Ross, Kingston. ---- Ottawa, May 11 - In discussing the militia estimates in the Commons, Brig.-General A. E. Ross, (Cons., Kingston) said it was rather interesting to see that estimates which were whittled down to the lowest figure could be still further reduced. He asked who the people- were who objected to militia training. There were those who had an aversion to what they called "brass hats." Then there were the uplifters. who said we should treat all men as brothers, forgetting that brothers. sometimes quarelled. Others took the ground that there were signs of lasting peace, and cited the disarmament conference in support of this contention.

General Ross emphasized the value of training. As a Canadian example of the value of training, he said that a week's winter training in Canada, with its experience of operations under low temperatures, had provided a method by which it had been possible to wipe out the malady known as trench feet.

"If we wipe out militia training and cadet training and all kinds of training," remarked. General Ross, in conclusion, "we shall produce a class of sissy boys, fanatics in dancing, and not the good old class of boys who made the British Empire what it is."

Remember back in the days when people used to say that Republicans were in favor of military discipline?

And, just in case it's not clear, we should be very precise on what is happening here: Republicans in Congress are encouraging MAGA and far-right servicemembers to disobey lawful orders from their commanders with the promise that Republicans will overrule those commanders.

Never once have Democrats ever completely cut the knees out from under the chain of command like this. There have been changes that Democrats have wanted to make to military policy and many that they have made, but never have they proposed that military discipline records be expunged, that personnel be reinstated in their former positions without review, and even that back-pay be issued.

Republicans are telling the most fervent of their supporters in the military that they can ignore their superiors, in fact the entire chain of command, without consequence. This is, arguably, one of the biggest threats to military discipline since the Civil War and we should call it out as such.

So they said joining the army wasn't that terrible, David joined thinking that he were able to maintain his personality and temper, but when he sat down into that chair everything he believed disappeared.

His eyes started to look like spirals and his expression lost dynamic. David stared there waiting to be fixed, conditioned, brainwashed and suited.

People in charge started to cut and comb his hair, they added a green shirt into his chest all buttoned up and then a green jacket too. As they were finishing the spirals in his eyes disappeared but his sight was different. There were nothing but a potential good soldier wearing the uniform from now on and behaving accordingly to his position.

"Thank you Sir for my induction... This is my new uniform... I am the uniform... I won't let you down..." -said David.

Yamato's daughter was absolutely shaken when her dad came back to the mainland for her. It's implied that Hajime had never taken three consecutive days off. There are a lot of amenities and things on the island to keep guards entertained. And sane.

They can't really function outside w how trigger happy and argumentative everyone is. Just as much as a lot of their prisoners have pretty much accepted that they don't have a life for themselves outside, the guards don't either.

A fun aspect of Pantherlily's and Gajeel's relationship that goes kinda unused is their respective histories.

Pantherlily's an ex-soldier. A previous man of the law who was willing to abide by secrecy to get justice and right Edolas' wrongs at the cost of himself. He's the only adult among the slayer exceeds and quite possibly might be older than Gajeel (gajeel's time travel shenanigans aside)

Gajeel's an ex not good person, a young man trying to find his feet after making some wrong choices and though Lily's not aware of the details he's aware of some inkling of Gajeel having a rough past.

So instead of just the standard slayer/exceed relationship it could skew more along the lines of a mentor relationship with Lily helping to guide Gajeel as someone who understands that circumstances can dictate how you act as well as being a stable adult (albeit cat) figure alongside being equals in battle to seamlessly work with each other.

Plus the humour that'd come with an ex-soldier and an ex-convict being partners with their respective age differences and how they go about handling things differently basically writes itself.
