Dropout Does Nerdy Prudes Must Die
I am a massive Dropout and Team Starkid fan (if the latter isn't obvious enough from looking at my reblogs) and I feel like there's a lot of overlap between the fandoms. My criteria for being considered a "Dropout Person" is anyone who has appeared on a Dropout show at least once, excluding guest appearances (so for example, Monet X Change counts because she's been on one season of D20 and an episode of Um, Actually, but Laganja Estranja doesn't count because she was only a guest on one of the Legally Not Survivor episode of Game Changer)
I will be trying to factor in voice types where I can, but there will be some instances where I just assume the person can sing the part, because I don't know if the person can sing or not. Also, I will be casting each of the individual parts, I know the actors in the OG cast play multiple parts, but there are so many talented people in the Dropout roster that I can cast each part individually.
Please enjoy. Also spoilers for Nerdy Prudes Must Die, I don't think I can talk about this without them. And also for Dimension 20's A Court of Fey and Flowers.
Max Jagerman: Grant O'Brien
I'll be honest, my main motivation for this one is that Grant looks a bit like Will Branner. He does play the heel really well, and I think he would do a great job playing Max, especially his more Freddy Kruger-esque quipping when he's dead.
Also, this is pretty niche, but in an old College Humour year-end video, where they all pick their favourite skits of the year (I think it was like 2018 or 2019?), Grant talks about how he thought it was really funny that in the Jocks and Nerds Both Think They're The Underdogs sketch, he was the closest thing the College Humour cast had to a jock, and this feels pretty similar to that.
Grace Chastity: Anna Garcia
She has a very unhinged "I am short and I will make that everyone else's problem" energy about her that you really need to play Grace. I think she would also do great with the physical comedy needed for the part.
Peter Spankoffski: Omar Najam
Awkward, nerdy guy who falls in love with the baddest bitch in the cast and would die for her. Am I describing Peter Spankoffski or Prince Andhera from A Court of Fey and Flowers? Also I want to hear Omar sing Cool as I Think I Am.
(This is a joke, love Binx but clearly Delloso De La Rue is the baddest bitch in A Court of Fey and Flowers)
Stephanie Lauter: Surena Marie
I don't have a real explanation for this one, this is vibes.
Richie Lipschitz: Ross Bryant
Watching Ross work his way through all the possible nerdy white guy rap options in Game Changer Karaoke cemented for him that he needs to play one of the nerds.
Ruth Flemming: Izzy Roland
A part that requires the performer to be deranged and horny? Call Izzy Roland!
Solomon Lauter: Brennan Lee Mulligan
Any Dimension 20 (or Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited) fan knows, Brennan is amazing at playing callous, cruel and manipulative characters, so Solomon Lauter is right in his wheelhouse.
Wiggly: Josh Ruben
Josh is so good at voices and playing weird characters, I would love to see his take on Wiggly.
Blinky: Erika Ishii
Erika Ishii is absolutely unhinged, I had to cast them as one of the Lords in Black. They could honestly be any one of them, but I picked Blinky because the voice Lauren Lopez does reminds me of Erika.
Nibbly: Lisa Gilroy
This one is also just vibes, but the vibes are correct.
Tinky: Zac Oyama
I am the head of the Zac Oyama As Weird Little Guys fan club, and what is Tinky if not a weird little guy? (who is also a chaotic evil eldritch being)
Pokey: Mike Trapp
I mainly just went off the vibes of the "What do you want Steph?" line, I think Mike would do well.
Detective Shapiro/Female Reporter in Hatchet town: Rashawn Nadine Scott
This is the only one I'm casting two parts, because they're both relatively small (and also I fully forgot that Bryce was not playing Detective Shapiro in Hatchet town until I checked the Genius page lol). Anyway, I think Rashawn would do great at acting as Detective Shapiro, but the main motivation behind this choice is that I want to hear her sing Bryce's part in Hatchet town. She would murder it as hard as Max murders nerdy prudes.
Officer Bailey: Jacob Wysoki
You need someone to chew scenery and throw props? Call Jacob Wysoki, he'll eat it up and go back for seconds
Brenda and Stacy: Jujubee and Monet X Change
I want to see them do the Go Go Nighthawks cheer, I think it would be amazing.
Jason and Kyle: Zeke Nicholson and Ify Nwadiwe
They both seem like the kind of guys to give butt slaps (consensually of course).
Mark and Karen Chastity: Zach Reino and Jess McKenna
They both have Awkward White Parent energy, and I think they would be very funny in this part.
