[QR is trying his best to be a good dad]

Says thanks to qiurong now I got interested back in dad qr and his son guzi.

But just imagine modern world, qi rong is not known to be kind and good to people. He's pretty harsh and vulgar. He's also not really known for being /that/ good at taking care of children either. He doesn't enter the top 10 of potential babysitters with people he knows. But then one day, out of absolutely nowhere he has a kid?!

He happened to be bothered at work by his cousin and xl annoying husband when he suddenly received a call from school saying guzi is sick and should be taken home. Of course, he curse, mumbling about knowing something was off about guzi this morning and he should just have called in sick at work to make sure guzi was alright.

And xl is just stunned "you have a son!?!".

"No I have a horse. Of course, it's a son" qi rong snaps back.

He doesn't have time to deal with xl disbelief of the news, he has to figure out if someone can replace him for the end of his shift, but he knows it won't be easy because everyone here probably hates him (he can probably play on it being for guzi).

"How long until the end of your shift?" Xl ask before qi rong can go annoy his colleague to cover for him.

"Don't fucking know, about four hours, why" he asked.

"Well, maybe we can go get him for you" xl suggests with a smile, "is it alright sang lan?"

"Anything gege wants to do is alright" hc smiles, although anyone could tell he didn't really want to help qi rong (but since he was xl cousin, someone xl was trying to get close to again...).

Qi rong look at him, seemingly thinking it over.

He seriously doubts anyone would cover for him after having had at least an argument with everyone at least once (and guzi might have been used as an excuse in the past). Plus he couldn't really afford losing this job either by just walking out.

"Okay sure, I'll just call them to say you are picking him up, I'll lead you to my key and DONT enter the kitchen!"

And with that xl and hc are gone to go get guzi while qi rong finishes work.

Qi rong does try not to be distracted, but it is a bit hard when he knows guzi is sick and the one taking care of it is /xl/. As much as he cannot feel hc, he hopes the man makes sure xl doesn't try feeding his son anything he makes himself.

the four hours pass too slowly in his opinion and on his way back he grabs a couple of things to make some chicken soup for guzi (he even grab the shell pasta he seems to like so much). he gets back to his apartment to hc softly trying to stop xl to try and make something for guzi.

He throws on the counter the thing he just bought, getting the attention of the couple, yet he doesn't leave time to ask questions.

he goes directly to guzi's room, his features suddenly more soft and somewhat calmer too, despite his worry. He sits on the bed next to him, passing a hand through his hair and touching his forehead to see if he has a fever.

"You should have told me you were not feeling good" he says, watching as guzi leans into the cool touch of his hands.

"I didn't want you to get in trouble for missing work again" guzi whispered, looking up at qi rong when his dad laughed.

"They can go fuuu" he starts before seeing the look his son was giving him "Eat a cactus, if my son is sick I'll take care of him".

At worst I'll find another job, is what he doesn't add to not worry guzi more.

He smiles at him, happy to see his son being reassured by his words. "Are you hungry? I can make you some chicken soup"

"With the shells?" guzi ask

"With the shells" he replies, passing his hand in guzi hair again. "rest a little bit more while I make it".

with this he got up, missing how some intruders were quickly shuffling back to the living room in silence.

He went back into the kitchen, ignoring the look xl was giving him, clearly wanting to ask questions.

He only put his attention back on him when he suggested helping him out. "Out of my kitchen! don't cross onto the tiles, you'll just make him more sick with your poisonous food" he says, "If you want to help, make your husband do something instead" As much as he didn't like hc, he knew the man was at least decent in cooking, better than whatever his cousin would ever make.

He ignore the glare hc was giving him for talking like this to xl, missing the look xl gave him instead so he could help.

this is how he ended up cooking around hc, an awkward silence falling on them as xl clearly wanted to ask questions but didn't (he figured qi rong wouldn't answer while he was so focused on making his fresh chicken soup for guzi, he was surprised it wasn't a canned one).

qi rong tried ignoring how xl was going back from the kitchen to the room to check on a sleeping guzi, unsure what to do when everyone was already doing something.

"Here, cut some fucking apple slice if you really wanna help" ended up snapping qi rong. He couldn't possibly fuck up cutting an apple right?

It was clearly enough since xl finally settled down to do his task, even making little bunny with the apple pieces.

when everything was ready qi rong found guzi favourite bowl to put his soup in, a glass of water and taking xl apple plate before going back to guzi.

the young boy was awake again, happy to eat something his dad made.

Qi rong talked about his day at work, knowing it would help guzi relax to hear him talk (a contrast to guzi usually being the one to talk about his day when they eat). He managed to keep most of his swearing and cursing under control, otherwise gaining a look from guzi.

it was mostly complaining about clients, but his son seemed rather amused at his tales so he continued until he was done eating everything.

