So I'm annoyed at a collage of minidiscs ending up in my timeline because I follow "diskette" but that's not important...
You know how weird the etymology of "diskette" is?
So, it's a portmanteau of "disk" and "cassette".
Disk as in "a round flat thing", and it's the American spelling, because the diskette was invented by IBM, an American company. Disk (usually spelled "disc" in commonwealth countries) comes from the Greek dískos, as in "discus", the circular thing you throw for sport.
And floppy disks are primarily a circle of magnetic material. That's actually how they were first conceived, as a flexible version of the rigid metal magnetic circles used in hard drives. But they quickly realized that it was impossible to keep them clean: fingerprints and dust stick to the surface too easily, ruining them. So they were given a vinyl (and later, plastic) jacket, so they could be safely carried around.
And thus, diskette was coined. Sometimes you'll see it etymologized as "small disk", like a disk-ette, but that's wrong: it's a portmanteau with cassette. Because cassettes were made by taking reel to reel magnetic tape and putting it in a small case, so they can be quickly and reliably loaded.
And why are cassettes called that? Well, it's French. But in French it's quite simple: it's the diminutive of "casse", which means case. It's a little case. You put the tape in a little box. It's a cassette.
So similarly, diskette was made by cassettizing "disk". You put the disk in a little case. It's a disk cassette, a diskette.
This sort of thinking also explains why they're called "floppy disks" when they've been hard plastic since 1984: it's just like how we call cassettes "tapes". They're not tape, they're a little plastic box containing tape. Tape is a thin flexible thing that you wrap around a spool, not a little plastic box. But we call them "tapes"/"a tape" as synecdoche: a part is used to represent the whole. It's a "tape", fittingly because the tape is the important part. It's the part that stores the audio, the rest is just packaging to keep it safe and reliable.
Floppy disks are similarly called such: the floppy part is the magnetic disk inside the vinyl or plastic case. We're calling the whole package by the part that actually stores the data.
And in any case, they were named as such in comparison to "hard disks": the metal or glass surfaces used by hard drives.
Anyway, three final things:
1. You ever wonder why it's Floppy Disk but optical discs? You have a DVD* disc or a CD (compact disc), not a DVD Disk or Compact Disk. I already basically explained it: floppies were invented in the US, and compact discs came from a Philips/Sony partnership: a Dutch/Japanese partnership. So they used the commonwealth spelling, thus it became a standard to refer to optical media as "discs".
2. My favorite silly floppy fact comes from this sort of thing: so the first floppies were 8", then the 5.25" model was invented, and in 1981 we got the 3.5" floppy. These are by far the three most common floppy disks, and those are their names, used nearly** universally in English.
But here's the thing: one of them is wrong.
8 inch floppy disks? They're eight inches even. 5.25 inch floppy disks? They're 5.25 inches even.
3.5" disks are actually 3.543"!
This is for the same reason why we have disk vs disc for floppy and optical media: 8" disks were invented by IBM, an American company. 5.25" disks were invented by Shugart/Wang, both American companies.
3.5" disks were invented by Sony, a Japanese company. They're not 3.5" disks... They're 90mm disks!
But it was already the standard in English that floppy disk formats get called by their size in inches, so it has always been called the 3.5" disk, because that's close enough for jazz.
3. to get back to the first point of this post: minidiscs aren't diskettes. Diskette is for disks, and minidiscs are discs. They're not flexible, they're rigid: minidiscs are actually magneto-optical discs, where there's a small plastic disc like a CD, which is read by a laser but written by a magnetic read head. Since they have to be rigid for the laser to work, they're (rigid) discs, not (flexible) disks. They are confusing, I agree: usually magnetic media is disk, while optical is disc, and disks have cases, while discs are just a plastic circle... But minidiscs are magnetic AND optical, and they're optical but inside a case. They're one of those exceptions that makes taxonomy so difficult. (they're very trans in that way, imo)
* I intentionally didn't expand out the acronym DVD, because the fun fact is about that is that DVD is not an acronym. Not anymore. It was originally supposed to be Digital Video Disc, but the later Digital Versatile Disc to better reflect the non-video uses of the disc, but apparently the official meaning of the acronym is now that it just is the name of the disc. It's a DVD: it doesn't stand for anything.
** one exception to the "universally called by their sizes in English" that I'm aware of is South Africa. For Reasons they just called the 5.25" disks "floppies", and then when 3.5" disks came around, they called them... "stiffies". Yes, this is hilarious. They know.

