At the moment I woke up on that stretcher, I knew that I needed to make everyone believe that they won....that they succeeded to put an control over me. I wasn't playing Bell anymore but now, I was playing myself....the Yirina Grigoriev that is trying to find more about what happened to her in an different way than she really did. But like 'Bell' said in my dream, I have only more than day to find an plan....an long day that I have to act like if I wasn't aware of what is going to happen to me....also meaning to relive that relationship with Freya....
After that moment in the shower, she allowed me to take an real shower without her and that was really good to be honest, feeling the water on my skin after days of captivity but when she proposed to me to have some new clothes to change the one I was wearing for days, I refused because I was preferring better that attire I was wearing than using one of the Perseus's uniform, I can't really see myself back in them. When I was done with showering and debating about my clothes, the day was now really starting for me.
First thing we have done was to go eat something in private outside as it was already noon, finally discovering the sun for real and the place I & Park were kept : in an military air base but I couldn't recognize any of the flags that was at some places of the base. After an few minutes of wandering around the base, Freya found an spot that was at hidden sight near an grilled fence with an forest near by. We sat once arrived to eat the meals we took and deep in me, I knew that this liberty wasn't going to last as long I'm staying in that base.
"You liked it ?" Freya asked me after I was able to finish the meal I took, all time wondering if it wasn't drugged but it was not the case apparently.
"Yeah, it was good." I replied with an smile, putting the bowl near me & having crossed my legs to sit before looking all around as I was still wondering where I was. "Where are we, exactly ?" I demanded directly to her.
"We're at north of Verdansk, using an Kastovian Air Base for our operations." She revealed to me, making me realize that me & Park were kept not so far from the CIA's eyes.
"Did I go here before ?" I said, hoping to know more about myself from her.
"Well, no, we didn't go there during the past." She told me, her left arm on her left kneecap, looking at me with an grin. "But I was sometimes summoned here alone." She added, scratching the back of her head with her other hand.
"Yeah, I knew that this place wasn't familiar." I muttered, looking around.
"Can you tell me if you had anything coming back this night ?" She commanded, her voice sounding as an will to know and I knew that I had to lie, trying to find any memory I could think about.
"Yeah, I had." I lied to her, having found an memory to tell her. "It was me....and you....you & some Perseus soldier saved me from death, I was wounded to my knees, my shoulders & my arms before getting back into an helicopter." I fully answered, saying about that old memory I had two months ago back into the old safehouse.
"Oh, I see." Freya chuckled, her right hand holding her head below her chin. "This was in Afghanistan in 1980...an few days before you proposed to me." She confirmed, making the link with the memory of my proposal.
"And I had another one too." I exclaimed, getting her attention, knowing that maybe another memory could help me to know more. "It was....well...it was about the NIS." I whispered, looking at her with sad eyes. "I was like in an rage and I killed NIS agents because they hurt you."
"You remembered that ?" She mumbled, an bit disturbing knowing about that slaughter I did for her in 1976 against the NIS.....an act I can't forget because I was an monster....something I can't be....I sadly nodded to her.
"I was an monster, something I'm not." I affirmed to her, looking away in sadness, feeling true in my words, not acting. "I wished that I wasn't able to relive that." I put my head in my hands as I could feel her hand behind my shoulder.
"No, it's helping you to know more about yourself." She admitted, true to her objectives towards me....'helping me'. "Those memories proved that we're on the good way."
"Maybe but that loss of memories....how did it happen ?" I demanded, knowing well that I will have an lie from her but instead, I didn't have any answers from her for 2 minutes, still having her hand behind me.
"You don't need to know how it happened, Yirina." She proclaimed, moving her arm behind my shoulder, sitting very close to me.
"Yeah, the most important is that I woke up." I stuttered, breaking an little laugh from her despite the not funny situation and I was obliged to reciprocate for that. "What is it ?" I questioned her when she got out of one of her pockets, an pair...of sunglasses..
"Oh, that ?" She showcased the sunglasses, realizing that it was Adler's ones....the ones he was always wearing "Got it from an CIA agent called Russell Adler." She replied, spreading the legs of the sunglasses, seeing on her face an sign of discomfort about them...she must be thinking about he has done to me.
"They're looking good." I complimented, looking at them before she handed them to me.
"Put them on." She ordered in an soft voice, putting the sunglasses in my hand and I was feeling not good to put Adler's sunglasses on me until I resigned to do so.
"How do I look ?" I asked, worried after I put them one....why did I do this ?....
"You look very...sexy." She confessed with an big smile, sending chills in my body as having those sunglasses on me was weird. "No, you can keep them, they're yours." She told me as I was giving back the glasses to her but she refused, insisting to give me them.
"If you want..." I raised my shoulders, putting the sunglasses in the pockets of my pants before I look in the horizon, the afternoon arriving. "About the tests, how are they going to happen ?" I asked after an few seconds of silence.
"Don't worry, it's only test to help you recover your memories at an greater rate." She responded, putting her left hand above my heart, feeling it on the scars that his asshole did back in the New Orleans. "I didn't know that you had an scar over there." She said, passing her fingers along the scars
"I don't even know how I got them." I lied as it was the only solution for me. "But like you all said, it's for helping me." I muttered, joining my hands together on my lap. "What is Perseus thinking about all of this ?"
"Maybe you can ask him directly ?" She suggested, making me an laugh off my mouth.
"Because he's here ?" I scoffed, still laughing & nervous before seeing her smile "Wait, is he here ?" I repeated, seeing that face & stopping the laugh by more nervousity.
"Of course, he is !" She declared, removing her hands off me to get up, offering her hand. "It's an good idea you had, let's go see him." She proposed.
"Uhm....okay, if you want." I chuckled, giving my approval to her as she took my hand to get me up.
Why did I say that I wanted to go see Perseus that was on that very base at this moment ? This was getting more nervous and unstable in the inside to be honest. The man that was the first to fuck up my life....was here. Freya helped me got up before we start to walk towards the direction of the building, feeling the stress climbing inside of me, along with the nervosity and the unstability. I had to act well....like if I wasn't aware of anything.....
When we entered back into the main building her quarters and so, Perseus too, all the looks of every Perseus soldiers was on us but mostly on me. Everyone must be thinking about seeing an ghost here, the 'Winter Soldier' like they want to think, that stupid nickname they gave me....that Perseus gave me. Once we arrived in front of the office that Perseus was, seeing his name on it, an deep breath was necessary.
"You're ready ?" Freya asked me as she was holding the door handle in her hand, awaiting for an answer from me.
"I think I'm good." I responded, passing my hand through my forehead as my answer make her open the door, discovering Perseus sit at his desk....the same person I saw back in those memories, still wearing that same uniform like before.
"Ah....Yirina, it's an pleasure." He exclaimed, delighted to see me after all of those years while I wasn't as I was slowly entering his office. "You can go, Freya, I want an personal discussion with her." He ordered before the door closed behind me, all alone now with the monster.
"Perseus." I whispered in an low voice, making an simple nodding to him.
