I know it may seem like a pretty problematic choice, but I would really like to see Andrew Koji as Kuai Liang in the next Mortal Kombat movie and I have a few reasons why I would like him to be cast:
1- Andrew looks a little bit like Kuai Liang from MK11:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In his role as Storm Shadow, even without a beard and with the scar on his eye, he looks like Kuai Liang, he even gives an air of a young Kuai Liang.
Tumblr media
2-He has excellent chemistry with Joe Taslim:
Tumblr media
In the Warrior series you can see the incredible chemistry that both have and they are very good friends in real life. I feel like the relationship they have would help make the fact that Bi-Han and Kuai Liang are brothers believable, it would even feel more natural. Can you imagine a flashback of both brothers in the Lin Kuei played by these two?
3- He also has incredible chemistry with Hiroyuki Sanada:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the movie Bullet Train they both play the role of father and son, and despite the little time on screen that we saw them interact together, their chemistry was simply incredible and perfect. With Mr. Sanada being confirmed as Scorpion for the sequel, and knowing all the development that this pair will have until they become allies, wouldn't it be incredible to see them both together again this time playing out the biggest and best-known rivalry in the entire game?
Tumblr media
4-Andrew deserves more recognition:
Seeing what an incredible martial artist and actor he is thanks to his role in Warrior I feel like he hasn't made a name for himself in the industry yet despite also acting in Bullet Train and Snake Eyes and it's sad because he really He deserves people to recognize the incredible talent he has and I feel like a role like Sub Zero in a commercial movie like Mortal Kombat would really help boost his career.
I know that this casting choice is even controversial because Andrew is not Chinese but Japanese and the film has greatly respected the ethnicities of the characters in the saga and I am very happy about this, so I want it to be clear that this is just a fancast and It is something that I would like to happen and they will not listen to me for that reason. Any actor cast in the future for the role will make me happy and satisfied because Kuai Liang is another of my favorite characters in the game despite the fact that many believe otherwise, and whoever plays him in the future will have my support since at the end of the day he will give life to a character that is dear to me.

CHAPTER ONE : The First Failure
-> Ao3 link is here.
-> Prologue is here.
-> Chapter Two link is here.
Pairing : Sub Zero | Bi-Han x Reader
Summary : As you navigate the challenges of this forced union, the uncertainties about the future cast a daunting shadow over your every step. Amidst the grand promises that bind your clans, there lingers a fear—the apprehension of an impending first night that both duty and tradition demand.
The journey ahead unfolds as a delicate dance between obligations, fears, and the pursuit of control in a destiny that feels beyond your grasp.
.
.
.
Two months ago…
‘’The plan is quite simple; gain the trust of the grandmaster. Once you win his, the entire clan will trust you anyway.”
‘’Easy to say but difficult to implement. We've been fighting them for too long, brother. That's why it won't be easy for him to trust me. It may take me months or even years to be able to do what you say! If we could come up with another plan-"
"You will do whatever I say."
Your brother rudely interrupted you, casting a disdainful gaze down at you, his stature towering over yours. Despite not averting your eyes, a subtle shudder ran through your body.
Given your brother's easily provoked and irritable nature, angering him was not only a simple feat but also a dangerous one. To maintain your composure, you tightly pressed your lips together and offered a slight bow of your head as a form of apology.
"It seems that our forces are insufficient to defeat them."
While your brother was speaking, he began to slowly circle around you, just like a hunter observing his prey.
“We need a different plan. We must catch them by surprise so that victory will ultimately be ours. Isn't that right, sister?''
One of your brother's hands grasped the end of your hair, which was falling down to your waist, and pulled it slightly, showing that he wanted to get an answer from you.
"Yes brother, you are right."
“A lot of blood has been shed because of this war between the clans. You don't want to let the blood of our dying brothers remain on the ground, do you?"
‘’No.’’
"Good, I'm glad we agree on that."
Your brother caressed your hair with fake affection. When his movement caused you to shiver more noticeably than before, you got angry at yourself for the weakness you showed and stifled your shiver by nibbling hard on the inside of your cheek. Your brother gave a sinister smile, showing that he was aware of the power he had over you and enjoyed it.
‘’You will gain that man's trust, (y/n). Any information you get there is worth gold to us. You can put an end to this war and take your place among us.''
Your brother released your hair, easily reappeared in front of you in two big strides, grabbing your chin and lifting you up to look at him.
"I know how much you desire this. Don't you want to finally be accepted? Moreover, if you complete this task, you will be remembered as a savior.”
You swallowed. Of course you wanted this very much, you had spent years working non-stop, going from one mission to another in order to be accepted. You were cruel to yourself, but your desire to be appreciated was so great that you often ignored your body's flags of rebellion for you to stop. And now, the opportunity you were looking for was presented to you.
Thanks to your talent, you would frequently execute your missions without detection, accomplishing them with flawless stealth and agility. You never found the need to talk your way out of trouble since you had never been caught.
