ラリーヤングのUnityを聴いた流れでコレを聴いてます。ランディの恐らく1stソロ？ブレッカーbro.を聴くのは久々です。よりによってコレですけど。これは、アコースティックと思っ切りロックの両極端な演奏が愉しめます。メンツが凄い！インスタご覧の方は是非2枚目の写真を。ジャンルによってメンツが変わります。(どっちがどっちかは、よくご存知の方ならすぐ分かるかと) あのブレッカーbro.をイメージされた方は驚くと思います。二人ともまだ未完成ですが、今聴くと僕はこっちの方が好きだなぁ。ランディは「あ、ここはウディショウで、ここはマイルス！」って感じで色んな人の影響が見えます。マイケルは、もう別人。驚く事にコルトレーン臭があまり無く、どちらかと言うと寧ろジョーヘンの方が近い。そして、中期に見られたモーダル・コルトレーン/ビバップ…の切り替えスイッチも無く、そもそもビバップ臭も比較的薄い。やはり、Unityが相当影響を与えたのではないかと！ロックを吹くと、流石に二人とも例のブレッカーbro.的になりますが。結構良い曲も多く、演奏内容も良くて、ジャズアルバムとしてかなり上質なアルバムだったんだと今気が付きました（笑）売れちゃうと「型」を求められるから、つまらなくなる事も多いです(僕はそれでも変化を続けたマイケルを追っかけて、今でも好きですけど)。だから、こういう未完成な時代の方が興味深かったりします。いやぁ、良いのを発見しました。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CPOLHzApDkG/?utm_medium=tumblr

“Power of Soul” by #IdrisMuhammad was recorded in March of 1974 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey featuring Idris on drums, #RandyBrecker on trumpet and Flugelhorn, #GroverWashingtonJr on tenor and soprano, #BobJames on keyboards, #JoeBeck on guitar, #GaryKing on bass and #RalphMcDonald on percussion. It was released in November pf 1974 on the Kudu Records label. This was one of my favorite albums in high school that I wore out the copy I had, so it was only natural I replaced it with this Japanese copy while I was living in Okinawa in the early 80’s. My favorite piece on this album is “Piece of Mind” with “Loran’s Dance” a close second. I do favor this version of “Loran’s Dance” over Grover’s version on his album “Reed Seed”. But, on “Piece of Mind” Grover’s solo makes you feel like you are gliding in the air. If you don’t have this album in your collection, I highly recommended it if you can find it. Album Number One Hundred Six “Blood, Sweat & Tears” is the, self-titled, second album by this band and was released on December 11, 1968. It was commercially successful, rising to the top of the U.S. charts for a collective seven weeks and yielding three successive Top 5 singles. It received a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1970 and has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA with sales of more than four million units in the U.S. In Canada, it enjoyed four runs and altogether eight weeks at No. 1 on the RPM national album chart. My copy is a gatefold on #columbiarecords - PC 9720. Bandleader #alkooper and two other members, #randybrecker and #jerryweiss had left #bloodsweatandtears after their first album. #bobbycolomby and #stevekatz searched for a replacement singer and selected #davidclaytonthomas . Three more musicians joined to bring the band to nine members. I was going through my photos from 2014. I saw this series of photos I had the fortune to take of this group of men. This was Larry Coryell’s last album recorded, in Saint Augustine.
