Power Rangers Ninja Storm Headcanons

Content warning: canon typical violence, canonical character death, mentioned child death, show spoilers

Kanoi Watanabe promised his wife that Cam wouldn't be a ninja, but still trained his son with a ninja's fighting style. He also found someone to train his son in the ways of a samurai after she died to honor his late wife

Cam is homeschooled, which is partly why he's so awkward around people who aren't his family or his friends (his team)

Dustin's comic book collection is vast and extensive. He has a massive amount of Power Rangers, DC, and Marvel, but also small-time comics. He also watches anime and reads manga

Shane got into skateboarding because his parents were always busy and never had time to run him anywhere, so he started skateboarding so he could take himself

Shane, Dustin, and Tori are childhood friends, they met when they were in grade school and have remained besties ever since

Cam's issue with the Wind Ninja Rangers wasn't that they're late or underperforming, it's that he knows Rangering is a dangerous business and he didn't want to get attached to Shane, Tori, and Dustin, and then lose someone else he cares about

Cam's birthday is a sensitive subject for him, he never feels like celebrating, because his mother died on the day he turned six

Cam keeps the amulet to honor his mother, but also because he's grown accustomed to wearing something around his neck. Before he, Blake, and Hunter went to retrieve their Ranger powers, Cam actually bought a jade pendant to wear around his neck just to alleviate the strange feeling of not having his mother's amulet with him

Blake and Hunter knew deep inside their hearts that Lothor was lying to them from the start, but they were blinded by grief and anger and couldn't listen to their instincts

Dustin is an "airhead" and this leads to him forgetting things more than once, which is why if it's something common or forgotten often, Tori and Shane care spares with them everywhere

Dustin has ADHD

Shane, Dustin, and Tori would kill for Cam if asked or given half a chance, Cam is their favorite person (besides each other and their s/os) and they're highly protective of him, even after he becomes a Ranger

The Ninja Rangers keep a special eye on the other Ninja teams and also the Samurai team, not because they're jealous or anything but because they're ready to jump in and help if necessary

Cam trained both Antonio Garcia and Levi Weston, he's protective of them and is always happy to take their calls. He can and has dismissed classes early when they call during those classes

The reason Cam didn't get sucked up with the rest of the school is because the Power had already chosen him. The Power protects its chosen Rangers, so Cam wasn't taken with the school when it was sucked up into the air

It took Blake and Hunter forty-five minutes to capture Cam when they went to get Kanoi. Cam doesn't hold it over their heads, but he will on occasion mention it when they're particularly cocky or arrogant (ie.: "It took you forty-five minutes to capture a regular, everyday ninja while in your morphed forms, I don't think you should talk about being 'the greatest ninja ever.'")

Cam is the youngest of the team, being a year younger than the other Rangers. Hunter is the oldest at 19, then Tori, Shane, Blake, and Dustin at 18, then Cam at 17

Hunter already graduated high school and Cam has graduated college (genius that he is), but Shane, Dustin, Tori, and Blake all graduated between Scent of a Ranger and I Love Lothor

Shane, Tori, and Dustin are Soulmates, platonic or not. Other Soulmates include: Shane and Dustin, Tori and Blake, and Hunter and Cam

Shane, Tori, Dustin, and Cam have a trauma bond, they're also quite literally ride or die, fuck with them at your own risk

Cam can and has made surveillance footage around Ninja Ops disappear when asked bribed

Blake and Hunter were adopted at the same time and have known each other since they were infants

Blake and Hunter are also wary around water, as their element is electricity

Cam both does and doesn't have a ninja element. The Wind Ninja Academy teaches the way of the Air, Earth, and Water Ninja while the Thunder Academy has a Lightning Ninja specialty, but there's no way to teach the element of Energy

Tori was Shane's original second-in-command, but once Hunter and Blake joined the team, Tori stepped back and let Hunter take his place as the second-in-command

The Wind and Thunder Morphers would be disguised as bracelets, but the Rangers never asked how to disguise them, and Cam thinks it's funny to watch them walk around with big bulky equipment on their wrists.

[Warning: child death] Cam, Kapri, and Marah are related in blood. Lothor and Kanoi had an older sister who left the family the second she turned 18 and hasn't been heard from since. The only way they knew she was still alive was Kapri and Marah's existence. Kara Watanabe, unfortunately, died in childbirth trying to deliver Kapri and Marah's baby brother, neither she nor the baby survived

Shane, Dustin, and Tori all moved to California, which is why Shane and Tori didn't think Power Rangers were real outside of comics

Dustin has a cat, Junebug. She's a grey-and-white tabby with bright green eyes. Dustin found her on the side of the road as a kid and he brought her with him to California

Cam would love to own a snake, but Kanoi has never liked snakes and Cam doesn't have time to care for one. That being said, the other Rangers get him one for his birthday and promise to help him care for the little thing. It's a beautiful yellow boa and Cam adores him. His name is Banana (courtesy of his former owner) and Cam can often be found wearing the snake around his neck or on his arm when he's not teaching a class

Cam earned a nickname only the Rangers are allowed to use for him: Camera. This is due to his exceptional work with recording devices and picture-taking. Others can try to use this nickname and Cam will either not respond, or flip said person depending on his mood

So with the lore building and story stuff going on in the Dustin/Hunter AU I decided to make a post about the power system.

