Tell It To My Heart Taylor Dayne Released January 19, 1988 This is Taylor Dayne's debut album released in 1988 which contains 4 hit singles and has sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. The keyboards to the song "Tell It To My Heart'' are extremely catchy, and I actually like the drum machine on this song. The rest of the songs on side one really carry on her stellar vocal performance. Side Two is good, just need to pay more attention next spin around. I have owned this album since it's initial release back in 88. Heard the song on the radio and had to have it for playing music at events. Upon listening today, I have taken a real liking to her voice and appreciate her musical contributions to the dance floor! Vital Signs Survivor Released August 1984 This is Survivor's 5th studio album which introduces their new lead vocalist Jimi Jamison. The album reached number 16 on the Billboard Charts and is the bands 2nd most successful to date. If the band Air Supply were to ever become a rock band, this would be it. This album is great and it has many songs pertaining to relationships and love. I purchased this album on cassette when I was young and replaying this on vinyl today brings back many memories of playing this album over and over again. Starting off side one with the heavy prowess of the concert crowd pleaser "Stand Up & Shout" you knew this album would just rock your world. Greatest Hits 1974 - 78 Steve Miller Band Released November 1978 My generation grew up with some great music. One of the greatest bands I grew up listening to is The Steve Miller Band. Their hits actually spawned starting from the 70's all the way to the 80's. It was always an easy choice to have them on my playlist. Every song on this greatest hits album holds a special memory. For me that song would be Fry Like An Eagle, and yes that is correct. Any of you that know me will remember why it is Fry and not Fly. Desert Moon Dennis DeYoung Released 1984 This is the debut solo album release from former Styx member Dennis DeYoung. I owned this cassette version when it was released back in 84 but never really played it except for the song "Desert Moon". After listening to it in its entirety, I see why. Only a few exceptions of songs I liked. The song Fire, which is the Jimi Hendrix classic, is 'different', undecided if I like it or not. Desert Moon is still a great song, which is why I picked up this album a few years ago. Picture This Huey Lewis & The News Released January 29 1982 If you know about Huey Lewis & Lewis other than from Back To The Future, then you are a true fan. "Picture This" is the bands 2nd Studio Album and it contains their first top ten hit "Do You Believe In Love". I still hear this song almost every day because it is on the playlist at work. And when it comes on, I still like to belt it out loud and sing along. Great song, brings back memories of playing this song really loud while cruising around in my car with my buddy DJ. One night we must have played the song ten times in a row. Great times. The song was written by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Overall the rest of the album is fun and uplifting. Classic rock and roll music for those who like a little harmony, and some great guitar riffs. Freedom Of Choice Devo Released May 16 1980 So this is Devo's 3rd album and it contains the big hit "Whip It". I had this cassette tape growing up but really only listened to Whip It. After playing the whole album I get it. I think the songs are great, the vocals are ok, not too crazy about the phrasing of the songs but musically I like them. They are more electronic than say The Cars, but so much as say The B-52's. For me I think it is their use of the lead guitar in songs that win me over on this album. All American Boy Rick Derringer Released October 1973 I do not know anything about Rick Derringer. I came across this album when my friend Jim was off loading his record collection (yeah, that was quite a workout lugging all those boxes! Thanks!) This is a great album, the first song really grabs you and puts you on a rock and roll journey. I love many of the guitar riffs played throughout. How have I not really heard of this guy before? According to some research I did on this guy, he has an incredible music pedigree. He has worked with both Edgar and Johnny Winter, Cyndi Lauper, Steely Dan, and countless others. John Denver's Greatest Hits John Denver Released November 1973 I was just wondering, is folk music gone? Are there any current famous musical acts that still do folk music? If there is, I'm pretty sure they are influenced by John Denver. For many of us in my generation, John Denver music reminds us of days in school when they had music teachers singing and playing on the guitar. This was my early introduction to music. Since then, his music has always been played on radio or television. A few years ago, a few country music artists got together and covered "Take Me Home Country Roads", of course it was a beautiful tribute. Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables Dead Kennedys Released September 2 1980 This is the Dead Kennedy's debut album which is also listed in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and it is ranked as number 365 on the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". For any of you who know the song "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis, there is a cover of this song by Dead Kennedys. I had to double check my turntable speed to make sure I didn't accidentally leave on a faster rpm speed when I heard this version. I'm not really a fan of the band but enjoyed this version of Viva Las Vegas, it was a good laugh. White Sister (Debut Album) White Sister Released 1984 White Sister has always been one of my all time "underdog" bands of the 1980's. Anyone out there heard of them? Am I the only fan? I purchased the cassette tape when it was first released and I have worn out that tape over the decades. Side Two in particular got a lot of playtime. Favorite songs are "Promises'', "Just For You" and "One More Night". The album is fully laced with great keyboard tracks, great vocal harmonies, and notable guitar works. Still after almost 40 years, I'm still looking for this album on Compact Disc and also looking for their second album "Fashion By Passion". The record label EMI wanted the band to change their name because there was another band with the name sister in it at the time (Twisted Sister). They refused and the label did not back them for a tour to support the record.
