YTTD requests, you say?
Tumblr media
Hello hello, hopefully this isn't a clog or too much of a bother; and most importantly, I hope you're having a great day right now! But I thought I may as well drop in and get a YTTD headcanon request in, seeing as I may or may not have been the cause of you getting into that series in the first place 😶
So, I'll try to indulge you a little by putting down two characters I know you have a really deep love for. Sei and Kai. 💙 + 💛. Maybe for the friendship one, how they deal with the other getting closer and having more friendships with other people? (I wonder if Sei would be the jealous type that's worried someone might try to take advantage of his brother's kindness 😅)
That's all from me. Do take your time with all the asks getting thrown your way in your inbox, and make sure to get plenty of rest and stay in good health! Have a lovely day ahead of you!
Oh my goodness, Repo! Your ask could never be a bother at all! Please don't ever worry about or apologize for sending in asks about anything. I enjoy them a lot and appreciate each and every one of them that comes in (even if it sometimes takes me a while to answer). I'm actually so excited for this one especially, you really have no idea! Thank you so, so much!! 🥰 It's my first YTTD ask ever so I feel very accomplished and also very excited! 🥳
It does feel appropriate that my first YTTD ask would come from you since, yes, you are absolutely the reason I am now suffering... (I'm only kidding of course. Thank you so much again for the recommendation of such an amazing story and game! I've got some of my friends irl playing it now, and my sister absolutely loves it. I would have never even known it existed if not for you so many thanks for that even if I am now heartbroken over a lot of dysfunctional fictional siblings 💕). On that note, there is especially no need for apologies for sending in an ask that is so incredibly self-indulgent for me. Seriously, I feel so spoiled right now. I don't deserve this! 🥺 My problem sons and their dysfunctional brotherly relationship really is so dear to my heart even if (at the same time) thinking about them makes me want to curl up and cry...
Tumblr media
Why do I do this to myself?! 😭 KAI AND SEI DESERVED BETTER!!! I want to adopt them and give them cake 🎂 *cries*
Anyway, thank you so much again for the ask and for all of the kind words, friend! I hope you have a wonderful day as well, and I really hope you will like these headcanons! Please feel free to stop by anytime (and send in another ask if you want something more self-indulgent for yourself/an ask about your favorite characters too 😁). Cheers!! 💖
Headcanons are below the cut. Thank you for playing my Bye Bye Writer's Block Headcanon's Game! 🥰
(Warnings: Mentions grieving, food, sickness, injury, child abuse, death and angst. MAJOR SPOILERS for YTTD especially the Kai mini-episode)
Kai & Sei Friendship/Family Headcanons
💙-- Hurt/Comfort
During his childhood, Kai once contracted a terrible flu that lasted nearly two weeks. In general, he and Sei were essentially "on their own" when it came to sickness and injuries as children since Gashu believed that they should be strong enough to get over whatever it was on their own and if they weren't, then it was probably for the best that they just succumb to their wounds or illness. Just luckily neither of them were particularly sickly (usually), but they were often injured as part of their training and mostly learned how to care for and dress wounds for themselves. In this case, however, Kai was the sickest he had probably ever been, but as he wasn't expecting any sort of help, it was a complete shock to him that Sei jumped in to take care of him almost immediately.
In Sei's mind, Kai was such an airhead that he couldn't take care of himself on a good day--there was no way he could take care of himself while he was sick, so even though he really didn't know what he was doing he tried his best to play caregiver--mainly just kept his brother warm, making sure he had plenty of water, trying to keep his fever down with cold compresses, and preparing him meals of instant noodles (the only thing he really knew how to make) while worrying far more than he would ever admit. Sei told Kai not to make a big deal out of it--insisting that he was only helping to patch him up so he could beat him at sparring practice later, but Kai, who had never actually been taken care of before, was truly touched by his brother's actions and tried his best to repay the favor going forward.
(Related) Bonus HC [though this one is more angsty]: The first meals that Kai ever learned how to cook were Sei's favorite foods which Kai learned to make for his brother when he was injured (or on the rare occasions that he was sick). Gashu allowed the hobby because he thought it may prove useful one day (And it eventually did when Kai's cover became 'homemaker' and housekeeper for the Chidouins). Sei was always a bit jealous of Kai's cooking skills, especially since when he was recovering, he got these gourmet meals from his brother, but when Kai was recovering, all he got was instant noodles (since Sei really couldn't cook to save his life). Kai insisted he loved the instant noodles, however. (Of course what he really loved was the fact that his brother had taken the time to make them and take care of him).
When he lost Sei, Kai couldn't bring himself to make his favorite foods for a long time, but he spent many a night for those first couple of months without him crying into a cup of instant noodles.
💛-- Friendship
(A/N: I really loved your prompt! Thank you for that. My sister and I were actually just discussing this very topic a couple of days ago, so I'm more than happy to run with it for you! Also 100% agree with your interpretation of Sei as a protective brother!)
Sei is much more jaded and mistrustful than Kai--believing that other people are always playing some sort of angle and/or only looking out for themselves whereas Kai wants to believe in the best in others and is a truly generous person who will genuinely put other people's wants over his own without expecting anything in return. As this is a foreign concept to Sei, it takes him a long time to realize that Kai genuinely cares about him in altruistic way without any strings attached. Sei who has never had such a relationship before recognizes what a gift and a privilege it is to be loved unconditionally, and as such, his bond with Kai quickly becomes one of the most important things in the world to him.
One of Sei's greatest worries as far as his brother is concerned is that someone will twist or trample on what he considers his brother's greatest strengths and take advantage of Kai's selflessness and generosity. For this reason, Sei can be very protective of Kai. While he admires Kai's kindness and good-hearted nature, he thinks it can make his brother a bit airheaded at times and can cause him to put his guard down around other people when he shouldn't--ultimately, leaving him vulnerable to being taken advantage of. Since Kai is kind of aloof, he can seem to be unapproachable to people who don't know him well, and since he is naturally quiet and not one to take much initiative in social situations, it can be difficult for him to make friends. This is, truthfully, a bit of a relief to Sei since it protects Kai from falling in with a more manipulative group who might try to take advantage of him. That said, Sei would be genuinely sad to learn his brother was lonely and wanted friends when/if he didn't have them.
If Kai ever made some good friends, it would take Sei a very long time to warm up to them. They would likely be incredibly confused upon meeting Sei for the first time since Kai always speaks so warmly about his brother and describes what a caring person he is--failing to mention the fact that his brother is a tsundere so that caring nature is hidden under a frosty exterior of bluntness, callousness, and snark.
Sei would have absolutely no problem telling Kai's friends exactly what he thought of them and would likely tell Kai (on multiple occasions) that he can do better. Ultimately, however, Sei wants good things for Kai. As soon as Kai's friends prove that they care about him just as much as Sei does and really do have his best interests at heart, they will likely become endeared to Sei forever, and Sei will feel very grateful and indebted to them for looking out for his brother.