Consequently, people began crafting nicknames for you, acknowledging your existence despite never seeing you. Ghost, Shadow, Nightmare, Specter, Wraith... Among them, your preferred alias was the Silence of the Night. It carried an air of elegance blended with danger, sounding almost poetic.
The more perfect you were at your duties, the less successful you were at impressing people. As someone with the blood of a noble family, you always made sure that your movements looked fluid like water, graceful and measured. However, most of the time, you would think that you couldn't do it right because you tried too hard for it and it looked like the exact opposite.
Despite your abilities being unknown to anyone in the clan, you remained invisible to them. As a result, you didn't have many people around you to talk to in your life. Over time, this led you to give up on trying to establish a dialogue with them, prompting you to retreat into your own shell.
“Put your worries aside,” your brother said, the corners of his lips turning down in distaste as if he heard your thoughts. "You carry our blood, it is not even possible for you to fail."
You swallowed once more. You wanted to succeed in this mission and prove yourself more than anything and anyone. However, this duty also conflicted with your own values. Yes, the Lin Kuei Clan was your enemy and you needed to deceive them for the future of your own clan.
Only then could you bring an end to this war and lead your clan to victory. For this, you simply had to gather enough information and create the right moment by taking advantage of the element of surprise.
But was this really what needed to be done?
Would you be able to do this?
‘'Men are generally simple creatures. Their thoughts often revolve around fighting and sex; complicating matters too much will only confuse them. The grandmaster of the Lin Kuei is no exception. Don't let his cold demeanor intimidate you. Utilize your femininity to captivate him, distract him, fill his mind with you. Refrain from expressing your opinions on any subject; instead, be silent and observant."
Your eyes filled with tears of despair as your eyebrows furrowed slightly. But you didn't spill them, you wouldn't give your brother this satisfaction, nor would you humiliate yourself in front of him.
“When you become his wife in a few months, your body will now belong to the grandmaster. Do whatever he wants. The more you satisfy him, the easier it will be for you to approach him and learn the order inside."
You knew you wouldn't deny what was said; you were merely a pawn in this war, with no right to voice objections. It was unheard of. Nonetheless, despite the looming marriage in two months, your brother's words induced a knot of tension in your stomach.
"Did you understand what I said, sister?"
You were able to say, "Yes." in a dry voice.
A sinister smile, reminiscent of a snake, appeared on your brother's face. He cupped your face with both hands and placed a small kiss on the top of your head, as if sealing the spoken words.
''Nice, very nice. Since we agreed, you can withdraw (y/n).”
Today
You stood in the middle of the room, unsure of what to do.
About half an hour ago, you were married to the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. The wedding was held in a simple ceremony attended by clan elders, family members, and high-ranking special warriors.
Even though the wedding dress fit like a glove, you felt like you were suffocating throughout the ceremony. It was as if your lungs did not fit into your chest; no matter how deep you breathed, it was never enough, preventing you from suppressing the growing tension inside you.
That's why you focused your gaze on one place, looking only in front of you, and tried not to lose control. You were a warrior; you shouldn't have been intimidated by a marriage. Moreover, it wasn't even a real marriage; it was just a significant step towards leading your clan to victory.
Still, despite all this, the weight of the task, its reality, and the obligation to meet expectations began to weigh on your shoulders with each passing minute, making itself felt more clearly.
During the ceremony, neither you looked at the grandmaster nor he looked at you. Both of your eyes were focused forward, both of your stances were upright, and there was a distinct gap between you, almost large enough for a person to fit in. It was obvious from every aspect that you were married out of necessity.
“I hope this union will end the ongoing hostility between the two clans. Now we are all a family under this roof; your happiness is our happiness, your sadness is our sadness, and your war is our war too.”
With the echoing voice of the clan elder, the trembling in your body increased even more. When the rings were brought to you in a fancy box to be worn, you turned your body towards the grandmaster, and this time you fixed your gaze on his chest, avoiding meeting his eyes directly.
Even in this situation, you felt small and cornered against the grandmaster's large body. You knew you could easily blend into the shadows and escape from there if you wanted; it would be effortless for someone of your skill. Unfortunately, running away was not an option for you as you had to hide your powers from them.
Your head could only reach the man's chest, and the cool air emanating from him had raised the tiny hair on your body. The danger signals emanating from every part of the grandmaster were clear as day; you could feel his dark aura and dominant nature to your core.
You raised your hand when the grandmaster, who was about to become your husband, reached out to put the ring on your finger. Your hand was shaking noticeably, just as you had feared. You hoped that he would think you were shivering because of the cold.
While shame turned your cheeks pink, you felt the grandmaster's gaze on you for the first time and, unable to help yourself, you stole a glance from behind your eyelashes.
When you directly met the grandmaster's eyes, at that moment your heart was filled with a strange feeling that you had never felt before, as if your heart had fallen into the void.
They were definitely the most beautiful eyes you've ever seen in your life. Dark brown eyes, with the gaze of a predator, were slightly slanted and framed by dark lashes. It reminded you of the snow leopard you encountered while wandering through the forest once, beautiful but also wild. He had a distinct danger that meant he could easily tear you to pieces if you got close to him.
