Masanori Ota (太田正典, Ōta Masanori, born November 23, 1961), better known by his pen name Masamune Shirow (士郎 正宗, Shirō Masamune), is a Japanese manga artist. Shirow is best known for the manga Ghost in the Shell, which has since been turned into three theatrical anime films, two anime television series, an anime television film, an anime ONA series, a theatrical live action film, and several video games.
i think the way shirow renders his artwork is very good, he is very skilled at creating realistic looking metal and its clear he's very knowledgeable with the colours he uses. however i can not say i like his art because of his over sexualisation of his female characters. they are in a cyberpunk world, somewhere that's dangerous and deadly with highly advanced tech and he's drawing these women with super revelling suits for driving these mechs.
almost every drawing of his is an over sexualised woman in a provocative pose, and that not just me being over sensitive, this is a big problem in media, over using sex appeal to sell more artwork. the clothes my characters were are not sexual at all, eithos wares a crop top and leggings but i don't draw her with a tiny waist with a big thighs and chest, she is muscular and wares what she does because its sporty and easy to move in and that's necessary with what she does. i do not see a genuine reason that a police officer would need the top of her boobs showing and i doubt she would be very strong because her waist is so tiny. she doesn't look like a police officer at all her body type doesn't reflect her job and makes her seem like an object.

Kill la Kill and Japanese classical pop music references: a masterpost
Tumblr media
(gif created by @sailormoon-cola) I don’t know if someone else here on Tumblr has already done it, but this morning I’ve finally started to search and listen to the Japanese classical pop songs referenced by every episode (for those who didn’t know it, an idea of the show’s head writer Kazuki Nakashima). Click on the highlighted English translation to listen to the song! I’ve already fallen in love with many of them.
PS: if you know the titles of the other Drama CDs or, more generally, other trivia on this matter, please, DM me and let me know! I’d love to make this post go more in-depth (:

Movies - Ghost in the shell (2017)
I’m calling it right now: Ghost in the shell will win next oscar for best visual effects. It’s the most beautiful and gorgeous piece of cinema I have ever seen. You literally could freeze the movie at any point and make a poster or a painting from it. The world this movie presents to us is breathtaking and it feels real and lived in.
Ghost in the shell is cyberpunk gold.
Help to get postponed / cancelled original soundtrack to be released by signing the petition for it from --> Here!
It’s not only visually amazing but it gives real sense of the world, how things work within it, what it is to live in a world like that and how humanity itself changed in the course of time. Nothing feels out of place.
Story (No spoilers)
Story of the movie lands into a genre of police thrillers and does good job in telling it. The main character, Major, is the first of her kind as a shell of a human made with technology that has the only piece that really determines what the person is: human brains. Her character blurs the lines of synthetic and a real person. Major is part of Section 9 that works for the goverment as counter terrorist and anti-crime unit and the story follows their work and Major’s personal journey. It gives you a bit of thought provoking questions about consent, human rights and the sense of belonging just as giving sense of loneliness for the main character who is trying to come to terms with her own unique existense. The movie is a police thriller / action movie and the story follows the ideas from that perspective and it doesn’t dive into them with philosophical extend but instead uses them to spice things up.
The story is setup as an origin story for the character and leaves a possibility for a sequel. The movie stands on it’s own but it also builds the foundation for future movies if this is going to be turned into a series.
Music
The score of the movie is composed by Clint Mansell and Lorne Balfe. Music of the movie fit the cyberpunk world and enhanced the atmosphere. It doesn’t use the soundtrack of the original Ghost in the shell except one or two times. This is by no means a bad thing as the new musical score is really great on it’s own.
Help to get postponed / cancelled original soundtrack to be released by signing the petition for it from --> Here!
Scarlett Johansson as the Major and “the problem of whitewashing”
Major is played by Scarlett Johansson. Casting Scarlett as the Major brought up a lot of controversial issues about “whitewashing” in Hollywood. Whitewashing means that the movies present characters or stories from different culture and replaces the ethnic group it concerns by casting white actors over black, asian, muslim etc. actors. It’s something that is a real problem in movie industry but in the case of Ghost in the shell that accusation is missplaced. I repeat: Ghost in the shell (2017) can’t be blamed for it.
The whole movie is about a person that is synthetic, a shell, leaving her ethnicity out of the equation by questioning what it is to be a human in the first place if you are just a brain in a machine. The reimagination of the original movie was also green lighted by Masanori Ota, the creator of the original work, and he gave the movie his blessing as well. (Direct quote from him “What issue could there possibly be with casting [Johansson]? […] There is no basis for saying that an Asian actress must portray her.” considering the casting choice) Secondly the ones who sees the casting of Scarlett as a problem are the western people who made a big fuss about it while the japanese people who were questioned what they thought about the casting they were almost unanimously pleased with the actor choice. Whitewashing is a real problem but it isn’t presented in this movie. The movie has fairly interracial casting compared to others to be honest.
Do not get into the hate train for reasons that simply are not there. Go see the movie yourself. I hate to see it how people in general just like the most criticts hate the movie and criticise it for things that they give a free pass on anything else just because of this trend.
Scarlett’s take on Major was marvelous and it shows she cared for the character she was playing. She still proves to be a great action hero while giving us a great performance outside the action scenes as well. She manages to capture the glassed eyes for a synthetic character while showing emotion and the lack of it that is fitting for the Major’s role.
What makes Ghost in the shell one of my favorite movies?
It’s world building
Cyberpunk is done perfectly
Major’s character and Scarlett Johansson
Mind blowing visuals and the beauty of the movie
Amazing action scenes
Soundtrack
The story
Trailer of the movie for your pleasure.

Scalo a Hong Kong, ritardo. Probabilmente ho ragione, abbiamo ragione.

Hortensia Saga is set in the kingdom of Hortensia, a nation that has known peace for some 700 hundred years as a result of being protected from invasion by the tributary states of Olivier and Camellia. However, on the fifth day of the 12th month in the year 767 of the King's Calendar, Camellia erupts into violent rebellion and monstrous demons appear, and the kingdom of Hortensia is plunged into a whirlpool of war. The story follows a group of young knights whose fates are caught up in the tragic conflict.
