[ FE4 Character Impressions 9 - I draw want I want 😎 ]
I thought #8 was the last one, but Gen 2 have a severe lack of WAVY HAIR SUPREMACY, so here were are. 💁‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Poor Kurth, you read about how he’s pretty much a genius, but he doesn’t get to do anything u_u;
- Azmur sucks (ye, I said it), I refuse to draw him
- Febail’s fine but I really wanted a beautiful blond braid-bearing boy with a bow as Brigid’s son, with matching blue hair ties with Patty
- I love drawing Byron, because he’s very close to old Hector with grey hair, also because Byron is the best 😤
- when Siggy had that touching moment where he said Lahna was like a mom, I immediately shipped it ;’D (Byron x Lahna)
- no wonder everyone wanted Arvis for emperor, Azmur sucked, Kurth got hit by the plot hammer, man’s got it all: brains, power, and looks (pretty hot amirite? ❤️‍🔥 …too soon? 🤪)
- headcanon that Gen 2 Arvis has the worst eye bags
- Gen 1 Travant was a ladykiller (literally and metaphorically), just look at the smirk on his portrait 😏
- so I thought I’d hate Travant irrevocably after he killed my fav couple, took their daughter, and pretended to be her real dad… but I was wrong. I still don’t really understand how I feel about him. He can’t be forgiven, and yet… I don’t hate him 🫣 FE4 is wild, man…
- one thing I really like about Travant is how smart he is, intelligent enemies that are calculating and don’t underestimate you are the most terrifying
Travant: “WORM.”
Me: hehe, “Wyrm.” *gets impaled by Gungnir*
Look how similar these bad boys are. I swear they were swapping hair care tips in their younger days.

Don't think too hard about this crossover. It won't withstand much thinking before it falls apart. I just think this part would be funny okay? XD
Also Jethro!Dheginsea would be an international treasure and I stand by that opinion.

The events leading up to and after the timeskip in FE4 are brutal... first Prince Kurth gets stabbed right in front of Deirdre, then it turns out Arvis is the Flame Emperor, then he attacks the Belhalla Academy while everyone's still there, King Azmur transforms into a dragon (because apparently he could do that) and Deirdre gets blasted into a pit by Manfroy, and then she wakes up five years later to find Sigurd's gone feral because he got really depressed and then Hilda staged a coup to take over Chalphy and Arden sacrificed himself so Sigurd could escape his execution. But it was touching that everyone risked their lives to visit the ruins of the academy on the day they'd promised to. Also why do people say there's a second generation in this game? Only Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses have a second generation.
huh. Véjà du.

Soren’s cousin is also like. Has the heritage of all three dragon laguz types. I bet if Kurth never had children they would be next in line for the throne. Could be very worldly too after traveling with Soren.
This is another idea you could build a whole game around. The adventures of the tri-colored dragon prince and his grouchy old cousin.

A Man Amongst Dragons
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn Rating: General (goldoan prince soren au, rajaion lives au) Relationships: Ike/Soren, Soren&Rajaion&Kurthnaga Word Count: 6026 Read it on AO3: A Man Amongst Dragons
Tumblr media
For day 7 I decided to tackle the Prince Soren AU, which is an AU that I'm very fond of, though I decided to go with a Goldoan Prince Soren instead of the Daein variety I see more often. I just wanted to write dragon family banter bc I think Soren's relationships with Kurth and Raj could be very interesting! And Almedha too, though I didn't get the chance to include her in this one beyond references. Hope you like it!