Hey, do you want to learn how to play VHS tapes in the year 202X?
Tumblr media
I know this is my art blog, but it has come to my attention that some of you are too young to have experienced the joys of the Video Home System in its prime. Come hither so I can teach you and we can embrace the beauty of physical media together. If you have a thrift store and a TV, this process should work for you.
Step 1: Get a VCR ($4-$15)
DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE VCR/COMBO SETS FROM THE INTERNET!
The ones you find on sites like eBay and Etsy are insanely overpriced and might not even work. Instead, find a Goodwill, Savers, or independent thrift store near you and go to the electronics section. There’s a good chance they’ll have at least one VCR. If they don’t, try a different shop. You can also check local online marketplaces, yard sales, etc.
Good things to look for:
4 (or more) Heads — Heads are the things that actually read the tape. The more heads you have, the better your picture is going to be.
Auto Tracking — Poor tracking can create a rolling picture, which is a pain to fix. An auto tracking VCR does that work for you.
Pre-2000 — After 2000, electronics started being mass produced with plastic casings and cheap parts. VCRs made after this time are a whole lot easier to break. Ideally, you want something from the late 80s to mid 90s.
Well-known brands — Sony, Toshiba, etc. Japanese manufacturers tend to have the best quality. Early Emersons are nice too.
Generally good condition — If there’s a bullet hole in the case, it’s probably best to pass on. A bit of dust isn’t an issue, but major damage isn’t a good sign. If you can, plug the machine into a power outlet in the store and see if it even turns on.
Head cleaning indicator — Not something you *need*, but I find it nice to have. You’ll want to use a head cleaning tape when the indicator starts flashing.
Tumblr media
This is the one I’ll be using for the sake of this guide. This is an old Emerson that I picked up from Goodwill for $7.95. (Notice the five price tags they slapped on top.)
Step 2: Get Some Tapes (¢10-$1)
This is the fun part. Almost every thrift store will have some VHS tapes, usually near the books/DVDs/records. I’ve seen them as expensive as a dollar, but some stores will just give them away for free. I suggest buying a few movies you like, plus one or two shitty tapes to test out your VCR with.
Tumblr media
You may also find 20 different copies of Titanic in every store. This is a normal occurance.
Tumblr media
Remember to check the condition of any tape you plan on putting in your machine. If the spool looks moldy, you *can* try to clean it, but you’ll need another VCR to do so. If the tape looks wrinkled or otherwise damaged, you can still probably play it, but it will look and sound a lot rougher than you should expect. If the casing is damaged, I wouldn’t risk trying to put it in your VCR at all.
Remember: VHS tapes stopped being produced commercially in 2006. Most tapes you find aren’t going to be in the best shape, because they’re all a few decades old. (Sometimes, though, you will come across a tape with an excellent picture, good sound quality, and subtitles! The Mummy tape that I own is near perfect.)
Step 3: Connecting the VCR to Your TV
For this step, you’re going to want a coaxial cable and a set of RCA cables (the red, yellow, and white ones). If your TV doesn’t have an RCA input, you’ll also need an RCA-to-HDMI converter. If your TV also doesn’t have an HDMI input for whatever reason, you’re shit out of luck.
Tumblr media
You’ll plug these cables into the “out” or “out to tv” connection on your VCR, then plug the other end into the back of your TV.
Note: Not all VCRs have right audio (the red one)! That’s fine. Just leave it hanging free. The left audio (white) is your mono audio, so you’ll just have that instead.
Lastly, put the channel switch on the back of your VCR on 3 or 4. I keep mine on 3. This is the number for the channel you’ll go to on your TV to actually see what the VCR is playing.
Step 4: Setting up the TV
I use a little Roku TV, which is surprisingly steady to set up for VCR input:
Settings ➡️ TV Inputs ➡️ Live TV
From here, you’ll either be prompted to scan for channels OR you’ll have to select “scan for antenna channels”. It will ask you if you want to have channels 3 and 4, to which you’ll say “yeah, I do want channels 3 and 4” and click the button that lets you have channels 3 and 4. If you don’t have an antenna, you can skip the other prompts.
I haven’t done this on any other type of TV, but the process should be pretty similar: get yourself to channels 3 and 4 through whatever means necessary.
