I regret that I haven’t been able to write the way I want to.  I need to be *in* that headspace and immersed in the emotions of the characters, and that hasn’t been feasible with the issues at home.  Drawing is calming for me, though, and I can pick up and doodle when I have a free minute.  This is my first digital piece ever, “Not My Sister,” my visual take on what Mulder sees in my horror fic.  I have always wanted to learn digital, but wasn’t sure about it.  I still have a lot to figure out.  Thanks for looking at and critiquing the work.
and here’s to days coming when I actually have hours to write.

You know when I was a kid, I had this ritual. I closed my eyes before I walked into my room, cause I thought that one day when I opened them my sister would be there. Just lying in bed, like nothing ever happened. You know I'm still walking into that room, everyday of my life.

Philes’ Xmas Advent Calendar Prompt Day 12: family dinner. Tagging @today-in-fic @txf-prompt-box @only-txf-fanart
Set first season, after EBE. Scully calls Mulder to invite him over for Thanksgiving dinner.
Well-Intentioned Phone Call
“Just call and ask him to join us, Dana,” Melissa said, “I’m a sure Mom and Dad won’t mind. The more the merrier right now. And besides, we’d all like to meet your new partner and learn more about your line of work.”
Scully glanced over towards the landline phone in the kitchen from the family room couch. A part of her felt guilty for confessing to Melissa her concern that Mulder was spending Thanksgiving alone. He had mentioned he and his family hardly celebrated the holidays after Samantha’s disappearance. The turkey had a couple more hours to roast, which would give Mulder more than enough time to make it to the Scully family dinner in Annapolis.
Before she could stop herself, Scully dialed his cell phone using her parents’ corded landline phone. She twirled the phone cord nervously around her left index finger until—
“Hello?” His voice sounded unsure on the other end. She heard laughter and some commotion in the background.
“Mulder? Hey, it’s me, Scully.”
“Oh! Hey!” He replied in a surprised tone. “I don’t recognize this number.”
“I know. It’s my parents phone.”
“Who’s calling?!” she heard someone yell in the background.
“It’s none of your business, Langly!” Mulder shouted back then murmured on the phone, “Hold on, Scully. Let me move to a quieter area.”
“Leave him alone, Langly,” a soft-spoken voice chimed in.
“Shut up, Byers!”
“Is it your chickadee?!” a different voice asked.
“Not my chickadee, Frohike. It’s Scully,” he responded as she heard rustling movements.
“The scrumptious Agent Scully?” Frohike asked.
“Melvin,” Mulder’s harsh tone a warning to his friend. He finally found a quiet place. Scully was smiling over the phone, amused at what transpired. His voice softened, concerned, “Hey, what’s up? Is something wrong?”
“Uh no, nothing’s wrong,” she answered shyly. She felt relieved to know he was having a “friends-giving” with his odd band of friends. “I, uh, just wanted to wish you a ‘Happy Thanksgiving.’ I forgot to do so before I left the office.”
“Oh,” Mulder half-snorted, “um ‘Happy Thanksgiving,’ Scully. I’ll see you back on Monday?”
“Yup. See ya!” she answered a little too enthusiastically.
“Later, Scully.” She could hear his smile over the phone. She heard him yell “You dickwads! I’m going to strangle the both of you!” before he ended his call.
“Well?” Melissa asked expectantly when Scully returned to the family room. Scully shook her head smiling.
“He’s with good company.”

