Shang Qinghua really does think that he is unlovable huh
He really thinks that he is of no value to anyone if he isn't making himself useful he will be disposed off and that will be it
He genuinely believes no would ever want him so he manipulate and posture as a lesser so to be seen as a necessary annoyance rather than the pest he believes himself to be
He hates all the work he has to do but he prefers exhaustion to the paranoia and anxiety that eat him up when he isn't showcasing his value
He is in a constant battle just to be acceptable rather than loved so he can just be in the presence of those who are dear to him
Like damn like father like son I can see where binghe got all his issues like airplane bro stop unloading it all on your OCs look you gave the poor dear anxiety

"the problem is men, not trans women!"
ok but what is a man? what is it about this group of people that makes them a problem? is it the identity of 'man' that's the problem? and if all men stopped identifying as men would the problem go away?

the other thing baru is always doing is like . simultaneously forgetting everyone around her has personal motives of their own AND assuming motive as applied to herself where there isn't any, like 'why would they send me a person who resembles me complexion-wise for this task? are they trying to get on my good side?' like maybe it's just a coincidence. a lot of things are. but because she's so paranoid she's always reading into every little detail assuming it has relevance while at the exact same time missing relevant details because they have to do with things and people that are not her

"If I was surprised at anything, it may have been that it seemed like people were less willing to let her make mistakes than they were with Aang."
I hate Bryke's guts, but the one thing I will agree with him (Bryan) on is this.
I've gotten heat from Aang stans for saying this, but for me Korra will always be a better written character for me. Not because Aang's childish and optimistic and naive or anything like that. That doesn't matter to me. Hell, it's not even for his actions during DOBS or EIP or Kataang. Sure, those things aren't great, but they aren't the issue with his character.
It's not about Aang's actions, it's about how Aang's actions are treated by the narrative.
This is nothing new obviously, I've said this before. Many times. Aang kissing Katara in EIP is treated as him messing up his chances with her, not because he forced something on her she didn't want. The kiss in DOBS doesn't even come up again in the show (and when it did in the comics, Aang blew up and nearly melted her face off so-). I've spoken enough about his holier-than-thou attitude in TSR too and how his message of forgiveness is perpetuated as the right one.
It's one thing that is 100% better in LOK; Korra is held accountable for her actions, by the narrative, the other characters, and herself. A big part of LOK is Korra acknowledging her actions and making the effort to change and be better.
A great counter to Aang repeatedly crossing boundaries with Katara is in Reunion when she warns Asami about trusting Hiroshi and Asami calls her out on giving unsolicited advice. Korra immediately backs off and tries to apologize when she sees that she upset her.
Now compare this to Aang's behavior in TSR or EIP.
And before anyone says it, I know Korra's older. I also know Asami reconnecting with her father is different than Katara wanting to kill Yon Rha. I get all of that.
But honestly? That doesn't matter to me. Because when you're talking about fictional characters- especially character progression and development for the protagonist- addressing flaws is important. Accountability is important. Especially when it comes to how they treat the people around them (love interests like Asami and Korra probably being the most important).
This is what solidifies Korra's character development as being better than Aang's for me.
However, I do think it's because of this framing (and the fact that she's a woman, but shh) that Korra gets more hate. Her flaws being addressed also means that they're constantly apparent. The audience is always aware of them. Whereas Aang's worse actions tended to be brushed over or excused. Or the context of those mistakes were maneuvered to make the audience feel bad for him instead of the one affected by his actions (EIP EIP EIP EIP).
So yes, Bryan, people were more willing to let Aang make mistakes because you and your bestie failed to actually address them

Casual ableist language is absolutely an issue worth addressing but maybe instead of focusing on people saying 'stupid' and 'idiot' we could look at how (non-psychotic) people throw around 'delulu' and then are shocked when people who have delusions talk about them, and people on YouTube and tiktok and really just in real life consistently using 'psychopath' and 'narcissist' as shorthand for 'evil person'

What would you say is the dumbest argument people have used against Zutara as a ship that you’ve seen/heard?
can i say all?
that isn't even a joke; in all the time i've spent in atla fandom, i've yet to see a convincing anti argument for why zutara shouldn't be canon. it's always [false claim entirely unsubstantiated by canon] [zuko/katara would "insert bad thing that is already very much present in their canon romances"] [zutara bad but zu.kka good because obviously being fruity is a magical fix-all cure] [some straight up racist/misogynistic bullshit].
that being said, the argument against zutara i personally find the dumbest is the idea that people only ship zutara because they find zuko hot and want to self-insert into katara.
even leaving aside the fact that it's not just straight women, or even primarily straight women who ship zutara (most zutara shippers i know are queer and many of those are acespec), or the blatant misogyny of assuming the only reason a ship could be popular amongst women is because they find the male lead attractive instead of using critical thinking skills... how on earth do you watch zuko and katara hug each other at sunset and see each other through their lowest moments and bond over their trauma and see zuko throw himself in front of fucking lightning for katara, and still think the only reason people could possibly want them to be together is because they find zuko hot?
besides, if i really wanted to self-insert there are already two other eligible female characters zuko is actually romantically involved with, both of whom have barely any character depth and development, and thus provide the perfect blank slates for self-insertion. picking katara, who doesn't even get to so much as kiss zuko, and who has a far more distinct and unmalleable personality than both jin and mai, makes not the slightest bit of sense - but then, that's probably too much to ask from zutara antis.