Once you’re there, it should look like this. Sad, blank, and lonely. But not for long.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Playing Your Tapes
This is where things can go really really well or really really wrong. If everything is hooked up, you can grab your shitty tape and insert it into the VCR.
(Make sure there isn’t anything else in there first, though. Some people don’t remove their precious Titanic copies before donating these things.)
Tumblr media
You’ll want a tape that’s fairly clean, with no casing damage, and already rewound (black tape in the left window). To insert the tape into a front-loading VCR, slowly and firmly slide it into the slot. Once it’s most of the way in, the machine should “grab” it and pull it all the way inside. You’ll hear the machine make some noises.
(If those noises are really crunchy, that’s probably not a good thing. Troubleshoot with your favorite search engine or head over to r/VHS to see if anyone can help you.)
Once your machine is only making some clunky whirring sounds, it should be safe to press the play button. Enjoy watching your favorite films in the least pleasant format possible. Don’t forget to rewind em when you’re done.
Tumblr media
If you have issues, the freaks over at r/VHS tend to be really helpful, but you can also find decade-old YouTube videos that might answer your questions too.

Was at a local electronics salvage store and saw this Sony MZ-R70 MiniDisc player for $100. Which cracked me up because since I own one of the same model myself, from a church yardsale which I paid $12 for, which was mostly complete and came with 8 discs, I knew this was incomplete and not worth that price.
Tumblr media
It’s supposed to come with the manual (of course), an optical cable (for audio input), a Xitel interface the optical cable and the computer plug into [USB-A to USB-B cable not shown here, you know what one of those look like], a remote control (which is used in both playing and in recording/tracking), a wallwart power supply (for use without battery and for charging a rechargeable battery), and some cheap headphones.
This is the lower-priced and better-designed version of a more featured unit (the MZ-R90), but only can record in realtime and via the optical cable (which plugs into the first headphone jack). The battery life is fairly impressive at 17 hours on one alkaline AA. Compared to models from three years later that had NetMD functionality (direct connection to the computer via USB, SonicStage burning software, and three recording and playback speeds) and 30+ hours on a battery, this is just a nice unit to play storebought MD albums on rather than use to record your own.

Oh my god is that all your vintage gear?
Please, tell me about it.
That is my main HiFi setup. It's made mostly of thrift store finds I've worked on.
The main turntable is a Dual 1229 that was in a very dustcover/plinth. The original cartridge's right channel had a slightly noticeable distortion so I upgraded it to a Ortofon super om 10.
Tumblr media
This is the Panasonic 8-Track, AM/FM radio and the preamp for my 78 playback. It was originally my main preamp for a cheap BSR record changer turntable I got as a upgrade to my starting 5 in one no name unit when I was about 15
Tumblr media
This Sanyo is probably the piece of equipment that has lasted me the longest. I got it when I was about 14. I'm still surprised that the belts are still good, and I haven't had any issues with it over the 10 or so years I've had it l.
Tumblr media
This absolute unit is a fairly recent addition. I kinda always wanted to add CDs to my system but never found a player that stood out to me, that was until a few months ago I came across this 200 CD mega storage Sony unit. The incredible excessiveness of it was greatly comical to me and I had to have it.
Tumblr media
The tan kind of brownish one with all those fun enticing knobs is a Raymer 800-35 A solid state amplifier that's used with a very special piece I'll show at the end.
Tumblr media
The one on top with the cute iDogs on top is the Paramount Pictures Model 1000 Stereo Sound Decoder. It makes the music go from cool stereo separation to an all encompassing room of sound. It sounds pretty good.
Tumblr media
And finally my most priced unit. A very special piece of equipment. One that was a childhood dream of mine to own. I honestly never expected to own one. It's my Rek-O-Kut TR43H Recording Lathe. It's used to cut records. The Raymer amplifier is what I use to power the cutting head as it needs an 8ohm signal to produce audio, similarly to a speaker. I acquired this about 2 years ago. The person selling it was an older gentleman in his 80s. He was just not getting any use out of it and in his old age he needed some extra funds for medical expenses. It's the only piece in my main setup I didn't find at a thrift store and is the most expensive thing I bought for it. It took me about 2 years fiddling around with it before I finally started getting the decent results I get now.
Tumblr media
Here's the kind of audio quality I've reproduced.

Downloading On the web Movies
There are a good deal of on the internet web sites for downloading movies, whilst the legality challenge was yet a big situation mark right up until finally a small while ago, specifically presented that websites downloading audio like Napster had been shut down. The enormous information for a lot of particular laptop or computer junkies not as well prolonged back was that the corporations of Movielink and CinemaNow are regarded as at the moment remaining the to start off with large online resources for lawful downloadable motion photographs in the United States. Beforehand the studios have been currently being shy about licensing on the internet retailers for anything but video rental, but now that has altered. Movielink has managed this breakthrough by pushing forward with the backing of Common, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount, Sony Illustrations or photos, and Warner Brothers. Nhật Ký Tự Do Của Tôi - My Liberation Notes is in a equivalent circumstance, which is factor of the explanation why these companies are experimenting to see how the downloads solution performs. Film downloads for new releases turn out to be available on the specific day as the DVD launch, and there is an at any time escalating backlist of beforehand designed videos all well prepared. The just a single depth to keep in intellect that would make these downloads varied than many others: you can not burn off up nearly anything on to DVD, the attain will only stay on your personalized laptop and can not be copied. Pricing, in accordance to studios, is at the moment "aggressive" with the DVD launch, which in numerous people’s minds tends to make it a awful get, remaining way also large priced for what you get. Typical movies are normally be priced at $13.ninety nine, with some films priced as low as $9.99. New films are all about the map. King Kong, for instance, will deliver for $19.99, when compared to $fourteen.96 + shipping and supply from stores like Amazon. The Terrible News Bears (2005), on the other hand, sells for $26.00 on-line at Movielink, which is proficiently the exact price Amazon is carrying at the second. Most of these options, even so, will not source the extras observed on existing day DVD and you instantly sacrifice the capacity to just acquire your flicks with you on the go. Encrypted or not, the regular DVD is at minimum amount transportable. All in all, this will make movie downloads from these internet-web pages, even with the reassurance of each and every point starting to be correct and "authorized" as actually weak.. Correct up right up until a greater pricing seems, it would appear to be to be that these firms are doomed to failure. At the very least they would be, if the motion picture businesses did not quite individual them. Hold out for a greater provide.

Finger on the pulse!
I still check ads. Maybe that Beogram 4000 will come up for cheap. Ya sure.
Lately I have been looking for people selling power tubes. A full set of 6550s matched from my reliable real store source is about $1k CAD. A private sale could be far less.
So I was checking the Canuck (Canadian) Audio Mart. There are a few potentials. One is a full set of 8 almost new, pulled from a different amp brand. There are a couple of sets of 4. The cost would be $600 to $800 with the added risk of no warranty and all that.
When I used the search term "6550 tube" an ad came up from a town in the middle of BC. There are a lot of retirees and people with money. The ad was for an ARC Cl60 amp just like mine but for a black front face. $3900! That is 2.6 times what I paid and tax and shipping on top of that. He also lists it on Ebay for $3750 US! They are a dealer who are very knowledgeable but known for higher prices. He was selling a Sony TT like my old one for almost 2k. Makes me feel very good about my deal.
The ad says they have the original box. Maybe I should offer to buy the box. If I ever need to ship it a crate would be good, but a real ARC box is very solid.
Hifi shark shows prices up to that range which is probably where he looked.
The other Cl60 down here on the coast is still there and the price dropped again now $1850. It has been in the listings for 6 months. I still feel it was not a real situation, it could have been stolen or at least removed from an old person's home. I may just repeat my offer of $900 bucks no questions asked to tease the guy. Hell he may raise the price given that other one, but I think he is not capable of shipping it given my discussions with him. There are a few fans of the brand around here, but if they really wanted it....
I have been toying with the idea of fiddling with the chassis to make the test points externally accessed. 6 banana jacks 3 per side with wires run to the circuit board. It would make bias a very simple process. Key to getting it right is temperature. You need the covers on to get operating temp, but off to test the voltages.
Down side is that I would be putting a 420 volt potential in an easier to get to place. Well that is the point, no? Maybe I could get a danger sticker with skull and cross bones?
Like I say I know enough to be dangerous.

Heyy. You were here for walls release right
Was the situation similar promo wise? If not how much better it is?
Bc I've seen atleast 2 dozen articles from billboard to rolling stone and tweets from verified radio accs So like... Wasn't it like this during walls? Or even half of it? I need a perspective yk?
Everyone's talking about Louis' album, it's making me emotional
Walls promo technically started with Two of Us promo.
Two of Us was very exciting. There were teases of audio clips, and a great fanfare and announcement. Louis had a live performance of the song with fans in the audience. There were three music videos released. I think the media response was not as widespread as now, but it seemed to be positive as well.
As we know now, because of Fizzy’s death, everything was cancelled. Louis did a live performance for Hits Live Birmingham in May 2019 that was probably already scheduled, and the original release date of Walls was probably for May 2019. This timeline meant that he would have already finished his first tour by spring 2020.
The Walls promo schedule was then shifted into fall 2019 for a January 2020 release. The media response fell off a wall. Louis never did anymore Capital FM interviews. He did a 1 hour interview on BBC Radio with Jack Saunders, and performed for their fund raising charity, but there was almost zero radio play on BBC of any of the five singles released for Walls.
In the USA, despite Louis’ going on Jojo Wright and Elvis Duran, iHeart radio almost uniformly ignored his music. Louis did get some play when he did Jingle Bell Ball in LA and NY, but it was minimal. Sirius XM was the only radio chain that played his music, and to their credit, they did it consistently.
Meanwhile, there was very little written press. What there was was perfunctory (“Louis released a single.”). In the weeks leading up to the release of the album itself, both Louis and LTHQ did almost no promo. There was no press, no interviews. The Walls tracklist reveal, while exciting, happened in a vacuum. After the album’s release and the week of record store signings, promo for the album stopped completely. Radio play and playlisting were nonexistent everywhere.
My gut feeling is that the label had no intention for the album to succeed, so they put structural roadblocks in place to make sure it wouldn’t. Sony gave the superficial appearance of supporting the album (allowing interviews and finding people to work on the music videos, planning segments for YouTube and Twitter), but they did not upload Walls music to AllAccess, a USA database from which radio stations can legally access released music to play. Therefore it was difficult for each station to get access unless they contacted the label directly. Sony heavily discouraged two of the three big radio conglomerates in the UK (Capital FM, BBC) from playlisting Walls music. Only stations from the Bauer Media group (Hits Live) played Louis. This pattern was so obvious after smaller artists were consistently played, and when Niall, Zayn, and Harry all had singles on the playlists (Harry had multiple songs on the BBC playlists at once, Lights Up and Adore You).
This is only the beginning for Faith in the Future. It’s too early to draw any conclusions, but I’m feeling optimistic.

THIS asshole……i got it for 50 bucks at a garage sale & for breakfast it chewed on my copy of london calling on tape. the only part of it that hasn’t fucked up so far is the cd player which is pretty much all i’m using it for at the moment. wise advice from the guy who runs the local phys media music & records store: never buy a stereo/walkman/whatever if the brand is someone’s name. for the meantime it’s a shelf for my vinyls and hat collection

next is her. the cd player doesn’t work quite right (skips songs & butchers the quality iirc). when i was still using my mom’s old stereo as my main one i’d use this little sony to fast forward and rewind tapes, since those buttons didn’t work on my mom’s. it’s kind of just sitting there on my floor now !
Tumblr media
to be honest i haven’t used this one yet but! she’s pretty & looks brand new. i think it was like $12 at a thrift store. score
Tumblr media
the shitty ass photo doesn’t do this one justice it’s so cool looking in real life!!! it only plays tapes but it plays them well and it’s actually really small & very lightweight. i wish it ran on batteries too instead of cord only but oh well. i fucking love sanyo’s old music products
now my discmans…..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the two on the right i’ve had for a while and work beautifully. i usually only bring the sony out and about with me because it actually fits in most pockets and bags. the jvc is such an unfortunate shape that it’s pretty much impossible to bring anywhere. sad! & the one on the left i got last weekend at a garage sale. it works fine it’s just super fucking dirty and i gotta clean it still
e walkmans
Tumblr media
the first one i ever got & my favourite & the oldest out of all of mine (1982). but i don’t think that even needs to be said because the sheer size of it gives away its age. compared to my hand it’s massive LOL my only gripe with her is the audio quality… it kind of sounds like you’re trying to listen to a stereo on middle volume while its like 30 feet away from you. there’s nothing wrong with it though its just wear and tear! i got it at a value village with the case and all + the leather straps attached to it are so you can carry it like a purse but i don’t dare try and hold it like that out of fear of the straps breaking
Tumblr media
this one is somewhere in the mid 90s range + the second one i ever got + my second favourite! it’s waterproof and pretty much built for running with so it’s the one i usually bring with me out in public! like most of the walkmans i have it has a belt clip on the back (unlike the previous one where the belt loop is a part of the vinyl case) (i have to literally remove my belt to take that thing off which is a little embarrassing to do in heavily populated areas)
Tumblr media
i originally got one of a very similar model at a thrift store but there was something wrong with it that made it so you could hear this clicking sound every time you’d play a tape. you could hear it even if the volume was way up so i passed it on to a friend of mine who liked the clicking sound and was in desperate need of a walkman. then i found this one on ebay for around the same price & it was in the box which was cool! nothing really special to say about it…….and i do have the headphones pictured on the box
Tumblr media
and this is my most recent score!! ft dookie by green day. i got it at a local vintage shop. it’s old enough that it doesn’t have a rewind button which is kind of neat
now kind of miscellaneous stuff i have laying around!
Tumblr media
radio headphones LOL. same story as that one sanyo up above: found og at a thrift store, and maybe might have broken it by accidentally leaving it in my bag for too long aand it got crushed by my books. it still worked, the plastic just broke so it didn’t quite sit right on your head & was uncomfortable to wear. a friend of mine willingly asked for them and then i found this pair (same exact model) on ebay and got it for like $15 cause i really liked the old one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are kind of cool!!! if your car has a cassette player and you want to listen to a cd, you can put that tape into the player and connect the cord to a discman/cd player and it’ll play! vice versa for the other one: if your car has a cd player but you wanna listen to a tape, you plug that into the electric cigarette lighter and the cord into a walkman/tape player. these would be twice as awesome if i actually had a car. Lol
Tumblr media
then this little portable radio! it’s kind of fun to walk around the house seeing where the signal cuts out & where it gets stronger. the metal antenna actually gets massive when you fully extend it
Tumblr media
these are cool too!!! not pictured is the plastic piece that goes between them but i do have it (you can kind of see it behind the portable radio in the last pic). you put your walkman in the plastic piece and connect it to the speakers and it basically turns your walkman into a custom little stereo
Tumblr media
and last but not least my dad’s walmart brand mp3 player he gave to me. it has a shit ton of faith no more, david bowie, and glenn danzig songs on it and it doesn’t stay alive for more than 30 seconds if it’s not plugged in
anyway that’s all i’ve got at the moment thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about them!!!!

How Does My MP3 Player Work?
MP3 players have been a revolution in music on the go. The days of being able to only have a handful of albums with us are long gone. The largest capacity players can store thousands. This gives us access to whatever music we want, when we want, where ever we are! There are many brands and companies which are manufacturing MP3 players; and some of the most reliable are Sony, Apple, Samsung and Creative.
A lot of us use players every day without giving much thought to how they actually work. This article is going to show you how.
MP3 players consist of magnetic or optical memory to store audio tracks. The audio can be transferred from personal computers to the unit using data cables. Because MP3 players only have a finite memory, the original tracks of music are compressed so that their size is reduced. The output or sound of the track depends upon two factors, namely the compression ratio and the bit rate measured in Kbps.
Whenever we playback an audio file, MP3 player deploys an DAC (Digital To Analog Converter) to convert the digital data (stored in the memory) to analog audio signals. These audio signals are then supplied to the headphones or speakers. You can also use your systems as microphones to record your voice or record a song from radio. This process deploys the reverse of playback technique. The recording process requires ADC (Analog To Digital Converter) to convert the audio signals (analog) to digital signals which can be stored on the memory.
Players are capable of supporting numerous file formats like WMA (Windows Media Audio), FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), MP3, MP3Pro, AAC and WAV to name a few. In addition to playback and recording; nowadays, these devices also provide reception of FM stations and a dedicated LCD display to toggle songs and play flash games.

where did you buy your vinyl player if you don’t mind me asking, i want one but i’m not interested in the cheap walmart ones
im not from the states! i got a really good deal and bought a player that's usually going for around 300€ for 129€! mine is the dual dt 250, i am not sure if that brand exists anymore/in the states tho. but there are players on the cheaper side from sony or audio technica which i would go for! and then for speakers i can recommend the edifier studio R1280T (those are the ones im using too and they sound great!) definitely go for an actual player and not one of those suitcase ones because those can be damaging over time. i think looking up beginner setups would be the best thing to do. there's lots of ppl on youtube and tiktok with videos about beginner setups too, id definitely check those out too bc they could tell you where to buy your setup (i have no idea which stores in the states sell record players tbh)
