared humanity. For North Americans, Motown became more than music; it was a beacon in times of change, signaling unity in diversity.
Cherished Icons of Motown
Motown emerged during America's tumultuous civil rights era. Rooted in Detroit's 1960s landscape, it became a beacon of racial integration and harmony. While churning out hit records, Motown's real triumph lay in its ability to transcend racial barriers, offering a platform for Black talent in a segregated industry. In a time of societal upheaval, its melodies offered hope and unity, resonating deeply within communities. As Canada felt these reverberations, it underscored Motown's pivotal role in challenging racial divides and shaping cultural discourse.
Motown's Ripple Effect in Canada
Motown's influence wasn’t restricted to the USA. Canadian cities witnessed Motown stars performing live, and artists such as Joni Mitchell infused Motown elements, acknowledging its profound influence.
Behind Hitsville U.S.A.’s Magic
Hitsville U.S.A., Motown’s birthplace, was where creativity soared. Prolific songwriters sculpted the distinct Motown signature, capturing hearts worldwide, including Canada's.
Motown's Influence Beyond Music
Motown's fashion and dance trends became emblematic of an era. This influence seamlessly seeped into Canadian pop culture, where Motown style and dance became iconic. Dive deeper into its influence with our blog on Motown’s broader impact.
Preserving Motown's Legacy
Canada's love for Motown is undeniable. While global accolades pour in, North Americans continue to relish Motown moments. Legends of Motown strive to keep this vibrant connection alive. Learn more about our Motown-centric offerings.
Conclusion
To Canadians, Motown is a melodic testament, a narrative of inspiration that transcends borders. This sound, deeply rooted in Detroit, found resonance in Canada, and thanks to platforms like Legends of Motown, it continues to thrive.

Black History Month Tribute - Sugar Ray Leonard

Published: February 11, 2023
Ray Charles Leonard, otherwise known to boxing fans as Sugar Ray Leonard, was always destined for greatness. Named after iconic singer Ray Charles and incorporating the great Sugar Ray Robinson moniker, Leonard lived up to the hefty billing.
Leonard’s boyhood idol, Sugar Ray Robinson, was a truly magnificent fighter. If one wished to adopt the “Sugar Ray” moniker, they had to be worthy. Many have tried, but have not lived up to the representation and greatness of the name. Sugar Ray Leonard did. The only other true Sugar Ray.
Ray won a Gold medal as part of the great 1976 US Olympic boxing squad at light welterweight, launching his career in becoming one of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing, a five-weight division champion from welterweight to light-heavyweight, a three-weight lineal champion and undisputed welterweight champion.
In a decade that featured the prime years of Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Julio Cesar Chavez, Larry Holmes, and Mike Tyson, the man named fighter of the decade for the 1980s was Leonard.
Leonard flicked a switch once he entered the ring. In a book named SuperFight by Brian Doogan, detailing the historic showdown between Leonard and Hagler, Tyson starts by stating: “Don’t ever be fooled by the pretty face. Ray Leonard was a pit bull with a pretty face. Outside the ring, he was cute, articulate, smart, great looking, but deep down inside he was a vicious animal. When it comes to this fighting thing, he’s like a monster.”
Many of the greats have one thing in common, which is toughness, and Leonard had that in abundance. Ray took big shots from the likes of Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, and Hagler, all devastating punchers, and never succumbed. Leonard was also perhaps the greatest finisher of all time. Once Ray smelt blood in the water, even if it was in the late championship rounds against all-time elites, he had a special reserve of energy to savagely finish off his beaten opponent.
Alongside his immense toughness and vicious killer’s instinct, he had two-fisted power, the ability to fight equally as effectively on the inside and outside, IQ, reflexes, balance, blinding hand speed, great foot movement, and an innate ability to take advantage of an opponent’s weaknesses like no other. Leonard was one of the greatest all-rounders in boxing history.
Ray was a man who performed his craft with grace but also had the brutishness to seriously hurt opponents and end fights instantly. The perfect blend of grace and savagery.