Kai on the other hand would immediately love any friend that Sei made. In fact, he would probably consider them Sei's friends even before Sei would acknowledge them as such--saying things like "It's so nice to meet your friends, Sei!" while Sei (the indignant little tsun) huffily insists, "They're not my friends. They're just some people I know." Kai would be absolutely thrilled to know that Sei had friends (especially since Sei is pretty vocal about his opinion that "friendship is overrated"), and he would try to include them in all of their activities and basically bring them into the family. Sei would very quickly get huffy and annoyed with Kai constantly insisting "Why don't you invite your friend(s), Sei?", muttering under his breath or bitterly thinking to himself "I wish I had never told you I had friends" at least once or twice a week.
Unlike with Kai's friends meeting Sei and being thoroughly surprised, Sei's friends meeting Kai is exactly what they expected--well once they get past that initial awkwardness and aloofness from Kai being naturally shy and quiet person, that is. It is a very short-lived period of time, however, since Kai really tries to push himself to be more outgoing when meeting the friends of his brother. He likes them very much for taking such good care of Sei and befriending him, so he tries to be more openly warm and friendly towards them. He also always treats them very formally (similar to how he addresses Sara as "Sara-san" or "Miss Sara" in the game), and he actually, genuinely thanks them all for being Sei's friend (which embarrasses his brother to the point that his ears turn pink. Poor Sei).

See below the cut for more detail.
This fishing set is intended to allow a sim to catch a variety of fish based on their body skill rather than their badge skill/season/bait type used. Of course all fishers have good days and bad days so they may also pull up some trash, seaweed or some treasure along with the intended catch.
Key Features:
Bait Sources - To fish, one needs bait. Fresh water fish use worms, and salt water creatures prefer small bait fish. These can also be used as Fish Food for farming. If a sim is super desperate, they are worth 1 food point if stocked to the fridge.
Fish Anywhere, Anytime Spots - Comes in fresh water and salt water variations. Works in all seasons, can be used by multiple sims at the same time. All fish are worth a variety of food points based on size and they can be added directly to the fridge or butchered.
Fish Traps - These are passive traps that run every 3 hours (tunable). They must be baited to function and sometimes come up with nothing.
Tidepools - A great place to forage for mollusks, shells, and other small sea critters and salt water foragables.
Farming Tank - Gather the needed materials and creatures to start farming them rather than relying on chance. Fish, mollusks, shrimp, and seaweed can all be grown. Rather than any particular type of fish, sims will received "Farmed Fish". A glass recolor of BB Niches is included for making glass walled tanks. A decorative protective net object can be called onto the Farm Tank.
Cleaning & Packing Station - This all in one station now takes the place of the previous converters and filet knife. All fish except Tuna and Swordfish can be packed into crates, as well as Lobsters, Crabs, and Fish Filets.
When a fish is butchered on this station, it produces Fish Filets that are worth 1 food point a piece. Sims receive as many that a fish raw stocked is worth, plus an additional filet. With certain traits, sims can gain more.
Displays - The Fish Crate Display and Fishing Rod are back, but have been repoed to the Cask Shelf now to save space.
Tools - The fishing rod tool allows for autonomous fishing while the new pole net is required for farming and other actions.

Hi there, Monaca! 😁 I’ve got a question for you (or for Repo-net about you). How would Monaca rank her friends/the other Warriors of Hope? I’ve always gotten the feeling that Monaca and Kotoko actually don’t get along very well even if they act like besties and that Monaca isn’t nearly as close to Masaru as someone might think, for instance. Is that really the case? Thanks in advance & enjoy your blog takeover! 😉
(A/N: Happy April’s Fools too! I’ve gotten such a great laugh about this! Your Monaca post was so spot on that I thought it was some sort of suggested Tumblr post from a Monaca rp blog at first. And gosh you changed your blog theme and colors and everything! It’s impressive!! 😊 Given the current Monaca theme, I thought this would be a good time to ask this but please don’t feel obligated or anything. Cheers!!)
Hello, friend from another land! Thank you for taking the time to write such an interesting question to Monaca.
Hmm, it's been some time since I spent my day thinking about the other Warriors of Hope. My goal is a little further from theirs; and Monaca just has too much on her plate to worry about what antics the four of them get up to. That, and ranking them feels a little trivial and 'gossipy'. But, since you asked so nicely, I'll be happy to indulge you in a few secrets!
4. Jataro Kemuri
Mmm... I don't really have much to say about poor old Jataro, unfortunately. He's just... kind of there. And Monaca feels like he's happy with that role. He says a lot of super strange and random stuff, going on suuuuper long tangets, and all he ever talks about is us hating him.
Which, if he really wants us to believe that? Then Monaca will! It makes him happy, for some strange reason. You can blame his mother for that. Jataro's honestly just really gross and weird - like a worm! But one with value, at the very least. You can never have too many throwaway pieces at your disposal to buy time for yourself, after all.
3. Masaru Daimon
'Monaca's in love with Masaru and how cool, strong and brave he is!' ... That's what Masaru thinks our relationship is, anyways. I get the feeling he does a lot of the stuff he does in an effort to impress Monaca, which I don't particularly mind. But he just feels so needy for the spotlight and to be a 'hero'. He's really reckless and gets himself into trouble so very often.
Frankly, Masaru has his 'redeemable' qualities, if you'd like to call them that. He does care for everyone else in the Warriors of Hope and the other kids in the city in his own arrogant and boastful kind of way, but his motivations are just so fueled with pride of being the best. Monaca can see why he turned out the way he did, but really, I just think he's a little bit too plain.
Still, he's a devoted boy who will never back down from a fight. Monaca could ask him to go out there and fight every adult in the city with his bare hands and he'd probably be silly enough to do it. The 'bravery' and supposed 'courage' he has can be turned into a selfish foolishness quickly and easily.
2. Kotoko Utsugi
If Monaca had to be blunt about it, there's quite the gap between this poor girl and the boy sitting at number one. And even then, she's only up this high anyways because she entertains me in ways the other boys can't. Having someone I can actually talk to about girly girl stuff is a nice way to breathe and relax for once, y'see?
But Monaca knows what Kotoko is. She doesn't love Monaca because she thinks she's 'totally adorbs' and 'so kyuuute'. She loves me because she knows that I know everything that can set her off and turn that freaky facade of hers into a shattered mess in mere seconds. She might be able to fool everyone else, but not Monaca. I know what she really sees me as in the depths of her mind.
But she's more cunning and serves more uses to the grand scheme of things compared to the two pieces below her. Monaca still thinks she's a fraud of an actress, but she wouldn't say that out loud and break poor Kotoko's heart; unless the time finally calls for it and she needs to be disciplined for stepping out of line. Heeheehee...
1. Nagisa Shingetsu
Oh, pitiful Nagisa. It's a travesty; Monaca can see so much potential and talent in him to be something more than what he already is. He can be Monaca's smartest and most reliable soldier, able to handle any task his princess assigns him to because she knows he's capable of it. She expects him to pass every assignment she gives him. But Monaca just can't feel that way about him.
If nothing else; I do... feel amused and charmed by Nagisa's devotion. Out of all the Warriors of Hope, it's super easy to tell that he's more focused than anyone else in our group about the paradise. But his heart is too fragile and too easily manipulated. And that's... dangerous. Monaca knows Nagisa's one heartfelt talk with an adult away from possibly turning against us - and worse, against Monaca.