"You can sit, of course." He pointed to me one of the chair in front of me and I complied, not removing my eyes of him as he made an little cough, covering his mouth with his hands.
"Freya told me that you were here so I came." I told him with an normal voice.
"I know, you did an good choice, my Yirina." He affirmed, keeping an hand near his mouth, feeling disturbed to have an talk with him like that....and to be called 'my Yirina' by him...."You don't know how much I'm happy to see you here." He added with an great smile, again with an cough.
"Me too." I lied to him, accompanied by an grin, joining my hands together on my lap. "So...I have lost my memories, it seems." I started, thinking that would be the subject of our conversation.
"Yes, my child." He said, troubling me by his words. "I was told that you had an difficult moment and it happened to make you lose your memories, I'm sorry." He apologized to me as it was surely meaning an lot of things
"I had an lot of difficults moments in my life." I exclaimed with an low tone, saying the truth about myself. "I can remember things but not everything."I continued about the recovering memories to him.
"And that's an good thing, you need to remember your life and make the good choices for me and you." He admitted, feeling the lie between his words and knowing that the 'good choices' were only for him and the Collective. "We're only making sure that your life is doing better." He then coughed again but more louder than before.
"Do you have something in you ?" I demanded, faking to be curious towards him.
"No, I'm fine, don't worry." He affirmed in an clear voice before he start coughing again more until blood come out of his mouth in an slow load on his hand, almost making me jump from my chair.
"You're sure you're okay ?" I insisted, seeing the blood on his hand and I didn't know how to feel about him....been worried or faking it ?....maybe both.
"Don't worry, I've got something." He told me, pressing his finger on an little device on his desk. "Dedov, can you come at my office quick ?" He demanded while pressing the button before he removed his finger off it.
"Who is this Dedov ?" I questioned him after an few moments after his demand, faking to not know Dedov at all.
"He's my most loyal man in the Collective, he's helping me to get better." He responded, trying to catch his breath, sweating all over his face and holding his chest until then, the door was opened, revealing Dedov with an medikit.
"I did as quick as I could." Dedov started, quickly closing the door behind him before moving to get to Perseus.
"Thank you, Dedov for coming quickly." Perseus breathed as Dedov was taking out an stethoscope from his medikit.
"What does he have ?" I asked to Dedov as he was starting to measure the heartbeat from Perseus that has removed an part of his shirt.
"I'm sick, Yirina....I'm dying." Perseus was the one to reply to me as Dedov was concentrated on his task, sending an feeling of shock and weirdly, an bit of joice in me.
"What ?" I chuckled, slowly getting up from my seat, faking to be fully shocked.
"Perseus has an lung cancer if you want to know." Dedov said in an worried voice to me as he was finished with listening to Perseus's heartbeats before taking an syringe off his medikit. "I'm giving you this and you're going to take some rest, sir." He continued back into an normal voice, injecting an needle to Perseus right arm.
"It can be healed, right ?" I speculated but Perseus shook his head.
"No but I'm getting an chance to...to live until the end of the year." He answered, his voice getting slower, still trying to catch his breath. "Listen, you can go now, I'm going to go to rest like Dedov told me." He ordered before turning around to gesture the same thing for Dedov.
"Okay, I'm leaving you." I muttered before I started to walk out of the room, taking an deep breath when I stepped out of his office but at my surprise, Freya wasn't here at all and because of that, I had to wait for her to return and an few seconds I left, Dedov came out, closing the door behind him. "So...you're Dedov, right ?" I asked in an not sure tone.
"Yes, why're you asking ?" He replied before asking me back another question.
"Because I'm curious, that's all." I raised my shoulders to him as he was seeming an bit curious about me...about how I know his name but I could see that he couldn't ask the question because of the situation. "Can you talk about you ?" I demanded, taking the seriousness of my curiosity at the max level.
"Well, I was born in 1962 if you want to know the full details." He started, hesitating to talk about it with me before he got next to me, crossing his arms. "I lived an normal life with my family until I lost them, one by one." He added in an low voice, looking down as I was saddened to talk with him. "My father, my mother and then....my Zeze." He snorted, sad to talk about Zasha. "The CIA killed them like they were nothing."
"And that's why you joined Perseus ?" He nodded to me, biting his lips.
"It was the only choice for me : the CIA killed them, Perseus showed me the truth." He insisted on that detail, realizing the full extend on the supposed brainwashing he suffered. "They were like my only way of living but Perseus make me live on with an new goal." He continued, making me snort away, sad.
"Don't you feel that there's maybe something wrong with everything around you ?" I questined him, crossing my arms too & leaning against the wall as he was looking at me with curiosity. "Don't answer if you don't want to." I told him with an little grin but still having this face on him.
"I don't know to be honest." He replied anyway, feeling in doubt about it before he got away from me. "Listen, you don't need to know about me as I don't want to know about you." He suggested, taking an harsh tone.
"Okay, okay." I breathed, making signs with him as I didn't want to confront him before I looked away. "Anyway, do you know where Freya could be ? She was awaiting for me here ?"
"I saw her leaving with Sonya to the parking but Sonya wasn't looking happy." He answered, showing me the way behind me by the way I came here before he start to walk away from me and I was ready to go join them quickly before I got an idea....
"Dedov....do you remember Beans ?" I demanded in an clear voice, making him stop to walk away, peaking to look at me.
"What ?" He muttered, troubled.
"Beans, your cat !" I repeated again to him as an way to maybe broke the brainwashing off him. "She was an cat you find near your old apartment complex, you took her with you and Zasha agreed to." I added, feeling an tear on my face to talk about it in front of Perseus office before I know that I couldn't talk no more about it. "Anyway, goodbye Dedov, come back." I saluted him before I start to leave, him still in that position.
I think that it was an way to break the brainwashing from him but I couldn't know if it was going to really work for me & him. Dedov didn't deserve all of this and seeing him in an Perseus military clothes was breaking me....Perseus was really an monster to do this....an dying monster. I then focused back on finding Freya again that was now with Sonya but like Dedov told me, the latter wasn't really happy about something.
Walking alone in this building to join the two in that parking was weird because the soldiers weren't doing anything to stop me at all....to give me an feeling of freedom...an strange freedom to be honest. When I managed to go out of the building and join the only parking near the building, I could see Sonya & Freya between 2 civilians cars but their discussion weren't really good to hear.
"You know that it's all fucked up and you're doing this anyway !" Sonya exclaimed in an loud voice as the two didn't see me arrive, making me watching the scene from afar. "How much are you sick to do that to her ?"
"I'm not sick, Sonya, I'm fine & well." Freya told them, almost angry in her voice. "I'm doing what's right !" She affirmed.
"What's right ?" Sonya repeated, approaching Freya face to face, raising their eyebrow. "Brainwashing her after what happened to her ?"
"Yes, if I want her back...."
"She doesn't...love you anymore, you understand ?" Sonya cut her straight, speaking up against Freya's choices with me. "She told me everything about you two but you're still acting like if nothing happened between us."