The grandmaster's touch sent a shiver through you as he placed the ring on your finger, his dark eyes never leaving yours. It was as if you were jolted awake from a dream, and you quickly shifted your focus to your hand.
The silver wedding ring on your finger was plain, with a smooth surface that felt cool against your skin, and adorned with only a small, dark blue gemstone. After looking at the ring for a few more seconds, you moved to put it on the grandmaster's ring in the same way, and again the man's intense gaze never left you.
You didn't remember the rest of the ceremony, you were too nervous and stressed. You had no idea how you got to this room, all you remembered was the similar corridors and the cold seeping through the stone walls.
You told the two women who came to help you to take off your wedding dress that you wanted to be alone and asked them to leave the room, and you somehow managed to take off your wedding dress with numb fingers.
With your legs feeling like jelly, you open the suitcase left in the corner of the room, where your belongings are kept. Carefully, you take out the nightgown your brother had chosen for you, unfolding it with a sense of reluctance and uncertainty.
Examining the satin, black nightgown with its long, floor-sweeping skirt and deep slit, a wave of nausea washes over you. The front of the nightgown is once again crafted in a deep V-shape, mirroring the design of the slit, making you acutely aware that it could easily expose your breasts without any effort on your part.
As you slip into the nightgown, your growing nausea intensifies, and an unsettling sensation grips you – akin to being a gift meticulously prepared for presentation. The overwhelming feeling brings tears to your eyes, and your lower lip begins to tremble slightly.
Anticipating the upcoming moment, you frequently refrain from pondering how your first time will unfold. Coming from a noble family, voicing your opinions on marriage is a luxury you don't possess. It's a duty, an obligation shared by everyone in your family, a fate dictated by the needs of the clan's future.
Reflecting on your parents' union, you recognize that, for those of noble blood, marriage is more duty than choice. The realization has always been too daunting to confront. The notion of a stranger, someone you've never met, easily penetrating your privacy has consistently sparked fear, causing your heart to race and beads of cold sweat to form.
And now, you've reached a point where you can't run anymore.
With fingers numbed by tension, you delicately adorn yourself with jewelry left by your mother, seeking to conceal the scar that stretches along your throat. Each piece, though carrying a sense of protection, is recognized as nothing more than a fragile illusion.
When the last necklace settled down to stand in the middle of your chest, the question that you didn't want to think about but couldn't stop from appearing echoed in your mind.
Was he going to hurt you?
You were not oblivious to the whispers that circulated regarding the first night, and unfortunately, the majority of the gossip you caught wind of painted a rather grim picture.
Given your origin from the enemy clan, he has every justification to revel in your suffering. Under different circumstances, you would never hesitate to fight and defend yourself.
Your body, shaped by years of training, is acquainted with pain, and you've acquired the skill to endure it. Yet, despite your ability to suppress pain in your mind to a certain extent, it proves insufficient to pacify the fear welling up within you—a type of fear both raw and primal, an emotion you’re unfamiliar with.
Besides, you had no idea how to satisfy him. Your life was spent in rigorous training, tasks, and strict discipline. Moreover, being an outcast in your clan, you had never formed emotional connections with anyone, making you clueless about how to satisfy him.
Finally, you dabbed on a perfume with an intense scent that irritated your nose, applying it to your wrists and a bit on your neck. The overpowering smell of vanilla engulfed your senses, intensifying your nausea. Due to the stress you had been feeling since the morning, you could only manage to drink water, and the bitter taste of rising bile lingered because there was nothing to expel.
Not now. Not now. I can't throw up now, no. Please no.
While desperately trying to calm yourself down through self-assurance, the door of the room opened quietly, causing you to freeze in place. When Lin Kuei's grandmaster stepped into the room in all his glory, a cold breeze also entered with him.
You trembled like a leaf in the thin nightgown you were wearing. Maybe it was due to the tension you felt, you didn't know, but the grandmaster's large body made the room suddenly feel small.
‘‘What are you doing here?’’
The deepest sound you'll ever hear in your life echoed through the room. You swallowed; you were sure you hadn't done anything wrong, but the way the man was asking made you doubt yourself.
‘‘I was brought here,’’ you said in a soft voice. Compared to the turmoil inside, you were glad that your voice came out smoothly and clearly, without cracking. ‘’Did I do something wrong to make you angry?’’
‘‘I don't want you to be here.’’
As the grandmaster approached you with confident strides, you made an effort to project an air of composure, stifling the inner protests urging you to step back and maintaining a poised posture.
You didn't want him to think that you were afraid of him; it was too dangerous to put such power in his hands already.
Once the distance between you closed, you were able to look at him decently for the first time, having to tilt your head back a little to do so.
He was dressed in a traditional outfit of dark blue and black with the colors of his clan, and there was the clan's crest on a silver brooch attached to the left side of his chest. The grandmaster in these clothes looked more like the Chinese monarchs who passed through ancient times than a warrior in it.