So... as endearing as Nagisa's obvious feelings for Monaca are and how much he'll do for me to shower him with the praise he's so incredibly reliant on... all I see are the makings of a potential traitor who can't see the world the way Monaca sees it. A shame that him being so obsessed with me is going to be what leads him to break. It'll only be a matter of time though, and he'll finally help me to realize my dream. Doesn't that sound nice, Nagisa? 💚

Tomorrow, June 30, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing beginning at 12:30 p.m. titled “Oversight of the Treasury Department’s and Federal Reserve’s Pandemic Response.” Fed Chair Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin are scheduled as witnesses.
A good number of Democrats on this Committee – such as Maxine Waters (the Chair), Katie Porter, Bill Foster, Brad Sherman, Carolyn Maloney, Madeleine Dean, Sylvia Garcia, and Ayanna Pressley – have no problem fashioning probing questions that benefit the American people’s right to know if government is showing proper stewardship of the people’s money. But Republicans can’t seem to craft a meaningful question, opting instead to simply heap praise on Powell and Mnuchin for the bailout and simultaneous deregulation of Wall Street.
Wall Street On Parade is nothing if not charitable. We want to help out the Republicans on this Committee who are so desperately struggling to hone a question that has any meat to it. We offer the following 10 questions for tomorrow’s hearing:
Since September 17, 2019, the Fed has made more than $9 trillion cumulatively in revolving repo loans to the trading houses on Wall Street at interest rates far below what the market would charge. Since mid-March, the Fed has made hundreds of billions of dollars of these loans at almost zero interest to Wall Street, that is, at 1/10th of one percent interest. Why, then, is the Fed charging the State of Illinois 3.82 percent interest on its loan under the Municipal Liquidity Facility? The states of our nation build our roads and bridges and educate our children, along with funding many other essential services. Why should a state have to borrow from the Fed at 38 times the rate of a Wall Street trading house?
Mr. Powell, both you and your Vice Chairman for Supervision, Randal Quarles, have stated that you intend to provide full transparency to the American people as to whom the money from your emergency facilities is flowing. But thus far, you have provided transaction details on just 3 out of 11 emergency programs. The oldest of these programs is the Primary Dealer Credit Facility. At its peak in April, the facility had made loans of more than $31 billion to trading houses on Wall Street. It’s been over three months that this facility has been operating but the American people have yet to learn to whom, specifically, this money went. When do you plan to release transaction data for this facility and the other facilities that you have yet to report on?
Mr. Mnuchin, the CARES Act earmarked $454 billion for you to hand over to the Federal Reserve so that it could leverage that into approximately $4.54 trillion in emergency lending to businesses, states and local governments, and nonprofits in order to deal with the financial crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Fed’s H.4.1 release, as of June 24 it has received only $114 billion of that money, leaving $340 billion unaccounted for. Mr. Mnuchin, the United States is in the worst financial contraction since the Great Depression. Why hasn’t that money gone to where Congress instructed you to deploy it?
Mr. Powell, you and your Vice Chairman for Supervision, Randal Quarles, have repeatedly stated to Congress and in media interviews that the biggest Wall Street banks are “well capitalized.” But on June 24, Bloomberg News reported that from the start of 2017 through March of this year, “Citigroup returned almost twice as much money to its stockholders as it earned.” Those payouts to stockholders included share buybacks and dividend payments on common and preferred stock. The same article also noted that three other Wall Street banks, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, over the same period had paid out $1.26 for every $1 they reported as net income. Can you explain to us how these banks can be “well capitalized” when they have been paying out more than they have been earning for more than three years?
Mr. Powell, back on September 17 of last year, months before the coronavirus emerged, overnight lending rates on Wall Street abruptly skyrocketed from 2 percent to 10 percent, raising alarm bells that one or more financial institutions were in trouble and nobody wanted to lend to them at less than 10 percent interest. You promised Congress back then that the Fed was researching the problem and would provide Congress with a copy of that report. The Fed jumped in to make those loans in its lender-of-last resort capacity – which is supposed to be a short-term emergency posture. But the Fed has been making those repo loans ever since, to the tune of more than $9 trillion cumulatively. As recently as the first week of June, the Fed had to make $304.20 billion in repo loans. These loans are not going to banks, which could offer that money to consumers and businesses, but to the Wall Street trading houses owned by these banks. Can you now explain to us the nature of the problem that has forced the Fed to continue to make these repo loans to trading houses?
Mr. Powell and Mr. Mnuchin, I’d like each of you to answer this question. After the last financial crisis, the Government Accountability Office published the results of its audit of the Fed’s emergency lending programs. The public learned for the first time that the Fed had made over $2.5 trillion cumulatively in emergency loans to Citigroup over a period that stretched from December 2007 to at least July 21, 2010. For much of that time those loans were illegal because Citigroup was insolvent. The Chair of the FDIC during that crisis was Sheila Bair. She later wrote a book that said this: “virtually no meaningful supervisory measures had been taken against the bank by either the OCC or the NY Fed…Instead, the OCC and the NY Fed stood by as that sick bank continued to pay major dividends and pretended that it was healthy.” Are either of you aware today of any large bank that is under the supervision of the Fed that is being propped up by Fed loans and could not otherwise function?
Mr. Powell, Reuters reported on October 1 of last year that JPMorgan reduced the cash it has on deposit at the Federal Reserve, from which it might have lent to consumers and businesses, by $158 billion in the year through June, a 57% decline. Can you explain to us why the Fed allowed JPMorgan to reduce its reserves with the Fed by 57 percent and what the bank explained to you was the reason for that dramatic drawdown?
Mr. Powell, the European Central Bank in March called upon the banks in the euro zone to refrain from engaging in share buybacks and paying dividends. Large U.S. banks, on their own, announced the discontinuation of buybacks in March but have continued to pay dividends. Why hasn’t the Fed asked the banks to conserve their money available for loans to businesses and consumers during this crisis by suspending dividend payments? And part 2 of that question, has the Fed made repo loans to units of these banks that continued to pay out dividends to shareholders?
Mr. Mnuchin and Mr. Powell, are either of you aware of any Trump business or any member of the Trump family that has benefited from any of the Paycheck Protection Program loans or loans from the Fed’s lending facilities?
Mr. Powell, on May 13 the Fed’s Vice Chairman for Supervision, Randal Quarles, testified before a House hearing. He was asked about the Fed’s corporate bond buying program regarding whether the Fed would hold the bonds to maturity or sell them before maturity in the open market. Mr. Quarles stated: “Our intention is to buy and hold.” Since the Fed is planning to buy bonds with maturities up to five years, are the American people to understand that the Fed envisions being involved in propping up the corporate bond market in the U.S. for half a decade?

Hello hello, it is I again, here to poke at your blog again. Hope you've been having a good week! Thought I might as well see some of your takes on a few things, though I'm not sure if you only wanted one of these categories or all four of them. Either way, feel free to answer the ones you find most interesting!
Show: Not exactly shows, but I guess Danganronpa or Your Turn To Die would be a fun start, ahaha.
Character: Kai Satou or Sei Satou? (Though this one is a little unfair, since Kai has so much more screentime and impact in the main story, unless you wanna count Ranger with Sei 😅)
Pairing: I don't often get to ask about Demon Slayer, so here's one. Shinobu and Giyu, or Mitsuri and Iguro?
