I held on for so many years afraid not to get her in trouble. I didn't want to get in trouble. Afraid if I said something no one would do anything anyway. Too many years living in shame, disgust, and resentment. Although my mom has an open door policy we also grew up in a keep your mouth shut society. Speed it up I told my mom after being triggered at a holiday event, which I couldn't sit at any longer. Later to find out that she stood up and spoke for me. I wish I knew I could tell her sooner.