"I don't give an fuck about what you think to be honest !" Freya cursed to them in an angry voice, seeing her poke them on their shoulder. "She's coming back to me, end of the story." She admitted.
"She's right, you're not the Freya Helvig I know." Sonya expressed before suddenly, I could see Freya holding firmly their left wrist, hurting me.
"Don't even think of saying that I have changed or putting your hands on me, you understand ?" She threatened them before I decided to step inside the conversation.
"Freya !" I started, stepping in to save Sonya from her. "Why are you hurting them ?" I demanded, worried.
"Oh...just nothing, Yiri." She replied in an normal weird voice to me, releasing Sonya's wrist. "Here's something I wanted to give you back." She put her hands on her pocket, revealing....my own mother's ring in her hands, handing it to me. "Take it, it's yours."
"Thanks." I whispered, taking the ring in my own hands....feeling it and it was all weird to hold it again after those years, after she showed it in that american mall.
"Good, let's go talk further away." She suggested, taking an last look on Sonya that was looking so bad and sad and me too for them. "They don't understand that I'm helping you." She stated, turning around to look at me with an smile...an smile that I couldn't replicate on my face because of Sonya's presence, feeling so bad...
"I'm making sure that you're back at my side for good !"

Iubriea mea? {Varian gets up from the bed and pours water from the pitcher into the basin on the dresser} Zapada: Another nightmare? {Varian splashes his face} Varian: Probably for the best...it’s almost dawn and I have to be at the castle… {Zapada gets up and walks over to him; she takes his hand and he looks at her} Zapada: You have barely been sleeping…and it is falling rain outside. Varian: It doesn’t matter...what matters is finding that cult and destroying them. Zapada: Varian how do you expect to do that when you look like death himself? Varian: Zapada, please… Zapada: No! You will catch your demise! Varian: and they are causing people’s demise! They took my friend, destroyed an entire kingdom, killed Estelle, my dad, my son-! Estelle: Who was no less of a son to me than the one within me, Varian!...but very well. If you want to perish before you’ve even obtained victory...then be my guest. {She walks over to the bed and lies down} Varian:...fine. {He leaves and shuts the door; Zapada’s eyes water and she quietly cries into her pillow; Cut to the morning in the Dark Kingdom; Isaiah rolls over in his cave with a groan} Isaiah:...ugh...I can’t wait to have my bed back… {A distant scream rings out in the forest and Isaiah jolts up} Girls voice: NOT AGAIN! I can't argue with that… {she cuts through the rope and starts falling} Girl: AH! {Isaiah lunges and catches her} Girl: Hmph! Get off me! Stinky boy! {She gets up and fixes the bandana on her head} Isaiah: Soooo...i’m Isaiah! {He puts out a hand and she stares at it for a moment before going to pick up her bag} Isaiah:....ookkkaaayy… Girl:...Verbena. Isaiah: huh? Verbena: my name is Verbena. Isaiah: O-oh! Okay! Cool! So what’cha doing out here? Verbena: Foraging. Isaiah: oh..cool..yup…… {She stares at him and then groans} Verbena: ...if your coming along, keep up and shut up. Isaiah: R-right! Got it! {he runs up and stays next to her} Isaiah:...so what are we foraging? Verbena: ugghh… {Cut to Catalina walking down into the dungeon; she looks disturbed and angry; she stands in front of Noremoths cell}Catalina: I’d like to talk to the prisoner in this cell, please. Pete:...you’re sure? Catalina: just open the door… {Pete goes over and unlocks the door; Catalina walks in and bares her fangs in a growl; Noremoth looks up} Noremoth: Catalina! {She slams the door closed} Noremoth: Cat I can explain! Catalina: Oh I’m all ears! But lets review! You lied to me, you’re part of a dangerous cult, you killed people, and you attacked Corona multiple times. Did I miss anything? Noremoth: nope that’s uh...pretty much it. {She throws her hands up and walks to the other side of the cell} Noremoth: ...I never meant to hurt you. Catalina: No you only meant to lie, kill, and steal. Noremoth: Technically I never lied- {She gets close to his face, baring her fangs and eyes turning red} Noremoth: BAH! Okay! Okay! Relax! Catalina: You don’t get it do you!? Noremoth: What!? Catalina: I trusted you! I..I liked you! And you betrayed me! You hurt my friends! You hurt my kingdom! And I hate you for it! I honestly wish I had the strength to end you I would gladly tear your throat out for my friend and family! Noremoth: Cat… {Catalina shakes her head and runs out of the cell and slams the door} Noremoth:...smooth ol’ boy...smooth. {Fade to the cult HQ; Larkspur sits in her room with messy hair and a disheveled appearance; she takes a knife and throws it at a Coronian flag she has on her wall; a knock sounds at her door} Vergus: Mistress? {She tumbles out of her bed and fixes herself} Larkspur: C-Come in! Vergus: Mistress,  we were badly battered from the recent battle.  we have many wounded and we're running out of supplies. Larkspur:  and our vessel? Vergus:   despite the doubtless psychological harm that she suffered she appears to be in good health. Larkspur: That is all you needed to say I really don't give a rat's arse about her “psychological harm” Vergus:  regardless mistress, we must obtain more supplies.  the dark kingdom has a trade port. it's about two days’ time from our hideaway. Larkspur:  then what are you still doing here? get together a small group of those that aren't wounded and go obtain things to replenish our supply. Vergus:  well there's one more thing mistress. Larkspur: of course there is. Vergus:  we wish to know what you plan to do now. Noremoth has been captured.  and he didn't exactly leave on the best terms.  he's a serious threat and could easily be giving away information.  we wish to know your orders. Larkspur: hmm.. well it is true he could be a threat.  but we can't just go barreling into Corona.  as you said before we're all wounded and need time to heal,  on top of everything we're low on supplies.  I suppose we should plan for a battle then. if we don't attack they surely will attack us. looks like this little war is at a standstill. Vergus: Mistress? Larkspur:  take a small group of the members that aren't wounded.  go to the dark Kingdom, obtain the supplies that we require,  but also try and recruit some new members. look for the lowlifes of the town.  people who are desperate, weak of heart, there should be plenty.  if we're going to fight a battle in the future we should have more able-bodied men and women. Vergus: Yes mistress. Larkspur:  and Vergus? don't disappoint me. {cut to Verbena walking into the kingdom gates with Isaiah in tow} Verbena: So let me get this straight.  you got separated from your family and you're here for at least another week until you can find enough reserves for a four day trip on foot back to Corona. Isaiah: That pretty much sums it up yeah… Verbena:  well you're doomed. Isaiah: Wait wha-Verbena! Benny! May I call you Benny? Verbena: no. Isaiah: Benny,  what do you mean I'm doomed!? Verbena:  look I've been surviving on these streets by myself for 2 years.  I have survived starvation, infection, and almost dying of exposure.  I’m a big girl and I can tell just by looking at you, you wouldn't last a day. Isaiah: oh ho really? How so? Verbena:  do I really have to explain?  from what you've been telling me you relied too heavily on the grown-ups around you. you can't do that when you're living on the streets. a street kid has seen no lesser than a rat.  you have to do what you can to survive which means doing things that you aren’t gonna be happy with. Isaiah:  how old are you? Six?  who hurt you? Verbena: actually I'm this many! *holds up fingers*  7 almost 8. my parents died in a house fire. I’ve been living on my own ever since. Isaiah:  why don't you just go to an orphanage? {She grabs his face and pulls him down} Verbena: I WILL NEVER EVER GO TO THAT MEAN PLACE! Isaiah: Okay! Okay! Geez! {she lets go and starts walking before they both hear a grumble; she turns and looks at him} Verbena:  are you kidding me? when was the last time you ate? Isaiah:... on the ship. Verbena: ugghh.. helpless utterly helpless.  