do not buy onestar’s confession. i know this counts as a spoiler, but i’ll be honest i don’t care this kind of trumps that.

the book canonizes whitetail being onestar’s mate. whitetail is specifically mentioned to be his former apprentice in the same chapter this happens.

the book specifically addresses this and defends it, saying that now that whitetail’s an adult it’s ok.

it skips over her apprenticeship, we never see whitetail as a kit or apprentice. they did not need to include any reference to her being onestar’s former apprentice. they could’ve made them the same age. they didn’t need to make her his mate at all.

but they did. they very explicitly did. they chose to do this despite everything. they should’ve known better.

this is a children’s book. they have a responsibility not to publish this kind of shit.

they’ve been getting worse and worse with this over the years. they keep on making the family tree into hard canon despite the fans saying, for years, that the family tree was gross. they keep on doing this and this is the final straw. it’s gone from being ignorable to being explicitly defended in text.

you do not write this without knowing what you’re doing. this is a conscious choice on their part.

we cannot let this shit keep happening. at a certain point it becomes our responsibility to do something. please do not buy onestar’s confession and please email harper collins or whoever you have to expressing your disappointment and disgust. something needs to change.

calling onestar x whitetail “spottedleaf 2.0” is genuinely so weird imo…their relationships are drastically different and while being uncomfortable with onestar being whitetail’s prior mentor is completely fine to compare a relationship between two full fledge adults where the older one didn’t even see the younger one as a romantic option until they were a warrior is much different from thistleclaw being a full fledge warrior who was romantically in spottledleaf’s life from the moment she left the nursery. also thsi stuff has been canon from the dawn of time 😭

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about a way to make Onestar’s Confession more interesting… and better. And I was like, “Hey! Why don’t I just change the plot?”

In Crowfeather’s Trial, when Onestar banishes him, he ends up dying (how he dies is up to you) After a few days when he’s suppose to return, Onestar just tells the clan that Crowfeather probably wants to be a loner or some half-assed excuse or something idk. He ignores the nagging anxiety.

A few moons later, Onestar is asleep and Crowfeather visits him in a dream. At first Onestar is relieved. Great! Now he can ask Crowfeather where he is, have him return! Until he notices that his pelt is see through, and there’s stars floating around him.

Crowfeather is dead.

This is the fun part. Onestar’s Confession would basically be Onestar trying to cope with the guilt of being the cause of his nephew’s death.

At Gatherings, he can hardly look at Bramblestar in the eye, or Squirrelflight, or Tawnypelt. Much less his sons. Especially Breezepelt. (He tries not to think about Heathertail for too long)

They can never know what happened to him.

Meanwhile, the ghost of Crowfeather is following him, judging him. He doesn’t know if it’s his paranoia or actually Crowfeather, Onestar doesn’t wanna know.

The suspicious looks that Kestrelflight gives him don’t help.

Just saw the Onestar’s Confession spoilers

Y’all are acting like Onestar x Whitetail is something new, but it’s been canon for YEARS. We all hoped it would be retconned, but people in this fandom are acting like it came out of nowhere. I’ve also seen people comparing this to Spotted x Thistle and saying that Onestar GROOMED Whitetail, which is completely ridiculous and is actually harmful to victims of real grooming. Spottedpaw was an actual CHILD when Thistleclaw groomed her — she had no agency of her own. Whitetail is an adult — this was her choice to make, and she wasn’t coerced into it. Yeah, it’s a little weird that she decided to date/marry her old teacher, but there isn’t an egregious age gap between them (a la Pine x Leopard), and they’re both consenting adults. Also, I’ve got a little personal perspective on this, since one of my best friends’ parents are in a similar situation (her mom married her high school English teacher, who was ten years her senior, but they didn’t get together until long after she graduated). It’s weird, but it’s not actually harming anyone, and comparing it to actual pedophilia is doing a massive disservice to CSA survivors.
