if I had a dollar for every time someone in charge at Phantom deliberately ignored Steve Barton at some big speech where deceased members of the original team are mentioned, I'd have like 3 dollars. which isn't a lot, I'm just ready to hunt Cammack and ALW for sport over it.
This. THIS. Every goddamn time.
And also, of the costumes they have sold off from the original cast.... it's all Steve Barton (trousers and waistcoat), and none of Michael Crawford's or Sarah Brightman's costumes. Probably not a deeper thought behind it, and I guess you could argue that of the three we know for sure he would never repeat the role. But let's be honest, the others would never either, aaaaaand they would not fit their original costumes anyway. So it feels like a Steve Barton snub.
He was such a vital part of forming original Phantom, both in his brilliant Raoul, making the role a proper lead role, in his effortless understudying and later full-time work as the Phantom, AND in the inputs he gave to the costumes which is still how they are worn today. So yes, MORE STEVE BARTON IN THE MONITOR PLEASE.

I'm tired of seeing the word grooming taken out and used all the time by people who probably don't understand its definition.
For the record, Christine was in her twenties, when she met the Phantom / Erik. She was a fucking adult, in a society that for the time considered her a spinster. She never turned 15 or 16 in the original story, as people are so fond of claiming.
Also, Erik is not a villain but an anti-hero character. I'm tired of seeing him constantly demonize, like he's just a bad guy, when he doesn't.
Erik and Christine are basically twisted versions of Beauty and the Beast, Hades and Persephone, and Romeo and Juliet. Without forgetting that they are also, among other things, the incarnation of death and the maiden.
Erik also symbolizes Christine's sexual awakening and coming of age.
Whether you like it or not, they have a romantic and sexual connection in the original text.