come on stinky let's find you something to eat. {Fade to Lily looking out a window from the seat in her room; she sniffles and wipes a tear before a knock is at her door} Cyrus: Lily? It’s me!...it’s all of us really. {Eddard opens the door} Cyrus: Wow rude...she didn’t express we could come in! Eddard: Lily? You okay sis?{Her sister Rosie sits by her} Rosie: Your handmaiden said that you've been turning away all sorts of food even your favorite. Cyrus:  you love lemon meringue pie. Lily:  I just don't feel it… {They all look at each other concerned; Eugene walks in} Eugene: don’t worry guys...I got this. All: Dad! Eugene:  if you guys could give us the room I think your sister needs some one-on-one with her awesome dad. Cyrus: Yes father. {all but Eddard walk out of the room before Cyrus goes back and pulls him out} Eugene: Lily?...sweetheart you can’t keep doing this.  I know it hurts but- Lily:  no you don't know! You can’t possibly know! {Eugene jumps} Lily:  I should have gone with you. Eugene:  no.  that would have been ten times worse.  you could have been killed then. Lily:  maybe then I could have stopped them from killing my best for him. Eugene: there was nothing we could have done.  Lily none of this was your fault. none of this was anyone's fault. it wasn't supposed to happen this way. Lily: I liked ‘saiah… Eugene: I know princess… Lily: no I...I like liked him… Eugene: wait, you...OH...ohh… {Lily sobs} Eugene: oh princess c’mere… {Eugene picks her up and holds her in his lap; she snuggles into his chest} Eugene: It’s gonna be okay..it may not seem like it now but..it..it will...it will {he holds her tighter as it zooms out on them; cut to Varian tiredly exiting his Lab in the castle; he walks a bit before stopping and look up at the giant door he’s passing by; Zapada’s words from that morning ring in his head; he sets his stuff down} Varian:...Herz Der Sonne’s journal. {He looks around before he places a hand on the door} Varian:...I must be outta my damn mind. {Varian opens the door to the room and walks up to the journal; he sighs} Varian: I can’t believe I’m doing this… {He opens the book and flips through it; he stops at a page and stares at it before running his hand over it: he sighs} Varian: ….I really screwed up, huh?  failed to protect you...failed to protect our son.  Seems just yesterday we were here. {He smiles sadly and scoffs} Varian:  I really was still a stupid kid wasn't I?   thinking all of our problems would be solved because we signed a stupid book. {Fade to a flashback of him and Estelle sneaking in the room; Estelle runs over to the journal as Varian closes the door} Estelle:  has anyone seen us? Varian: not from what I've seen. Estelle: Good.  in my opinion, this has to be a private affair. Varian: indeed your grace. Estelle:  Ew don’t call me that. {they chuckle and Estelle opens the journal to a blank page; She then takes a quill but hesitates} Varian: …Estelle? You okay? Estelle: Oh! Y-Yes! Right as rain! Varian: we don't have to do this if you don't want to... I'm not going to hold it against you. Estelle:  no!  I want to do this. the last journal existed for hundreds of years.  I don't want there to only be a record of me being tied to that... Pompous duke!. Varian: won’t people find out? Estelle:  nobody goes back and looks at the other Pages until it's been decades maybe more.  please...Varian. I want to share a page with the man I love. The man I choose. {Varian looks stunned for a second but then his face softens; He takes a Quill and both sign the journal; Estelle kisses him; they stay in each other’s arms} Estelle: Well...it seems to be official now. Varian: yeah… Estelle: for better or for worse… Varian: No matter what happens… {Fade out and cut to the page with their names on it; a tear drips on the page; Varian sniffles and wipes his eyes before staring blankly at the page; with a cold stare he tears the page from the journal and stuffs it in his vest; cut to him walking out of the room and stopping to lean against the wall} Rapunzel: Varian! There you are! We’ve all been looking for you! Varian: for me? How can I help Rapunzel? Rapunzel:....you’re...not gonna like it. {Lance walks forward with a drink bottle} Varian: What is this? Eugene: a drink to share with Noremoth. Varian: ...Excuse me!? Rapunzel: Now Varian, please… Varian: No Hold up! You want me to share a drink with the man that murdered my family!? Eugene: Varian I know your upset with him but- Varian: Upset? you think i’m just UPSET with that man!? i’m 1000x more than that, Eugene! Rapunzel: okay enough! Both of you! Varian, We need information from him. from what we've heard him say he seems to be innocent of most of the crimes here. Varian: what!? Rapunzel:  from what he's been telling us it was mostly Larkspur giving the orders.  Quirin's death was an accident according to him,  he didn't know that Estelle was going to be the first target,  and Isaiah fell off the cliffs when Noremoth wasn't anywhere near him. It's the only information he was willing to give us. Lance:  he just keeps asking us to kill him and be done with it. Keira: and why don't we!?  okay so my Quirin's death was an accident but that means he still tried to kill Varian! And look at Catalina! Rapunzel:  I promise you, there will be consequences for him but right now his information is invaluable. If we're going to avenge Isaiah and anyone else that was killed at the cults hand we’re going to need his help. {Varian eyes the bottle before walking off with it} Catalina: Varian just...just don’t hurt him too bad… Varian:...no promises. {Cut to Isaiah in the marketplace of the dark kingdom} Isaiah: geez... bread here is so expensive. Verbena:  that's cause wheat doesn't do well here so we have to im-..im… Isaiah: ...Import? Verbena: yeah! import it from other kingdoms. Isaiah: seriously how are you alive? Verbena: I guess i’m just smarter than you. Isaiah: you little- Verbena: shh!...look! Isaiah: what? {She points to a small bag of moldy bread} Verbena: It's all we got. Isaiah: how are we going to the new convince him to sell us- {Verbena rushes in and grabs it before taking off} Baker: STOP! THIEF! Isaiah: BENNY!? Verbena: Lets go! {they both run through the street weaving around people as the baker chases them; At one point Benny trips and picks up as much of the bread as she can; The baker goes to grab her but Isaiah picks up an apple from a cart and throws it, hitting him in the nose} Baker: Filthy street pest! You broke my nose! Augh! {Isaiah runs up to her and pulls her into the alleyway} Verbena:...well...that could’ve gone better. Isaiah: Yeah i’ll say! What in the hell was any of that!? Verbena: I was getting us food! Isaiah: By stealing it!? I have coin! I could have bought food! Verbena: if I knew that I would have let you but like I said before, You gots to do things you don't like! Isaiah: Screw that!  I've never once even considered stealing food! if need be I would have gone to the forest and searched for food or dug in a trash can! I never would have stolen from anyone! now look what I did I broke some poor man's nose for you! Verbena:  and because of that we have dinner.  when it comes to survival sometimes you gotta be bad. Isaiah:  I would rather risk everything than hurt someone again! Verbena:...Again? {Isaiah jumps at his own words and gently touches his scar; Verbena sighs and hands him a stale roll of bread from the bag} Verbena:  ...here... just eat it. {Isaiah swipes the roll and takes a bite; Verbena grabs her own roll and picks the mold off before eating; she hears sniffles and looks over to see Isaiah wiping his eyes as he eats} Verbena:...why me? {She walks over and plops down by him eating her bread; Isaiah looks over to her leaning on him} Verbena:...sorry... {he smiles and leans on her as they eat; cut to Varian outside Noremoths door at night; Pete unlocks it for him and he walks in} Noremoth: Well.. this is a surprise.
