Ummmm, how would you headcanon a redeemed principal cinch? She's always interested me and I always wanted to know more about her and see her redeemed too, but i get the vibe that that's an unpopular opinion... but I did see you mention you might redeem her so what would those headcanons be???

Thanks for asking this question! I actually been wanting to elaborate more on Cinch and how I can give her complexity/redemption/reformation! And since I don’t really plan to bring up anything about her in @ask-sonata-dusk at least not anytime soon at least, I guess it’s safe to put my thoughts here. I guess I can break this up into segments. Let’s see 🤔…

Cinch’s Background/How did she ended up this way?

She grew up in a family that expected perfection.

She had a toxic parent or parents.

Her parent or parents were often away and due to this, tried to succeed academically to get their attention.

Her family wasn’t a factor at all. She just grew up like this and things just took a bad turn, even if some sense of neglect was there.

What is required from a Cinch redemption?

To be aware that not all of her opinions are superior and to not be so closed-minded.

To accept that her children have the freedom to choose their own paths (if she has them, in which in MY headcanons, she does).

To accept defeat and not be a sore loser (but that doesn’t mean that she still can’t try to win).

To stop looking down on others, using them and manipulating them to get what she wants.

How does she “redeem”?

Family can help (if she does have close loved ones).

Be taken off of her high pedestal.

Go to therapy.

She’s not my favorite character, but my hate for her has died down a little bit, since EQG has been long over and she basically served her purpose in the series. Though I wouldn’t of mind more Cinch if that meant she’d gotten more focus or more stories with her. Heck, I even made headcanons for her.

used to be in the mlp fandom until like 2022 and i still have very few songs on my spotify from that like decade long "phase" of being in the fandom

tHAT BEING SAID- i jus t listened to "unleash the magic" from the equestria girls: thefriendship games movie and i- okay, so, imagine human twilight as jordana, the magic she has as the source dragon energy she drained, the background voices as the wolfmasks (and maybe cinder too), ras as abacus cinch (the principal from twilight's school) who's trying to convince her to use the source dragon energy for his evil plans & spike's "twilight, no!" shout at the end of the song from, idk, sora? or imagine it's not even there. and the magic that canterlot high used in the movie as spinjitzu/elemental powers/whatever the ninja have that the villains don't.

sometimes i like to think i'm stupid for connecting songs from shows or movies with a different franchise but idk i think it fits. to me, jordana seems hesitant to do what ras wants in the different s2 clips we've seen so far which fits to twilight hesitating to unleash the magic she's collected throughout the friendship games

Why are MLP villain songs always top tier?

My only real complaint is that there aren’t ENOUGH villain songs. Most of them are from the Equestria Girls movies.

Abacus Cinch's pony counterpart in my MLP AU is the Headmare (headmistress) of Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, but she is a better person than her human counterpart.

While Pony!Abacus does think that the School's reputation is important, and she wants to leave a legacy, it is never at the expense of the students.

Pony!Abacus wouldn't resort to blackmailing students or pushing them to be competitive to the point of prohibiting friendship with their rivals.

At least there's that!

Thoughts on an MLP/TMA crossover, because we know all the Fears are going Somewhere Else now, and that just makes for great crossover fuel. Slowly working on the fic here.

Sunset: Avatar of the Eye, probably takes on the position of Archivist. It wouldn’t even be that much of an expansion from her mind-reading powers.

SciTwi: Avatar of the Dark. Her researches into the collision of science and magic and the Fears leads her into a dimension beyond science and reason, a world where logic falls sloppy dead to your own worst inhibitions and projections. A bit like Manuela Dominguez.

Pinkie Pie: Avatar of the Spiral, because she’s just a living cartoon character anyway, and the implications of that have their own special kind of horror. Pushed into the Spiral by the rest of her family falling into the Buried.

Rainbow Dash: Avatar of the Vast. She’s got the aesthetic, the attitude, everything. Mainly manifests in competitions and challenges, the fear of being second best, of being nothing special and ultimately insignificant.

Rarity: Avatar of the Stranger. The Stranger has never missed a chance to perform, after all, and she does work with ever so many mannequins…

Applejack: Avatar of the Buried, her powers manifesting both in the literal sense of choking soil and dirt as well as the crushing weight of traditionalism and expectations.

Fluttershy: Avatar of the Hunt. This is a bit of an odd one. I kind of can’t help but picture her as a plant-based predator, a la the venus flytrap and pitcher plants. That said, she has a much clearer connection to animals. I feel like she’s definitely Hunt, though.

Trixie: Avatar of the Web, who made a deal with Mother of Puppets to get a Stranger off her back.

Cadance: Avatar of the Corruption. Mostly a harmless one, of course, overflowing with such sweetness. Who could ever think she would harm anyone under her auspices? They’re all a part of her hive, after all. All so very sweet…

The Shadowbolts: Haunted by the specter of Slaughter, honed for years by Abacus Cinch’s push for ruthless competition and excellence. The tensions never truly left, even after her fall from grace, and now they seem to be getting entirely out of hand.

