So I’m having this #existential #crisis with #plastic & #recycling. I don’t know where it all goes once I #separate it & I hate getting #utensils that I just throw away, so I figured out PART of a #solution. Here is some nifty 3 in one camping #silvervare that I literally got off #amazon for $10. Now I set all my delivery preferences to say ‘#noplasticutensils please’ and voila. I can’t control anything beyond myself, so I’m going to start looking at what & how I #consume. Because so much of this #convenience stuff is just lazy. Plastic knives don’t cut worth a damn anyway. They will not be missed. I’m watching #MadMen right now & I highly recommend it. It’s given me some crazy perspective on how carefree we were when there were a billion people less on the #planet. I can’t change the #world, but at least I can do my best to not give up #caring & if everyone suddenly did the same thing & it was just a cultural norm to carry silverware around #NeoYork with you, wouldn’t that be something? Overcrowded (sobrepoblados)

Sigue siendo verano y además de temperaturas altas, en Nueva York hay muchos eventos gratis. Clases y talleres de lo que sea (desde origami, hasta danza o escritura y uno de “cómo hacer cestas de pan tejidas” -sí,posta), ferias de helado, fiestas en barcos, trivias de Harry Potter y recitales al aire libre. Y como buena conurbana que se precie de serlo, y porque no sólo de fideos mac and cheese hasta que manden la tarasca vive la becaria, al toque que empezó el calor me automandé una serie de emails cubriendo todos los días de la semana con algún evento gratarola. Claro, idealmente cerraba perfecto el tema de la gratuidad, pero bueno, después en el evento te querés tomar una birria, querés comerte un heladito o hacer una parada estratégica en la caminata (porque esperar el subte en esta época del año es prohibitivo) y tomar algo fresco...lo que era abstractamente un plan gratis como el aire termina no siéndolo.

Así y todo, fui a un par de cosas piolas. En los recitales pude comprobar que lo del espacio personal es serio. Nadie empuja, nadie aprieta, nadie se mete por los recovecos para llegar más cerca del escenario. Bueno, nadie excepto yo y me comí algunas bardeadas. Pero es que para una que viene del país del pogo, es casi exasperante: está mal si te movés entre los espacios intersticiales implícitamente demarcados y celosamente vigilados. Y aunque les artistes se se refieren a la acumulación de gente como “the crowd” en sus alocuciones al público, no creés que lo sea. Una ‘crowd’ para mí es un tumulto, una menjunje desordenado de personas, una masa critica, un quilombo.

(A tal punto llega este obsesión por la separación entre sujetas que en Año Nuevo, en la famosa bajada del globo en Times Square, ponen como unas jaulas para ordenar a la gente que hace fila desde la 1pm, lo que implica que no pueden “salir” de las jaulas -claro- ni para ir al baño, todo en pos de la evitación del contacto)

Lo paradójico de todo esto del respeto y la defensa exacerbada del espacio personal es que Manhattan es una islita mínima en la que viven millones de personas. O sea, cómo hacés para no tener contacto con los demás si a cada cosa a la que vas hay cientos de miles de seres humanos: el desfile de Macy’s para Acción de Gracias, los fuegos artificiales del 4 de Julio, entregan dough ice cream (la masa de las galletitas sin cocinar fría) gratis o es el festival del florecimiento del cerezo (existe de verdad, y ojo es re lindo)...lleno de gente por todos lados. Pero el/la neoyorker actúa como si estuviera solo/a en el mundo. Camina rápido, se exaspera porque la gente no avanza, toma taxis para llegar más rápido a lugares (algo sumamente ridículo, te lo digo porque lo probé), y encima, espera que nadie la/lo toque en el subte atestado o en un recital...

Tampoco es que vaya a hacer una oda al tumulto pegajoso y favorable en muchas ocasiones al manoseo y al pungeo al que nos tienen acostumbrades en nuestros eventos. Sólo manifiesto que resulta extraño, que se siente ajeno esto de tener tanto control sobre el propio cuerpo en medio de una masa de gente, aunque estén bailando.

Volviendo al tópico recital, el de Princesa Nokia y Mon Lafert estuvo muy bueno igual, pero es tema de otro post donde resaltaré la conexión de la primera con el público y criticaré como los gringos blancos se aburren con todo lo que no sea su cultura yanqui masiva del entretenimiento.

Okay, so basically, I have this terrible trait that within about 5 minutes of knowing/talking to a person I will make a judgement on whether I will like them or hate them. It's normally always wrong but it just happens and it's really annoying and I hate myself for it most of the time but oh well, sucks for them

Now I will always first and foremost say Peter Pan because that story was my favourite all the way throughout my childhood and I will always love it. I wanted to be one of the Lost Boys with Peter and never grow up and have fun... Nowadays I'd definitely say that The Fault In Our Stars is my favourite (and not because I'm following trends) but it means so much to me and the story holds real-to-life meanings
