New Work! These two pieces look fabulous side by side. I explained my inspiration in a previous post about the painting on the left “I Am Awareness” but I have yet to share my inspiration for the artwork on the right. Two of the most powerful forces in life are fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer. My hope is that humans will evolve and reshape the world for the better. ☮️Imagine, 36" x 36" work on wood was inspired by words from the late John Lennon's song "IMAGINE". Every time I set out to do something, I eventually do it. However, there are two trips that are on my list that will become a reality someday. The first bucket list trip is heading to Argentina to Punta Tombo nature reserve, in Puerto Madryn to hang out with the penguins. The second trip is visiting the Amazon Rainforest. I want to document both the beauty and the devastating deforestation that is happening to this region of the world. What artists have influenced you? I remember looking at art books as a child and feeling inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe, Van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, etc. Art has always been something that I have gravitated towards as a form of self-expression. While I continue to be inspired by all art, two artists inspire my work to this day. I feel a pull from both the paintings and the conceptual work of Dorothea Rockburne. She has been making art since the ’60s and the evolution of her work is inspiring. Another artist who has influenced me with his continuous shifting from figurative work to abstraction is Bay Area Figurative artist Richard Diebenkorn. Viewing both artists and the lifetime of their ever-evolving aesthetic, I can see their influences and a correlation to the work I do in the studio. Wow, the last month has been a whirlwind of emotion. I had a medical scare that really had me look deep down within myself. Waiting for results, really has you evaluate your life and helps you release what no longer serves you. I’ve been working on a lot of new abstract work. However, this figurative painting I titled “Comfort” ,(18 x 18”, oil on wood panel) pretty much sums up where I have been. * * * This is the last line from the Mary Oliver poem Summer Day. It really spoke volumes to me during this process. “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”.