FE10 Extended Script: Herons and Dragons
Found it VERY interesting only in the extended script they gave us examples of what’s discussed below because...hmmmmm...this kinda sounds like pretty juicy bits of lore, right?
Radiant Dawn P3C14E - Extended
Ike: “Have you heard anything from Prince Kurthnaga yet?”
Ena: “Yes, I just received a message…”
Ike: “Don’t tell me…No luck, right?”
Ena: “It is far worse than that. Prince Kurthnaga has decided to fight for Daein.” (Lehran has now successfully tricked each Dragon royal sibling into sticking around Daein- consciously or not)
Ike: “What?! Why? He was supposed to stop them from fighting! And now he wants to fight us instead?! Oh great, what are the dragons of Goldoa thinking?!”
Ena: “These turn of events…are not what my country wish for. It is Prince Kurth’s own wish to fight. King Dheginsea knows nothing of this visit…And of course, Prince Kurth has a good reason to side with Daein, but…I’m afraid I cannot tell you why.”
Ike: “Wonderful….”
Ena: “I will try to reason with Prince Kurth again. For a prince of the dragon tribe to stand on a battlefield…It is unacceptable. I must talk him out of it.” (Uh oh x2)
Ike: “…Wait, are you talking to him with that stone?”
Ena: “Yes. We dragons have the power to sense the presence of our own kind. In particular, if we share blood ties with someone…or care for them very much, we can know their condition…as well as understand their thoughts, even across extreme distances.”
Ike: “When Nasir felt your presence at Crimea…and when Reyson could sense Leanne’s presence, it was because of this ability?”
Ena: “That’s right. The heron clan…possess that same ability. With the sending stone, we can increase the natural strength of this ability, so that no matter how far apart we are, we can communicate using telepathy.”
Ike: “That’s one impressive stone.” (Right? Grab some before leaving.)
DURING BATTLE
Kurthnaga: “My body feels like it’s on fire…I can hardly breathe! So, this is what war feels like…No, please, don’t come near me…I don’t want to hurt anyone!”
Ike: “Prince Kurthnaga!”
Kurthnaga: “It’s so hot… I’m burning up! My body, it’s on fire!”
Ike: “Can you hear me? I guess not. Kurth, what’s happening to you?”
Kurthnaga: “I don’t want to fight…I…I don’t want to take any more lives…”
Kurthnaga: “Don’t come near me! I can barely…I don’t want to do this! Get away!” (All this is distinctly Kurthnaga trying to CONTROL himself, if you ask me. I think if Herons are of Order then Dragons are of Chaos. That would explain...so much...lmao)
Ah, the pieces are coming together. Kurthnaga on the battlefield in this chapter is a COMPLETE mess...the energies of battle prove to be too much for him. He secludes himself in a tent afterwards but still isn’t able to knock himself out of it until Ike gets him to open up rather than repress...cough...cough cough...
Now check out this conversation between Micaiah and Soren which takes place in the exact chapter before the explanation about similarities in Herons and Dragons. And it’s easily missable if you don’t save a Purge Tome to attack Soren from afar.
Soren: “That last battle, in the valley. Was that your strategy?”
Micaiah: “...”
Soren: “That was impressive. You killed thousands of beorc soldiers with your little ambush. Well done.” (ADF:KFLADSKFL:ASDFKDS)
Micaiah: “I...”
Soren: “The Maiden of Dawn...What are you? One of the Branded, that's for sure. But there is something else about you...Power. Yes, I can feel it in you. You possess great power.”
Micaiah: “Yes, and you would know. There's something very different about you, too. Your energy feels so...ancient. You and I seem to have so much in common.”
Soren: “That doesn't matter in the slightest. The only thing that does matter is that you are a dangerous adversary. You are also in Ike's path, so it falls to me to remove you. It's almost a shame. Farewell, Maiden of Dawn.”
Micaiah: “So, you fight for someone, as well. So very much alike...But I will defeat you. I will protect the ones I love!
Very curious what similarities- as well as differences as one is more closer to Order and the other Chaos- between the two tribes might mean for Soren, personally. We know what powers Micaiah has and we know what powers the Heron clan has. The issue would be figuring out how this translates over to the Dragon tribe. We’ve seen Soren sense things other people can’t but...it makes you wonder what sense(s) he’s using, y’know? We know he has incredible spatial awareness to the point he literally starts doing recon by himself because he knows the job will be done best by him and no one else. But what else is possible with what we’re given? IDK have fun with this information.