Vignette Valencia: Avatar of the Stranger. This really isn’t far off from her canonical magic of replacing others. And ‘Being Yourself, But Better’ is practically an invitation for the Stranger to swing by.

Ditzy Doo: Avatar of ???. She’s definitely got something going on with her, but it’s usually not the central focus of the people around her. They only look at the packages she brings, the deliveries she makes. The way her Eyes Spiral is a tertiary concern at best – at least, unless she focuses on you. Fills in for Breekon and Hope.

Lyra Heartstrings: Avatar of the Extinction, brought about by her own research into the arrival of the Fears, her obsession with cryptozoology and conspiracy, and her mounting fear for the future of multiple worlds.

Wallflower Blush: Avatar of the Lonely. Again, this is basically where she was in canon, but with an added twist of nightmarish mist.

Juniper Montage: Avatar of the End. I’m gonna level with you, I didn’t have anyone lined up for the End, so I thought, ‘she’ll do’. She watched a cursed slasher film that kept showing her deaths that were destined to happen in the real world.

Autumn Blaze: Avatar of the Desolation, kickstarted when her family began to topple into the Lonely.

Big Macintosh: Avatar of the Flesh. A combination of working with meat animals and frequently being objectified for his looks led to Mac becoming something entirely other.

Cinch had three charges in her care once, Celestia entrusted her with the day-to-day care of Prince Blueblood, the new Princess Cadence and her student Sunset Shimmer - running a kingdom is difficult enough alone without three young ponies to look after - so when Celestia is absent (often) that means Cinch was in charge of these three ponies. And while the matron of the castle was always rigid about rules and wanted her three charges to uphold her reputation and to build their own budding reputations high, she cared about them very much. You'd have to, spending your time with the same three young ponies for so long, guiding and teaching them to be their best...

By the time Ditzy came into the picture, Cinch was down to two charges. She refused to fail them the way she failed...

Well, with one down, there were two left and she cared so much she wouldn't let anyone ruin them, especially not themselves. Surely they would come to realize Cinch was only helping.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

When I finally started semi-regularly watching the damn thing. I found it much more pleasing and well put together than the crazy brony fandom would lead you to believe. I can see why it reached a larger demographic than it’s target one, though. This is definitely a MLP I can get behind without any shame.

DISCORD! Even before I gave the show more of my time I loved this character, and I’m forever beyond thrilled that he got brought back and made a recurring character. His chaotic antics never get old, and John De Lancie always gives it his all in the role.

I don’t hate or even seriously dislike most of the characters but my least faves would be Prince Blueblood, Garble, Babs Seed, Trenderhoof, Spoiled Rich, and Abacus Cinch.

None that come to mind.

Fluttercord. Sorry but no, I do not ship it. They’re FRIENDS. The whole damn point is their FRIENDSHIP. Discord’s also several times older than Fluttershy and will never be reformed enough for a proper romance with anyone to work out. The master of chaos wouldn’t tie himself down like that.

That a bunch of people of different ages and genders have embraced the show, I guess? In the right hands and the right minds, being a brony can be a good thing.

The crazy bronies, no explanation needed. And the jaded, judgmental, self righteous older fans who seem to have completely missed the central themes and messages about friendship and harmony because they believe friendship should only be offered and received by those whose morality are aligned with their own and who make the general life choices that they agree with and approve of, but never to an outsider or evildoer, who must be shunned or outright destroyed.

I would’ve given the CMCs their Cutie Marks back in Season 4, revamped the series more significantly following that season, written that fifth season finale better, and brought the Dazzlings back in the EG movies already!

is blueblood an absent father? Since you’ve mentioned ditzy having magical difficulties due to not having a unicorn to teach her

I am trying to save asks for when I have images to go with them, but to make this clear in case it isn’t (and I’m too sick to draw anything at the moment):

Blueblood isn’t an absent father, he doesn’t know he has a daughter out there. Ditzy was too anxious to tell him she was pregnant after what Cinch said about her trying to trap him and ruin his life. So Dinky doesn’t have a unicorn in the house to teach her so after her initial infant magic surge died down, she basically didn’t use magic beyond little accidental impulse sparks.

Ditzy didn’t know she had to have Dinky practicing basic magic skills as a toddler until she started her in school and a teacher brought up that Dinky writes with her mouth not her horn - something that young unicorns don’t do unless they can’t use magic (because writing with magic is a good easy way for young unicorns to practice fine motor skills) and Ditzy is now trying to help Dinky practice magic with exercises her schoolteacher gave as a guide but is at a disadvantage with it. It’s also hard because to get her a special magic teacher costs money she doesn’t have.

Rarity, a local town seamstress of little importance is a family friend and donated spare baby stuff her younger sister grew out of, is a unicorn who could help but is simply too busy to do more than offer advice and Ditzy wouldn’t ask too much of her - and until she properly becomes friends with Sea Swirl and Minuette she doesn’t really know unicorns who can volunteer their time that much.