One does not need to look any further than the brutal stoppages of Andy ‘Hawk’ Price and Davey ‘Boy’ Green to see how savage Leonard really was.
History dictates that a fighter will not be judged solely based on their own ability, but on the ability of the competition they face.
Leonard would have fit into any era and been a stand-out prizefighter, but the stars truly aligned for him to be afforded the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with dance partners such as Duran, Hearns, and Hagler.
These men, the legendary ‘Fabulous Four,’ produced breathtaking, historic nights between them. All four were amongst the greatest fighters of all time and would have held their own in any era in history, but together they immortalized one another. Also, not to mention the criminally underrated and fellow great, essentially the fifth king, Wilfredo “El Radar” Benitez.
The only man to hold a victory over all of the others… Leonard.
Leonard’s greatness did not just shine through beating his fellow greats that he did, but the electrifying fashion in which he did so.
His first title shot against Benitez in November 1979 marked Leonard’s arrival as more than just a media creation and marketable Olympic champion. Benitez was special, the man known as the “Bible of Boxing,” the youngest ever world champion at 17 after defeating long-reigning champion Antonio Cervantes. At the time of this fight, Benitez was 21, undefeated, and at the peak of his powers. He was 38–0 with 1 draw and a two-weight division champion. Benitez was one of the most naturally gifted boxers ever, one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time, and a magnificent counter-puncher. Leonard out-boxed and out-fought Benitez and got the stoppage in the 15th and final round, six seconds from the final bell.
Ray’s first professional defeat came against Duran at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal in June 1980, in the same arena where Leonard had won Olympic gold.
Leonard lost to a legend who had the best night of his life with one of the greatest triumphs in boxing history. Duran was a killer with a record of 71–1, and Leonard fought Duran’s fight, going toe-to-toe on the inside against one of the greatest in-fighters of all time, and lost a razor-close decision. Even in defeat, the ‘Golden Boy’ showed that he was more than just a slick boxer with marketable looks. He was a real fighter who possessed immense toughness.
The infamous ‘No Mas’ fight came just five short months later. When Leonard usually fought, he wore red, white, and blue trunks and had tassels on his shoes, but for the rematch, Leonard wore black trunks, black socks, and no tassels. In his Autobiography, “The Big Fight,” Leonard stated, “I would have put on black gloves if they had let me. It was not the time for any more showbiz. There was a title to win back.” Prior to leaving his dressing room, Leonard asked his adviser Mike Trainer: “How do I look?” Trainer responded: “You look like a mix of the Grim Reaper and an assassin,” to which Leonard responded to in his Autobiography, “Exactly.”
Since becoming champion, Duran had partied vigorously for months, and it was clear who the more focused and in-shape fighter was on fight night. Leonard masterfully out-boxed Duran, then started clowning and humiliating Duran, much to the Panamanian’s irritation. In the eighth round, Duran’s pride could take no more, and he turned his back on Leonard and waved the fight off to the referee. The man famed for his machismo and incredible will to win turned human and wanted no more, and Leonard was crowned champion once again.
When Ray faced Hearns in September 1981, the tall, lean, and explosively powerful “Hitman” was 22 and undefeated, boasting a record of 32 wins with 30 knockouts. Against a monster in Hearns while fighting for the undisputed welterweight championship, Leonard out-fought Hearns and came from behind on the scorecards to mount a furious assault in the 14th round and stop the fearsome knockout artist. This fight was a perfect demonstration of a peak Leonard, young and hungry, showing heart and a doggedness that completely defied his pleasant nature away from the ring to turn the tide of a grueling, losing fight to stop Hearns. Ray showed a quality that is rare on such grand occasions and points to greatness. This was a real historic, legacy-defining fight. Sugar Ray’s sweetest victory and Hearns’ first loss.
Leonard got these career-defining victories before the age of 26, and in the space of a 22-month period. The epitome of greatness.
Leonard was subsequently forced into retirement in 1982 due to a partially detached retina, so his physical prime was cut short. He made a brief return in 1984 against Kevin Howard, suffering the first knockdown of his professional career before prevailing with a vicious barrage of head blows later in the fight. Ray subsequently ‘officially retired’… until 1987.
