it’s not an issue that izzy didn’t get a sea burial!

historically pirates did get buried on land when they died on land or when they died near land. most historians think this indicates a preference for land burial. it was certainly much closer to what we think of as dignified death rites than a burial at sea, which is literally just chucking the guy overboard

burial at sea wasn’t just a ritualistic thing - it was practical. dead bodies don’t smell good and they attract bugs and let’s be honest they’re not great to look at. so you do not want one clogging up your ship for weeks before you find a port to bury them in, especially when that port might be owned by folks who are not very welcoming of the dead bodies of pirates or people of other nationalities or people who don’t follow their religion. burial at sea was necessary for the health and welfare of the living people on the ship

this doesn’t apply to izzy - not only is there suitable land nearby, it’s land with personal meaning, because it’s next to what is now ed and stede’s house

burying him on land was probably a nice touch rather than a disservice. his grave will be tended. he rests beside the home of people who knew him. he rests in a place which is known and immovable. there’s a physical location people can go to if they want to mourn him there

and ultimately it doesn’t matter because this is the show that has shown time and time again that it could not care less about historical accuracy

Arranged marriage AU with Barbarian Bakugou who is so daunting to be around at first. He’s all gruff curses and broad shoulders and scarred cheeks and neck and jaw. He scowls constantly, stares at you while your parents auction you off like some show pig, but doesn’t say much to you besides a grunt of his name. You’re terrified, thinking that he’ll be cruel to you, that you’re being set up for a life full of unhappiness and terror and regret.

But he’s the exact opposite. Bakugou is gentle in ways a man of his size typically wouldn’t be, but he shrinks himself for you. Not in a way that diminishes his status as the newly appointed king, but to respect you, show you that you’re beside him instead of behind him.

He picks you berries on his hunts because he knows the smell of a fresh kill brings nausea to your stomach. You find him along with the other maidens and helpers around his village, sitting beside them, big fingers holding tiny little flowers that he weaves into a crown for you. When he sets it on your head, he purses his lips, mutters something under his breath in his language that you’re still not too familiar with, but sure it means something along the lines of pretty and soft.

And when he finds you bathing in the river only few have access to, he’s sweet the whole time. Doesn’t make a spectacle of you being naked, and is relieved when you don’t instantly cower when he wades his way over to you. You try not to stare at the clawed scars that decorate his pec and jaw when he stands above you, and it helps when he suddenly dumps water all over your head. He shushes you when you splutter, continues on with cupping his hands and letting the water run off of your hair and down your shoulders, scrubbing at your skin until your flesh squeaks. He doesn’t expect you to do the same for him, but he hums in satisfaction when you push him down a little lower so you can wash the crown of his head.

#I don’t think I’ve ever actually written a full blown barbarian bkg fic which should be a crime #bc there are so many good ideas for it #but I’ve been struggling with writing creatively so I will put this idea as a full fic on the back burner for now lol #in the drafts for another 8 months! ☝🏻#sorry I’m lying I’m about to write it rn aidsjdhdjf #anyway interaction has been so low and that doesn’t help with the low energy level when it comes to writing #I do it for myself but it’s a little sad when it feels like I’m talking to myself since I do that enough already lmfao #it’s the beginning of the semester tho so I GET IT bc I’m struggling to read too #this semester isn’t even all that hard but I’m so mentally checked out from school that everything is so much more complicated than need be #I just need a really long break to find myself #feels like I’ve been on go for a few months straight now #okay bye my stomach started cramping really bad which is a single to take my ass to bed lmfao #—new treat in the streets! 🍫#bakugou treats! 🍬

I have the Lord of the Rings extended edition and I’m going to walk on the treadmill for 2.5 hours straight while watching it today to see if I have enough endurance now to do 20,000 steps a day

#we’ll find out #I can’t wait to try #I’ve got soda bread in the oven and crepes in the fridge and I have groceries again and I walked 17 #*17600 steps yesterday and am almost completely settled back in after last week’s stuff #and I cleaned a little bit and will clean a little bit more #and then do my strength training for pt and then do my walking and then take a bath and then read LOTR fanfiction and go to bed #this work week is going to beeping bc of how much happened last week while I was out and the technical difficulties that went down #but it’s going to be okay if I go into it fed well-rested and already put out to pasture for some exercise #personal #something painful and weird did just happen with my thumb but it’s fine again now so I’m going to choose to believe things are fine #and they probably are and will be!#and I’m doing all this in vibram toe shoes and some shortfalls #*shortalls #which is coincidental but soooooo in line with hobbit vibes it just enhances the experience I bet #I’ll report back!

Gonna slap the people who named bugs

#found a bug in my room- thought it was a sandbaby- turns out I don’t remember what a sandbaby looks like #so I do a bit of research and the first thing that I see that looks right is wind scorpion #now I need everyone here to understand that I love bugs deeply they are neat they are cool they are friends #but I have a deep fear of scorpions #zbznnsnsbsns they are extremely cool just not when they’re by me #so my first thought is shit I have to abandon my room and everything in it now it all belongs to the scorpion #but it’s late and I’m already in bed and I’m doing more research cause d u h #and turns out it’s not really a scorpion at all????