His black hair was carefully gathered, and his complexion, pale enough to reflect the moonlight, framed a masculine face. With an arched nose, thin lips, and a jaw marked by strong lines, his features were striking.
Yet, what left the most significant impression and held your gaze was his eyes. Unblinking, dark orbs conveyed pronounced arrogance, a testament to his accustomed habit of looking down on others, coupled with a commanding power that compelled obedience. His dominant air shifted the room's atmosphere in an instant.
Normally, intimidation never came easily to you, a trait instilled by the harsh experiences your own family subjected you to. Your family, especially your demanding late father and your brother following in his footsteps, shaped your resilience. No one had the luxury of choosing their family, so you learned to keep your guard up and navigate around them.
Despite being a stranger, the man before you exhibited a fundamental difference that set him apart from the individuals in your family within seconds. Wordlessly, through his upright posture and tense shoulders, he conveyed a silent threat, one that lingers and continues to affect you.
‘’This is my room," stated the grandmaster. Although his voice was as quiet as the night itself, it resonated so deeply that it seemed to rumble in your ears. "The fact that we are married does not mean that we will share the same room. This marriage is no more than an alliance; you are my wife on paper, not in reality."
You remained silent, unsure of how to respond. This revelation caught you off guard, and as the temperature in the room dropped, you had no doubt that the grandmaster started to notice your trembling body.
In a whispering voice, you finally managed to ask, "But shouldn't we be fulfilling the binding of the marriage ceremony?"
"I can clearly see that you don't want to do this; you look as timid as a bird," remarked the man. One of his black eyebrows slightly lifted in a mocking manner. "I've heard that birds have heart attacks and die when they get too scared. Is that what happens when I touch you?’’
Despite the cold in the room, your cheeks flushed with embarrassment and a touch of anger at being perceived as weak. The man's words carried a sarcastic, arrogant tone that ignited a surge of anger within you.
You lifted your chin and looked directly into the eyes that were carefully watching your every move like a hawk. This action of yours was bold, perhaps even displaying a rudeness unbecoming of a noble woman, but in that moment, you didn't care.
‘’I am here to fulfill my duty.’’
"We've both just fulfilled what was expected of us already, little bird.’’
You frowned at the sarcastic nickname that came out of his cold voice.
‘’On paper, you are my wife, and I am your husband. We are no more than that. We won't be. If you want this alliance to be sustainable, don't take the ring off your finger, don't try to pry into my business, and keep your mouth shut as long as you're around me. I'm sure you're talented enough to do all of these things.’’
Without giving you a chance to answer, the grandmaster grabbed you by the arm and kind of dragged you after him towards the door, while the coldness emanating from his hand took your breath away.
‘‘Your own room is at the very end of this corridor, I'll call someone in a moment to bring your things.’’
When he closed the door in your face as he finished his words, you stayed where you were in shock. Not only were you kicked out like a little child, you were also insulted.
You stayed there, your rapidly beating pulse create a ringing in your ears, while your breath coming out of your lips created a thin smoke in front of you.
You had failed the first task you were expected to perform. You knew that when you had to report to your brother, he would ask you questions about tonight and wonder if you were successful in influencing him. If you tried to lie, he would catch it very easily. You've had enough time to ignore this concern for now, but you've fallen into a complete unknown about what you should do.
As you walked towards your room with silent steps, you also felt more humiliated than ever. You've never heard of a woman being kicked out of a room on her wedding night.
Marriage was a sacred bond, according to the belief the marriage would end the same way it began. You knew well how important it was to fulfill this, especially for those who care about old traditions, such as your own clan.
Despite the marriage being crafted for an alliance, even if it was merely a facade, both sides exchanged marriage vows. While the incomplete conclusion of the ceremony lessened your concerns about the first night, it now overwhelmed you with anxiety and humiliation that you couldn't fulfill it.
Tomorrow morning, when you emerged from another room, everyone in Lin Kuei would find out the truth. Was the grandmaster's reluctance to touch you solely due to your status as his enemy? Or perhaps, beyond that, did he harbor a dislike for your appearance? Maybe that's why he wanted you out of his sight as soon as possible.
‘’Why does it matter what he think?’’
You said to yourself. Crossing to your room, you closed the door behind you and sat down directly in front of the windows, which illuminated the room with moonlight, without bothering to look inside.
‘’It doesn't matter what he think about me, he is my enemy, and I am his. I need to figure out how I can get this resolved as quickly as possible, that's all.’’
While reassuring yourself, you nervously nibbled on your lower lip. The challenges ahead were proving to be far more demanding than anticipated, yet you hadn't found the courage to vocalize this realization.

FINALLY. FUCKING FINALLY FINISHED JESUS CHRIST.
Ok so. Heres the general breakdown for attack types:
Basic attacks: These attacks just use the weapons that manifest during their magical girl transformation. Theres no limit to using these. They don't utilize all that much magic but are still effective because the weapons are technically MADE of magic.