Anything: As for which one you prefer more; whether it be writing it or reading it - Hurt/Comfort, or Fluff AUs?
REPO-NET THE GREAT!!! 💙 Oh my gosh, hi friend! I'm so excited to see that you're back. I hope you're doing wonderfully! Thank you so much for your ask. I really can't tell you how excited I am every time I see an ask from you. You're one of my favorite people, and your asks always make me smile! Please poke at my blog anytime. I am always, always happy to talk to you! 🥰
Tumblr media
I'd love to answer all of your questions. Thank you for sending them in! 😊 I apologize that it has taken me a bit to circle back with you. You came up with such wonderfully difficult questions (and impossible choices), so I really had to give them some thought before I responded. I really appreciate them though and enjoyed these a lot. My answers are below the cut. Thank you so much for the ask and for the playing the make me choose ask game!
(Warnings: Some spoilers for Your Turn To Die. Vague spoilers for Danganronpa & Demon Slayer)
Danganronpa or Your Turn To Die?
Out of all of your questions, I think this was the hardest for me to answer. I love them both so much so this is kind of the impossible question for me. 😅 There are things that I enjoyed more about Danganronpa than YTTD and things that I enjoyed more about YTTD than Danganronpa so it's hard to compare the two even though they are similar genres. I have waffled on it a lot and even asked my sister for a second opinion, but I think I will have to say Danganronpa just because the series is finished.
To be fair, I adore Your Turn To Die. It's riveting and compelling with top-tier storytelling and characters, and as a whole, I think I enjoyed it even more than Danganronpa so far (which is saying a lot because the Danganronpa series is really amazing). However, while I expect YTTD to continue to be just as incredible as it has been, the last chapter isn't out yet, so I suppose there is the off chance that the story could stumble in its final act and have a disappointing ending. Whereas with Danganronpa, I just finished V3 (and the series) and thought it was really interesting. I liked the final game a lot more than I expected, and now that I have the whole story, I feel confident saying that though the Danganronpa canon of games does have some flaws (as everything does), it ultimately tells a very compelling and interesting story and contains some incredibly dynamic characters. What it did with its "antagonists" in UDG especially is one of the most interesting storytelling/narrative choices that I've ever seen. While there were some things that could have been executed better in the series and there is a certain macabre whimsy to the tone of the games that can be a bit hard to get used to at first, the series is so inventive, and I love it for being so different than everything else. Its ideas are solid, its themes are compelling and often make you think, and its characters are very distinctive, memorable, and (in many cases) endearing. Also, how could I ever vote against my children? ❤️💛💗💙
Kai Satou or Sei Satou?
(Warnings: YTTD Spoilers Ahead)
Ouch! This one hurts. I don't want to choose. 🙈 My heart says Sei, and here's why: my sister would say Kai in a heartbeat. He was her favorite character in the whole game, and Kai gets plenty of love and admiration from her so I feel like my love and admiration is less important. Poor Sei, on the other hand, has never been picked first for anything in his life. Even his own "father" preferred Kai to him which is genuinely very sad and tragic. His family issues aside, I think his brash and callous personality is also a little off-putting and isn't doing him any favors in the overall likability department. It is understandable to me that most people would likely choose Kai over Sei in this scenario since he is arguably more personable--just awkward upfront but the biggest softie when you get to know him.
The way I see it, what Kai has going for him is that you might think he is a misanthrope who can't stand company and just wants to be left alone only to find out that deep down he's actually just shy and awkward and wants friends. But with Sei, you might think he's a misanthrope who can't stand company and just wants to be left alone only to find out that deep down he actually is. And I will be perfectly honest with you, I love him for it. You go, Sei! 🧡 I'm only joking of course. After all, much, much deeper down Sei also wants friends and is deeply devoted to the select few people he has chosen to care about, but I have a hard time believing he cares about the opinions of the majority of the people of the world. He has "his people" and he loves them but to everyone else he is a misanthrope who can't stand company and just wants to be left alone. I can respect that, especially since he's pretty upfront and honest about it.
I know I'm roasting Sei a little bit (out of love, of course), but in all honesty, he really is one of my favorite characters in the series and my heart says choose him here even if it doesn't make logical sense, as you pointed out in your ask. I will own this. I will admit it. I am usually a logical, analytical spreadsheet person who can be kind of cynical, but there is a reason I got an emotion route on my first YTTD playthrough. I get really, really attached to my favorite characters, and I am really, really attached to Sei. He managed to have such a compelling story arc for such a tiny "little tree" (side character), and he fits perfectly in my "favorite character" alignment chart, so I'm a little biased. I have such a bleeding heart for the overachieving perfectionists with rough edges, brother issues, childhood trauma, inferiority complexes, and (secret) deep devotion and loyalty. It's an ongoing problem, and, naturally, I adopted Sei as one of my favorites right away (even though I knew his story would ultimately break my heart and it did). While I'll roast him to the end of time, I'll also be the first to defend him because he really did love his brother and deserved so much better than what he got.
I would be amiss if I didn't mention that I absolutely love Kai as a character as well, and yes, you are absolutely right that Kai had a much bigger role in and impact on the story than Sei. He really is one of the most influential characters in the game with his connection to the Chidouins, his laptop filled with game-changing (no pun intended) information, and his defiance against Asunaro serving as a catalyst for others to rise up against the death game. But, on the other hand, given Kai's backstory and how influential Sei was in Kai becoming who he is by the time we meet him in the canon, I think the argument could be made that Sei is also one of the most important characters since (arguably) Kai was only able to have that role and that impact in the story because of Sei and because of his sacrifice. Without Sei as the catalyst for Kai and his arc, Kai couldn't have been a catalyst for the other participants and their arcs. Sei's the real hero here, so I choose Sei (and am getting down off my soap box now 😂).
Shinobu x Giyu or Mitsuri x Iguro?
Oh my gosh, Repo! I had no idea you were also a Demon Slayer fan! That's awesome! I don't get a lot of Demon Slayer asks, so this was a very pleasant surprise. (Please feel free to ask about it any time if you're so inclined). 💕 I'm not sure if you've read the manga, seen the anime, or both so I'll try to be as vague as possible as not to spoil anything for you, just in case.
I'll admit I like both of these. They're great dynamics! Shinobu is my favorite character in Demon Slayer, and her dynamic with Giyu is one of my favorites in the entire series (My sister used to joke that Shinobu and Giyu's friendship was actually my favorite character in Demon Slayer 😂). I don't mind Giyushino as a romantic pairing and have played around with it in an AU sense, but I think I prefer to think of them as platonic friends under most circumstances (and think they probably were just platonic friends in the canon) so I'm going with Iguro and Mitsuri on this one.