Varian: be quiet… Noremoth:  did you really just walk in here just to tell me to shut up? Varian: and if I did? Noremoth: well not like I can do anything except call you a massive jerk. Varian: you see there's a lot of irony in the idea of you calling me a massive jerk. Noremoth:  whatever... what's that? Varian:  this? {he holds up the bottle} Noremoth:  no the Dancing Cockatoo on your head.. yes the bottle! Varian: thought you could use a drink. I can't imagine the water down here is very sanitary. Noremoth: What is it? Varian: I have absolutely no clue but all I know is it doesn't smell very good. Noremoth: then it is my kind of speed. {Varian pours two glasses and goes to hand him one} Varian: oh...wait… Noremoth: Yes Varian... I'll just levitate the glass with my unicorn powers. Varian: oh shut up… {He goes to unlock his wrists; Noremoth rubs them; Varian hands him the drink and he sits down on the ground with him} Varian: well this brings back memories. Noremoth:  drinking in a Cell brings back memories? Varian: the cell itself dingus...  I forget...it's been what.. 18..19 years… Noremoth:  yes I've heard your story.  I believe we only met after the death of Zhan tiri.  you went traveling right? Varian:  I was gifted the title of Royal engineer. but I needed a break from Corona after everything that happened.  I decided to go on a scientific Expedition.  I wanted to learn how the Sun Drop , the Moonstone, and the black rocks had affected other kingdoms.  I also wanted to learn more about me and see if there was a more scientific explanation for all of it. perhaps a new branch of science that we hadn't even discovered yet. Noremoth:  and then we came in and screwed everything up didn't we? {Noremoth smirks and sips his drink} Varian:  you can say that again. instead of a scientific expedition, I found myself trying to thwart you guys every time I entered a new kingdom. Noremoth:  we were very diverse with our recruiting.  Misfits of all the Seven Kingdoms joining together to create a new world order with help from the power of Zhan tiri and a vessel hosting the magic for us. Varian:... why Cassandra? Noremoth:... that was larkspur's doing. I grew up in Corona. I was here for that great battle. Varian:...What? I didn't see you at all. Noremoth: I don't know where I was born but I do know I grew up in an orphanage not too far from Corona.  orphanages paint such a pretty picture.  oh we care for orphaned so therefore we're Saints! puh!... I left the orphanage when I was 12 I couldn't stand it anymore and then I was a street child in Corona.  therefore I was useless.  I was here for everything. Varian: Everything? Noremoth:  yes... everything. how did you make your raccoon that size? Varian:  Okay moving on!  you never answered my question. Noremoth:  right... I told her about how Cassandra was the wielder of the Moonstone and how I saw her come into Corona many times.  I even told her about the time she practically destroyed the whole Kingdom with black rocks.  Larkspur insisted that that was who we had to have his The Vessel. I don't know why but I think it's because she thought she can handle it. Varian:  so why did you join the cult? Noremoth: I left Corona once I was old enough same as you. I met t Larkspur and she told me her ideas. I was sick of being treated differently for things that I couldn't control.  people assuming that I was filthy, uneducated, and just overall waste of space because I was an orphan Street child.  I want to spare future generations of that that's why I joined.  I've always had a code. never hurt women or children. Varian: BUT- Noremoth:  I was never near your son when he fell and that wasn't supposed to happen.  I didn't know that Cassandra’s first kill was Isaiah’s mother.  as for your father... I want you to know that I gave Larkspur hell for that.  I'm sorry. I tried to do good things for the world by joining this cult but it seems that I've only brought misery. I’m...truly sorry about that. {Noremoth picks up his cup; Varian watches him with a despondent look} Noremoth: ...Salut
Varian:......Salut. {They clink glasses and both take a sip before Varian coughs and sputters and Noremoth laughs; fade to Isaiah leaning against a barrel in the alley asleep; Verbena walks over and kicks him} Isaiah: OW! Hey, what the- Verbena: Sh! C’mon! I gots to show you something! {Isaiah rolls his eyes and follows; she leads him out into the dark barren street} Isaiah: ...Okay, I'm out here now what? Verbena:  any second now… {They stand for a minute or two; Isaiah goes to say something to her but then notices a glow; He looks up to see colours dancing in the sky} Isaiah: Whoa... aurora borealis… Verbena: what? Isaiah:  Aurora Borealis is also known as the Northern Lights I read about it in my books back home.  I didn't know the dark Kingdom had such a cool view of it. Verbena:  I overheard some grown-up say that the lights only started appearing after the black rocks disappeared. that was way before I was born. Isaiah: and how old do you think I am? that's before I was born to! Verbena:  you're old and stinky! {Isaiah smirks and tickles her; she squeals and giggles} Isaiah: Oh am I!? I’m old and stinky? Well, you’re tiny and spiteful! {she squeals and giggles; Isaiah smiles and looks up at the sky with a sad smile} Verbena: do you miss your family? {Isaiah turns to look at her} Verbena:  I miss mine too. I miss my mommy. Isaiah:...me too squirt...me too.

From Cosmetics to NASCAR, Calls for Racial Justice Are Spreading
Estée Lauder announced donating $1 million to support racial and social justice organizations in response to the George Floyd tragedy. But employees pinpointed Mr. Lauder’s political donations to President rump as being in conflict with the company’s stance on race, particularly since the president has tweeted conspiracy theories about injured protesters, and described demonstrators as “THUGS.” If you were Mr. Lauder would you increase your donation to social justice groups to match your donations to President Trump: (1) Yes, (2) No? Why? What are the ethics underlying your decision?
The reckonings have been swift and dizzying.
On Monday, it was the dictionary, with Merriam-Webster saying it was revising its entry on racism to illustrate the ways in which it “can be systemic.”
On Tuesday, the University of Washington removed the coach of its dance team after the only two black members of the group were cut. The two women were invited to return.