First things first the shinobi(or ninjas, however you want to put it) all have teachings under the five schools. The Wind, Thunder, Wave, Fire and Earth Academies. Each school has a fair amount of the same stuff but alternate with various aspects to offer.

Now for sources, the three sources for abilities and techniques are Qi, Dynamo and Lotus everyone including those unaware of it's existence host qi.

Qi is the force that drives life within a being but also can be charged and weaponised. With it ninjas are able to use their elemental affinity and in some cases have a unique effect with them(comes out as an aura, color depends on the person).

Second source is Dynamo, a sort of energy deriving from the second dynamics of each person in the AU. Writing the a/b/o aspects as non explicit but the trope is altered around by me for stuff and with details in powers and lore areas, dynamo involves mainly the senses of a person and soul ambience. This one is an innate one that everyone has as it activates no matter what when it comes to scents, qi boosts etc etc it will all develop as we go on, also depending on the dynamic a person has it there may be different effects(main way it's shown is through the present marking a person has)

And finally Lotus, nature energy which comes for the world itself. This is a potent yet powerful force that only a few have mastered, it's worth noting the samurai prioritize this power the most with their abilities.

Elemental wise the five elements are Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Thunder. Worth noting not to take it from a literally sense but more of a metaphorical one even with the generic powers as it can refine itself depending on the user. Some individuals may have a full on variation depending on say a family, the individual or overall output(Ex: Kapri having ice)

There's also stuff like scrolls, tools etc but that's a wip. This is what I have so far but yeah if anyone has any thoughts etc I'm all for answering 👀 wondering what Hurricaneger characters could appear(already mentioned blue and red)

They don't get a lot of time together anymore. With Dustin getting taken in by his sister and Shane's siblings at home, there's not a lot of places they can go to be alone. Ninja Ops is obviously a no-go for the reasons of it being home to Cam and Sensei and neither of the boys want to test if Cam's hearing is as fantastic as his Ninja abilities.

So, when Shane suggests a walk in the woods and Dustin agrees, neither is shocked when it turns into something more.

They're laying down on a patch of grass called up by Dustin's ninja abilities. Shane lays on top of Dustin, arms on either side of the Yellow's head. They're kissing lazily because Dustin had asked and Shane likes indulging his boy. Dustin moans softly against Shane's mouth and Shane teasingly nips at Dustin lips to quiet him. This, of course, just spurs Dustin on further.

The Yellow slips a hand under Shane's top and traces warm fingers over Shane's toned stomach. Shane moans, pushing Dustin flat and laying his body weight on the Yellow instead. This has the added bonus of Shane being able to feel the bulge in Dustin's pants. The Red hums happily. "That a root in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

Dustin laughs, then pulls his arms free and wraps the around the Red's neck. "Come find out, lover boy," he teases in reply.

They trickle in one by one.

The brainwashed, those under spells, the ones who were raised bad, lied to, cast aside. The ones who lost their memories or were fallen in battle and risen as evil. The ones who were tricked.

Tommy, as always, leads these meetings. He's there before any of them. Karone slips in after him, sitting prim and proper in her seat as she texts her magni, "treasure," literally translated. Merrick follows her, sitting cross-legged on the couch and fiddling with the collar of the silver jacket he wears. Then comes Ryan Mitchell, his ring flashing in the meager light and eyes angry, looking around pissed off as if asking for a fight. Tommy makes sure to pay close attention to the demon-raised man.

Following Ryan, the Ninja Storm Rangers - Red, Blue, and Yellow. The pair bring with them an electric feeling, like a storm was on the rise, just waiting to happen. Next comes Trent, breathing deeply to calm himself down, the White kisses his girlfriend goodbye at the door and sends her off, looking like he'd rather go with her. Tommy keeps a special eye on him as well.

After Trent, Vida Rocca charges in. She wears a new pink choker, her only allowance to her color, the rest of her outfit is varying shades of black, white, and grey. On Vida's heels comes Leanbow, the Wolf Warrior, among the oldest of the Power Rangers. Right at the start time, Kevin Yamamoto comes in, calm and poised as any samurai Tommy has ever met. And five minutes later, in trails their newest member, Ollie Akana.

"Are we missing anyone?" Tommy asks after another five minutes.

Karone shakes her head. As Tommy’s assistant in Jason and Billy's absence, it's her job to keep track of the topics and make sure everyone who wants to speak gets a chance.