Miss Tessburger: Vic Michaelis
Watching them play Vic Michaelis in Very Important People makes me think they would be great as the haughty assistant.
Miss Mulberry: Katie Marovitch
Katie just has "That nice teacher who lets students eat lunch in her classroom" energy.
Dan Reynolds: Lou Wilson
You need an icon to play an icon.
Emma and Paul : Emily Axford and Brian "Murph" Murphy
Dropout's iconic married couple to play Hatchetfield's iconic couple.
Hard Cuts:
Ify Nwadiwe as Max Jagerman:
He would have slayed the acting, but I assume based on his speaking voice that he's a baritone on the lower end of the range. However, if I am wrong about this and he could sing the tenor part, please treat him and Grant as tied for the part in my eyes.
Ross Bryant as Solomon Lauter
Vic Michaelis as Detective Shapiro
Erika Ishii as Ruth Flemming
Tao Yang as Peter Spankoffski
Jess Ross as Karen Chastity
Jacob Wysoki as Max Jagerman
Wayne Brady as Dan Reynolds
Aabria Iyengar as one of the Lords in Black
Anna Garcia as Blinky
Brennan Lee Mulligan as Wiggly
Lisa Gilroy as Grace Chastity
Grant O'Brien as Solomon Lauter

I made a post about how Emily “my character is guarding this like a German Shepherd” Axford should get to play an actual German Shepherd in some kind of anthropomorphic setting before.
And now that I’m watching Neverafter, I absolutely need more of Zac “I’m a little kitty cat” Oyama playing some type of animal (doesn’t have to be a feline again).
So I’m here to propose to you:
A Lars-centric Mice and Murder spin-off with the Intrepid Heroes.
For one, because Lars is probably my most beloved Ally Beardsley character and I want to see them again, so that would be great.
For another, because Mice and Murder is one of my favorite Dimension 20 seasons - and not just for the chaotic energy of having the College Humor all-star cast play together, but also because I was the most sucked into the story. Brennan’s writing on the mystery was so great, out of all seasons, this was the one I had the hardest time to pause and just... go to bed, because I needed to know how it continued. So I’d love for Brennan to write another mystery and while that could totally happen in any kind of setting, it would be nice to see it under this familiar banner, but with a different set of characters.
Now, obviously, we’d be missing our sly fox. But he got married, so this could be happening during his and Daisy’s honeymoon, or I don’t know. Just, Lars stumbling into a mystery on their own and running into a different line-up of suspects and detectives.
And, thirdly, Lars, as a character, is very much what Emily always describes - a big, strong guard-dog, quite literally. I think there could be fun to be had in Lars getting a kind of rival in such a hypothetical Emily character.

Okay, so this has been in my brain for a while, but.
I love when Lou Wilson and Zac Oyama are in the same actual play show, because their characters so often explore characters in opposite directions.
(Character discussion for main-cast seasons of Dimension 20 and The Ravening War below.)
Lou Wilson often plays characters that are obviously heroically tragic in some way. This is especially apparent in his main-cast seasons of Dimension 20. Fabian Seacaster, son of a banished pirate who can never live up to his father’s ideals and will always be in his shadow. Kingston Brown, healer who has given up everything to protect his city. Amethar, last surviving sibling of his family, trapped in political games that are over his head. Gunnie, a brilliant kid with a dream that came crashing down immediately. Pinocchio, a puppet who can never be good enough to be a real boy.
With these characters, tragedy is obvious and visible from the start. But from there, Lou tends to explore the comedic side of tragic heroism. Almost every one of them has moments where their vision of themselves and the world just does not line up with reality, and comedy ensues. The clearest example is Fabian in Leviathan. Big and boisterous and past thought and reason, Fabian’s grand charge with the warlocks is horrifying, and it’s hilarious. You get the same energy in Gunnie at the casino and Pinnochio talking to Cinderella. Moments that are funny because of their inherent tragedy.
On the other hand, Zac Oyama’s characters are often steeped in inherent comedy. Gorgug, too big for his parents tiny gnome house. Ricky Matsui, Mr. March, whose dark secret is that he wasn’t always a firefighter (because he was a child once.) Lapin Cadbury, crotchety old bunny. Cumulous Rocks, cottoncandy-man of death. Norman Takamori, mean, put-upon, and incompetent space captain. Skip, a slug. Pib, an asshole cat.