Obamitsu is probably my favorite romantic pairing in all of Demon Slayer. I was on 100% board with it from those socks 🧦 and only got more and more invested as time went on. It brought actual tears to my eyes by a certain point, and for someone who usually doesn't get into shipping in media, this was a huge thing for me. I had a friend of mine laughing once because she texted me and asked what I was doing and I had to tell her "listening to music and crying over a fictional relationship." 🙈 (I have an entire playlist devoted to them that I listen to on repeat when I'm feeling particularly feels-y about their relationship. It's one of my favorites I've ever made). I don't want to say too much about them in case of spoilers, but there's just something about the selflessness of their devotion and loyalty to each other, the sacrifices they were willing to make to protect each other and ensure the best for each other, and their bond of love built on a strong foundation of friendship that I found incredibly compelling. I was just so moved by how Iguro and Mitsuri both struggled with these deep insecurities as individuals and, in a certain way, thought of themselves as unlovable, but then they find each other, find someone who truly sees them-- flaws and insecurities and all--but still thinks they are wonderful and chooses to love them anyway. It was really beautiful--one of my favorite things about the series, if I'm being honest (even if it turned me into a weepy, emotional mess). 💕
As for which one you prefer more; whether it be writing it or reading it - Hurt/Comfort, or Fluff AUs?
(Warnings: YTTD Spoilers)
This is a tricky one because these are probably my favorite genres when it comes to fanfictions (both for reading and writing). I think it depends on the fandom and also on the characters involved as well as my mood. Sometimes I just want good times, happiness and shenanigans for my favorite characters and want to imagine the bad times never happened to them, but on the other hand, I think the hurt/comfort genre in general is much more cathartic to me personally than an AU where everyone lives and/or everything is fine and the bad stuff never happened.
While I want good things for all the characters I love, sometimes I feel like I'm forcing them into a fluff AU or that such an AU would change who they are too much, if that makes sense? A lot of times the tragedies that a character has suffered in their life had an integral role in shaping who they are. Like I was saying about Kai for instance. I firmly believe that losing Sei, especially losing Sei the way he did, was one of the things that gave him the courage to stand up against Asunaro in the end. In very simple terms, I think, he grew to see Sara as a little sister and couldn't bear the thought of Asunaro taking another sibling away from him. While I can definitely have a little fun imagining a fluffy shenanigans world where Asunaro didn't even exist and the Satou brothers work together in a bakery owned by Mai for instance, I think there's something about a Fluff AU that feels a little cheap to me, like that's not really Kai and Sei so it doesn't really fix anything, whereas with a quality hurt/comfort story, the actual lived experiences (the trauma, the grief, the suffering ect.) of the characters involved is acknowledged and validated, but the characters find the hope and healing necessary to move forward to a brighter future.
I personally take much more comfort in that than in imagining a world where the tragedy never happened in the first place, and I think I write more stories in that vein of hurt/comfort than I do fluffy pieces or I sometimes figure out a way to combine them, like with the Dad Nagisa story where there's that bittersweet twinge in there that all this fluff and this happy ending is deserved after everything he has been through. I think overall I like hopeful endings, and for the characters I love most, I want them to reach a place where they are on the other side of the most tragic aspects of their lives and yes, there might always be a wound there and there is nothing that the future could bring that would make all that pain they went through okay, but I want them to reach that place where they know and they get to experience that there is something better, something brighter waiting for them on the other side of something so terrible. I want to use my fanfictions to give the characters hope that tragedy isn't the end of their story.
I love the same things in the fanfictions I read though I am way less particular about the fanfictions that I read than I am with the ones I write. I'm a pretty tough critic of my own writing and much more particular when I choose what to write about versus choosing what to read 😅, and most of the time I filter stories by character or relationship (whether platonic or romantic) rather than by genre. Looking back on some of my all-time favorite fanfictions I've ever read though, most of them had some of those more hopeful, hurt/comfort elements to them, so perhaps Hurt/Comfort really does win the day!
That said, stumbling upon a well-written, cotton candy fluff piece can absolutely make my day and have me grinning ear to ear and squealing at my computer screen, so I'll never deny the absolute joy that fluff can bring either. I guess this really is just another tough choice to end a series of tough choices. 😅
Thank you so much for such wonderful questions that really made me think and for listening to all of my ramblings. Cheers & much love to you, friend! 💕

A Crisis Has Already Begun… We Just Don’t Know It Yet
Let’s address an elephant in the room: the rapidly expanding federal debt. Each annual deficit raises the total debt and forces the Treasury to issue more debt, in hopes someone will buy it.
The US government ran a $343 billion deficit in the first two months of fiscal 2020 (October and November), and the 12-month budget deficit again surpassed $1 trillion. Federal spending rose 7% from a year earlier while tax receipts grew only 3%.
No problem, some say, we owe it to ourselves, and anyway people will always buy Uncle Sam’s debt. That is unfortunately not true.
Foreign Treasury Buyers Are Turning Away
The foreign buyers on whom we have long depended are turning away, as Peter Boockvar noted:
Foreign selling of US notes and bonds continued in October by a net $16.7b. This brings the year-to-date selling to $99b with much driven by liquidations from the Chinese and Japanese. It was back in 2011 and 2012 when in each year foreigners bought over $400b worth. Thus, it is domestically where we are now financing our ever-increasing budget deficits.
The Fed now has also become a big part of the monetization process via its purchases of T-bills which also drives banks into buying notes. The Fed's balance sheet is now $335b higher than it was in September at $4.095 trillion. Again, however the Fed wants to define what it's doing, market participants view this as QE4 with all the asset price inflation that comes along with QE programs.
It will be real interesting to see what happens in 2020 to the repo market when the Fed tries to end its injections and how markets respond when its balance sheet stops increasing in size. It's so easy to get involved and so difficult to leave.
Declining foreign purchases are, in part, a consequence of the trade war.
The dollars China and Japan use to buy our T-bills are the same dollars we pay them for our imported goods. But interest and exchange rates also matter. With rates negative or lower than ours in most of the developed world, the US had been the best parking place.
But in the last year, other central banks started looking for a NIRP exit. Higher rate expectations elsewhere combined with stable or falling US rates give foreign buyers—who must also pay for currency hedges—less incentive to buy US debt.
If you live in a foreign country and have a particular need for its local currency, an extra 1% in yield isn’t worth the risk of losing even more in the exchange rate.
I know some think China or other countries are opting out of the US Treasury market for political reasons, but it’s simply business. The math just doesn’t work.
Especially when President Trump is explicitly saying he wants the dollar to weaken and interest rates go even lower.
If you are in country X, why would you do that trade? You might if you’re in a country like Argentina or Venezuela where the currency is toast anyway. But Europe? Japan? China? The rest of the developed world? It’s a coin toss.
The Fed began cutting rates in July. Funding pressures emerged weeks later. Coincidence? I suspect not.
The Fed Started Monetizing Debt
It sure looks like, through QE4 and other activities, the Fed is taking the first steps toward monetizing our debt. If so, many more steps are ahead because the debt is only going to get worse.
As you can see from the chart below, the Fed is well on its way to reversing that 2018 “quantitative tightening.”
Luke Gromen of Forest for the Trees is one of my favorite macro thinkers. He thinks the monetization plan will get more obvious in early 2020.
Those that believe that the Fed will begin undoing what it has done since September after the year-end “turn” are either going to be proven right or they are going to be proven wrong in Q1 2020. We strongly believe they will be proven wrong. If/when they are, the FFTT view that the Fed is “committed” to financing US deficits with its balance sheet may go from a fringe view to the mainstream.