Tommy nods. "Alright," he says. "Let this session start, then. Where did we stop last time?"

Karone checks her notes. "Hunter Bradley was talking about his time on the island trying to kill his brother."

Tommy glances at the Ninja Rangers. Shakes shakes his head. "Hunter and Blake went to visit their grandmother. She got really sick."

"Well, alright. Before we get into it, let's welcome our newest member, Ollie Akana."

Ollie looks up, startled. When all eyes turn to him, he waves awkwardly. Ollie is intelligent, like Billy and Justin, so Tommy’s not shocked to see his less than stellar social skills. "Hi," Ollie says, faux casual.

"Introduce yourself?" Tommy offers.

Ollie swallows before nodding. "I'm Ollie," he says unnecessarily. "I'm Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury Blue. I guess I'm here for support? I don't really know."

Tommy nods. "It's okay, man, we've all been there. If you want to talk about it today, we'll listen."

Ollie thinks about it for a second, but ultimately shakes his head. "Not today," he says. His voice is devastated. Tommy knows how he feels.

"Alright," Tommy replies. He moves on, so the spotlight is off Ollie. "Ryan, you wanna kick us off?"

Ryan looks up, eyes like molton steel, and nodded. "Yeah," he replies. "We found a straggler a few days ago. I knew this one personally. He tried to beg for mercy, talking about all the 'great times' we'd had together." Ryan scoffs, one arm around his waist. "I don't think he understood just how much those great times actually hurt. Sucks."

Tommy nods. "I understand," he replies. "It's rough meeting the people we once considered friends before."

Vida raises a hand. "Some of the Briarwood folk still look at me like I'm gonna sprout fangs and eat them. Others wish I'd go back," she explains. Turning to Ryan, she adds, "It's never easy, is it?"

Ryan shakes his head. "Sometime, when they aren't paying attention, the Lightspeed Rangers will flinch like they expect me to hit them," he replies. "Hurts being only seen as the guy who got raised by demons."

Karone hums sympathetically. "Or the daughter of evil," she adds in.

"Your Red is you brother, right?" Ryan asks. "He the only one that doesn't look at you like you're gonna snap at any second?"

Karone nods, shifting closer. Tommy allows the group to keep talking, only speaking up when the conversation allows. This is what this group is for: to allow the various brainwashed Rangers to commiserate and share their pain. Tommy turns his attention to the newest Blue. He walks over and sits next to the twenty year old, the youngest of his team. "Hey," he says.

Ollie startles again, looking up. "Hi, Doctor Oliver," he replies.

Tommy smiles. "Just Tommy," he asks. "Only my students call me doctor."

Ollie nods in acceptance.

Tommy sobers and continues, "I know you're not ready to talk about it, but one day, it's gonna hit you hard that you almost killed the people you love. It's gonna hit fast and it's gonna hit soon." He reaches into his pocket and produces his business card. "When it happens," he says, "call me. I'll be there as soon as I can."

Ollie takes the care hesitantly with shaking hands. He looks up at Tommy with wide eyes, then nods. "Thanks," he replies.

Tommy smile again. "'S what I'm here for."

Power Rangers Ninja Storm HCs and Character Analysis (kind of)

The first of a series of long posts examining the characters of PR Ninja Storm

Shane Clarke

Background/story

Dad is very come and go. Absent for most of his life before leaving for good after the birth of his little sister

His mom is awesome, but had to pick up multiple jobs after his dad left

She works at a diner that the rangers frequent often

Shane picked up a job at Storm Chargers to help out and that’s where he met Dustin

Has an older brother (2-3 years older) who he does not get along with

Brother ignores background (Read: Family)

Says Shane needs to try harder to ‘get out of their city’ in order to ‘make something of himself’

Dad put a lot of expectations on them whenever he was around

Brother wants to make him proud

Shane is pissed that he expected so much of them while doing the bare minimum for them himself

Needless to say they have very different opinions on their dad

They both love their family though and help their mom out wherever they can (brother is going to become a lawyer and Shane works at Storm Chargers)

Has a little sister (5) who Shane adores with his whole heart

Babysits when he can

Is teaching her how to skateboard and some martial arts

She adores Dustin (as most kids do) and thinks Tori is very pretty

Is cautious of Hunter and Blake at first (Shane complained about ‘the new kids at work’ a lot)

Eventually starts to like them (Hunter sweeps her off her feet like Dustin, but Blake is a fun playmate too)

She is very cute

Met Dustin at Storm Chargers when he had to get a new skateboard (he broke it doing a guard rail slide)

Became best buddies when Shane stopped a group of bullies from picking on Dustin at school

Dustin started working at Storm Chargers first and Shane hung out there so much that Kelly just offered to pay him to be there (Dustin double bodies with Shane to get work done) (It’s a 50/50 on whether they get work done or not)

Have the brotherly relationship Shane wanted with his brother (they tease and tussle a lot but they want the best for each other and are very supportive/protective)

Met Tori when she came into Storm Chargers lost (Before they worked there)

Dustin and Shane recognized her from school and go to say hi

They startle her and she sprays them with water to which she freaks out about because her parents freak out about it but Dustin and Shane show her their abilities with earth and air (in secret) and she chills about it

Shane asked how a girl could do sports and both Dustin and Tori are like ‘Girls can do sports!’ ‘Yeah, my older sister is really good at soccer and basketball!’ ‘Oh. Sorry. Do you do any sports?’ ‘I surf’ ‘Awesome!!’