On Wednesday, after a black racecar driver called on NASCAR to ban the Confederate battle flag from its events, the organization did just that.
On Thursday, Nike joined a wave of American companies that have made Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in America, an official paid holiday, “to better commemorate and celebrate Black history and culture.”
And on Friday, ABC Entertainment named the franchise’s first black man to star in “The Bachelor” in the show’s 18-year history, acceding to longstanding demands from fans.
In just under three weeks since the killing of George Floyd set off widespread protests, what started as a renewed demand for police reform has now roiled seemingly every sphere of American life, prompting institutions and individuals around the country to confront enduring forms of racial discrimination.
Many black Americans have been inundated with testaments and queries from white friends about fighting racism. And anti-racist activists have watched with some amazement as powerful white leaders and corporations acknowledge concepts like “structural racism’’ and pledge to make sweeping changes in personal and institutional behavior.
But those who have been in the trenches for decades fighting racism in America wonder how lasting the soul searching will be.
The flood of corporate statements denouncing racism “feels like a series of mea culpas written by the press folks and run by the top black folks” inside each organization, said Dream Hampton, a writer and filmmaker. “Show us a picture of your C-suite, who is on your board. Then we can have a conversation about diversity, equity and inclusion.”
“Stop sending positive vibes,’’ begged Chad Sanders, a writer, in a recent New York Times Op-Ed, directing his white friends to instead help protect black protesters, donate to black politicians and funds fighting racial injustice, and urge others to do the same.
The protests have so far yielded some tangible changes in policing itself. On Friday, New York banned the use of chokeholds by law enforcement and repealed a law that kept police disciplinary records secret.
But their power is also cultural. A run on books about racism has reordered best-seller lists, driving titles like “How to Be an Antiracist’’ and “White Fragility’’ to the top. And language about American racial dynamics that was once the purview of academia and activism appears to have gone mainstream.
In a video released June 5 apologizing for the N.F.L.’s previous failure to support players who protested police violence, Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the league, condemned the “systematic oppression” of black people, a term used to convey that racism is embedded in the policies of public and private institutions. The Denver Board of Education, in voting to end its contract with the city police department for school resource officers, cited a desire to avoid the “perpetuation of the school-to-prison pipeline,” a reference to how school policies can lay the groundwork for the incarceration of young black Americans.
“One of the exhilarating things about this moment is that black people are articulating to the world that this isn’t just an issue of the state literally killing us, it’s also about psychic death,’’ said Jeremy O. Harris, a playwright whose “Slave Play” addresses the failure of white liberals to admit their complicity in America’s ongoing racial inequities.
He added, “It’s exhilarating because for the first time, in a macro sense, people are saying names and showing up and showing receipts.’’
Sensing a rare, and perhaps fleeting, opportunity to be heard, many black Americans are sharing painful stories on social media about racism and mistreatment in the workplace, accounts that some said they were too scared to disclose before. They are using hashtags like #BlackInTheIvory or #WeSeeYouWAT, referring to bias in academia and “White American Theater.”
The feeling of a dam breaking has drawn analogies to the fall and winter of 2017, when sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein triggered a deluge of disturbing accounts from women and provoked frank conversations in which friends, colleagues and neighbors confessed to one another: I’ve suffered in that manner as well. Or: I now realize I have wronged someone, and I’d like to do better.
Though racism is hardly a secret, “a huge awakening is just the awareness of people who don’t face the headwinds,” said Drew Dixon, a music producer, activist and subject of the documentary “On the Record,” about her decision to come forward with rape allegations against the music producer Russell Simmons, which he has denied. “Many people had no idea what women deal with every single day, and I think many non-black people had no idea what black people deal with every day.”
A shift in the making
While the outpouring may seem sudden, there have been signs that perceptions on race were already in flux.
Opinion polls over the last decade have shown a self-reported turn by Democrats toward a more sympathetic view of black Americans, with more attributing disparities in areas like income and education to discrimination rather than personal failure. By 2018, white liberals said they felt more positively about blacks, Latinos and Asians than they did about whites.
The reason for the shift is unclear — and those attitudes have so far not translated into desegregated schools or neighborhoods — but may help explain the cascade of responses to Mr. Floyd’s killing.
The outpouring is also related to the horrific nature of Mr. Floyd’s death — a white police officer kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes — captured in a stark video at a moment of rising national frustration with the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.
The protests still surging through the streets of America’s cities, said the civil rights movement scholar Aldon Morris, are “unprecedented in terms of the high levels of white participation in a movement targeting black oppression and grievances.”
Younger Americans are also much more racially diverse than earlier generations. They tend to have different views on race. And their imprint on society is only growing.
Brands trying to appeal to younger consumers have in recent years increasingly proclaimed their belief in equality and justice. Two years ago, Nike featured in a major ad campaign the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the national anthem to protest racism. The tagline for MAC, the cosmetics company, is “All Ages, All Races, All Genders.”
In the wake of the Floyd protests, everyone from Wall Street C.E.O.s and the sportswear giant Adidas to the fruit snack Gushers and a company that sells stun guns put out statements of support of diversity, flooding Instagram with vague messages.
These prompted cries of hypocrisy from those who said the companies don’t practice the values they’re espousing.
At several companies, what employees saw as an inadequate response to Mr. Floyd’s death seemed to serve as a catalyst for a long-simmering contention over questions of racial equity. At Adidas, dozens of employees stopped working to attend daily protests outside the company’s North American headquarters in Portland, Ore.
The tumult has been especially fraught at Estée Lauder, the beauty giant, stemming from the political donations of Ronald S. Lauder, a 76-year-old board member and a son of the company’s founders. He has also been a prominent supporter of President Trump.
On May 29, employees at Estée Lauder, like those in much of the rest of corporate America, began receiving emails from the company’s leadership addressing racial discrimination.
There was “considerable pain” in black communities, one missive noted. According to copies of the internal communications obtained by The New York Times, the company, whose vast portfolio includes Clinique, MAC, Bobbi Brown, La Mer and Aveda, encouraged employees to pause working on June 2 in honor of “Blackout Tuesday.”
At a video meeting on June 4 among an internal group called NOBLE, or Network of Black Leaders and Executives, company leaders said Estée Lauder was donating $1 million to support racial and social justice organizations. But employees pinpointed Mr. Lauder’s political donations to Mr. Trump as being in conflict with the company’s stance on race. The president has tweeted conspiracy theories about injured protesters, described demonstrators as “THUGS,” and praised most law enforcement officers as “great people.”
Employees left dissatisfied. Later that night, a petition appeared on Change.org.
The company’s donation did “not match, or exceed Ronald Lauder’s personal donations in support of state-sanctioned violence,” organizers of the petition, which has amassed more than 6,000 signatures, wrote. “Ronald Lauder’s involvement with the Estée Lauder Companies is damaging to our corporate values, our relationship with the Black community, our relationship with this company’s Black employees, and this company’s legacy.”