Both parties in Congress are committed to more spending. No matter who is in the White House, they will encourage the Federal Reserve to engage in more quantitative easing so the deficit spending can continue and even grow.
The next recession, whenever it happens, will bring a $2 trillion+ deficit, meaning a $40+ trillion-dollar national debt by the end of the decade, at least $20 trillion of which will be on the Fed’s balance sheet. (My side bet is that in 2030 we will look back and see that I was an optimist.)
Sometime in the middle to late 2020s, we will see a Great Reset that profoundly changes everything you know about money and investing. Crisis isn’t simply coming. We are already in the early stages of it.
I think we will look back at late 2019 as the beginning. This period will be rough but survivable if we prepare now. In fact, it will bring lots of exciting opportunities.

New York Times best seller and renowned financial expert John Mauldin predicts an unprecedented financial crisis that could be triggered in the next five years. Most investors seem completely unaware of the relentless pressure that’s building right now. Learn more here.

The Sky is Falling...Not!
The death of the U.S. economy and stock market have been greatly exaggerated.
Our biggest concern remains business and consumer confidence. They both could be hurt by the dire predictions made by pundits/media bombarding us with negative sound bites 24/7 despite the majority of data pointing to the contrary!  Yes, the U.S economy has slowed, but don’t forget our economy is being hit by a GM strike, Boeing’s Max disruption, trade conflicts and politics.
Don’t listen to Chicken Little. The sky is not falling.  Focus instead on the preponderance of data points that support continued, albeit slower growth, for the quarters ahead. We recognize how difficult it is to invest successfully in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) global environment but focus instead on long term investing in great companies with superior leadership selling below long-term intrinsic value.  Stop trading on every sound bite as that is the recipe for failure.
It was amazing how quickly the pundits began predicting a recession in the U.S next year after the September Manufacturing Report came out October 1. Is anyone really surprised that our manufacturing sector has continued to weaken? Don’t fret as the manufacturing sector is only 10% of U.S GNP while the consumer/government comprise nearly 90%.  We have been hearing for months how the slowdown in manufacturing and trade will hurt hiring. Yes, it has, but to a small degree as we added over 136,000 new jobs in September; average hourly earnings are still increasing near 3% with inflation running beneath 2%; the unemployment rate continues to drop especially amongst minorities; the average workweek and overtime have not changed; and there remains over 7 million, yes 7 million, job opening in the U.S. Does that sound like a bad backdrop for continued growth in consumer spending in the months ahead? And add the fact that governments will increase spending over the next two years by several hundred billion dollars and we have a very accommodative Fed.  Does that sound like a formula for a recession?
We have seen no reason to change our thesis that the U.S economy will slow over the next year but still grow around 2% in real terms. That is not a recession!
On the other hand, we are maintaining a pessimistic view towards growth outside the U.S, including a sharp slowdown in China, unless there are major changes in fiscal, trade and regulatory policies. The WTO lowered its forecast for global trade again last week to only 1.2% in 2019, down from its forecast of 2.6% in April. We believe that their prediction of a pick-up in growth in 2020 to 2.7% is way too high without any trade deals, fiscal stimuluses and regulatory reforms. We continue to avoid investing in countries where exports/manufacturing are the keys to growth. However, we will look at the consumer, healthcare and services sectors, on the other hand, in these countries where there is earnings growth and substantial dividends. Remember that there are negative interest rates in many of these regions/countries like the Eurozone and Japan.
The bottom line is that we still find the U.S market undervalued today. We used the market weakness last week to upgrade the quality of our holdings, as all stocks got hit indiscriminately, without changing our net exposure.
Let’s look at the key data points reported last week that support/detract from our view that the U.S economy is in fine shape while weakness continues abroad:
The United States
Clearly the key set of numbers that we looked at last week revolved around the consumer which is the key factor supporting our view that the U.S economy will sustain growth near 2%. We already mentioned the employment report which clearly paint a goldilocks picture as the numbers were not great, but just about right to support continued easing by the Fed over the foreseeable future. Lower interest rates will help the interest sectors of our economy namely autos and housing which continue to do better than expected. In fact, the auto industry is still running at a 17 million annualized rate while housing has picked up and could do even better if there was more supply. Nothing wrong with being supply constrained.
Investors focused last week on the weakness in the September Manufacturing ISM report and slowdown in the services gauge. Specifically, the Manufacturers PMI fell to 47.8, down 1.3 points from August; new orders index rose slightly to 47.3; the production index declined to 47.3; the employment index fell to 46.3; the inventories index declined to 46.9; and the exports index fell slightly while the import index rose. Clearly demand contracted, consumption fell and inputs were weak. Global trade was mentioned as the single key factor hurting manufacturing, A strong dollar is NOT helping.
While the more important services index did fall to a 3-year low in September, it still stood at 52.6, which means positive growth. The HIS Markit services index also remained above 50 in September. Chain store retail sales have accelerated to a near 6% gain in September.
While we do not expect the impeachment proceeding against Trump to go anywhere, clearly it has stopped the government from moving forward on any legislation which unfortunately could include the trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Throw all the bums out unless they put the people of this country ahead of themselves. Bernie Sanders heart issues clearly help Elizabeth Warren, which in turn, may help Trump’s reelection chances. Don’t forget that Trump needs a strong economy and stock market to get re-elected.  Stay tuned to this key event which will impact investing next year.
China
President Xi’s speech last Tuesday commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule was no surprise as he mentioned many times that no force could sway China’s future development, peacefully. Clearly, he considers Hong Kong and Macao part of China forever.
We remain hopeful that China and the U.S can reach a trade truce next week postponing any additional tariffs. If so, an initial deal will include major purchases by China of our agricultural products along with a schedule for additional meetings to resolve issue by issue.  Don’t forget the more time it takes to reach a trade deal; the more time companies have to shift their supply lines outside of China damaging the potential of China 2025.
The Eurozone
Europe’s manufacturing sector continues to spiral downward as the September PMI fell to 45.7 indicating the steepest downturn in manufacturing in over seven years. The region’s downturn was led by deteriorating conditions in Germany where the PMI hit a 10-year low. Clearly concerns over Brexit, the effects on trade by the U.S- China trade war and the inability to reach a trade deal with the U.S all weigh against business/consumer confidence in the region. Eurozone CPI slowed to less than 1% in September raising fears of deflation.
It’s hard to fathom why Germany has not loosened its own purse strings yet while also not permitting other countries in the Eurozone to do the same. The WTO ruling against Airbus does not help the situation. Hopefully there will be progress on a trade deal with the U.S when both sides meet next month. Stay tuned!
Japan
Can you believe that Japan went forward raising the retail sales tax to 10% from 8% on October 1s? It’s hard to fathom even though the government tried to partially offset the added tax by increasing domestic stimulus by $18.55 billion. The Japanese Manufacturing PMI contracted to 48.9 in September, a new low for the year. The slowdown on global trade has hit Japan hard and future prospects remain bleak.
India
India’s Reserve Bank is forecasting that India will grow around 6% in 2019, a multi-year low. We believe that this forecast is overly optimistic as it means that growth will accelerate to around 7% in the second half of the year which is unlikely as overall demand only rose marginally in September hurt by almost no growth in exports and employment. The government has added fiscal stimulus by cutting taxes and boosting spending while repo rates have been cut too. Hopefully these moves will stimulate growth later in the year into 2020.