He gave something to help guzi's headache before letting him go back to sleep, reminding him to come get him if something was wrong. when he finally went back to the kitchen he was tired. He had already not slept well the night before and had passed the last couple of hours worried about guzi.

He was greeted with a bowl a soup xl had prepared for him so he could eat too.

"Why are you still here?" he asked, just wanting to be left alone now.

"Wanted to make sure you were oka-"

"No need to fucking lie, I know you worry about guzi" qi rong rolled his eyes. He wouldn't be the first to believe he was not a good fit to take care of him. But he didn't really care, guzi seemed to believe he could and he also believe he was doing a rather good job here. He may not be filthy rich like hc or as kind and gentle as xl, but he was doing his best already.

"Since when do you have a son?" xl asked instead, which did not surprise him either. No one really knew (but why would they need to know anyway? It wasn't like anyone really bothered to ask about how he was doing normally).

"Technically a year and a half" qi rong replied without giving more detail.

"Technically?" Repeated xl, unsure what this was supposed to mean.

"His dad was a shit neighbour and guzi ended up at my place a couple of times before I fully took him in.

Qi rong didn't explain more about how guzi's birth father was an absolute drunk who would get aggressive easily and barely took good care of his wife and son. More than once guzi ended up at his place when no one was home, his dad was too drunk and aggressive or because No one had actually fed him.

His parents ended up dying in a car crash (because the man was drunk). Qi rong was still unsure how he actually managed to get guzi's custody, he worked hard to have so. He might not be perfect, but he already knew him and guzi would Get upset the moment it was insinuated the gege from the next floor wouldn't be the one caring for him.

Qi rong was still fighting to show he /was able/ to take care of guzi properly.

Seeing how qi rong was clearly not going to give more detail xl sighed, fidgeting with hc hands. It was probably too early to get to know more about his cousin. He already took as a victory being trusted to go get guzi, knowing qi rong he could as well just tell him to fuck off.

Plus guzi seemed to recognise him, so qi rong had /somewhat/ mentioned him before. It was a good start to build something that had never been really there.

They ended up leaving when xl was fully sure that qi rong would be alright too. Qi rong was more than happy to finally be left alone, finishing his soup before going back to check on guzi. The boy was awake again and requesting he stay with him for now so he went to lay on the bed next to him (he was a bit too big for it but whatever).

"The nice gege is gone?" Guzi ended up asking.

"Oh, so I am not the nice gege anymore, great" qi rong snorted, "they went home after bothering me".

"But you are not a nice gege anymore," guzi said while turning back to him, "you are my dad".

Qi rong made a show of rolling his eyes, ruffling the boy's hair. Yet inside something was warm at the idea of guzi really seeing him like this, not just as a name used because it was expected in a way after being taken in as his adoptive son.

"Go to sleep now, you won't get better by not resting".

He ended up staying under guzi demand, falling asleep oddly on the bed, thinking of calling in sick if guzi isn't doing better.

He fell asleep with the same nice feeling.

Whatever other thought, as long as Guzi thought he was enough everything would be fine.

I want a Qiurong modern au that is loosely based off of Parent Trap.

Guzi finds old photos of the person his dad was married to and desperately wants to meet the person who could’ve been his other dad. Qi Rong spoke badly of him sometimes, but it was more bitter than malicious so he couldn’t be that bad of a person! And his dad looked so happy in those photos, Guzi needed to meet the person who would make him smile like that.

So he gets his dad to send him to a summer camp in Lang Qianqiu’s hometown, and proceeds to use this opportunity to find Lang Qianqiu and visit him daily to get to know him. Lang Qianqiu has no idea what’s going on but he likes this kid.

And thennnn Qi Rong comes to pick him up and Guzi has decided the world depends on his dads getting back together.

When the Sun Comes Up I'll Be There With You by lordydoo!!! It's a really fantastic look into Qi Rong and also one of those fics where an author appears out of the aether, drops a life-changing bombshell on you, and then just disappears forever again.

It's a non-magical modern AU where Qi Rong accidentally finds out that his family really, really doesn't like him very much, and the subsequent emotional spiral that he only manages to bring himself out of when he meets a little kid named Guzi on his fire escape.

The first section is entirely about Qi Rong and Guzi, and then eventually Lang Qianqiu comes into the picture. I think that it's kinder to Qi Rong than canon, but it's also a lot kinder to everyone than canon, seeing as it's a modern AU where things like cannibalism and demonic ghosts and stabbing people with swords are not "par the course." That said, I think that it does an amazing job drawing extremely apt parallels to how Qi Rong's situation and various, complex traumas would have played out in the setting that the author chose, and maybe how things could have gotten better for him if he had the opportunity to pursue a healthier environment.