Ult attacks: Utilize more magic and have a recharge time of about 5 to 10 minutes (which is a pretty long time in a fight). They can only be used after quite a bit of practice, as they require the ability to channel a lot of magic in a short amount of time. A familiar and their person must be able to work together in order for it to be effective. The familiar has to be capable of funneling the magic to the caster, and the caster has to have experience CASTING it.
Specialized spells: Each one of these attacks is different from person to person. These don't necessarily have to be attacks, they can also be defenses or evasions. These are usually the most difficult for a caster to master and take even more magic than the Ult attacks. A magical girl typically uses it the first time on accident, during the heat of the moment where they are desperately drawing on more magic to defend themselves. After that it is a concentrated effort to cast these spells. It's usually a signifier that the magic is starting to settle in them and that they're ready to cast more. The recharge time for these spells is 10 to 15 minuites.
The recharge time for casting spells will decrease the more a caster is composed of magic... which is a post for later lmao. As much as I would love to get into the fun ship of Theseus glitter body horror in this post it would just take to long lmao but its COMIN EVENTUALLY I PROMISE.
Tumblr media
Johnny is an excellent fighter because of his POWER and his RANGE. He's best suited to fighting merged ghosts because it's one big target to aim a lot of power at. His Ult spirals out from around him and can help prevent him from getting caught if a bunch of separate ghosts try to swarm him. The downside is that its harder to direct, and he's in danger of hitting teammates if they're in his range (which I said earlier is pretty large). His specialized spell conjures essentially a cannon of fire, which he can aim wherever he pleases. His magical recharge time is slightly shorter than he norm, and he strikes me as the type of person who would use them IMMIDIETLY after he recharges.
Johnny has trouble if he doesen't have enough room to move his Scythe around. He works best in big open spaces. Hallways and elevators and the like are a BIG nope.
Tumblr media
Robbie is unique among the other ghost fighters because 1. He's the least experienced and 2. He probably has the MOST trouble getting along with his familiar (I cant see him and Eli getting along in any fuckin universe tbh). Because of this he's not as adept at channeling large amounts of magic. When he does try at an Ult attack it usually has a much smaller effect than the others (see top right with him swinging his hammer). This means he focuses mostly on non magical attacks; having two modes to use his hammers (regular and on the end of chains to give him range). He's not as powerful so he has to be more CREATIVE. His magical recharge time is about what I described at the top.
He fights best at close range and can use his chained hammers to drag enemies that are usually too far away closer to him (GET OVER HEREEEE fuck yeah mortal kombat). His big weakness is that his smaller weapons dont allow him to block as easily, so he needs to focus on dodging or using his specialized spell, teleporting, to get out for the way (mostly dodging though. he's not great at teleporting). He HAS to stay aware of his surroundings or he could get surprised very easily.
Im gonna need. A whole nother post to try and figure out how the charger fits into all this lmao.
Tumblr media
Dannyyyy!!! His funky moon staff was so fun for me to think about. One idea that I thought of after getting everything drawn is him sticking it around a ghosts neck and using it to guide them around and use that ghost as a shield. He has similar weakness to Johnny in that he needs space to move and cast spells. His arm guards make him just the littlest bit more able to block attacks but he still primarily uses his staff to stop attacks from going through (most of the others do. Yayyyyyy spinny capabilities).
@moosemonstrous made the WONDERFUL suggestion of his specialized spell being THROWS ACID ON YOU THROWS SO MUCH FUCKING ACID ON YOU REDUCED YOU TO YOUR BASE ELEMENTS GET FUCKED NERD GET ACIDED cause of his green era lmfao. He really REALLY does not enjoy this and uses it as little as possible. His magic recharge time is also just a little shorter.
Tumblr media
@rokhal YOUUUUU. You mentioned Frank having time manipulation like Homura from Madoka Magica and it spawned this whole class of spell I blame you for this.
Frank has the most experience with magical girling by FAR and its very apparent in his fighting style. He sometimes uses the magic manifested by preparing his Ult without actually COMPLETING the spell which is like. Fighting with RPG backblast in magical girl world.
Franks staff is more infused with magic than the other fighters weapons, which allows him to manipulate its length (Robbie does something to a similar effect with his chains at the cost of his magical attacks not being as strong. Frank has no such limits lol).
His specialized spell stops time for about 5 minutes. If he extends himself he can sometimes push this time longer but it is VERY tiring. He also has to be REALLY careful of his team mates movements. Positioning some metal shards for a ghost to fall onto is all well and good, unless Robbie manages to teleport directly onto it. His recharge time is much MUCH shorter than the others, it usually only takes him 2 minutes to recharge an Ult and 7 minutes to recharge his specialized spell (though that time does increase the more he uses it, so there are still consequences for expending that much magic)
ALSO CREDIT TO MOOSE AGAIN for starting the idea to have all of them be. Sort of afraid? of their specialized spells. Johnny is terrified that he will somehow manage to literally burn the, surprisingly sort of happy, life he's built to the ground. Robbie is scared one day he'll just pop out of existence entirely. That he'll just go to teleport and get stuck in the weird inbetween space of being composed of magic and thought without real form forever. Danny is almost too afraid to go near people while his spell is active because Please Jesus Christ don't get dissolved please please. Fuck this acid ability fuck it fuck this. Frank's is a nightmare and a dream in one. What if he finds a time so nice, so happy, that he just freezes it and gives everything he has to stay there forever? It's been so long since he's had a family. What if he cant bear to let this one go?