Investment Conclusions
We are maintaining our view that there is no place like home. The U.S advantage over the rest of the world is that our economy is dominated by consumer and government spending, not manufacturing and trade. The dollar has remained strong as the interest rate differential has only widened over the last few weeks such the inbound capital flows remain huge. Our Fed has more arrows left in its quiver to lower rates and begin enlarging its balance sheet unlike the ECB and BOJ which are virtually frozen to do more at this time. While Japan has little leeway to increase fiscal stimulus due to its huge debt to GNP ratio, Germany and the rest of the Eurozone can loosen its purse strings to stimulate growth. How much worse can their economic outlook get before they act?  We expect some movement in the Eurozone on fiscal stimulus, trade and regulatory reform before year end as the consequences of not moving are too dire for them. China still has room to move but no trade deal will be a bigger and bigger drag on growth the longer the conflict goes on.
Clearly the sky is not falling in the United States as the experts/pundits/Democrats may want you to think. Our market continues to fight against a wall of worry creating tremendous investment opportunities for the patient investor. Don’t forget that well over 65% of the S & P companies are yielding above the 10-year treasury with the prospects of additional dividend hikes ahead as corporations are generating record free cash flow. By the way, corporate and individual refinancing now exceed $1 billion over the last 3 weeks and is growing rapidly putting more cash into the consumers’ pockets and reducing interest costs/boosting profits and cash flow for corporations. Not bad!
Our portfolios are concentrated in technology, consumer nondurables, cable with content, utilities, financials, global industrials/capital goods, airlines, retail with a focus on housing and many special situations. We own no bonds and are flat the dollar.

Progress Report #52
It's been awhile posting something like this in a while. So, while I am on vacation and taking on a job (so I get some cash to upgrade my laptop), I worked on a few things on the game. It's not much, due to work (although, it winded it down this week I'm writing this) but I was able to do some improvements (including finally moving to .NET Core).
Northbridge Boost and .NET Blues
After Preview 7 of .NET Core 3 was released, I started moving Northbridge over to this version. This was a technical necessity since .NET Core had a vastly improved Just-In-Time compiler (the JIT Compiler is used when it's necessary to use code) and the option to ship a copy of the framework, to make it easier for me to adopt features new to it. Alongside this, Preview 6 added even more features that I'd like to implement. The two features I refer to are Ready2Run images and Trimming. This is gonna get technical, so I'll try to make this short and sweet:
Ready2Run is, essentially, creating an image of native code and embed it to the binaries. It's like NGEN, but it's done by me ahead of time. This is great since I don't need to smash my head, figuring out how to use NGEN in cases where I couldn't automate this. So, everyone can enjoy better performance.
Trimming is... well… removing libraries from the local copy of Core to save space. Since Core itself is about 100MB, saving some space from it, is nice. Sadly, there's an issue where I can't use both in Northbridge because it causes crashes. But looking at the WPF GitHub repo (yes, Windows Presentation Foundation is open-source now), they are working on it, updating the toolset as well, so there is a light in the tunnel there.
After about an hour of work, the transition went smoothly, which is rather good. Aside from waiting the WPF library being finalized (maybe in August or September), I am going to start shipping builds once I polish up the game as well. I am aware that Core 3 is still in preview, but they gave the go-live status, so as long as there aren't any issues, it's A-OK. Although I wonder if I should still use the installer project since it's no longer necessary to check if .NET Framework 4.6.2 is installed and then install it. If you have some time, please take part in the survey here. It would help me decide if I should bother making the game's installer.
Oh, and as a bonus, I posted a video that shows how I migrated to .NET Core 3. If you are interested, you can see it here:
youtube
Tune-ups and new content
Of course, the game also got some changes under the hood. For one, shop discounts are now active. The idea here is this: You take on guild missions and you receive hunter or bounty coins. You use those coins in exchange of upgrading both the hunter and the bounty licensee. Both of them provide bonuses to you, should you partake and complete them. For this one, I'll focus on the hunter license. Upgrading the hunter license will give you discounts to items, weapons, and armor. The higher the license's rank, the better the discount. It's a rather nice way of saving up for better weapons and/or getting more items.
Tumblr media
Now, obviously, I need to add more missions to make it worthwhile for you. And I am working on it as we speak. I have some ideas for missions for you to take on, and they'll come in in an upcoming Beta Build. And some tweaks to the combat system, but I'll talk about them at a later post.

I don’t have the energy to properly effortpost about it right now, but a little while ago I got around to reading the paper “Opening the black box of Deep Neural Networks via Information” and it blew my mind a bit.
The overall picture it gave me is that deep neural nets, when trained with SGD, learn by first memorizing a lookup table for the training data, and then forgetting everything about the table keys that isn’t necessary to uniquely identify the table values.
Early on, the last layer encodes the requested value but also the whole key, like a dictionary {k: (k, v)}.  This then gets lossier and lossier for the first part of the tuple without getting lossier for the second, so the end result is like {k: (irrelevant noise, v)}.  At the very end of the network, the fully-connected-softmax or whatever scoops up the “v” part and ignores the “irrelevant noise” part.  Since the last layer now no longer has the information necessary to reconstruct the key, and since this loss of information happened over a long (”deep”) series of lossy steps rather than in a single lossy step of table lookup, we can hope that it’s now learned something meaningful and generalizable about the relationship of these keys to their values.
So, during training, they overfit first, and then regularize themselves.  In itself, not too shocking.
But here’s the kicker: the regularization part happens specifically because of SGD.  Once the gradients are small enough, they’re basically applying a random diffusion to the weights, and so we end up with a neural net that is “as random/generic as possible,” conditional on getting the answers right on the training data.
The authors argue that network depth helps here, because it speeds up the diffusion process.  Thus, the great success people have had with deep networks trained by SGD is attributable to “depth + SGD” being a synergetic combination, not by deep networks being an inherently great space of models and SGD being merely “good enough” as a way to descend loss functions in this space.
The main limitation of this paper is its reliance on a single invented data set for its results.  I get the sense they did this to make it possible to estimate mutual information well enough to get anywhere.  They do have a github repo where you can do the same analysis in other cases, which is neat although I haven’t tried it.

Hello yello, it's me again, hope you're having a wonderful day so far! If it's not a bother, could I get a response from you about Nagisa in the numbers ask game?
10 and 23 since those are his birthday numbers. If it's no problem, I'd love to hear about 2 as well. Thanks again for everything you've written and done!
Hi friend! Aww you're so sweet. 🥰 I really should be thanking you for all the great Nagisa and Warriors of Hope content and for your ask. I would absolutely love to talk about my son, Nagisa! 💙 (I love that you picked his birthday numbers too! That's great!) Thank you so much for the ask, and I hope you're having a wonderful day as well. Take care and cheers!!😊

Questions from this Character Ask Game
Answers and Headcanons are below the cut. (Warnings: Spoilers for UDG and vague discussion of childhood trauma & abuse)
2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you've sent me a character I don't like)
This is kind of a complicated answer because as my sister would say I "did not experience Danganronpa like a normal person" 😂 so I apologise in advance for the ramblings. My younger sister was super into Danganronpa especially Ultra Despair Girls and when she told me about it (and suggested I play UDG), she actually told me a little about Nagisa and that she thought I would really like his character. (A/N: I have quite the collection of favourite characters who are high-strung, overachieving perfectionists). I usually don't play a lot of video games, but I was curious so I decided to compromise and read the manga for UDG (which definitely gave me a different perspective on things than my sister, I think, because there were some changes...but that's another story). Since I kind of went into the story with more information (from my sister) and the feeling I would probably end up liking his character, I think I had a more positive view of Nagisa much earlier on than I would have otherwise.