Also, I think as a modern AU it carries a lot of weight in terms of creating a setting where Qi Rong's experiences can be considered as the traumas they are without being, ironically, overshadowed by things like "getting stabbed through the chest and locked in a coffin for 100 years."

i also feel like the animation this season is different, more crisps or something, because it looks even better than season 1 already gorgeous one. fengqing taking hold of me again was unexpected, but im dealing with the onslaught of emotions! i think it's just been too long since ive seen them in new scenes :"))

LQQ IS THE MVP OF THE DONGHUA AT THIS POINT! i looooove his design so much, more than the manhua one personally, and every scene he was in was soo good, i would have hard time choosing the one favorite as well. i think lqq debut this season was absolutely on point, and honestly i love watching him on my screen. he's so precious and when i tell you every scenes he's in makes me love him more and more im not kidding.

KEJEJJRJRJ FY AND LQQ INTERACTION WOULD HAVE BEEN SOO GOOD! especially considering mq is much more open as fu yao and being touched by lqq's sincerity and concern for mq would be right there on his face. (dw they make me cry as well🥹) i think i would also like to explore lqq's reaction to qi rong insulting mq, or maybe even their interactions during the aftermath of the tong'lu. mq being canonically good with children and helping lqq with guzi would be soo cute 🥰🥺 their potential for a strong and genuine companionship has me squealing as i write this, no lie

im so with you on your view of quirong!! it's definitely not a ship for me, even if i do tend to give every ship i come across a chance. although i think a fandom as well plays a role in my dislike, the overall impression of the ship didn't really give me the right vibe to like it either. im not above liking a pretty fanart for them when i come across it, but overall i just don't care about them. however it is always nice when you come across someone who also isn't a fan of the popular ship, makes you feel less crazy for not liking them 😭

mhmm if only more people thought like that, the discourses in the fandom would not exist :") it's so silly thinking everyone would have the same taste about fiction and media they watch and choose to interact with, and if that were to be the case the fandoms would be such a dull place to be. everyday i feel like the fandoms have went from a fun place to find like-minded people who enjoy things you do and with whom you can gush over your silly little blorbos, to this draining chore where you're constantly afraid someone will be on your throat for whatever reason if you dare say something about any character whether you like them or don't. it's honestly becoming exhausting but that's exactly why curating your own fandom experience and environment is important to have fun.

im personally ready to drop a fic if i see a trope i don't like or interpretation i don't agree with, even if i was already invested into the story prior. im willing to look past the characterization issue when the fics are clearly meant to be crack, but otherwise it really is very important to me that characters be the closest to canon as possible, especially in canon universe. modern aus are tricky, but honestly with enough lore throw in to explain it, i can swallow slight mischaracterization. anything fanon related tho, yeah im dipping so fast 😭 gods i sure sound pretentious and nitpicky about this but it's true, i learned the hard way that the only way to enjoy a fandoms is to set standards for what you like and not and not really care about others opinions, it's so much more enjoyable and you will eventually find the like-minded people who will support your delusions

side characters are gold mine when it comes to fics and general fandom experience, and from what ive noticed, the less popular the better 😭😭 sure you will probably have to make your own fan work but it's soo worth it at the end of the day! also less discourses so it's definitely a win. i also feel like the side characters/pairings usually have more interesting concepts when it comes to fics/art 🤔 this is not the case in every fandom but from my experiences, fics and art about side characters somehow feel more satisfying? idk to me it always comes across how people make a thing without it being cut out and served for them by already established canon, so to me it always feels more enjoyable to interact with such works

SQX IS SO GORGEOUS IN YOU ARTSTYLE AND IM DEFINITELY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THEM AGAIN AT SOME POINT IF YOU DECIDE TO DRAW THEM AGAIN! im also not so subtly stalking you account for any lqq rarepait you decide to grace us with 👀👀

I’m so sad we have to wait a little longer for the next episode to come out,,,,, I need to see fengqing more 😭 Also!!! Lqq really is the heart and soul of the season so far!!! I guess that makes sense considering we’re right in the middle of his arc but he really is such a joy to see in every scene— they really made him so baby and if last episode is anything to go by they’re about to make him so anguished (affectionate). I love this boy so much.

Also every time we bring up more and more different qianqing scenarios, I can’t help feeling that they’re actually so surprisingly complimentary to each other. Now I’m actually just disappointed that mxtx never really explored their dynamic. Lqq would’ve been a perfect ally in mq’s hardships and mq would’ve been a such an asset to have in the search for qr and the management of Guzi’s care (not sure if mq would be nurturing but he’d definitely come through with a lot of “Why aren’t you [insert form of care here] ?”). They could’ve benefited from being closer.

I think there’s something novel about side characters and rarepairs that makes them (personally) so appealing. We don’t see so much about them so we want to know more and from that want comes so much unique and interesting exploration. I just read an entire story about a pair of main guys— I wanna know more about the people who were a part of their story. It’s about the fun of redirecting the spotlight 🥹

(Also I think in a way everyone is a little pretentious with their personal preferences for what they enjoy and how they enjoy it. If the writing or the art isn’t doing anything for you or it loses you along the way then that’s just part of the subjective experience of the arts! It’s okay to admit to being picky or selective.)

