Snowblind!Subscorp is ABSOLUTELY Death and the Maiden/Supernatural Romance coded. Alternately: Fellas, is it gay to offer up your life to the guy whose brother you murdered right after you pinned him to the ground and offered him positive affirmation while holding his own blade to his throat? To give back that weapon, trusting him to grant you an honourable death? And then, when he refuses and you've both sworn against forgiveness, to fight at his side? To protect and handle him gently, even when you believe that everything that was good in you was torn and burned out long ago?

SORRY I DIDNT SEE THIS UNTIL JUST NOW BUT YES!! AuGgHh Legends Subscorp was done so well.

Even from just a pure dynamic standpoint separate from romance (though it’s… so hard to do that with them honestly) there’s so much intense and deep emotional tension there that was carried through both movies in an arc of trust and reliance and devotion that’s fucking WILD and done fantastically well from a plot perspective.

I’ll always appreciate how Scorpions Revenge and Battle of the Realms handled Kuai n Hanzo alongside the main tournament story. It was so well paced and even though they weren’t the main characters of the second movie, really showed the level of conflict and regret at play in stuff like Bi-Han’s death and the clan rivalries. This was a real bitter conflict, one that had shed blood on so many sides and created a wall between them that seemed impossible to cross, but they did. We see Hanzo’s rage and nobility and brashness lead to his immediate feelings on the need to make amends, and we see Kuai’s care for his fellow Lin Kuei extend to Hanzo as his fellow warrior when they are both under threat and when he sees how he too has been manipulated. It is vitriol into respect, strong hate into the sharp edge of allyship and companionship.

It also kills me that the movies (even if diff timelines) have Kuai go from a single minded “I am the only one who can kill you, you will not die to anyone else but me” type of mindset in SR and BOTR, to “If it comes to it you are the only one I trust to kill me, I will die by no other hand than yours, not even mine” in Snow Blind. Like it tracks so well for the characterization he’d been given, as well as the history of the SubScorp dynamic throughout MKs history generally. It’s fucking heart wrenching and digs into the meat of how they circle around each other and clash.

I can’t even say they’re rivals to lovers because they are but it’s also so much more visceral than that. It is hate binding them together turning into respect and care and resilience when in step binding them together. It is for better or for worse you are mine, your destiny is mine, your death is mine, and it’s just… yeah. Legends articulated that dynamic amazingly and I’ll always b so thankful for that.

🦎 So far, it's nice seeing Syzoth actually getting the spotlight, the face reveal and a decent new timeline's bio without immediately being killed within 3 seconds (looking at you Mortal Kombat 2021 and Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge). Really hope he has quality screentime for himself in the game and doesn't get pushed to the background (there's Khameleon seen in the background of Tanya's reveal trailer so hopefully them Zaterrans have some more lore running between them this time.]

Mk legends defined has my favorite cageblade dynamic so far,

I love that they have the right amount of Sonya finding Johnny annoying while also finding him kinda funny, my favorite bits where everytime Johnny asked a dumb question and Sonya kinda followed his game by replying “nope” I also love when despite being annoyed she defended him against kano’s mercenaries

ALSO THE FINAL PART WHEN THEY SAVE JAX i got so hype when she said “holy shit Johnny cage can fight!” It was so cute, and also when Johnny asks Jax if Sonya will ever like him and then haz is like “well she hasn’t punch your but yet right?” And Johnny sadly went “yes she did jax” 😭

Anyways they where so cute I can’t wait to see them in battle of the realms

After watching MK Legends Scorpion's Revenge I think I ship Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Mostly cos I feel it would be like shipping two Starscream's together that are constantly trying to kill each other.

It was specifically after the scene where Quan Chi tried to poison Shang's drink and Shang can instantly tell and then turns on him. For some reason I interpret Shang's speech after that as "You know we could totally be a thing if you didn't keep being devoted to that god that no one likes".

You also have the opening cutscene of MK Deception they both team up to kill Raiden, succeed, and then do not even wait until his body is cold on the floor to start betraying each other. Amazing.

They're the Deadly Alliance. No one can match them when they combine forces. Together they can bring the realms to their knees. They will also turn on each other on a dime because neither of them can stop being treacherous for a second, and it's both their greatest strength and their greatest hindrance. They're perfect for each other.

Ok call me bat shit insane if you want but in the new MK Legends film we clearly see Kuai Liang with a scar.

But we see Sub-Zero without one:

I know it’s insane AF but what if this is a different timeline than the other movies and that’s Bi-Han coming to rescue Kenshi and Kuai Liang?? This Sub-Zero has no pupils just like Bi-Han in Scorpion’s Revenge.

Now I know the costumes are different in MKL: SR and MKL: Snow Blind but Sub-Zero’s build is different too, Kuai Liang is a freaking mountain in this movie but when they show Sub-Zero he’s leaner and not as bulky.

I know I’m probably wrong but how cool would it be to have both Sub-Zero bros in the same movie working together??? I know it’s probably just lazy animating or shitty NRS continuity issues but come on a scar doesn’t just disappear! Come on NRS give me one timeline where Bi-Han survives! Just one! Please!

Mortal Kombat Legends (my version) - The Outworld Saga

Scorpion's Revenge - Largely the same movie that we got, but with some differences like Sonya being set up as Liu Kang's love interest, and Johnny Cage being less of a clueless buffoon.

Liu Kang's Redemption - What the 2nd Legends movie should have been. A more focused adaptation of MK2 that focuses on Liu Kang as he and his allies compete in the Outworld tournament.

Battle of the Realms - A two-parter based on MK3. Part 1 focuses on Sub-Zero rebelling against the Cyber Lin Kuei, who are out to capture and kill him. Part 2 is the conclusion where Shao Kahn resurrects Sindel on Earthrealm.

And that is how I would do the first few MK Legends movies instead of having the 2nd movie speedrun through the entire lore faster than you can say "hold your horses".

God I saw that same post and like. 1.) Bi-Han killed Hanzo first 2.) In mkx Hanzo WAS going to apologize to Kuai but Kuai had clearly already forgiven him because he cuts him off to say that Bi-Han's death was Quan Chi's doing??? See now im wondering if im the odd one for having seen the mk9-x-11 game movies multiple times to not get my second timeline lore wrong.

Which btw, while its true for the first timeline (first mk game up to armageddon) that bi-han DID kill hanzo (it said as much in the first mk game's lore AND we saw it first-hand in mythologies: subz) while quan chi is only responsible for the death of his family and clan, bi-han did NOT kill hanzo in the second timeline (mk9 thru 11), that part went to quan chi disguised as sub zero who killed him, his family AND his clan, so when bi-han said "that was not me" in mk9 before dying, he really meant it. As much as I hate them with a burning passion, the events of the mkx comics are mostly canon, and hanzo died the very same night as his family did in the shirai ryu compound at the hands of "sub zero" and mkx reveal that the lin kuei had a contract with quan chi, that he carried out the execution but kept hanzo as his new wraith.

This is the scorpion backstory they ended up adapting for mk legends scorpion's revenge btw. So yeah in this one and in the second/nrs timeline, bi-han is 100% innocent. I dont want to see hanzo grovel at his or kuai's feet saying sorry over killing him on screen tho.