Zac’s characters rarely hold the same gravitas as Lou’s at first glance. But the things that make them funny are often revealed to be truly tragic as the story progresses and their depths are explored. I think Ricky’s arc in TUC 2 is the most obvious example of this. What happens when your character is seen as a joke, but you removed the punchline? Ricky wasn’t always a firefighter, and now he isn’t. He isn’t the questing hero. He isn’t anybody. And we get this beautiful three-dimensional exploration of meaning in a character who perhaps seemed flat at first glance. And almost all of Zac’s characters are more than they seem. Lapin. Norman. Skip. Pib.
And once again, in The Ravening War, there’s a mirror in Lou and Zac’s arcs, with Deli starting out heroic, ambitious, filled with purpose, only to be played for a fool (the comic tragedy of his last interaction with Gemelli) and slip into obscurity. Colin, on the other hand, begins in obscurity, a seemingly funny cheese man messing up the clan’s introduction and eating charcuterie with Cleva. By the end, he has the strongest moral dedication of the group, getting the final blow on their enemy and dedicating himself to ridding the world of an evil organization for the rest of his life.
I’m just so happy that the two of them are in the main cast of Dimension 20, that we get to see them play across from each other so often. They’re two of my favorite players, and I can’t wait to see whatever is next for both of them.

😊 Mrs Sidhu Investigates (Suk Pannu, author; full voice cast) - 2 episodes of the BBC Radio 4 program: #1 Murder with Masala; #2 Mrs Sidhu's Dangerous Highland Game - I prefer the slight changes made for the TV show's characterizations but still eminently enjoyable. (Meera Syal still absolutely rules!)
🥰 Lucky Bounce (Cait Nary) - extremely delightful hockey romance. Low/no angst, charming, cutie MCs. Definitely in the 'no plot, just vibes' category which honestly I love when done skillfully.

random notes on naddpod c1 ep 70-100
part three of the list of personal highlighs, shared here in lieu of chewing my very indifferent friends’ ears off irl. For whom it may concern.
spoiler warning! you will get no context but still, massive massive spoilers ahead
That moment where Hardwon almost came back as a gnome tho, right after Murph explains how he left that option in as a joke
The wrestling! Jake and Emily rolling the exact same three times in a row!
so much good parents content in this episode! Also Melora is back, I adore her. The concept of an anti-authoritarian deity is so funny. “No don't listen to me! But do. But don't!”
I’m with Emily, Murph doing Elvish is the actual worst thing to ever happen
“I’ve hit a bit of a rough patch in my relationship but that’s okay because I found a book that lets me kill my dad.” “Everything’s coming up Beverly!”
“You can’t tell us your character’s name, Zac, because they haven’t met you yet.” “And they never will!” “Yeah, I kept telling you they’re not going to the Frigid North but you wouldn’t listen.” “I keep heading north.” “I keep telling you, they’re south, they’re so far south -”
Zac’s characters gaslighting an NPC is always funny. *badly tells a bold-faced lie* “Why would I lie about that?”
“Unsheep him immediately!”
Ren’s laughter is INFURIATING
“Yeah, he lost both contacts. Both contacts just shot out of his eyes when he was giving the speech earlier.”
I cannot for the life of me figure out if any of them are actually good singers or not
Pursuit of Dragon Eggs
Zac “unofficial King of the One-liner” Oyama at it again with the perfect character intro: “Mavrus the Unschooled who… forgot this assignment”
Genuinely I just want to be as effortlessly funny as Zac for a single day. Just to know what it’s like to live like that.
Finally a realistic magical tournament - now with bathroom breaks!
-
Mawmaw is back! I love her so much
Lucanis doting on his newfound daughter is so sweet
“We shall meet at dawn!” “That’s so early, can we do like nine?”
Murph doing out of touch aristocrats (the “SilvONE percent”, Caldwell is on FIRE) is GOLDEN. “Ren, keep working on yourself.” “I won’t.”
The Boobs getting Balnor a mechanical tuna that sings Chasing Cars
Also this might be the first time I’ve seen the DM carrying on a bit for so long it actively stalls the plot, and I loved every dumb second of it
Murph trying to introduce Cooter’s new high eleven girlfriend, fucking up and calling her his wife instead, and having to take that in stride
“Nice cape, my champion.” “Oh, do you like it? I got it expressly to impress you.” HARDWON
“It’s fourteen platinum. I know you have many slides to build.” “Yes, this will go a long way to build the parliamentary water park.”