In his first public comment on the situation, Mr. Lauder told The Times in a statement Friday that he had spent decades “fighting anti-Semitism, hate and bigotry in all its forms in New York and around the world as president of the World Jewish Congress.”
“As a country, we must recommit ourselves to the fight against anti-Semitism and racism,” he said. “In this urgent moment of change, I am expanding the scope of my anti-Semitism campaign to include causes for racial justice, especially in the Black community, as well as other forms of dangerous ethnic and religious intolerance around the world.”
On Monday, Estée Lauder said it would donate $5 million in coming weeks to “support racial and social justice and to continue to support greater access to education,” and donate an additional $5 million over the following two years.
Other companies have also pledged money. On Thursday alone, PayPal, Apple and YouTube collectively pledged $730 million to racial justice and equity efforts.
Jobs on the line
As companies face restive employees, pressure has also grown to remove those who have made offensive statements. Others have had to apologize publicly. Adam Rapoport resigned as editor in chief of the magazine Bon Appétit on Monday after a 2004 photo showing him in an offensive costume resurfaced on social media.
And Greg Glassman, the founder and chief executive of CrossFit, stepped down on Tuesday following comments about race and racism on a Zoom call to gym owners.
“We’re not mourning for George Floyd, I don’t think me or any of my staff are,” said Mr. Glassman on the Zoom call, according to a recording of the call provided to The Times.
“Can you tell me why I should mourn for him?” he said. “Other than it’s the ‘white’ thing to do. I get that pressure, but give me another reason.”
NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast that includes the NBC broadcast network and cable channels like Bravo, has encountered fires on multiple fronts as the reckoning has swept the country.
For NBC, the problems started the morning after Mr. Floyd’s death, when Jimmy Fallon found himself under attack on Twitter for performing in blackface on “Saturday Night Live” in 2000. A video of the sketch had resurfaced online. Mr. Fallon, who has been an NBC star for 22 years, first at “SNL” and more recently leading the “Tonight” show, issued a written apology that afternoon. He apologized at length on camera the following day.
On June 2, a writer was fired from an upcoming NBC series, “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” after posting photos of himself on Facebook holding a weapon and threatening to “light up” looters.
Then came an explosion from NBCUniversal’s cable division. The hit reality series “Vanderpump Rules,” an anchor tenant on Bravo since 2013, fired four cast members for past racist behavior. Some of the incidents were already known. Others were disclosed on Instagram after Mr. Floyd’s death.
On June 8, Brian Roberts, Comcast’s chief executive, said in a memo to employees that the company would give $75 million to social justice organizations, along with $25 million worth of advertising inventory, including on Sky, its pay-television unit in Britain.
“We know that Comcast alone can’t remedy this complex issue,” Mr. Roberts wrote. “But you have my commitment that our company will try to play an integral role in driving lasting reform.”

Daily Current Affairs 08th April 2020
Today’s  Important  Topic’s  For UPSC Preparation
1.  INDIA LIFTS BAN ON EXPORT OF HYDROXYCLOROQUINE.2. OPPOSITION SLAMS DRUG EXPORT.3. KERALA-KARNATAKA BORDER ROW SORTED OUT, CENTRE INFORMS SC.4. LOSS OF SMELL MAY BE LINKED TO CELLS: STUDY. 5. SBI CUTS MCLR BY 35BPS. 6. ECONOMY TO CONTRACT 4.5% IN FOURTH QUARTER, SAYS ICRA.
INDIA LIFTS BAN ON EXPORT OF HYDROXYCLOROQUINEWhat is hydroxychloroquine and what is it used for?
It is an antimalarial drug option, considered less toxic than chloroquine, and prescribed in certain cases.
Doctors also prescribe hydroxychloroquine for patients of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
Who makes this drug in India?
Hydroxychloroquine had a market size of only around Rs 152.80 crore in the 12 months ended February 2020, according to pharmaceutical market research firm AIOCD Awacs PharmaTrac.
However, several countries source the drug from India.
Mumbai-headquartered Ipca Laboratories had nearly 82% of the market, with its brands HCQS and HYQ.
Around 80% of the volumes produced by Ipca are exported.
Ahmedabad-headquartered Cadila Healthcare (Zydus Cadila) prepares the brand Zy Q, with 8% of the market.
Wallace Pharmaceuticals (OXCQ), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (HQTOR) and Overseas Healthcare Pvt Ltd (CARTIQUIN) have smaller shares.
Why has the COVID-19 outbreak spotlighted hydroxychloroquine?
In a study last month in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents (IJAA), French scientists reported: Twenty cases were treated and showed a significant reduction of the viral carriage.
Compared to controls, and much lower average carrying duration than reported of untreated patients in the literature.
Azithromycin (an antibiotic) added to hydroxychloroquine was significantly more efficient for virus elimination.
The study was flagged as being too small to draw a definitive conclusion.
However, by March 21, Trump had begun to call the drug a “game changer”, and has since been pushing it.
At the end of last month, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) issued an advisory recommending the use of hydroxychloroquine in asymptomatic healthcare workers treating COVID-19 patients.
And also allowed doctors to prescribe it for household contacts of confirmed COVID-19 patients.
However, the government has stressed that the drug can only be used in COVID-19 treatment on prescription, and that it should not instill a sense of “false security”.
Since when has India stopped exporting the drug?
The US has been looking to procure the drug for emergency use.
On March 21, Ipca told stock exchanges here that the US Food and Drug Administration had “made exception” to its import alert against the company so that it could get stocks.
India decided to ban exports of the drug on April 4. On Tuesday, the government decided to ease the ban.
Is hydroxychloroquine actually effective?
Two large trials are under way on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, and even chloroquine, in COVID-19 treatment.
In the World Health Organization (WHO) solidarity trial, of which India is a part, clinicians worldwide are to follow a common protocol to treat patients with hydroxychloroquine.
The second is the chloroquine accelerator trial, largely funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
As of now, the jury is still out on how effective these drugs can be against the virus, according to virologist and CEO of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Dr Shahid Jameel.
Both of these are testing very large numbers of patients according to the random testing protocol used to test medicines.
The results of those trials are not available yet.
If people in high exposure situations such as health workers are taking hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine as a preventive measure in limited ways, it may be fine.
But, it is not all right for the general public to go around popping these drugs hoping that they will be protected.
They may not be protected, but they will definitely cause themselves some harm.
Why in News?
India on Tuesday announced that it had rescinded its earlier ban on the export of malaria drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ).
In view of the humanitarian aspects of the pandemic, it has been decided that India would licence paracetamol and HCQ in appropriate quantities to all our neighbouring countries who are dependent on our capabilities.
We will also be supplying these essential drugs to some nations that have been particularly badly affected by the pandemic.
The MEA announcement came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump said that India could invite “retaliation” if it withheld supplies of HCQ, for which the U.S., Brazil and other countries have already placed advance orders.
OPPOSITION SLAMS DRUG EXPORT
The Opposition criticised the Union government for the quick capitulation in the face of a veiled threat by U.S. President Donald Trump on the ban on export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine.