I tried to put together my thoughts about Cigyun so I can write her.  I can’t promise it’s coherent at all but softsmile here
Early life thots
Grew up in the spirit forest duh
But like I don't think it was as you cannot ever leave ever as it was with Dee
Like maybe she goes into town sometimes to get supplies
She's a weird forest girl who hangs out with birds and little creatures though
Running away with Victor
I wouldn't be surprised if the lopt cult has something to do with luring her out of the forest. Like they know about her clearly and it's to their benefit that she dips
She's free spirited, lonely, bored, etc
I think he's charming at first. Sweeps her off her feet kind of thing. She falls hard and fast and ignores any red flags but he probably is hiding them too.
Maybe they even get to be happy for a lil wouldn't that be nice I want that for her very badly
So she runs away
Or maybe like she runs away first because she's you know a hormonal and rebellious teenager
Naive forest girl on her own is a terrible idea
So maybe Victor finds and rescues a beautiful mysterious girl like his son does in the future
Life with Victor
It's a big fucking change going from forest hobo to duchess of Velthomer but she's so lovely she seems suited to it
When Arvis is born he becomes her whole entire world
She can't leave for multiple reasons (I don't think she has any idea how to even get home, husband is a powerful man, etc) but Arvis is what's keeping her heart there
Azelle's mom is her best bestie and they're like super tight and it's very important to me
Spoils the fuck outta Arvis!
But like there's a very obvious sadness that's always in her eyes just a melancholy air about her
She tries to hide it around Arvis but he's a smart kid I can't imagine he wouldn't pick up on it even at such a young age :(
There's part of her that likes being bougie too I think for sure
Running away from Victor
Prince Kurth is actually nice to her! Like really legitimately nice! Of course she likes him!
I want them to start out as friends
They don't rush into it probably because she's afraid of Vicky
But like eventually shit happens
And by shit I mean Deirdre
That one speculation that they work together to murder Victor is so spicy and I love it but like it's also fun if he's just a selfish jerk ya know
She finds out she's pregante and oh fuck that's bad she knows why she can't have kids she's gotta get bad to the forest fuck
Maybe Kurth helps her flee? She'd need money and shit
Or maybe she can't bring herself to face him and tell him the truth about her stinky blood so she sneaks away from him
She gets back to the forest and is like I'm sorry I fucked up help me birth this kid
Dies in childbirth because she's so fucking depressed and stressed
I want deirdre's circlet to have been a gift to cigyun from Kurth I think that's cute

I feel like you've read my mind because I specifically want Sigurd to be the parent who gets called into the preschool during the middle of the day for an emergency parent-teacher conference about the fact that Julius won't stop biting the other kids.
Also, like, considering Sigurd never got to see his son grow up and all that, canonically, I think he should be allowed to spend as much time with his kids as he wants. But also like. It would be really funny.

Everything happens so much in Jugdral's politics! In Agustria, you have President Chagall flipping his shit because Eldigan, governor of Nordion, is more popular with the people. You have the governor's younger sister running his presidential campaign, despite the fact that Eldigan has said he does not want to run for president of Agustria. (He wins anyway. Quan and Sigurd swear a life debt to Lachesis for making it happen.)
And then in Grannvale, one of Prime Minister Kurth's main advisors is the son of another prominent politician - a politician who killed himself twenty years ago after he found out that his wife was cheating on him, with Kurth. What in the goddamn soap opera hell is that about?
And then in Verdane, the youngest prince disappeared suddenly and then was found a month later shacking up in Grannvale with a priestess.
And the prince of Silesse has a soundcloud and actually has a few bangers.
There is never a dull moment in Jugdral.

"Ike!" Kurthnaga waves at the man in greeting, almost having to crane his neck to look up at Ike properly. It feels like it has been forever since he has seen the other man, and perhaps it has. Or least, long enough that he has begun to dearly miss everyone from home.
"How are you doing? It's nice to see you here." He smiles innocently, hugging the books he holds a little closer to his chest. He had been making a run to library before he had spotted the mercenary, but this was a more than welcome distraction.
"Oh wait! Aren't you going to be a Golden Deer professor...? I suppose that makes us coworkers then! It's an honour, Ike!"
"Kurth!?" Imagine Ike's surprise. He had traveled by land and sea across continents to arrive at some distant, strange land...
Only to find a familiar friend had beat him here! But there the dragon prince was, like barely a day had passed since they last saw each other. Ike wasn't one to dwell on things, however, and his shock quickly gave way to a relentless joy.
"Hah! I never would've guessed I'd bump into you! It's no surprise we chose the same house I guess. Looks like we're allies again, and this time we don't have a war to worry about. I'm looking forward to working with you again, old friend."

Tea: Just what it says on the tin! There’s a wide variety of herbs, berries, fruits, and other flavors, brewed in a way that requires the leaves to be scooped out afterwards. Mmm nature
"Oh, thank you Kurth!" The kindly prince offers her a tea that smells strongly floral and herby, sweetness tinging its wildness. They've gotten to know each others' tastes fairly well, over their time in diplomatic circles and at Garreg Mach. She appreciates having such a good laguz friend from Tellius in her life here; while she loves the new connections she has made, having someone who she does not need to explain shifting or Serenes to is nice. "How has the ball been treating you?"
She takes a sip from the cup. Oh, this is almost like a dream the way it blends so well, a perfect temperature on her tongue! Perhaps their patrons had ordained it so, though their control over the situation seems to be far less absolute than one would have in a dreamscape.
"Oh! Before I forget. Which elemental mark have you been granted? Mine is water, as you can see." Leanne holds out her free hand to Kurthnaga, making a little pleased sound as she samples more of the tea. "We should exchange flowers, if you are not already in need of mine!"