something about the central theme of shin soukoku being "am i worthy of living?" while for soukoku it's actually "is living worth it for me?" is so funny to me like skk said we gotta out-edge our kouhai's existential crisis
aka what happens when your self-esteem is rock-bottom versus what happens when your sense of self is bigger than god. don't get me wrong there's enough of self-hatred to pass around between skk but while they do blame their own inhumanity for why living is so painful, they also know they're the shit and so they turn to judge the worthiness of living (as a human) itself
which is also why dazai being sskk's mentor is so funny. if you think about it he's literally just their personal "person most worthy of living" mascot who doles out 'you did well's like band-aids for their issues. but there's always this disconnect because dazai can't empathise with them so he does nothing for the root of the problem and they have to fix it themselves through each other. which is hilarious because then
everyone: *comes at dazai for being ass at this mentorship thing*
dazai: have you considered our vibes don't match the central themes of our characters are incompatible?
(also there's no chuuya & sskk interaction in the main manga/LNs but if you consider what asagiri himself wrote for adaptations as canon-ish then his interaction with akutagawa has the exact same disconnect that dazai has. like you would think dazai just naturally has low empathy so chuuya would be better right? no. aku was on his usual 'i need dazai-san's approval to prove my worth' in the onsen drama cd and dead apple stageplay and the whole time chuuya's just '??????' not because he doesn't know aku is like that but he doesn't get it. it's even funnier in the DA stageplay because now chuuya suddenly needed aku to defeat rashoumon and get to dazai/the building but he doesn't know how to motivate him and so decided to just....copy dazai AKDJFJFKSSK like taunting aku by saying he doesn't understand dazai at all, calling him worthless without rashoumon??? i mean by the end he did sorta imply he didn't mean it to akutagawa and say dazai already approved of aku since this is chuuya after all, but it shows when it came down to it chuuya truly gets dazai and not at all akutagawa)

I headcanon vox as the sort of guy that treats animals better than he treats people idk why but I think it fits him
i respect u so much anon. personally i think vox has a thinly-veiled disdain for anything and anyone that isn't immediately useful to him, and not only do most people not register to him as having intrinsic value (vel & val being the only exceptions), if something can't serve him in some way he doesn't spare it a thought. i definitely think the impression we were given of him before s1 would support him having a soft spot for animals but as it stands i read him as much colder & cutthroat in canon -- he's a busy man, he has places to be and people to manipulate, he doesn't have time to indulge in fondness for barely-sentient creatures that can't be hypnotized into submission, and even if he wanted to, that's not the impression he wants people to have of him. it makes him look weak. however, i also posit that in life he was the type to argue vehemently against getting a pet and then unwillingly become that pet's favorite person, much to his chagrin (and secret pleasure)

i immediately deleted the ask i got because it's fucking braindead but im gonna post about it anyway.
if you have to start with "you CLEARLY only consume popular/recent media you need to watch unpopular/ancient media instead" and go on to detail why i'm wrong and why i should pry my eyes open like clockwork orange and force myself to watch fictional characters with zero established compatibility lick each other's necks to whatever the current iteration of shape of you is nowadays/was back then? you're actually stupid. like genuinely you're a dipshit full stop.
no the fuck i don't need to watch X Y Z or the sequel prequel spinoff. i dont need to do fucking anything that you insist i 'need' to force me into your blowhard bitch brigade full of self-fellating schmucks.
you ''need'' to sniff a flower and feel the wind on your face. bask in the dappled sunlight under a tree and eat some sliced fruit. jackass.

NyxNoct prompt!
“Do you ever think about us?”
Across This Life & The Next
Rating: T
Words: 2,234
Tags: Mindless Fluff, Romantic Fluff, Late Night Convos, Existentialism
Summary: “Ignore what I said. About other universes and all that. I’m just restless.”
“You are the most honest when you’re restless usually.” Nyx says, running a thumb over the knuckle of Noct’s pointer finger. “I don’t think it’s all that crazy, though.”
“You don’t?” Noct tilts his head on Nyx’s shoulder to look up at him.
Between the ocean and the stars, Noctis and Nyx ponder the concept of lifetimes beyond their current one.
(Notes: This prompt has been collecting dust for actual YEARS, but better late than never right?)
--
“Do you ever think about us?”
Nyx pauses in his steps, tilting his head to one side and blinking curiously at Noctis’ back. The Prince sits near the edge of the lighthouse’s balcony, comfortably bundled by a large blanket around his shoulders, legs slipped through the metal bars so his slippered feet dangle casually through the brisk night breeze. He stares out at the gentle flutter of the Cygillian’s ocean waves as though he’s mesmerized by the constant push and pull, or perhaps the way the moonlight speckles across the surface like a treasure trove of diamonds.
Nyx stands a mere few steps from Noctis’ side, eyes stuck on his back and the sway of the ends of his dark hair in the wind. It’s far beyond a suitable bedtime for either of them, but Nyx can’t seem to find the will to bother trying to urge Noctis back to bed with him. Not on a night like this where he can take in the captivating view with an equally captivating Prince.
“About us?” Nyx repeats, pulling his hands from his hoodie pockets as he takes those last few steps. He sits down next to Noctis, crossing his legs under himself. “Not sure if I’m following you, Noct.”
Noctis purses his lips and makes a contemplative hum. His head tilts slightly back, eyes following the horizon, to the stars, and then the moon.
“Like...” There’s a subtle pinch between his brows. “Do you think there’s other universes out there… and that we’re in them together?”
Nyx’s lips part as he processes Noctis’ questions in his head. There are few things or people that are occasionally capable of leaving Nyx speechless and lacking some form of sharp wit in a relatively quick manner. Of course, Noctis is one of those people and he’s just done it again. Nyx finds himself stuck between two different gut reactions: a soft but fond laugh or simply asking Noctis if he’s okay.
He smiles fondly instead, bumping Noct’s shoulder with his.
“What kind of comics have you been reading lately?”
(The rest on ao3)
(Reblogs would be really, really appreciated <3)