Everywoman is a multifandom gift exchange for fanfic and/or art which is focused on female characters. Nominations end Friday June 1: Tag Set. The nomination form is just a click away. You can nominate four fandoms, eight characters or groups of characters, in each. You can nominate crossovers, too.
Schedule: Noms: May 25th - June 1st Cleanup: June 2nd - June 3rd Signups: June 4th - June 11th Assignments out by: June 14th Assignments due: July 13th Final pinch hits due: July 19th Stories revealed: July 21st Authors revealed: July 28th
More details at the Everywoman 2018 FAQ
This is open to artists and writers. You do not need to have a Dreamwidth account to participate. You do need to have an account at AO3 to sign up. I don’t know what the wait time is for an account right now but I do have some account codes. Let me know if you need one.
Signups – Requests & Offers
Requests: There is a required minimum of three distinct fandoms requested. You may request up to ten fandoms.
Offers: There is a required minimum of four distinct fandoms offered, you may offer up to ten fandoms.
Fic/Art Requirements
Fic is required to be at least 500 words, fanart must be a nice sketch at minimum. No lined paper, no photomanips.
Socks are allowed, just don't cause trouble with them.
It’s a short time frame to work in, but 500 words? No problem. The X-Files is already nominated but so many fandoms with great female characters are missing. I can and will nominate Fringe, Timeless, Parks and Recreation, plus one fandom tbd. Maybe The Americans if I’m not gutted by the finale on Wednesday.
The Dreamwidth community is small so I’m signal-boosting in the hope that more people will (1.) make nominations and (2.) sign up to write and create art about female characters.
In case you’re wondering, the poster is made from the cover of the first issue of Deviations: The X-Files. Yes, it’s an X-Files canon AU with two female leads. I’d nominate it if I thought anyone but me would write it or request it.
In a world where young Fox Mulder was abducted by aliens and never returned, another Mulder takes up the crusade against deception! Meet Samantha Mulder, a believer who won’t stop until she finds out the truth about her brother!

Philes’ Xmas Advent Calendar Prompt Day 20: nutcracker. Tagging @today-in-fic @txf-prompt-box @only-txf-fanart
Set some time in Season 1, when M & S partnership is still new. Scully finds a ballet program and Mulder tells her a story.
The Program
Mulder returned to the office and found Scully behind the desk looking at the cork board pinned with post its of his various contacts and photos of UFO sightings. He stood by the door as he observed her continue to study the office by moving her attention to the shelf that held a photo of him and Samantha. She reached for something next the photo and pulled it out to look at it. That was when he cleared his throat and greeted her, startling her in the process.
“Oh! Morning!” Scully responded. He could make out a faint blush forming on her cheeks. “Sorry, I was just curious to see what was on this wall…” she looked down at what he knew was a ballet program of The Nutcracker he had placed on the shelf a lifetime ago. Mulder casually walked towards the desk.
“It’s fine, Scully. We share the office. It makes sense for you to figure out what exactly is in it.” He nodded at the program. “Go ahead and open it.” Scully opened the program to the first page. He perched himself on the corner of the desk nearest to the filing cabinet as he waited for her to read the handwritten note and the dedication for that year’s performance of The Nutcracker. She looked at him slightly wide-eyed, a curious yet shy expression on her face.
“The program you’re holding was the first and only time I received something from a victim’s family while I was working in VCS. Usually with profiling, you don’t make contact with the victims’ families. You only focus on catching the killer. Lori Wolfram was kidnapped on her way to the ballet studio not too far from where she lived. There was a serial killer that was roaming the south side of the city, but Lori was his first victim from the northern end. It didn’t fit the MO the local law enforcement formed, so they requested a profiler to be sent in.
I was a cocky bastard back then, still considered the Golden Boy, when I took on this case. The victims’ bodies would be found a week after they were kidnapped, mutilated and tossed into a dumpster as if they were yesterday’s trash. I formed a new profile for the killer, pinpointing his profession to be a freelance artist based on the specks of dried paint mixed in with the blood found on all his victims. It turned out the killer was commissioned a mural project on the south end of the city nearby a city park. He was recently commissioned a project on the north end of the city. By this time, it had been day 5 since the Lori’s disappearance when the police tracked the killer’s home address and his studio. They found her barely alive at the art studio and rushed her to the ER. She didn’t make it obviously.”
Mulder reached for the program, taking it away from Scully to re-read the handwritten note from Lori’s family thanking him for all his efforts. “Lori had just turned 14. She was set to perform as Clara.”
He felt Scully’s hand on his back, patting him in consolation as she perched herself next to him “You did good, Mulder. You caught him before he could stalk his next victim. Lori’s family had a chance to say goodbye to her.”
He nodded biting his lower lip, fighting back regret and disappointment.
“I liked how you said you were a cocky bastard back then.” Scully placed her hands on her lap. “Water cooler talk says you’re still one now.” He chuckled.
“Do you believe all that talk, Scully?” He looked over at her and caught the sincerity in her eyes. She smiled.
“No, I don’t.”
