Idea for OMARI AU Phobias! Sorry if it’s too long.

EMENTOPHOBIA/SOMETHING IN THE BIN

When Mari was really young, she got really sick and threw up often, causing her to develop a fear of throwing up. Phobia fight starts when she accidentally eats some bad food. Takes the form of a rotting body crawling out of a trash can. Mari learns “Calm Down” like sunny, but HS Mari (forgot her name) learns “Regurgitate” where she spreads her current emotion to a targeted enemy. Theme has a lot of ascending notes, like something coming up.

MYCOPHOBIA/SOMETHING IN THE CORNER

Sometime in school, Mari learned about how fungi and mushrooms grow on things that have died. This caused an inherent disgust and fear of fungi to emerge. Phobia fight starts when she sees a cluster of fungi and Mold growing in the bathroom. Something takes the form of the mold growing eyes, with rotting hands emerging from it. Mari learns Rationalize, a skill that raises defence and evasion. HS Mari learns Growth, which leeches HP from targeted enemy.

“Don’t forget, Mari remember when I was scared? Remember to think. Is it really that scary or dangerous?”

CLAUSTROPHOBIA/SOMETHING TRAPPING YOU

Referencing how when Mari buried Sunny, he was trapped in a secluded space. Phobia fight starts when Mari is packing, she accidentally locked herself in the closet. Phobia takes the form of the walls and the door having scratches, and handprints and eyes growing from it. Mari learns Persist like Sunny. HS Mari learns “Entrap” which slowly lowers attack and defence on targeted enemy.

Anyone ever notice the connection with the stairs in the Phobia fights and The Truth sequence?

And I’m not talking about the obvious connection about the location of both events- It actually has to do with the direction you take on the stairs.

In the first Phobia sequence, Acrophobia, you’re going down the stairs. In the second one, Arachnophobia, you’re going up, and in Thalassophobia, you’re going down again. this directly correlates to the number of times and the direction the stairs were taken on the day of the recital, when Mari died.

First, Sunny pushes Mari down the stairs, before following down after her. There’s also a connection with how it’s likely Sunny’s Acrophobia was either caused by or heavily worsened by this event.

Then, Sunny and Basil take Mari up the stairs, to put her in her bed. Finally, after realizing that she’s dead, they take her down the stairs again, out to the backyard. Both of these sequences also feature visions of Mari’s spirit.

This seems deliberate- while the first two phobia sequences could be a coincidence that happens to line up with how Sunny is going about his day, the third doesn’t have him on the actual stairs at all, and yet he’s still going down them.

Made this phobia for an OMORI au i’m making! It’s called MEGAMORI! I called it that because it’s a SSBU Omori au (minus the DLC) where Mega Man (or in the real world, Rock) is Omori/Sunny (roll is fucking dead). Felt like I should make the phobias be based off three robot masters (other characters in SSBU will be non fighter-characters too, the Slime girls are going to be 1 of the each Splatoon Idol, the Sprout Moles are Toads, etc etc) So have “SOMETHING IN THE FLOOR” or “FEAR OF IMPALING” or “Aichmophobia” (yes, Ik that’s the fear of sharp objects, but I branched to off to getting impaled by one so it makes more sense (1- spikes in the mega man games are quite deadly) and 2- Rock doesn’t use his buster in the real world, he uses a knife, just like sunny)

Y’know you could totally make OMORI into the plot of Devil May Cry 5

#I’ve had this thought on my mind for like a week (probably more) #Okay but SUNNY would replace Vergil hear me out on this #So Sunny splits themself because of the whole MARI event and makes OMORI and Dreamworld Sunny #OMORI replaces Urizen and doesn’t remember the truth while Dreamworld SUNNY (called DREAMER) does remember #DREAMER takes the place of V and the phobia’s take the place of V’s summons #I figured The Qliphoth could be HEADSPACE and that BASIL could be Dante who gets banished to BLACKSPACE #And for Nero I was thinking maybe AUBREY? #Sadly I can’t really think of how to incorporate HERO and KEL #But anyways for the characterization of DREAMER I was thinking that they’d be a lot like OMARI SUNNY #More specifically mikkokomori’s SUNNY and interpretation of MARI’s headspace with the whole “hey we want to help you overcome your trauma” #But about AUBREY being Nero I’m uncertain about it because there’s a scene with Nero that’s kind of intrinsic to the story #And I worry that it would be out of character for AUBREY. So basically the way it goes down is that Nero gets told that Vergil is his dad #He is told this by Dante and is urged to leave the Qliphoth. Nero then decides that he’s not going to let his uncle and father unalive #Each other. The problem is that the only thing that really makes sense to get revealed here is what happened to MARI. #And I don’t know if AUBREY would still rush back in later to stop the fight between BASIL and SUNNY after learning this #Anyways yeah that’s the au that’s been stuck in my brain I wish I could bounce ideas off someone for it but.
