Early 1900s, dinosaurs deemed sluggish, stupid, pointless evolutionary failures. most people not really into dinosaurs anymore. this continues until

1960s: Deinonychus discovered. suddenly, dinosaurs interesting again: vibrant, lively, warm blooded animals. Also... birds might be dinosaurs?

from the 60s through the 70s, a slow buildup of dinosaur culture - both in crappy stop motion movies, but also in children's books and other media

Heads up… it's Fossil Friday! In this archival image, Museum preparators work on a trio of Tyrannosaur skulls. With 4-ft- (1.2-m-) long jaws and powerful bone-crushing teeth, T. rex was one of the largest and most fearsome carnivores of all time. In fact, this dinosaur could bite with about 7,800 pounds of force (34,500 N)—the equivalent to the weight of three cars! No living animal, and few extinct ones, could rival its bite.

Although Tyrannosaurus rex is one of the most renowned dinosaurs, few of the fossil specimens recovered by paleontologists are complete. The first partial T. rex skeleton was discovered by a curator from the Museum—the legendary Barnum Brown—and we have one of the few specimens of T. rex on public display! Fun fact: The Museum’s T. rex specimen, AMNH 5027, inspired the cover of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park.

went to the planetarium today, it was super nice^^

it turns out reflective nebula are made from diamonds, and that stars actually pulsate a bunch before they die, didn't know these things before

#aquarium; zoo; theatre; museums; planeterium got all the big things checked off now #though I guess we could also still go to an amusement park #we like went through the amusement place district park something it's not really fenced in called the Prater on the way home #but getting on any of these rides would've been a bit ridiculous as a tag-on to the planetarium date #so we let that be for now #maybe next summer^^#rambles from the moonsink #head full of girlfriend ^_^
