On Ep. 11 of 23.5
No, you don’t understand. I am so mad because episode 11 is so good on its own and if the central conflict of Ongsa not seeing Sun beyond the idealized version of her she holds in her head and making decisions based on assumptions and Sun molding herself to be people’s ideal person had been properly developed OR if the fight in episode 10 hadn’t been kicked off by Sun forcibly outing Ongsa (and Aylin and Luna) to her parents.
Because while I do believe Ongsa saw an idealized version of Sun and did make assumptions rather than talk to her and Sun definitely was willing to mold herself to be what she believed was a more lovable person (letting Earth not show up and have a million chances, immediately forgiving Ongsa) but it wasn’t narratively framed as a problem at any point or highlighted narratively in a way that we were like 😬😬 and there were times these things felt very resolved.
On top of that, there was no sense of time between Sun offering to hide their relationship and then outing Ongsa to their families without a conversation. And I know Thai QL likes to live in the bubble, but Ongsa’s worries about coming out meant the text was conscious of homophobia and the continued shrugs of every other character made her seem crazy for being worried. Which is like, either live in the anti-homophobia bubble or give a more realistic coming out process where not everyone is like “it’s not a big deal anymore” because globally it still is and from what I have gleaned of Thailand as an inter fan, it still is.
And then for the last straw of Ongsa not seeing Sun being not coming out, when Ongsa wanted Sun to still go travel abroad and live her dreams, felt like the wrong argument to make.
I don’t know, separate from the rest of the build up, episode 11 was really good and well acted and the characters felt well rounded and…I just wish they’d gotten the story-beats/character development right to make the fight and resolution in episode 11 feel accurate.

Ongsa, holding a rock: Sun just gave this to me and said "I feel like you deserve the moon but all I can give you is a rock".
Charoen: If you don't marry her, I will.

I'm a tad late to the Absolute Zero party, but before I start screaming about how good episode 1 was, a little background:
I've not watched a single show directed by New Siwaj. I've watched one (1) show written by him -- Double Savage, and if I never think about that show ever again, it will still be too soon. I have zero minimal New Siwaj baggage and will therefore be the control subject of the Absolute Zero watch experience.
Now that that's out of the way, Y'ALL. THIS EPISODE. WAS SO GOOD. I LOVE sad stories that make me feel like my heart is being punched out of my chest, and this show is already so goddamn sad. Suansoon's parents have been dead for SIX years, and he's lonely and grieving and depressed, and @twig-tea made the incredible observation that he also seems stuck in time, unable to move on from his loss. He meets Ongsa in an adorable movie theatre meet-cute that spoke so deeply to my sucker-for-classic-romance-tropes heart.
Tumblr media
And it seems like Ongsa might already be aware of the time loop shenanigans, from him pursuing Suansoon so quickly -- "I wished Suansoon to be my boyfriend", to the unexplained tears he shed after watching Suansoon just smile and enjoy his company (and an icecream, yum!). Which adds to the intrigue, and to the overall melancholia of the show -- Ongsa wanting a relationship with Suansoon, just being present in Soon's life and making memories, even though he (potentially) knows in advance that it's gonna end in tragedy is some Arrival levels of sadness I was not expecting.
And most importantly, it's not all grey and gloom. The overall tone of the episode was definitely melancholic, yet the lighter moments of laughter, domesticity (cc @troubled-mind), and just.. contentment that Soon experiences in Ongsa's presence did not feel out of place. It was seamless and flowed well with the undercurrent of sorrow. And when I shared this with @bengiyo, he said, and I quote "Exactly, that's why I knew (the show) was gonna fuck us up". And he is absolutely correct. And I cannot wait to go fetal on the floor and just sob over these characters when the show finally decides to ruin us.
Tumblr media
P.S: There are two sad gay shows currently on air (I Feel You Linger In The Air, my beloved) involving 1. time shenanigans and 2. smoking hot men that @lurkingshan, @waitmyturtles and I can't stop ogling (though @waitmyturtles is currently alone in the "simping for Pastry Nat" camp) which is all a long-winded way of saying that we're having the time of our goddamn lives!

ABSOLUTE ZERO WAS ABSOLUTELY CHARMING
Tumblr media
This time-travel/romance is intricate, sometimes confusing, a bit problematic, at times, but very well-done.
In the long run, I enjoyed it.

23.5 ep 1 initial reaction!!!
Been waiting for this one!!!! I’m so excited!!! I love consuming queer media because I’m a lesbian. But there is very sapphic content that I have really enjoyed. Too often it’s unrealistic fetishized toxic red flag material. While high school slice of life isn’t my favorite genre I’m ready for this!! I’m very happy with ep 1 very relatable interesting stylized characters.
Let’s get into the photo review!!!! I didn’t take a ton so don’t expect this too get too wordy
Tumblr media
I like how they play with anonymity getting to know someone without fully seeing them or the situation. Starting off scene one. I find it interesting that Sun is always moving to Ongsa it’s very sweet. She’s the one who gets up seeks Ongsa again and again.
Tumblr media
Are you a true loser if you haven’t had a mental breakdown in the toilet? 😭 recently I had a panic attack made it to the restroom to hide the effects then accidentally left my BTS Wings tour hat in there. Panic fog is real. But been doing it since high school. Ongsa needs to perfect the quiet melt down lmao.
Tumblr media
Sun is so precious. I guess it’s because the show is from Ongsa’s POV but I’m stunned and in love too. She’s really trying her best to be a good person. She finds Ongsa magnetic. It’s not overstated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gahhh Ongsa’s nerd happiness is so cute. She must be protected at all costs she can do nothing wrong. Just want to boop her and Latte’s nose.
Tumblr media
Awwww Aylin’s advice and defense mechanism is very sweet her looks are Iconic. She says Just be yourself. But then she’s looking for aliens because her classmates says she is one. 😭 painful. But she owns it. I’m jealous.
Tumblr media
Big sister squad assemble. The filming thing does make me feel old. I’m sure this is how high schools are these days. I mean people bullied using social media when I was in high school but it wasn’t yet invasive filming. But!! Bullying feels the same. Impersonal. For personal gain.
Also a little confused as to why Ongsa lived in Phuket while her sister was going to school here.
Tumblr media
I adore how Sun is falling in love with Ongsa slowly by enjoying her personality and humor. Just as the thing Ongsa loves about Sun is how positive and caring she is. Although Ongsa does already find Sun B E A U T I F U L. Can’t blame her. But Sun intelligently connecting to Ongsa is finding a path to who she really is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which makes the texting scenes so beautiful. Sun is in Ongsa’s world. I adore the other worldness they are together seeing who they really are. Two beautiful souls trying to connect.