-
Progressively useless shop links
The bit about them trying to get Murph to give up the cliffhanger while on tour is so funny because a) the idea that Jake would be the one to go looking for Murph’s notes while Emily and Caldwell keep him busy when they are literally IN EMILY’S ROOM and b) that he’d somehow have to try to break in when it is LITERALLY ALSO EMILY’S ROOM
Caldwell calling Murph “Daddy Murphy”, “Daddy DM” and “Teacher” in quick succession while trying to get away with some Classic Beverly Bullshit absolutely sent me
“I’m just gonna keep stabbing at the slit… and think nothing of the implications.” “Thanks, I hate it.” Well so do I, Murph, but you’re the one who gave this group an environment with a slit in it that people can push a sword through so. should have seen that coming a mile off
Of course I’d reach the extremely horny part of this episode while I’m standing in line at the supermarket 🙈
I was starting to think that maybe Murph had finally shaken his dice curse, but then he’s rolling for that fight at the casino with the bullywog and the enchanted sword and I think it’s been going on for like five rounds and neither of them has hit the other
“We should play this for real money.” “Have you seen my husband roll dice?!”
“You killed my beautiful boy!” “Mrs. Rosell?” “No, it’s Ilsed! Context clues, everyone!”
“Poetry or whatever the next level of hell is”
Hardwon’s flashback 😔
BABY PAWPAW
“Moonshine, there’s something about you. Things that don’t belong just… find a way of belonging when you’re around.” is such a knockout of a line. It’s so sweet, it almost made me cry.
Followed directly by “Pawpaw shits into your bib,” of course
“Fungus can’t eat plot armour, right?”
CALDWELL. Hot damn the man is too good at this.
“You killed me, Murphy!” “I have to take a bath! I need to go on a long walk! You ruined my night, Brian!”
“This is the hardest work it would be to bully anyone.” “I wrote a tragic backstory for you, loser!”
Running all three one on one encounters as one encounter is such a good move
“Hey what’s up with your hammer?” “The hammer’s gotten bigger, I have NOT gotten smaller!”
“How far were you from the edge, Moonshine?” “Forty feet. […] You gonna take me to the edge, Hardwon?” “I’ll do my best to get you over the edge, Moonshine.” “…what would you do if you were having sex and they were like, I’m forty feet away?” “I’d be like whoa, that’s pretty far.” “But I can get there with a full dash!” And then nobody, DM included, manages to get through a single sentence including the word edge for the next couple of minutes…
Murph’s gleeful “you guys are pissed at me”
“Hardwon, make out with him!” “I’m recording it on my recording orb.” “…who is this for?”
“I’m a falcon. Can I lift Bev up?” “Absolutely not!” “I’m gonna try anyway.” “You are like Link holding up a chicken. Just running with a flapping bird in one hand.”
Not Murph opening the Ilsed flashback with a full minute on cyclical aesthetic trends in architecture?
“Please don’t be hot, please don’t be hot…” “… a young, hot Ilsed -“ “No!!!” Same Bev. Same.
“You wanted to be special, and you are! It’s rare to find someone stupid enough to make a deal with me but with enough potential that I could still do something good with your body, we’ll done.” That’s brutal
Murph slowly losing his mind as his players debate whether hell is really all bad (“the first layer is like super rad”) and what the purpose of hell is “the purpose is for bad people to torture other bad people and it’s bad and it sucks and it’s hell??”
-
I too am weak for a loyal knight and I melt into a puddle every time Jake and Murph run through their Hardwon and Mawmaw routine
Also this seems as good a time as any to give a round of applause for the “dwarphanage” and “dwarphan” puns. It’s so funny it just never gets old
so amused by how both Jake and Caldwell have called Murph Brian to signal anger
41 to hit?? Is that even a thing?
“Well, my cat was sick and I’m feeling spicy”
“This is an insane dynamic for a twenty-five-year-old to be in the middle of.”
Cooter the Berry Boy
“…did you just quote Lin-Manuel Miranda? […] You shoot this beam of red hot light and it hits this thing and it begins to melt away as you give an insane speech that you took from someone who does not exist in this world.”
Jake’s quiet sob of “that’s plagiarism” in the background
“Yes, my name is ‘Luke Earthier’.” 😬
Murph giving his elves super ridiculous names but then hating when the PCs make fun of them is so funny. He fully played himself
But it’s also very sweet how he will just fully accept their dumb nicknames. Lucanus is Daddy Luke now. Pendergreens hasn’t been called by his actual name for weeks.
