Hey listen,
My Girlfriend is an Alien is highly underrated imo. I don't see enough people talk about (I know it's not new or exciting exactly but still)
It's so sweet and silly and just when you're not expecting it you're suddenly crying on the bathroom floor with your phone bc how TF were you supposed to be emotionally prepared for our sweet Xiao Qi to cry over loving Fang Leng.
I know it's very silly and not always well written and it comes across as such a goofy little Cdrama, but it's worth a lot more than you see at first glance. I'll never emotionally recover from this series.

Drama Tropes Ranked!
From the major plot points to the minor details, I'm ranking popular drama tropes. 10 being "not again!" and 1 being I look forward to it every time. This is not a knock on any particular dramas; this is just a partial rant and partial having fun.
10. Childhood crush
This trope is so overused I actually expect it now in dramas. It was adorable the first few times, but now it's past its prime.
9. "Accidental" Kiss
Nearly every show has gravity and fate playing together to bring two pairs of lips together. Whoops!
8. Ice-faced CEO
This phrase is more often used in novels, but it can be applied to dramas as well. And I don't just mean CEOs, but also doctors, lawyers, whoever. I'm just tired of men with no emotion as the leading character.
7. Klutzy Girl
She is beauty, she has grace, she will fall flat on her face. This trope is often paired with the Ice-faced CEOs and while it can be cute, I roll my eyes oftentimes.
6. Girl dresses as a guy and gets away with it.
We could just knock down the costuming/makeup department for this one, but I have seen women dress as men in dramas and it looks legit! Nini in "The Rise of Phoenixes" is a prime example. Most often I laugh at this trope rather than hate it.
5. Princess Carry
Oh no! Girl has hurt her foot, bleeding from her head, ripped her dress or stubbed her toe! How to solve this problem? The infamous princess carry!
4. 2 Guys Chase 1 Girl
It's one of the oldest tropes out there and yet still doesn't get old. Who will the girl choose? Watch the drama and find out.
3. A Misunderstanding Tears Love Apart
How to break apart fated lovers? A misunderstanding, cuz the guy can't be too evil towards the girl and the girl can't be too evil towards the guy. It's true love, guys, we have to get them back together eventually.
2. My lover's family killed my family
This trope is not often used, because it's really dark. Sometimes it can be a misunderstanding leading us back to #3, but when it's real...oh boy, we're in for some tears between our main leads. This trope brings real drama and tragedy.
Enemies to Lover
We love to see it. Two people hate each other, then fall madly in love. While it doesn't have to include weapons, they do give more danger to their love. Then there are also the modern enemies: business rivals, boss and underling or the awful neighbors. Whatever the situation. If it's hate to love, I love it.
Are there any on this list that you also have strong feelings towards? Are there any tropes that I missed?

hands down kinn wears the best suits I've ever seen in a drama. close runner up is fang leng (my girlfriend is an alien) and it's only because he's so "charismatic" that he could wear a trash bag and still have me in a chokehold.

Out of context: she is a scary stalker who shows up at his home and workplace and have also touched him without his consent several times
In context: so they both have no memories of their love from an alternate timeline, she is an alien who's trying to complete a mission amd thinks he is the enemy, she gets distracted by his hormones

S2 EP1 Commentary
ONLY 10 MIN IN TO MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN ALIEN S2 AND I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS
I love using the sapphire for the wedding ring. For the ofmd au, i was thinking of having Izzy's ring be secret alien technology, so now I'm definitely writing that
Also I'm like 100% sure that S1 established men don't exist on Cape Town so that's bullshit. They wanted to introduce someone from her home planet yearning for her, so they changed it. More food for the Jiang Xue AU.

There's a band I really like called the Sarah Michelles
This song is about a guy who wants to make his gf feel good but she's an alien and just doesn't work that way. It's light-hearted and to me I also feel like it's deep because it could be about someone who's ace or has trauma, and sex is just complicated and it's nice when someone earnestly wants to make you feel good even if it doesn't happen.
This one is based on Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf and anyone who's neurotic in a similar fashion. It's genuinely comforting for me as it's about being a disappointment to your parents, but once again light-hearted and super funny.
They have other songs I like but these are the main two :)

My Girlfriend is a Alien. 8
Story: 8
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 9/10
Comparable to: My Love From a Star (kdrama) ; My Amazing Boyfriend (cdrama) ; I Robot (kdrama)
This is a hard one for me to judge. In some ways I absolutely love this drama and in other ways I really don’t. At first the storyline seems to be great, yes it’s cliche and predictable but it was entertaining and hilarious also. Well for me at least anyway. Yes it did start to get repetitive and drawn out, especially midway. I almost considered fast forwarding through some scenes, but I didn’t. Now the chemistry between the main leads at times I felt were somewhat lackluster but other times like fire. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly but there were moments that you could feel Bie Thassapak Hsu and Wan Peng connect then other scenes not so much. Maybe it was the way Wan Peng’s character was written for me. The character could become slightly overbearingly too much. 🤷♀️. I’m just now starting the second season which I will admit feels kinda ‘meh’. Honestly you don’t have to watch the second to feel complete nor likewise do you have to watch the first in order to understand the second. Nonetheless Its still a fun entertaining romcom. I definitely recommend watching it at least once for romcom fans.
