Therian: Someone that identifies as an animal on a non-physical level.

Theriotype: The animal that a therian identifies as.

Otherkin: Someone that identifies as a non-earthen being. (non-physical)

Species dysphoria: Feeling dis-comfort with being human.

Alterhuman: Feeling non-human.

Poly therian: Having multiple theriotypes.

Mental shifts: Having the mindset of your theriotype.

Phantom shifts: Feeling an animal limb that isn't there.

Con therian: A therian that doesn't experience shifts.

Sun theiran: A therian that is constantly shifting.

Cladotherian: Not having a specific theriotype.

(ex: Canine instead of wolf)

“why are all therians 10-15 year old white girls” 1. plenty of us aren’t girls you either don’t realize that or are just transphobic 2. plenty of us aren’t white and while there is a large community of white therians a lot of therians are based in the USA canada and europe all white-dominated countries, as well as this poc such as myself may struggle to identify themselves as therians due to already facing ostracism due to being poc and not wanting to further ostracize themselves 3. there are a ton of older therians out there but a large population of them don’t use social media or don’t use popular social media like tiktok or tumblr, otherkin have been around since the 70s there’s bound to be elders out there 4. bites you (negative)

Different Branches of Therianthropy/ Otherkinity

So I just spent an hour researching different branches of otherkinity/therianthropy, here's what I learned and how I can describe it best (please don't get mad if I fucked something up, just tell me and I'll fix it)

Cladotherian: May identity as one type of animal but doesn't identity with one species of that animal, and instead identifies with all or none at all. Example: Identifies as a wolf but not a specific type, but rather all of them.

Contherian: Someone who doesn't experience mental shifts but is in a constant state of balance of their kintype and humanity and it doesn't fluctuate. They are constantly around half human and half animal and that's integrated into them.

Suntherian/Syntherian: Very similar to a contherian, however it's not always an exact balance and instead at one point they can be more animal than human and vice versa they also may experience mental shifts.

Copingkin: Identifying as something, involuntarily, to cope with something.

Copinglink: Identifying as a fictional character knowingly and willingly to cope with something.

Otherhearted: Feeling an insanely strong connection with an animal to the point where you fully understand and relate to it but you do not identify as it but rather identify with it.

Kinfluid: By itself (polykinity not being involved) fluid feelings of humanity and your alterhumanity coming in waves almost

Polytherian: someone who identifies with more than one species of animal Example: Identifying as a domestic cat, leopard gecko, and arctic fox. (Although two is enough to identify as polytherian)

Shapeshifterkin: someone who has a kintype that's constantly shifting but also prominent and can identify as it

Polymorphkin: someone who doesn't fully identity as any one kintype and they may have a kintype that is more prominent but for them it can change at anytime and for anything they may connect with it can be in completely different ways

My big cat and canine theriotypes have been giving me mixed shifts all week and WOW, never thought I'd be able to say I've been an African painted dog and a liger/ tigon (what comes from a lion and a tiger getting "friendly") simultaneously until now lol

I've also been a wolf/ coyote (I wasn't sure of which at the time) and a bobcat mix, and a cheetah and maned wolf mix, all of which made me feel complete somehow. Maybe I really need to balance my energy and try to equally emulate the feline and the canine or find more animal coat patterned clothing?

Although I will warn you that I do not tolerate intolerance. There are opinions and then there are threats and it doesn't take a genius to figure out which one transphobia or any other sort of hate are.

This is a therian/otherkin-centered blog with a side of plurality. If you have a problem with that, please see yourself out. My fur is too grey to put up with that BS.

I don't care how your system formed. If you're a system, you're a system. I'm not going to question your understanding of yourself. I expect you to trust me to know myself and therefore I will trust you to know yourself.

I am willing to answer questions on most topics. That's how people learn and I've been around long enough in enough marginalized communities to be fine with questions. Just ask them respectfully.

I've not seen these terms anywhere so

Sunfictionkin/Sunotherkin A fictionkin/otherkin whose kintype (primary or sole kintype) is integrated into their baseline personality. Not to be confused with being a kin of the sun.

As a sunfictionkin, I see the cereal mascot Boo Berry as my default mode. I originally used the word permashift, but that implies I don’t kinshift to different kins, since the “perma” means permanent.

The terms sunfictionkin and sunotherkin are the same as suntherian expert they're for different kinds of kintypes!

idk if this is just a me thing or a me faking thing (the imposter syndrome lolz) but I’m a contherian* and i don’t always identify too strongly with the animal part of me . like it’s there but it just feels like it takes a backseat. and when i interact with stuff related to my theriotypes like watch nature videos or play with my dog or something the Therian Feeling gets like 80% stronger. like i can feel phantom tail and ears and shit, want to bark, wanna run around on all fours - could just be a shift thing but idk. Help appreciated y’all

*for those unfamiliar, contherian means a therian whose human identity exists at the same time as their therian identity. They are both human and nonhuman at the same time essentially.

discipline is a huge thing for me as a dog alterhuman.

i enjoy school activities that expect me to behave by a specific set of rules (eg model united nations). i like being held to a high standard on my mannerisms and formal attire. i love it when i need permission to speak or to get up. i feel like a working dog when i put on my serious face, when i have my arms perfectly placed on my lap and my back perfectly straight, just breaking the pose to rearrange my tie or my badge.

i want everyone in the room to know that i am a fucking machine trained to kill at this one specific activity. they might be good at it, but i am a k9 unit and my only job this moment is to sit still look scary, to speak on command and be as outstanding as possible with my assertive words and timed gestures. and they dont know i love every minute.

any other nonhumans can relate, or completely disagree? please tell me about your experiences.

Hi. I was wondering if there was a label for when you're kin fluid? Like, you feel human but you also feel like the thing/character/etc you are 'kin with?

Otherkin is indeed the word; there’s nothing about otherkinity that says you can’t also be human (many if not most of us are, myself included), and experiencing a “sliding scale” of that is also extremely common (again, same hat). As far as I know there’s no specific word for it, simply because there hasn’t needed to be.