In April 1987, Leonard faced one of the greatest middleweights of all time in Hagler and, against all odds, prevailed as the victor via a split decision. However debatable the result, Leonard fought the undisputed middleweight champion of over six years, with 12 title defenses, in his first fight in three years, having never competed at middleweight before. With no tune-ups, Ray was fighting the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet. The fight was awarded “Upset of the Year” by The Ring. For Leonard to be so competitive against one of the most dangerous and dominant middleweight champions of all time after such prolonged inactivity was a sensational achievement.
Subsequently, past his prime competing against WBC light-heavyweight champion Donny Lalonde, Leonard showed heart, chin, power, and ferocious killer instinct when stopping a substantially naturally bigger man.
Leonard was arguably the most complete fighter since the days of Ray Robinson, and there has arguably not been as complete a prizefighter since Leonard.
Leonard filled the void left by Muhammad Ali’s retirement as boxing’s main attraction, and not only followed Ali in keeping boxing in the public’s interest, but followed Ali in being a real once-in-a-generation fighter, somebody who must be mentioned when discussing the finest fighters ever to lace a pair of gloves.

social media - howl pendragon
does your muse use any social media? what sites do they use? how much of an online presence do they have?
he uses instagram, and probably was considering starting a tiktok but then morgan showed up and that got put on pause. it’s still a possibility though in the future. they tried twitter but they didn’t like nor being able to ramble on forever
what kind of accounts does your muse follow online? and what do they post on their own accounts?
people they’re close with, official government accounts for law dodging and tax evasion purposes, probably some cool art and music accounts
is your muse comfortable with a phone or computer? do they use them often? how literate are they with technology?
pretty good. howl canonically designs video games the guy is very good with tech, it wasn’t a huge jump to adjust to a more modern version of what they’d already been using
what kind of profile picture(s) does your muse use on various apps? how often do they change their profile pic/icon?
he changes it all the time, sometimes it’s just him, sometimes it’s them with morgan or sophie or markl, sometimes it’s a faceless shot, howl is fickle as hell and his profile pic changes basically every time he logs on to instagram
are they someone who takes a ton of photos when they’re with friends or family? do they end up in a lot of photos?
totally. howl is a simp and loves his kids and wife so they are taking pictures all the time they’ve gotta post the fam
if given the opportunity, would your muse prefer to make money through an online channel rather than a traditional job?
i mean, i wouldn’t call howl’s current job traditional, but he could absolutely make money through social media if the magic thing ever fell through, and would enjoy doing it quite a bit, i think
do they have any hobbies that take up a lot of their time? what are they? are there any special interests your muse has that they like to share with people? are there any that they keep secret?
magic is a hobby as well as his job, so that takes up a ton of time, but they do also play the guitar and love music in general, so a decent amount of time is spent working on that sort of thing. he’s not really quiet about any hobbies they have, he just wants to enjoy himself
your muse has a whole day to themselves but not enough time to plan a trip or event. what do they do for that free day?
working on some new spell at sophie’s shop, so he can spend the day with them and morgan and menace their wife while he works
does your muse listen to anything in particular in their private time? if so, are they more of a music person or a podcast person? what genres do they prefer?
music. always music. man loves all music, but is absolutely partial to 70′s pop, think marvin gaye or abba. they fuckin love abba, man. but he’s definitely also got old jazz songs, modern pop, rock and roll, metal, kpop, literally anything you can think of
would your muse prefer to go out to spend time with loved ones, or would they rather stay in?
honestly, either one. howl is extroverted as hell, and always willing to try something new, but if whoever he’s hanging out with is not in the mood to go out, they’re perfectly content to stay inside and watch a movie or something
does your muse use any dating apps, or do they prefer to meet people the old fashioned way? if they absolutely had to write a tinder bio what would it say?
they don’t use them, but if he was single he absolutely would be on tinder. their bio would be like some kind of stupid ‘let’s talk, one ten to another’ bullshit he’s a menace