Zac, who obviously came in without a prepared intro, trying to come up with a two-liner on the fly and somehow deciding the word he’ll be trying to rhyme with is “Juiblex”
“The thing is, Zac, I wrote sketch with you for like a year, and -“ “We know you’re smart. Is the disappointing thing.”
Random flashforward to Apple and Cooter, lone survivors of the apocalypse, in a Denny’s in Shadowfell
“Trees are beautiful and cool, that’s one of the first things you learn as a Green Teen!” “He’s right! Trees are cool and you suck!”
“You get non-lethally Boromir’d”
absolute cruelest answer to whether the NPC was deceived by a 13 deception check: “Hey, man. Maybe.”
Emily forcing ridiculous world building on her DM, truly The Axford Move: “Take that hat off and debate me!” “Alright, you take that vest off!” “…do I have a vest on?”
*threatening reer* is an underrated Pawpaw noise
That cliffhanger at the end of Ep. 88 and the outrage
“We’re all gonna jump you after this!” “There’s so many of us here, man!” “We’re gonna box your ass, we’re gonna mail it to… to Spain!”
“You can listen to people threatening to put my ass in a box on the Short Rest -” “Hey, no. I’m only gonna celebrate your ass.”
“Murph. My hat has telekinesis, right?” “Yeah?” “Can I use my telekinesis to control the sphere that we just received from Akarot?” “…Yeah.” “Okay, sweet, I’m going to fling this Sphere of Chomping Shit Up with my telekinesis.” Murph, apparently remembering in this very moment he’s DMing for Emily “I disguise myself as him” Axford: “Oh no.”
Bev and Erlin pull a full “here at the end of all things”
Jeez this episode is just the Emily and Murph drama hour. She’s leaving her possum! I am upset!!
Cobb’s “would this be a bad time to invite you to my improv show” was perfectly timed
“I assume the horse of Famine is stalking me, so I put out a plate of food for it every night. To be hospitable.” EMILY!!!
“It’s this vendetta that this horse has for me.” “...do you think maybe the rider also has something to do with it?” (this in reference to the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse)
I love how Murph is making progressively scarier villains and the boobs just flatly refuse to take them even a little seriously
“Everybody wake the fuck up, Death is here! Like actual fucking Death?!” is almost as funny as Bev’s “Rise and shine, we’re in the shit again!” from the Galaderon arc
“The horses we ride were all killed by you!” 10/10 callback, no notes
“The end is nigh! Bird for sale! The end is nigh!”
Jake asks Murph to rate everyone based on looks, immediately regrets it when Murph ranks him fourth, after himself
Emily plugging the podcast itself on its 96th episode
Them workshopping Caldwell’s intro rhyme on air for several minutes, then finally getting the recap started only for Emily to interrupt Murph after half a sentence to point out he “says ‘dragon’ cute”
I’m still not over the shock that the “what an honour. what an injustice.” quote is from this podcast. Damn. (Also I somehow really expected that to be a Caldwell line.)
Tumblr media
“You must understand, I’m under a tremendous amount of pressure, I can’t tell when people are joking.” Oh the line between Murph and Melora is growing thin
“You see yourself outsmarting Josh and turning his entire army against him, you turning Akarot’s steed into a dolphin, outing Balnor as the witch in the Autumn Court trials... Just a supercut of Murph whomps.”
“Hey man, I know I haven’t said this in a while, but fuck you!”
Hardwon fighting Jaina, Mawmaw and Old Cobb but barely fighting back is just plain tragic
“Peepaw, is this another lesson? Is this a lesson I’m not understanding the meaning of?” “Moonshine, this is because I’m disappointed in you!” Murph is taking no prisoners this ep, noted.
“It’s good. I think you’re good. You’re smart, you’re a great storyteller, and you’re mean! You’re a bad guy.” I love that this is both a joke and the greatest praise a writer can receive
“That is the wraith on the red horse’s turn. He is a dolphin. The dolphin on the bigger dolphin flops. In Hell.” again, NO respect for Murph’s apocalyptic riders
a brief and nearly incomprehensible aside about Meatloaf songs (whose political views WERE problematic but whose songs 100 percent occupy the exact aesthetic of this batshit insane scene)
Murph picked the worst Meatloaf song tbh
honestly my main gripe with Pendergreens is I cannot fucking understand him and that hurts my pride. please this is my second language
.
