Man, another scene for the books is this Taiyou vs. Devilbats scene in the ES21 Tagalog Dub:

Hiruma says something cryptic and complicated like "Eyeshield's number 21 always faces forward."

In the SCRIPT, Sena's supposed to think, "What's he talking about?"

But in the DUB, he says, "Ano na namang pinagsasasabi nitong si Youichi?"

Which, in English, translates more accurately to: "What the hell is Youichi yapping on about now?!"

More Filipino dub Good Omens goodness! The first one I talked about is here.

Another example in S2E4 is when Crowley thanks Aziraphale for agreeing to do the magic show, and Aziraphale replies - with some hesitation in the middle of his sentence - that "that's what... friends... are for."

In the Filipino dub, Aziraphale says "ganoon ang... magka... ibigan."

But unlike in the original English script, the pauses in the sentence - to convey hesitation - are not between words. The Filipino dub instead has Aziraphale split a word into two. The word, when pronounced correctly, is "magkaibigan", but Aziraphale splits the word into "magka" and "ibigan". In my opinion, this is more than just a choice in diction.

"Friend", in Tagalog, is translated to "kaibigan", whose root word is "ibig", which means "love".

So, when the word is split the way Aziraphale stated it in the dub, it becomes another word: ka-ibigan. And it changes meaning from "friend" to "lover".

Liveblogging Savage Sena again from the Tagalog Dub, bcs HE STRIKES AGAIN

In Ep. 34, the Death March Arc:

In the subs above, he says, "And you're trying out for the pros? That's just too much!"

But in the Tagalog Dub he exclaims, "Tapos susubukan mo na agad pumasok sa pagiging pro? OKEY KA LANG?!"

The difference says it all in the last sentence. If you translate the sentence "Okey ka lang?!" word per word, the translation would be "Are you okay?!"

But with the additional context provided in this situation, the more ACCURATE translation of the Tagalog Dub would be:

• You aren't right in the head!

• Is something wrong with your brain?

When said aloud, "Okey ka lang?!" also implies the following:

• Are you stupid?

• You aren't thinking straight!

• There's something wrong with you!