Anyway—! As a lqq art peddler I am happy to keep peddling more lqq art in the future. Might even start drawing more donghua lqq (manhua lqq is very special to me but donghua lqq has charmed me so much 😭). I really gotta get back into the frenzied rate at which I used to draw him— now with a couple extra boyfriends LMAO.

Modern Setting AU where Qi Rong straight up removes Guzi from his father who is Qi Rong's neighbor. Though the thin walls of his apartment he can totally hear what is happening to this kid and he will not have a child suffer like he had. Of course he does the 'not legal' way by basically kidnapping Guzi into moving next door and this works out until the dad actually notices and of course death threats (I will eat you alive before you get near him again) and this arrangment works out pretty good until the dad kills himself in the most drunk accident and suddenly Qi Rong is wishing he did the legal thing once. Since police are like where is the child?? Tempory Guardianship is only tempory too. Very stuck in between making Lan QianQiu a laywer to help or make this a fake relationship so they can adopt Guzi.

Day 6: modern au

After doing the sketch for this I came up with an entire story for this actually and I plan to eventually write it.

Roughly tho: Qi Rong is a single dad who adopted Guzi because his parents couldn’t take care of him and no one else would take him in, but Qi Rong did. He has been disowned by his rich fam because he was part of organized crime as a teen/young adult. He is doing better now though, and working three jobs to make sure Guzi has a good life, despite them being fairly poor. Lang Qianqiu is a university student from a wealthy family, and every day they ride the same train, and get on and off at the same stations, and every time Lqq sees them… he has major déjà vu. Coming to an ao3 near you… someday

Day 13: B̷r̷e̷e̷d̷i̷ng | O̷l̷f̷a̷c̷t̷o̷p̷h̷i̷l̷ia | [Public]

Qi Rong decided to be a menace that day and tease Lang Qianqiu all day long. Then on the train back home he decides to retaliate and realise it was probably not a good idea. It’s Qi Rong after all.

Were it not for the fact that part of the shopping they were doing was for Guzi, Lang Qianqiu would probably not have accepted to help Qi Rong. Their relationship was still a weird place between hating each other, “friends” and… some sexual tension (as much as he wanted to deny it).

One thing was sure, Qi Rong got on his nerve often enough, he didn’t need to see him more than he already does, being his neighbour and all.

But school was around the corner and of course, Guzi needed some new things. Qi Rong also needed other things, hence why he somehow managed to drag him along, needed more hands.

“Guzi’s at a friend's house, he can’t help me today” Qi Rong had said, although Lang Qianqiu couldn’t see how the boy was that helpful. Sure he could carry some things, but it was likely not the same as him coming along.

But of course, it couldn’t just stay a normal shopping trip, Qi Rong had to fuck everything up.

Qi Rong decided to tease him all day long, being his usual crude self, but also adding a lot of flirting into his words. He would push where he knew it would bother the other man, nearly getting what he probably wanted more than once.

Lang Qianqiu had decided he could deal with this, it wasn’t worth causing a scene and making Qi Rong feel victorious about but. But of course, that wasn’t all he had in mind.

At some point Qi Rong started touching him too, teasing him when no one could see them. He sure seemed to take a lot of pleasure and amusement in groping him out of nowhere, gaining little sound of surprise.

When they stopped to go eat somewhere Qi Rong sat in front of him, his foot always rubbing up against his legs. He had been about to tell him to knock it off when he instead felt said foot directly rub against his crotch.

He had to grab the offending foot by the ankle to stop it from moving, Qi Rong sent him what he could only assume to be an innocent smile. “Something wrong?” he asked, despite clearly knowing what was up.

He had to excuse himself to the bathroom, glaring dagger at Qi Rong who looked really satisfied with himself.

They were in of pf the corner, Lang Qianqiu behind Qi Rong to block him from the somewhat filled wagon.

And when Qi Rong seemed distracted enough, he decided to act. He pressed up close to his back, hips grinding against his ass, a hand coming around his waist to grope his cock, rubbing it.

From the look of it, Qi Rong did look pretty surprised by it, but not ready to let him win this game.

He was quick enough to slap his other hand over his mouth, forcing him to quiet down the moan he was about to make.

This is when Qi Rong started to laugh loudly. “Fuck, I didn’t expect fucking goody two shoes over there to have this much gut” he grinned. “Maybe I judge you too quickly, maybe you’re a bit more of a freak than I first thought you were” he added.

He didn’t really allow Lang Qianqiu to argue and defend himself, grabbing some bags again, making his way back to their building, still laughing to himself.
