Okay we knew she was going to talk about it in her first solo record. I guess Pardi got cut because he’s not faithful. Well then.
Let’s talk about the guitars on this track, I want her goth’d out for all these performances. I want her in black with the rock band behind her rapping her ass off. I want it mixed in with other tracks from Traumazine which will definitely blend well with this. I want it heavy as fuck. I want her leaning into all the metal this song is giving. I never knew I needed something so much in my whole life!
I can’t wait for the album. I’m excited. Traumazine was incredible and slept on. Yes, because she’s a woman. Between Meg and Rapsody, my cup runneth over!
Happy 30th Birthday to Black Reign! A beautiful record by Ms Queen Latifah 🎈
You gotta really enjoy the levels of Latifah’s talents. This album finds Queen Latifah flexing all her muscles vocally, as an emcee as a storyteller and as a songstress. It’s got so many great cuts on it, UNITY, Just Another Day and more. It’s heavy, it’s jazzy, and it’s thoughtful, sexy and smart as fuck. It’s cultured. It’s gangster. It’s a game changer for women being themselves in the industry. She took so many risks on this record and they all paid off. It’s a legendary early 90s effort. It also captures Latifah as she was getting into her acting bag and you can see how she flips and expands her range on so many tracks like Weekend Love and Mood Is Right, highlighting her eventual foray into sitcoms, romantic comedy and more. It’s a great record. Happy birthday to Black Reign! ♥️
Did you get to experience Wall of Eyes On Film? Or are you about to? We bundled up in the freezing cold and let us tell you it was absolutely worth it. New episode tomorrow!
Artist / Producers or Anyone , that works / edits /mixes w/ vocal production , Do you cut as "deadspace" out? Its A VERY Time consuming process , but worth it esp. if your mic is garbage , My new ones alot better but I still do this!
This book was boring as shit. Like how can you be boring and pretentious at the same time? Author Susan Rogers succeeds.
In the famous words of Cardi B: “she says she’s my OP but I don’t know her, had to look her up…”
This book was abysmal. I’ll tell you what the problem is: the author didn’t know what she wanted this book to be. And it shows. She wanted to flex and say how she knew Prince and did worked with him on Purple Rain.. she wanted to say how she was given a pass by Miles Davis to be like critical in his presence. Which is not something to brag about because Miles Davis being the crazy womanizer we’ve heard he is, and more, doesn’t make her being given a pass to speak the W that she thinks it is. Clout chasing at your big age? Ma’am.
Anyway.. I just.. this book was insipid, pretentious, and I would’ve appreciated it actually if it was more scientific and did not include any anecdotal or like memoir type information.
I feel like if the author could control her self a little bit this book would’ve been somewhat readable but because she wanted to smash all these elements together and she actually doesn’t know how to write about music, and fell into music production on some sidelined, I chased my dreams here tho I was faking it till I made it, it just was hard to enjoy in my opinion and it came out terrible.
Bob Boilen, Hanif Abdurraqib, Joan Morgan, Dan Charnas are much better music writers, even when it comes to incorporating or explaining technical elements of music. They write about music with way more finesse and make it infinitely more readable than this book soo don’t waste ya time on this read.