i love how religiously Emily is keeping Deadeye’s memory alive throughout this, it’s so sweet
Moonshine and Meemaw on the grandma tree </3
“I didn’t have you until I was 350 years old. By that time, I had already lost Marabelle. And here, now I got you. Now I got another sister.” this whole conversation is so perfect, but I really really love this part, it’s so lovely to acknowledge how your relationship to your parents can evolve over a lifetime (especially one as long as this)
Emily’s delight at finding the critter refugee colony in the grandma tree is so pure
Murph bringing back Caldwell’s worst Green Teen creation as a wholesome jamboreen campfire memory
and one last Cawcaw sighting
what is it with the entire d20 cast and fem characters with that half-shaved/undercut hairstyle. legit every time they want to make a fem character particularly cool they give them that haircut
not Murph trying to sus out Hardwon’s deal with Moonshine once and for all in the penultimate episode by any means necessary
“’I’ll just... get another brewsky, and then I’ll meet you... behind the tree in... t -5.’ And then Hardwon does a weird moonwalk away.”
Bev goofs one last time and once again falls from a great height
I want Denny’s “whelp, I’m alive!” as a soundbite
“What are the others up to? Are they in danger?” “... how old are you?” “Sixteen!” “.....they’re hangin’ out.”
"Can we say that what I did to Jaina was a sort of religious experience and counts as a zealous trance” is definitely one of the funniest things Murph has let Emily get away with
“Congratulations, y’all. You fucked in DnD”
.
Jake almost crying in his (presumably) last intro as Hardwon
Murph laying it on unexpectedly thick and Emily struggling to follow that up with the very silly intro she prepared
“One hour [of going down on someone] isn’t taking your time??”
One last Somber Boy Song! and what a song it was, damn, Caldwell!
“He has such a haunting boy voice! It feels like he’s just alone in an abandoned church.”
“No, I don’t intend to join you [in your fight against a god], mylady. You are a demigod. I am a butler.”
“Do you guys think the Gods were scared when people looked to them?” “If they weren’t, they weren’t doing it right.”
“Here’s what I’d like to do, Murph: I would like to blow the Horn of Valhalla, bring out these berserkers, and then I would like to, on the thinking cap, cast Conjure Woodland Creatures and conjure eight pixies, and I’d like to put four of them in the Bag of Holding and use four of them to cast Fly on four of the berserkers which then I will cast Animal Shapes on, using my own concentration, to turn them into elephants, and we can go into battle on flying elephants. .... Just let me know if you want to leave me.” I have found my new favourite Emily moment. Jesus Christ. Her getting through that wild plan so businesslike and then “just let me know if you want to leave me” in that defeated tone took me OUT
underrated reason to bring back an old enemy for the finale: he’s the most annoying and everyone hates his guts
“Hardwon, you take a sick 69 psychic damage”
“The actual God looks hurt. She’s upset, I’m upset. But don’t worry, everyone, it is my turn.”
“That brings me down the same way my old man went down.” aka Jake sends the DM into an emotional crisis with a single sentence.
“You briefly fix his deviated septum.” now that’s just cruel
Handy Andy playing a vital role in the final fight makes me so happy, Deadeye helped! Posthumously!
“Hardwon, you struggle, but you get through the words… Table… of… Contents” cause of death: this
“Your god is a pro wrestler” OH MY GOD OF COURSE HE IS. Emily cracked it
“It’s okay, Balnor. Like all the most powerful things in the world, I knew I was only borrowing you.”
Hardwon coming into Shadowfell with unimaginable amounts of dirty laundry: “Moooooooom!”
Hardwon meets his dad :(
Murph really has the “emotionally repressed Dad” routine down pat
“Thank you so much, I sent [the Thinking Cap] through the dry cleaner’s, so it should be all good.” “Dijuana was killed by the dry cleaners.” “You were not supposed to get it wet.” “Yeah, something screamed in there they said, I don’t know.”
Another Jamboreen! And it’s about to probably get cancelled again with another Pebblepot in charge! Time is flat circle
“You see Cran grabs the counsellor, ‘Are you a Pebblepot? You have to tell me if you’re a Pebblepot!!’“
“I cast Conjure Animals and create... what would a dragon eat?” “It would for sure eat like a sheep?” “Oh no, that feels so cruel!” “But you’re creating it, it’s like... it’s a Beyond burger. Beyond Sheep.”
Of course Moonshine accidentally created a Crick dragon
Hardwon gets a fixer-upper in the Crick
I cannot believe Murph managed to pay off that horrendous hotel room scene, and how! Incredible. No notes.