The government lifted the ban within hours of Mr. Trump’s comments.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to argue that Indians have the first right over life-saving medicines during the coronavirus pandemic.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that though the Congress valued and cherished India’s friendship with the U.S., it saw Mr. Trump’s language as ‘unwarranted’.
Allowing the export of hydroxychloroquine by bowing down before a foreign power cannot be in national interest, he said.
The government should think deeply about the export of essential medicines as our citizens have the first right over them.
Let down India: Yechury
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the statement by the U.S. President was completely unacceptable.
But Modi govt has succumbed to the threat by allowing the export.
That this happened after an expensive gala was organised for him by Modi, instead of preparing to contain Covid-19, shows how this govt has let down India.
Senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha member Saugata Roy said that while the humanitarian gesture made by the Indian government was welcome, it should have raised concern over the language used by Mr. Trump.
KERALA-KARNATAKA BORDER ROW SORTED OUT, CENTRE INFORMS SC
The Supreme Court on Tuesday disposed of a bunch of petitions concerning the Kerala-Karnataka border sealing case after the Union government informed that a consensus had been worked out to allow patients requiring urgent medical treatment to cross the Talapadi border and access hospitals in Mangaluru.
Appearing before a Bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said a meeting was held among the Union Home Secretary and the Chief Secretaries of the States to amicably resolve the crisis.
An agreement had been reached on the parameters and protocol for allowing patients into Karnataka.
On April 3, the court ordered the Centre, Kerala and Karnataka to confer immediately and “formulate parameters for passage of patients for urgent medical treatment at the border at Talapadi”.
The court then listed the case on April 7.
The April 3 order was based on petitions highlighting how Karnataka had enforced a blockade which, the court was informed, had resulted in deaths as ambulances bound for Mangaluru were not being permitted to cross the border.
The petitions asked the court to intervene to facilitate free movement of vehicles carrying persons who need urgent medical treatment across the border.
Karnataka argued that the blockade was put in place in the interest of public health.
The situation regarding COVID-19 was “really dire”.
Kerala was the “worst-affected” State in the country, with nearly 194 cases.
In this, Kasaragod, adjoining Karnataka, was the “worst-affected” district of Kerala with over 100 positive cases, it said.
LOSS OF SMELL MAY BE LINKED TO CELLS: STUDY
Multiple reports have surfaced, primarily from Europe and the United States, from physicians and ear, nose and throat specialists, of COVID-19 patients complaining of an inability to smell — or anosmia.
However, it is not clear whether neurons in the brain that are responsible for recognising various odours are damaged, or whether other cells may be involved.
Researchers at Delhi’s Indrapastha Institute of Information Technology report in the study that is still being peer-reviewed but available as a public preprint.
It is not neurons but a class of cells in the upper regions of the nasal cavity that may be involved: these are called sustentacular cells and horizontal basal cells.
Crucially, both are not directly involved in helping us smell, but nourish and support the cells that help us do, and so the virus may be inflicting an indirect attack on the olfactory sensory cells.
While research on this aspect of the disease is emerging, studies say the loss of smell is different from diminished smell or a lack of perceiving flavour in food when one is afflicted with a cold or stuffy nose.
The coronavirus has spike proteins that bind to ACE 2 receptors on human cells and the enzyme’s presence is a proxy to revealing the signature of the virus in the body’s cells.
Clinical Symptoms:
Research so far suggests that it take between 5-14 days for clinical symptoms of the virus — dry cough, laboured breathing and fever — to show and unless this manifested, those infected are likely to continue socialising and spreading the virus.
Because the loss of smell surfaces much earlier, anyone who does not feel sick but registers a significant inability to smell could self-isolate.
A questionnaire could be used via an app, for users to check or report these systems to a doctor.
An analysis by a team at King’s College London showed that 59% of COVID-19 positive patients reported a loss of smell and taste, compared with only 18% of those who tested negative for the disease.
These results were much stronger in predicting a positive COVID-19 diagnosis than self-reported fever.
SBI CUTS MCLR BY 35BPSWhat is marginal cost of funds-based lending rate or MCLR?
The RBI introduced the MCLR methodology for fixing interest rates from 1 April 2016.
It replaced the base rate structure, which had been in place since July 2010.
The marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) is the minimum interest rate that a bank can lend at.
MCLR is a tenor-linked internal benchmark, which means the rate is determined internally by the bank depending on the period left for the repayment of a loan.
MCLR is closely linked to the actual deposit rates and is calculated based on four components:
(a)            The marginal cost of funds,
(b)           Negative carry on account of cash reserve ratio,
(c)            Operating costs and
(d)           Tenor premium.
Under the MCLR regime, banks are free to offer all categories of loans on fixed or floating interest rates.
The actual lending rates for loans of different categories and tenors are determined by adding the components of spread to MCLR.
Therefore, the bank cannot lend at a rate lower than MCLR of a particular maturity, for all loans linked to that benchmark.
Fixed-rate loans with tenors of up to three years are also priced according to MCLR.
Banks review and publish MCLR of different maturities, every month.
Certain loan rates, like that of fixed-rate loans with tenors above three years and special loan schemes offered by the government, are not linked to MCLR. Read more..

Liver Cancer Diagnostics Market Report Examines Size, Status and Forecast 2017-2022
Liver cancer is the form of cancer wherein tissues of liver are affected by hepatitis B or hepatitis C virus. Cancer formed in the tissues of liver is termed as primary liver cancer, while the cancer which spreads to the liver from other parts of the body is known as secondary liver cancer.
Read Report Summary at: https://www.factmr.com/report/73/liver-cancer-diagnostics-market
Fact.MR, in its recent study, projects the global liver cancer diagnostics market to register a steady expansion at 5.5% CAGR during the forecast period 2017 to 2022. In 2017, the global market for liver cancer diagnostics is expected to reach nearly US$ 700 Mn in revenues.
Liver cancer, the fifth most common cancer, accounted for 9.1% deaths among all cancer patients worldwide in 2012. Poor survival rate and extremely aggressive nature attributed to liver cancer has made this disease to become an imperative health issue around the world. Various risk factors have been associated with liver cancer, which include hepatitis B virus (HBV), exposure to dietary aflatoxin, alcohol-induced cirrhosis, diabetes, obesity, and infection associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV). As these risk factors are modifiable, a strong prospect has been offered for reducing its prevalence and mortality with the help of preventive strategies including hepatitis immunization and lifestyle modification.
Liver cancer, or, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been observed to cause a large number of deaths annually. In a bid to prevent liver cancer from reaching the final stage, scientists around the world have developed a slew of improved diagnostic solutions. Newer techniques are being developed for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, rendering both partial hepatectomy, and liver transplant safer and more effective. Global leading medical instrument manufaturers are focusing on the development of new novel instruments in order to diagnose liver cancer completely. These factors are estimated to drive growth of the global liver cancer diagnostics market during the forecast period.
Get the Report Sample at: https://www.factmr.com/connectus/sample?flag=S&rep_id=73