Convictions of a Steadfast Star { Cigyun || Kurth
[ Prince Kurth of Grannvale — Friend. If Nothing Else ]
What undoes Kurth is the fact that the stars are unmoving, as they are steadfast in their gaze and unfaltering in their path across the sky. The refinements of polished society suit her well—it reflects in her manner of poise and the way her eyes give off a silent, faithful glow in the direction of another. His dear friend has the means to undo Kurth, and she does so every time she plants her heels on cold tile, waiting for warmth to reach her roots. It struck him odd that she would not allow herself to come apart, no matter how roughly her husband tugged at her loose threads.
What warmth could come to a star who could not come apart, but sought the orbit of another?
He descended the stairs, waving off the troves of socialites and advisors biting at his heels for something more than he was. His footsteps clacked with a well-tempered warmth, of which he'd gladly trade his friend in exchange for her gaze to falter— just once. The pianoforte was close enough for him to tease. "Are you willing to play for me, Cigyun?" She had no need to— but the vision of her dancing away at ivory keys was delightful. "I jest. I would never put you on the spot like that."
Kurth could not help but cast the corner of his gaze on the unsightly philandering of one such Victor Velthomer, but he refrained from mentioning his disagreeable countenance. The infamous man had another woman hanging off his arms, as though his footwork could attract every insatiable flower aside from the one that was actually his. Kurth's gaze followed the soft glow of Cigyun's curls instead, as his chest lifted in prim, composed pride. "You know as well as I that your good humor belongs on the ballroom floor."
Extending his ever steady hand in her direction, he wondered if he had any right to deign her an unfaltering star. What exactly would that make him? (Cut from the same velvet, perhaps? What right did he have to intervene then?) Kurth was hardly in tune with his own expressions, as the soft crinkle of his eyes cracked through his more stoic countenance. His reputation of being straighter than an arrow could almost be deemed a mistake in good company.
Kurth's hand extended, falling away from his own trajectory into hers.
"Would you do me the honor of reserving your next dance for me? I cannot mistake a great moment of happiness when I see one."

everyone gives sigurd such a hard time for being a dumb fuck but arvis started off by trusting the guys who literally told him they wanted to bring loptous back from the dead. he then immediately got rid of prince kurth, who was absolutely not fucking and thus would have no heir besides A Surprise Tool That Will Help Us Later, because he couldn't wait five seconds to take over the world. it doesn't get better from there. he tricks langbalt and reptor but only because they think that the balance of power is different to what it is. he does nothing to ameliorate the fact that his son has a chance of being turbocursed, which is handily revealed by a literal birthmark. when his son DOES get turbocursed, he immediately gives up on doing anything about it except trying to kick him out of the country. because that would work. he went into managing an empire after having offed eighty percent of the people who could help him manage it. and let's not even get into how he didn't realize about the whole deirdre thing until After the kids were born. the only brilliant mind he ever had was for strategy and politicking and i mean. he is good at those! but my god, man

a kiss on the forehead of one who is starting to fall asleep //au!
Though Kurthnaga was now practically an adult, both by laguz and beorc standards, Sephiran still thought of him as the little dragon prince who he watched grow up. It did not help that now, he was nodding off as he graded papers, the drowsiness bringing a childlike air. Catching him as sleep found its hold on him was something Sephiran was accustomed to, and he did so again. He gives a small kiss upon Kurthnaga’s head, before heading to find some cover for the young monarch- his monarch.
kisses! (yawn. envy sleepy, but still accepting?)
Kurthnaga blinks his eyes open hours later upon a stack of papers, a linger tingle upon his forehead. He must have fallen asleep while trying to grade, once again.
A blanket is draped gently around his shoulders, like it always was when he had fallen asleep late at night in the library. And he instantly knows who was here before he had nodded off - or rather, remembered seeing him here in his sleep addled state.
He was always so kind to Kurth, even when Kurth did foolish things or stumbled on his path. A man who had always been there for him even when his father had not been. A kind and gentle hand to guide him on his way whenever he had needed. Sephiran, as he was known here, though Kurthnaga had always known him as Lehran. He would have to do something in return for him sooner or later, to show his appreciation, but for now, he will breath simple words even if Lehran cannot hear them now.
"Thank you for your kindness... Papa..."