what if the gone series and mortal kombat had a crossover,,,,,
No secret that lately my hyperfixation has been Mortal Kombat 1 and i can’t stop imagining a universe where Gone is a hit tv series and a character gets introduced into MK as a guest fighter (like Omniman, Terminator etc). ive been thinkin about this for like a week straight now and had to write out some of my ideas cause this will literally never happen BUT.imagine if it did .nothing wrong with imagining right?? (im insane🫶)
Gone has a LOT of characters that would make great fighters in the game, but Drake would definitely be the most likely choice since 1) the MK series already includes characters with telekinesis, fire power, gravity etc so his whip hand would be a unique addition to the roster, 2) he’s a Gone fan favourite and 3) Drake’s character fits in perfectly with all the over the top blood & guts of mortal kombat lol. I can’t see a character like Sam or Dekka willingly carrying out the unnecessarily gory kills that happen in the games LMAO
Some stuff to mention before I actually get into the notes ive scribbled down about drake as a fighter: in my mind it’d be Gone/Hunger drake before brittney & their regeneration, just cause it saves things getting too complicated with the bodyswapping etc etc plus MK already has characters like Havik that can regenerate so it makes for fun dialogue lol. I wrote up this stuff based off the gameplay in MK1 so just.visually imagine that in ur brains when reading ok thanks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In MK1 each character has two fatalities - Drake’s first one would feature the coyotes since they were a major part of him as an antagonist near the end of the first book. The second fatality would bring in the wire he tries to slice Brianna up with during Hunger, while referencing ahead to Plague where Brianna splits him through the neck & waist.
I have a rough idea of what Drake’s fatal blow would be like - starting the fatal blow with a basic whip slash, then after the kameo fighter does their hits Drake would move in and whip the opponent again, spinning them around then kicking the back of their legs to knock them down onto their knees. The camera would shift to show the opponent’s hands encased in a cement block (signature coates academy move lol), before Drake grabs the back of their head and smashes it down against the block for the X-ray hit.
Tumblr media
Haven’t thought of the actual brutalities for him yet (he’d definitely have a couple with his guns) but I think each character has around 4 or 5 different lines they can say after completing a brutality - i did have ideas for those so i wrote some down :>
Last thing i though up for fun was a bunch of fight intro dialogue against different characters on the roster; these r all so stupid and some of them aren’t thaaat great but yknow what. i had fun thinking them up (if anyone has any more ideas pleaassjsje let me know and ill add em lol)

I know i talk a lot about how much id love to see Gone as a 2D-animated series, but thinking about 3D models of the gone cast in the style of MK1 would be so sick… would also be fun to see other characters carrying out their fatalities on drake LMAO, always love to see that guy getting his ass kicked

Kalego Naberius sketches
Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun! (yes, I'm watching the dub) is one of those rare gems that can make even me, who is legendarily terrible at sticking with any series due to my many hobbies, watch it till the very end, and occasionally rewatch certain episodes. It's a light-hearted, funny, actually heartfelt, all-around-good-time fantasy anime that never takes itself too seriously, and has not fallen into the usual problems of "turning into a brutal Mortal Kombat gorefest" or "powerlevels so high they are knocking the goddamn Moon out of its orbit at this point" other shonen anime have. So far, that is, and I'm rooting that it will stay on course. The animation itself may not be top notch at all times, but it more than makes up for that with heart, good character writing, witty worldbuilding, and genuinely good humor. Hell, as someone who rarely watches anime, I wasn't even that bothered by the animation quality, it's passable even at the lowest.
And of course, we have a new favorite from the cast - Professor Kalego Naberius. This guy's a goddamn legend, and I love everything about him - his design, his English voice, his personality all lend themselves to the perfect teacher to watch over the main cast, and occasionally nuke them with insane levels of homework, because they totally deserved it! Funny thing is, Kalego is the exact type of person whom I would really not like, or even fear in real life, but in this super happy fun-time anime, he is my spirit animal. He needs much more screen time! Also, he just needs to absolutely destroy Opera down the line for being the little shitty secret bully he had turned out to be in Season 2. I like to think that is what is going on in the lower right corner sketch.

Something that’s struck me lately is how the fanbase for Marisha specifically seems to have shrunk dramatically as of late, and so I wanted to talk through it. Noting this up front but: I’m making this rebloggable to start, but will not hesitate to lock it down if people can’t behave. It's an observation, not an accusation per se and definitely not any judgment on Marisha herself; in fact, I think it really sucks for her that this is what's happened.