The big moment I started really liking him though was probably when he swooped in to protect Kotoko which was a much bigger and more dramatic thing in the manga than in the game. [A/N: There was definitely a bit of confusion there because my sister was really perplexed by why in my mind Nagisa and Kotoko were such close friends whereas in my sister's mind (from the game) she was much closer friends with Masaru. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of Masaru in the manga so I didn't really start to like him nearly as much until I played the game, but I digress...] Anyway... I'll include some of the frames just for reference.

So yes, Nagisa gets his heroic moment where he protects his friend and then he tries to help Komaru and Toko out of the city. If that isn't enough, he then starts to go into his backstory, and everything just clicks that he really is such a good kid at heart, he's just been corrupted and manipulated due to Junko (and Monaca) exploiting his trauma and taking advantage of the fact he was broken, vulnerable, and starving for love. He suddenly becomes a very tragic character, and I just wanted to adopt and protect him. My poor boy. He's been my son ever since.
And I will say it was such a fun perspective to go into the UDG game already liking his character because it was so exciting any time he and the other little hope warriors showed up. My sister was making fun of me (in good fun) when we were playing because I was very afraid cautious of the Monokumas (A/N: I'm not usually a fan of shoot 'em up games) and wouldn't never run (because you can't aim the weapon & run at the same time), so I was really just constantly shuffling around slowly, hiding behind things, and literally jumping during the jump scares. (A little pathetic, sure, but I was trying to survive here). But then we get to Chapter 4 when the objective is protecting Nagisa, and it completely cured me of my animatronic-robot-bear-phobia. I went full "Mama Bear" mode (no pun intended) running around destroying those things left and right like "Not My Son!!" My sister teases me about it to this day and says, "I'm so glad you finally learned how to run." 😂 Good times.
10. Describe the character in one sentence
This one is a bit difficult for me since I tend to be really wordy and also because I'm imagining Nagisa trying to describe himself in one sentence and I really don't know if he'd be able to do it--he'd have to fight that tendency to write a whole dissertation with subheadings and a table of contents. 😅 I'm going to have to fight that too, but I'll try my best...
Nagisa is wise beyond his years and an old-soul: highly intelligent, responsible, and conscientious, and though he can be perfectionistic, overachieving, and hard on himself and is burdened with deep internal pain from a childhood of abuse, he cares deeply for his friends and genuinely wants to make the world better so that other children don't have to suffer in the way that he did (he is misguided on this point, but his culpability is diminished given that he was a severely traumatized child who was taken advantage of and manipulated into criminal activity when he was vulnerable and he feels genuine guilt and remorse for what he did).
[A very long sentence 😅]
23. Future headcanon
I really want good things for Nagisa in the future and would love to see him reach a healthy, more well-adjusted place when he grows up. I know it's basically the apocalypse, but I really like to think that he and the other Warriors of Hope do eventually get the therapy they so desperately need and actually get to heal after all of the horrible and traumatic things they've all been through. In terms of more specific headcanons here are a few:
When they are all young professionals/working adults, Nagisa, Jataro, and Masaru are roommates which is often a bit of a comical arrangement since they are really so vastly different as people despite sharing a living space. Nagisa can be a little intense when it comes to keeping the apartment clean and organized, for instance. (To be fair, Masaru and Jataro are both kind of slobs if left to their own devices). However, he wants things to be fair and for everyone to do their part so he devises a chore chart to track who is supposed to clean what that week. Jataro and (especially) Masaru tend to act kind of like big kids, so Nagisa resorts to having incentives (like paying to get them ice cream) if they do all their chores. [Bonus: Masaru often complains to Kotoko about the chore chart, and she thinks it's kind of ridiculous à la 'You're a grown man--why don't you just buy your own ice cream?' but Masaru insists it tastes better when someone else is paying for it. 😂]
Nagisa eventually earns a Ph.D and works for Future Foundation. (As much as his friends like to teasingly refer to him as "Dr. Nagisa," it actually takes a while for them to all adjust to other people calling him "Dr. Shingetsu" all the time). Nagisa takes a lot of pride in his work developing and implementing air filtration systems worldwide. He is always very excited and enthusiastic whenever he talks about it, but his work is so complicated that none of his friends are entirely certain what it is he does exactly. He quickly rises through the ranks at Future Foundation until he works under the direct supervision of Togami who thinks he's very a conscientious employee and trusts him enough to put him in charge of several important projects. Since Nagisa still struggles with his perfectionism, he often ends up working long hours and has to fight a lot of self-imposed stress. His friends often take it upon themselves to remind Nagisa to take care of himself, and they periodically try to get him out of the apartment to do fun things. Nagisa's idea of fun, however, would be much more akin to staying home and relaxing with a good book.
I'm going to take some inspiration from you and also have a few headcanons about Older Nagisa as a dad since I would absolutely love to see him settle down and have a family of his own one day, when he is ready.
Nagisa's family is the most important thing in the world to him and his children are his pride and joy in life. He strives to be the best father he can, and he is incredibly devoted and attentive though he does have a tendency to worry about his children very much. When his son takes after him with similar worries, self-imposed stress, and perfectionism, for instance, Nagisa is very concerned, and it hits him particularly hard since the last thing he wanted was for his child to have the same kinds of burdens he does. However, he helps his son through that and reassures him that he has a father who loves him regardless of his successes or failures. It is incredibly important to Nagisa that his children never doubt that his love for them is unconditional and will never need to be earned by living up to any expectations--he will love and support his kids no matter what and just wants them to try their best.
Despite having several children in the house, Nagisa's home is not particularly chaotic and loud since most of his kids aren't particularly rambunctious. His eldest daughter has a big personality, however, and often gets Nagisa to play all kinds of dress up games and tea parties with her. She also often asks him to style her hair into little antenna like his, and though he doesn't quite understand the appeal, he tries his best as hairdresser.
His eldest daughter's more happy-go-lucky and generally upbeat and cheerful personality sometimes causes Nagisa to wonder if he and his friends may have been like his little girl if not for the abuse, and the thought breaks his heart a little. His younger daughter is much more quiet and pensive than her sister and was adopted by Nagisa and his family after being rescued from an abusive situation. Coming from the background that he did, Nagisa is very sensitive to his daughter's trauma as she slowly begins to heal and is welcomed into the family.
When Nagisa's kids are very, very little they love to play with their dad's hair antenna and his reading glasses (which he eventually has from squinting at his work from hours on end).
Nagisa tries his best to be a very involved and attentive father who always makes sure to spend time with his family despite his busy schedule. One of his favorite activities for his family to do together is reading aloud to his children before he tucks them in at night.