They slowly become friends (Tori is a little more anxious than Shane and Dustin at this point in time)

Eventually become family and are very close (also protective, mainly of Dustin since he is prone to getting bullied) (Dustin is oblivious to it but he appreciates his friends for sticking up for him anyways) (People basically stopped when he shot up, got buff, and hella pretty)

Shane keeps a lot of guys off Tori when they’re at the beach because the vibes are wrong

Also aromantic and doesn’t understand why Tori may want to have random strangers come and flirt with her

Shane and Tori fight like siblings do and Dustin is either mediator or off to the side with popcorn

Side tangent of their entering of the Ninja Academy for timeline reasons

Started at the beginning of high school so they could have something to do together since they have different sporting hobbies

Ended up being a bit of an elaborate plan to get them into the academy (since it’s a secret academy)

Officially known as the Academy of Elemental Ninjutsu

Dustin is all for it and is excited to be a ninja but Shane and Tori are a little more skeptical (secretly also very excited)

They are the most powerful students, but don’t have much experience with their powers so they get their butts kicked a lot

They are pretty good for the amount of time they’ve put in

Can use smoke bombs, can ninja vanish, streak, and have shurikens

Tori would always be on time of not for the boys

Ok, back to their relationships with people

Didn’t know Cam until they started at the academy and even then it was only through very, very brief interactions (Cam doesn’t like talking to people… or people in general)

After the academy is destroyed, they start talking to him more and dubbed him their ‘guy in the chair’ (affectionate)

Become fiercely protective of him (he’s the littlest brother) (he is older than both Tori and Dustin) (he says as much)

Shane is very impressed with fighting skills even before he became a ranger

Appreciates him, but shows it in his usual manner of teasing and back slaps (Cam thinks he’s being made fun of) (he is not)

Does not like Hunter or Blake the first time they meet

Susses them out immediately as bad news and argues over them a little with Dustin and Tori

Is very vindicated when they do turn out to be bad but doesn’t rub it in because Dustin and Tori are pretty upset over it

Sympathizes with them for having lost a parent (in a different way for him but still)

Is still suspicious and cautious by the time the leave, but takes a neutral stance for the most part

And then when they come back brainwashed he fucking loses it

Hates them, hates them so much, he doesn’t care what happened to their parents they are hurting his friends (badly)

Finds out they were brainwashed and takes all the anger he had for them and takes it out on Choobo (Who dies and stays dead, thank you)

Pretty chill with Blake but has a very intense rivalry with Hunter since they are both reds/head of their group

Calms down after they realize they have a lot in common, including older brother overprotectiveness, and it becomes a friendly rivalry

Personality/Headcanons/Arcs

Headstrong and follows his guts on most things

Also very stubborn and likes to do things his way

But is caring and protective too and looks out for his own

Strategically smart and is the most experienced with weaponry

Specialized in crossbows, bows and arrows, and (for some ungodly reason) guns

Is also handy with a fan and throwing knives

Powers allow him to walk on air, has a longer hang time in general (very helpful with skateboard practice)

Can hold is breath for the longest (Tori is a close second)

Powers also make him silent on his feet (can and has scared his fellow rangers) (Must announce his presence when walking into a room)

Hated the fact that his friends were going to be put in the line of fire when they become rangers

Thus why he pushes them so hard and tries to take the brunt of the punches

Learns to trust his team and to work as a unit

Has a lot of self-esteem issues and constantly feels like he has to prove himself

Dustin and Tori try to help with this, and later Sensei because this is something that an adult should be helping with

Has to learn that he is enough on his own and he doesn’t need his brother’s approval for anything he does

Shane thought the thing with Skylar was a dream

He had that dream a lot as a kid and then it stopped

He was confused when they started up again and they gave him a weird feeling

Skylar was basically his platonic soulmate and he was so happy to finally meet her and then she dies and it’s ANGSTY

LET SHANE CRY OVER HER AFTER SHE DIES

Dustin and Tori are there for comfort

On a happier note, Shane can sing

Like really well

“It is your birthday~”

Becomes a sensei at the end of the show and eventually takes over as headmaster when sensei retires