I can expand on any of this but in the briefest of terms: the intense misogyny in the fandom in Campaign 1 and particular hatred towards Keyleth, culminating in death threats, led, among other things, to a fanbase that was extremely protective. However, by the time I joined the fandom with Campaign 2, the misogyny, while never gone, had significantly reduced (and in general the dudebro portion of the fanbase, while again never fully gone, has been on a decline as the cast became more open about their politics and the world of Exandria became more diverse.) This protectiveness became extreme - completely reasonable in-game conflict between Beau and other characters were perceived as acts of hostility, neutral remarks about Beau in comparison to other characters were interpreted as criticism, and so on. A party line solidified as time went on, of Marisha's characters being tough leaders and hard to kill.
Throughout all of this, something that was true is that Marisha had a fanbase that followed her - obviously to the various cast one shots, but also to the G&S content during Campaign 1 (Dread, Signal Boost, etc) and scattered other things (GM-ing for the Descent Into Avernus D&D live). Her role as creative director was rightfully discussed and lauded.
Things started to shift first with the return from hiatus, and then, not quite a year later, the end of Campaign 2. People who had shipped Beau with Jester quit either when the relationships of C2 began to solidify, or following the finale. This did a pretty significant number on her fanbase, but there were a decent number of people still there; largely people who were more invested in "tough leaders, hard to kill" than her character necessarily being shipped with Laura's characters.
Enter Laudna: zero interest in leadership; extremely killable. Now, people hung on for a while; they had her back during the gnarlrock fight. But as the Bassuras arc wore on and the clear central woman of the campaign was Imogen, they grew quieter, and by the time Laudna died (extremely killable), she was little more than ship fodder. Two things ten happened: The original crowd began to fade away, but a fairly significant influx of new people came in, intrigued by the potential for a relationship...and if she'd been little more than ship fodder to start, she was, more than ever, half of a whole now.
The defensiveness about Marisha's characters shifted now to Laura's character, and while Laudna was vocally beloved, she wasn't defended in the same way. It's started up again, slightly, but notably only after she entered a relationship, and compared to C2? It's incredibly lazy and sluggish, often appearing days or weeks after the criticism, and the appeals to stop all critical analysis based on misogynist hate, never a valid argument to begin with (and rarely accompanied by one either), are even weaker 6+ years down the line.
But the most notable thing I've noticed is that people don't follow Marisha to things outside the main campaign anymore. I noticed it first with Candela Chapter 2, and then this week with the Mortal Kombat one-shot. It used to be that if Marisha GM-ed something, particularly in a cool wig and a crop top, her fans showed up in force. Even with Calamity, while the numbers weren't what they once were, there was something, but Aunt Beatrix isn't young and hot and shippable and so there's no one watching for her.
I've seen virtually no conversation other than my posts about the Candela SDCC panel, which very much showcases her creative direction; while I get that Midst is a whole other thing to get into and podcasts aren't everyone's thing, it is very much her and Sam's involvement, and her discussion during that panel was great, and there's nothing. It feels both ironic and deeply sad that someone who was dismissed both as no more than the DM's girlfriend out of game and Vax's annoying love interest in it, and who's talked about the pressure towards youth and beauty as likely informing her D&D characters, is reduced to "can we ship it"; it makes a lot of sense there's little discussion of that creative direction, because, well, you cannot ship it.
Because the hard "no criticism allowed stance" present specifically within Marisha's fanbase at least as early as the beginning of Campaign 2, it meant that a single unpopular choice from her has cost her large swathes of her fans. And for what it's worth, I don't think she necessarily knows, or cares, but it does make me wonder: if Laudna hadn't said yes to Imogen...would there be anyone left watching who would name her as their favorite cast member?

Annon-Guy: What's your stance on the character intros and outros in Guilty Gear StrIVe and GranBlue Fantasy Versus?
Even if you don't know the cast, can you get good impressions based on her animations and personality triats?
For example, Sol is very gruff and not extravagant as for his intro, he just calmly walks onto the stage while his outro just has him turn his back on the opponent and smirk at them while criticizing them.
With Bedman?, it features Delilah walking by herself until Bedman? appears behind and places a protective hand in front of her and in the outro, Bedman? raises Delilah up in a brother love like fashion with It's hand with Delilah smiling back at It.
In GranBlue Fantasy Versus, most of the unique interactions mostly occur from the 2P side as the 1P side is mostly them just walking in or standing in position as they get ready and even then, the 1P side has some good moments of characterization.
Like, for Djeeta, on the 2P side, she mainly talks about the opponent with Lyria and Vern, but on the 1P side, Lyria is clutching her dress in concern until Djeeta puts a reassuring hand on her hand before Vyrn and Lyria wish Djeeta luck. With their outro, it mostly features the three joining in a triumpht cheer and arm pump.