-
This doesn’t strictly go here but if you go on IMDb, everyone but Zac is officially credited with their silly homebrew DM titles. Like Murph is credited as “Direct Messenger (Dungeon Master)”. I discovered this on a very stressful day and it delighted me to no end.

I'm late but what/who is aso?
buckle up, nonnie. i'm about to be insufferable.
aso is short for a starstruck odyssey. it's an actual-play ttrpg campaign show season that's a part of a larger show, dimension 20 (d20) by dropout (formerly collegehumor).
the campaign is based on a pre-existing setting - the starstruck comic series by elaine lee & michael kaluta, and run using the sw5e system (similar to dnd). gm'ed by the one and only brennan lee mulligan (fun fact: brennan is elaine's son!!!), and with d20's main recurring players: emily axford, zac oyama, siobhan thompson, lou wilson, ally beardsley, and brian murphy.
aso is, in summary, idiots in space dnd.
it follows a spacer crew, the wurst, through a bunch of space shenanigans. we've got a sex gun robot discovering identity, a supersoldier clone, water alien in a mlm, cyborg engineer in medical debt, girlboss extraordinaire who started a rebellion, and norman "skip" takamori. they're all dumb and hot.
like a lot of dnd shows (as is the nature of the game) it's hard to explain a main 'premise' because there's a lot going on and it's improv. but some of the major plot patterns are beginning to appear - mostly the aforementioned rebellion of a moon owned by a corporation, being wanted by a few different factions, and the wurst crew doing jobs for money. but there's a lot, a lot, that's also going on. this show is buckwild, completely insane, and that's exactly what's so good about it. there's a billion moving parts - sid being a prototype android replaced by a new line, barry syx and barry nine who killed the other barry clones, the whole pleasure putty mlm schtick, gunnie's paying to be alive, marge's mixed up love life and reddit, and uh. norman. continually no spoilers on that one.
a lot of messy issues being grappled and explored in a lawless, chaotic galaxy... and it's just pure fun. i always love the different dynamics that come out of d20, and honestly aso might be my favorite campaign that i've seen so far. and aso is fucking hilarious. period
it's just a show that i've been enjoying very much and like a normal amount. there's 18 episodes (at the time of this post, we're at 5) that release every wednesday, so it's just been something that keeps me going and gives me something to look forward to every week!
you can watch the first episode here on d20's youtube! unfortunately, they're not planning on uploading the full season there (it's on dropout or paid on youtube only), but if you are interested in d20 as a whole fantasy high freshman year, unsleeping city, and escape from bloodkeep are up on yt, and a lot of the premier episodes of the other campaigns are as well. but honestly, i pay about $5 a month for dropout, on which aso is only 1 of several of my favorite ongoing shows now, and it makes me really happy to be supporting them.
but yeah! that's my little aso primer. now you know what i'm screaming about all the time

sup sola for those character asks you KNOW I'm asking about ricky or Gorgug (dealer's choice)
gty jules ilysm! also sike, hope it’s okay that this dealer loves both of these boys too much and chose BOTH
ricky
favorite thing about them: asian american superman becomes absolute dork around his crush is THE SHIT what’s not to love about mr. march least favorite thing about them: this is such a minor quibble and also zac oyama is such a team-focused player but i wish he had more of an arc beyond esther/we got to meet more of his family esp bc we know they’re important to him? tl;dr the thing i like least about ricky is the lack of ricky favorite line: “i wanna know if you want me to know.” brOTP: ricky & pete workout buddies all dayyyy OTP: rickyesther!! <3 nOTP: i do not understand polyships where ricky and rowan specifically are dating each other (even w/i a larger polycule), don’t feel strongly about it but i just don’t get it? random headcanon: ricky’s a really good cook but it only comes out a couple times a year when he can be convinced to make something that’s not, like, boiled chicken (esther can convince him more often)! also is the kind of person who wants exact recipe quantities for everything which if you know anything about asian cooking you will know drives his parents nuts unpopular opinion: don’t super love that the first thing esther said abt ricky post-cursebreaking was “he’s so hot/i want to fuck him so bad” idk the amount of emotional connection doesn’t feel super reciprocated at first because it’s so sexual? 🤷could just be my aroace talking though song i associate with them: i choose you by adam melchor is a rickyesther song, methinks favorite picture of them: smooches!
gorgug
favorite thing about them: he gets to be soft and also strong and also smart and those parts work together they are not opposites! least favorite thing about them: as much as i respect mr. oyama’s work there’s no way this boy is straight favorite line: “it’s gorgug keep going” is a classic but honestly my true favorite is either “you’ll never be half the boat my van is!” or “my girlfriend’s killing him inside”  brOTP: gorgug and kristen! relationship woes solidarity, dead kids solidarity, himbo/lesbian solidarity! OTP: gorgug/zelda/ragh, ragh is gay obviously but he and zelda are best buds! nOTP: gorgug has many hands and i don’t really feel strongly about any particular nOTP but gorgug/fabian doesn’t majorly interest me as a writer? have read a whole bunch of it though.  random headcanon: loves artificing little mechanical animals, has a running joke with zelda and ragh where he sneaks them into zelda’s hair/down the back of ragh’s shirt to scare them :D unpopular opinion: 🤷 song i associate with them: gentleman by will jay :D favorite picture of them: is it weird to say it’s one of yours? closed eyes floopy hair smiley face blunt tusks gorgug is my favorite, specifically this one
ask me things! from the characters ask meme

What is Dimension 20? -🧡
It's a wonderful show by some of the collegehumor cast, on a website called Dropout. (which is a joke that took me an embarrassingly long time to get so in case you're as slow as i am, they "dropped out", like dropping out of college. I know, im a genuis.)
In this show, seven friends play a new DND campaign every season, with shorter campaigns featuring guest players in between the official seasons. The shorter campaign seasons are called sidequests and they're equally fun, my suggestion is if you have a hard time getting into things that span across a longer timeframe, start with the sidequests.
The DM, Brennan Lee Mulligan, is one of my favourite people on earth currently, no exaggeration. He's everything i aspire to one day be as a DM, that is, if i ever actually start DMing like i plan to.
The cast is also delightful. Emily Axford and Brian Murphy are couple goals and funny as hell, Ally Beardsley is a chaotic nb icon, Siobhan Thompson is amazing in so many ways i love her so much, Lou Wilson is the coolest person I've ever seen and has some of the best lines and my fave characters, and Zac Oyama. What can i say about Zac "the snack" Oyama that hadn't already been said? (Except for "the snack", pretty sure i just made that up but im definitely not the first who thought about it.) Honestly Zac is adorable and until very recently was known for playing himbo characters. Anyway i love the entire cast so much i could gush about them forever.
In the sidequests they've had so far a season where the party are all the big bad guy's most powerful minions, featuring Erika Ishii and Matthew Mercer, and a season where all the characters are various tiny creatures living in the backyard of a small family's house, featureing all the McElroys! Yes, including Clint!
The main seasons involve DND but its a John Hughes High School Movie, Urban Fantasy set in NYC, and what if Game of Thrones was Candyland VS Vegitales.
And all three of those have major themes of the church is a scam and fuck capitalism.
Some of it is already fully uploaded to YouTube so you don't even have to sign up to dropout. (You should, imo, but i know that's not a possibility for everyone so im just saying you don't have to.)
So in conclusion, it's pretty good, please go watch it.

my sample size is comparatively tiny but i’d like to think i’ve written a decent amount of fic recently! and that i have A Type (did you know that every single d20 fic i’ve written contains at least one scene during the late night/early morning?) so i thought it’d be fun to make a bingo card!
(yes, i know this is not what “fic bingo” usually means. nevertheless!)
mostly to just laugh at myself but also if ppl wanted to think abt what their own fic reading/writing preferences would be like as a bingo card, or even see if you can get bingo on this one either with what you read or what you write! this feels like it should be a tag meme but i feel weird just tagging people, but feel free to do this w your own work/preferences!! it’d be cool!
[id: a bingo card entitled “solasola’s fic bingo” with 25 squares in a five-by-five grid. the background is white and the squares are separated by thin light grey lines.
row 1: friendship fic; zac oyama character centric; character sits in a way/place not meant for sitting; italics; m/f ship but like. bi.
row 2: character lists things they know/want/are; sentence starts with conjunction; parentheses; hurt/comfort; messing with someone’s hair = love language
row 3: did some random research, no sign of it in fic; texting; one sentence uses the word “and” 3+ times (free space); 4+ word lowercase title; late night/early morning
row 4: non canon friendship dynamic i put into the fic without explanation; 4k word sweet spot; the phrase “drag out of yourself”; comma splices; soft n domestic
row 5: post canon; written mostly between 11pm and 1am; food or kitchens as metaphor; dnd mechanics/crunch as metaphor; npc centric]