The more people complain about self inserts in Fire Emblem the more evident it becomes that they're not holding the "not self insert" main characters (in FE games that don't have a self insert) not even halfway to the same standard
Sorry for the late reply anon, I tried to type something, then forgot, then retyped but wasn't satisfied, and they forgot again etc etc
For your answer -
I cannot really say I agree, because while some MC can be irritating and annoying and be seen as the second coming of Jesus in their respective verses (Ike) - the issue is mostly prevalent in recent games with avatars, especially in FE16.
Take Minerva.
She switches side because Marth'n'pals rescue Maria, not because Marth is really really rad. Minerva has strong bonds with the Whitewings, especially Palla.
Palla isn't fridged somewhere to make Minerva support Marth, or tell everyone how much of a great guy he is, Minerva can bounce off Palla, Maria and Michalis.
Sigurd? Is the protagonist of FE4, and how boys does it deserve him. All of his allies die, and I remember pointing it out in my LP, while Seliph and F!Lewyn all put the blame on Sigurd's allies's deaths on Sigurd himself, that's a load of crap. Quan died because Travant attacked, Eldie died because Chagall was a douche. Lewyn would most likely have died due to his uncles, or Arvis invading the land.
Claude (the FE4 one!) was branded a traitor and marked to die the second he went to Orgahill and learnt it wasn't Byron who killed Prince Kurth, but Langobalt'n'Reptor.
Did Briggid join Sigurd's quest because Sigurd is awesome, or because Aidean asked her to help them - and Siggy's group helped her against her former bandit friends?
Seliph is seen by everyone as the messiah - but he feels like he is usurping this role, because he is no Messiah, he just is the "Son of". Nonetheless, if this is the role the people of Jugdral need him to play/embrace, then he will do it. Seliph doesn't trounce people right and left with his awesome weapon, hell, Arvis is the one to give him Tyrfing.
Ephraim? Deconstruct the Chad Lord trope - it is (partly) because he was such a chad that Lyon turned to evil forces in hopes to impress him - post FE8!Ephraim is a mess. The strongest and chadest of all princes to have ever chaded out there couldn't protect his father, his country nor save his best friend.
Funny thing, Ephraim doesn't recruit everyone in FE8; Eirika recruits people too and is closer to the "future lords of Magvel" than Ephraim will ever be (Joshua gets his "true" ending on Erika's route, seeing his mom, and Innes sided with her instead of Leeroying Jenkinsing in Grado with Ephraim).
For all of the orange sucking FE15 had, Alm might be teh Hero (tm) but he is not the alpha and omega of every character - let Mathilda die and Clive will stop worshiping his oranges. No matter how rad he is, if you did not save Tatiana, Zeke won't join. Ditto if you killed Zeke, Tatiana will not join.
Even if Ike is my most disliked Lord (outside of avatars) from the franchise, he is not the everything to his verse (at least in FE9). Jill will ditch the Greil Mercenaries to join the enemy, unless she has a support, not with Ike himself, but with a subhuman or Ike's useless sister.
See where I'm going?
There's no scissors pulled out to sever the bonds existing between characters to insert a "self-insert" character.
Reyson and Leanne love each other, Reyson will rush to her when she is rescued by Naesala, he will not take a backseat for Ike to rush to her when she is saved.
During Rajaion's last moments, the close up is on Ena being by his side. Not Ike.
Rhea being freed from Gritnea? Billy CG. Rhea having her last (unless power of the A Support) moments in the cathedral? In Billy's arms.
What is Seteth, Flayn, Cyril or even Catherine? I don't know.
Ranulf is Skrimir's right hand man. Ranulf isn't put in a freezer for Ike to take his role, until he returns.
Games where the lord isn't a self-insert doesn't pull the awful "alone B4 U" nonsense, Eliwood might have recruited Nino and saved Jaffar, Jaffar's first and most important bond will be to Nino, and Nino will in turn support her uncle Legault.
Tatiana isn’t fridged so Zeke can only side with Alm because Alm is super cool and has warm hands, nope. Zeke will only side with Alm if Tatiana was, lel, de-fridged from Nuibaba’s abode.
I’ve kind of warmed up (a bit) about Billy and what they could have been, but what the game did of them (self-insert + avatar powers being a blackhole warping the narration and its characters) really sucks, and brings down FE16.
I think this ask was sent before the interview were the devs said they didn’t want to give a better ending in Nopes than any you can reach in Houses else the player will feel bad bcs Billy’s the self-insert...
-> here you have your validation. The world, and even the subsequent Fodlan games must accomodate to make Billy, the player’s avatar, the only reason why the world is saved.
it’s the Doylist explanation to all this Watsonian stuff I’ve brough, and it’s terrible.
I really hope IS will drop this “idea” because the avatar with his magic scissors remodeling characters to turn them in S-Support material is awful, and in a series that prided itself on its story+characters, if you remove the characters you’re not left with anything else.