And even though 2B's dialogue is mostly reused, she has good animations that remain true to her series and express her character. Her Pod analysis' the opponent in both, but where her 1P side just has her walk in, her 2P side has her come out of her Black Box in an epic fashion to show you that a YorHa Android is not to be messed around with. Additionally, both Intros have her adress the fighters by their In-Game Titles, which is a good forth wall break without intending to be so, which a nice touch of detail. And while 2B's outro isn't too special, she checks in with her commanding officer, showing that 2B is a loyal and just soldier.
What do you think though? Got some characters that stick out in this department?
Give me a minute to read all this:
I'm gonna say that both Strive and Granblue (and well, MOST 2.5D animated fighting games come to think on it) suffer from "Talking head syndrome".
Phase 1: Character 1 walks on stage, does some dynamic thing by themselves.
Phase 2: Closeup of character talking.
Phase 3: Character 2 walks up and responds to Character 1.
Phase 4: Zoom out and fight starts.
It's been like this since Mortal Kombat 9, to be honest… and all it really does is illustrate the idea that fighting game characters in 3D have a very hard time in production to be animated in interactive dynamic ways.
I think Tekken 8 is literally the FIRST 3D fighting game to legitimately feature "clash intros" between rival characters ever since the days of Guilty Gear Accent Core and Street Fighter Alpha had their famous "2D clash sequences".
To give you some keen examples:
Tumblr media
Here's the BlazBlue equivalent:
youtube
The overall structure of modern fighting game intros puts emphasis on Player 1 initiating the conversation while Player 2 reciprocates.
(For a Strive example, Baiken's Intro is very long and dramatic, but if you switch to Player 2 side, Baiken's intro is much shorter... )
But in older games there was more of a balanced back and forth between characters.
Characterization is often predicated on the way a character's body language introduces them, though many intros are "bombastic", they are mostly tied to the character being introduced... that character does "not" interact with the other character physically until the fight actually begins...
Compare/Contrast Sol's Intro and Outros from previous games:
(By the way, it's not shown, but Sol bites the bullet, lighting it up with his flames, then flips it in to his weapon's gun chamber, spins it, and swipes his sword outward, creating a shockwave in his Xrd intro. This was a dual nod to an older intro where Sol would throw his sword in to the air and catch it as it came down in front of him.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's what I mean by "talking head syndrome"... it's just two characters talking, they aren't actually making contact with one another.
Mortal Kombat 1 features both characters clashing ala Injustice 2 style clashes, but in terms of a gimmick, it's a universal clash mechanic (meaning it isn't very unique or special between two specific character rivals, even if the dialogue is original between them).
Tumblr media
It's been a long time since Street Fighter Alpha 3:
Tumblr media
That's not to say that current intros don't ideally express a character well... it's just not on the same level as 2D fighting games of long ago that carried that dynamism.
What is "outstanding" in terms of character expression ranges from exaggerated sweeping movements to subtle adjustments to a character's hair as it blows in the wind.
Your mileage of opinion may vary on this.
For example, Ramlethal's outro where the Dog climbs on her and licks her face... while that's a cute freeze-frame moment, it's not QUITE as heroic-looking as Nagoriyuki's outro which shows his jacket flowing in the wind as he sheathes his katana as his mask opens to reveal his face.
Another example is Bedman's intros and outros in Xrd:
You will literally see Bedman flying around the screen with a white backdrop like he's a ghost out of a horror film... Delilah's outro with the Bedframe evokes a completely different set of emotions.
In terms of Granblue intros, while there are some good ones out there (like Vaseraga and Beelzebub), they are still very limited by the basic rule that "Character 1 does something only Character 1 can do, while Character 2 reacts to it".
While there are some personal quotes between rivals/friends, and they range from highly amusing to world-immersing, I often find that the broader "character expression" in these games lies within the music:
Take this song for example:
youtube
At first glance you might not know, but this is Zeta versus Vaseraga's Rival Theme (the intro builds up a bit quicker in-game though).
Even Sol and Ky have had rival themes for many years, if that's not obvious enough.
youtube
I'd say, getting a "full impression" of a character nowadays is a LOT harder than it used to be... and not just because of animation differences.
It's also heavily expressed in the story-writing: intros alone won't tell you a character's full story... especially if they are a complex character.
Young players might make the mistake of relying heavily on first impressions to judge whether or not a character "looks cool", but in most cases, game developers pull out ALL THE STOPS in order to achieve great things with their designs.
By and large, it mostly means that character design in fighting games is always very LAYERED... there's lots of minute details you will probably miss if you don't study the game carefully.
Are there "outstanding designs" out there? Likely true, but from my perspective, I favor the whole tapestry to simply looking at one square of the quilt.
It isn't JUST the fact that character A is cool and character B is also cool and their rival... it's so much more complex than that.
Character A has several rivals, there's an SS-class bounty on their head, and everyone's out to kill them, so they have unique intros with everyone (for a famous example).
Does that always get expressed well? Not always, but I think the attempt more than makes up for it.
Nowadays even fans are making fan-made clash intros!
I'll leave this here for you to ponder:
