~16/11/2022~ Think I’ve definitely got a stomach bug - temperature and felt rough in the morning, bad nausea is actually one of the main issues but it never really amounts to anything, and I can eat fairly okay after dosing up on anti-emetics. Was once again very relieved my morning appointment cancelled - they had a stomach bug too. Had supervision first thing with stand in supervisor (one of the psychologists from the team who I really like) - it was pretty helpful - she even gave me a bit of a social story on what to expect when we will have to go through an airport for the first time in years on our trip to Belfast at the end of this week! Had team meeting - where I had to share some really positive feedback I received from one of my peer support people, which I always find awkward, but get that it’s important to do and not lose sight of… Then I passed a couple of hours away reading work-related stuff, but not feeling as though I was getting anywhere fast - head was really foggy. So dosed up on meds and headed to Caffè Nero to work there for a couple of hours and was much more productive. Ended up writing this long ranty email about this film project I had originally volunteered for but the process of volunteering for it was anything but disability-friendly, which led to me having to pull out, and was all pretty ironic given the film was supposed to be about how inclusive and disability-friendly the organisation is! Felt better for getting it all out in writing! Was quite drained of energy by evening so just chilled with my Bella in candlelight… 🦄 #instadaily #instablog #update #mentalhealth #dissociativeidentitydisorder #cptsd #actuallyautistic #traumarecovery #edrecovery #anxiety #chronicillness #disability #pots #potsie #dysautonomia #positivevibes #recovery #nationaltrust #staycation #buckinghamshire #treehugger #stowe #stowelandscapegardens #nature #travel #naturelove #natureseeker #tower #skyporn (at National Trust - Stowe) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClEk-qGKye_DtvopgvQociN1JhxPB6NkwHn4Lw0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Floating Sanctuary on Water Lilies, Norfolk

Floating Sanctuary on Water Lilies in Norfolk

Floating Sanctuary on Water Lilies
Design: Baca Architects
Location: Ashwicken Lake, Norfolk, South East England, UK
Baca Architects has released visuals of a floating Floating Sanctuary Island, the design of which was inspired by the water lilies that abound in the surrounding lake. The island will comprise units of holiday apartments and forms part of Baca’s master plan for Ashwicken Lake, a proposed new eco-resort in Norfolk, UK which has recently been submitted for planning.
“The purpose behind our design is to evoke serenity amongst guests and synthesise human wellbeing,” says Richard Coutts, Principal of Baca Architects. “Lilies are a symbol of purity, wellness and peace. They float on the surface of the lake and extend their large leaves to attract the sunlight.”
The “Water Lily” is a two-storey structure but, since the embankment is approximately 2.5m higher than the structure’s primary floor, only one storey will be visible above the rim of the lake. All 40 apartments will enjoy a clear view out onto the lake and the clustered nature of the design will work to create a spacious courtyard for social gatherings in the centre of the island. The form of the “Water Lily” is designed to provide a sheltered enclave, achieving a generous sunbathing terrace at lake level with moorings for sailing boats. Access will be by the lake’s electric water taxis or via two footbridges from newly re-landscaped areas where bunding and planting at the further extremity of the site will further screen the island and generate a sense of complete sanctuary.
“The Water Lily is both architecture and a living sculpture,” says Richard Coutts. “Imagine holidaying here – it will be so refreshing, pure escapism and unlike anything else that the UK has to offer. It’s been an absolute joy to work on this project and wonderful that the client has been involved at every stage of its evolution.”
About Ashwicken Lake A £35 million investment by Norfolk Farm Leisure will see the 80-hectare site reimagined as a destination for staycations and daytrips where outstanding architectural elements will be elegantly combined with an enhanced and tranquil natural landscape. The resort will feature the UK’s first floating clubhouse offering a spa with pool, a café/restaurant and al fresco waterside dining, all of which will be open to both staying guests and local people. The club will be encircled by 132 contemporary lodges, located on or near the water’s edge and each with a mooring. These lodges will be arranged in clusters, interspersed with new planting, trees, follies and water taxi jetties to create different character across the resort. In addition, there will be 22 treehouses nestled in the woodlands. A range of water and land-based activities will be available to suit all ages.
Ashwicken Lake will benefit from seamless, environmentally responsible design. The proposal is aiming for zero-carbon both in production and operation and areas of nature conservation will deliver a biodiversity net gain. Both the clubhouse and Water Lily are targeting a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.
About Baca Architects Baca Architects was founded in 2003 by Richard Coutts with the aim of integrating landscape and low carbon technology to create beautiful and enduring developments. Since then, the practice has established a core specialism in innovative waterfront design and flood resilience, and Richard has become one of Europe’s foremost experts on designing with water. He is an advisor to the UK government’s Core Cities Floods Advisory Group and is a Fellow, RIBA.
Baca’s current and recent projects include: The Australian Underwater Discovery Centre – Australia’s largest natural marine observatory with underwater dining, slated to open in 2023; a hotel and spa in a new eco-resort in Yorkshire; a waterside eco-resort in Hampshire, currently in planning; a boutique resort for Kent with luxury treehouses and fine dining; the UK’s first multi-dwelling development to be built in a flood zone, located near Stratford Upon Avon; masterplans for several major waterfront regeneration schemes; and a number of private commissions for flood resilient homes, including the Amphibious House as featured on Grand Designs.

The Manor House Refurbishment Journey
Our historic property is now well into its final phase of redevelopment, with the closing chapter of over two years of work focused on the beautiful Grade II-listed Manor House. The building is currently underdoing a complete transformation which will reimagine the original bricks and mortar into a new collection of stunning spaces including 9 spacious bedroom suites, a breathtaking wedding ceremony space, expansive lounges and a private dining room. It’s been a fascinating time for us here at Horwood House, and we wanted to share a little sneak preview of what you can expect when renovations finish later in the year.
Tumblr media
Horwood House has a rich history which dates back across many centuries. Originally a farmhouse (some 300 years ago), the Manor House was upgraded in the early 1900s by Frederick Denny – whose name is honoured by “The Denny” – a pork and apricot croquette – on the menu at Harry’s Bar & Kitchen. However, the building is best known as being the birthplace of the famous gardener, Percy Thrower, who created our famous lily pond and the beautifully manicured Pytheas Gardens that surround the hotel. These gardens have proved to be a rich source of inspiration for the new interior scheme within the Manor’s refurbishment.
When we began planning the renovation of the Manor, we worked closely with our designers, ICA, to start afresh with the interior scheme but to ensure we are in keeping with the building’s original features and reflect the surrounding 38 acres of grounds.
Tumblr media
The colour scheme is light with subtle grey, green and gold accents whilst our carpet has been created specially for us by one of the finest producers in the UK, Oriental Weavers Hospitality.
Our ground floor lounge, layered with rich textures of buttoned leather, paisley prints and plush velvets, will be a luxurious and elegant space, worthy of the special weddings, events and parties that the space will host for years to come. The upper floors of the manor will house 9 stylish suites, each with its own individual character, featuring freestanding baths, grand bay window seating and luxury king-sized beds.
Ensuring our public areas sparkle, leading lighting designers, Imagin Global, have created a number of signature chandeliers for the Manor, inspired by the traditional 19th century heritage lighting found in many stately homes. A statement piece hangs above the Manor’s feature staircase – this showstopping three-tier chandelier is made from steel with a plated finish, features smooth and ribbed glass tubes, and faux candles.
Tumblr media
Finally, in a nod to our history, we have commissioned new artwork for the Manor that explores 1911, the year in which the Manor House as we know it today was built and the landmark events that mark the period, such as the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, along with the publication of “The Secret Garden” and works by the celebrated poet, D.H. Lawrence. 1911 is also the name of our new dining concept, which we hope to launch later this year.
If you’d like to keep up to date with the refurbishment, you can see more behind the scenes content on our Instagram @horwoodhouse – we can’t wait to welcome you to the Manor House soon.
