on wednesday i did my first activity with the hostel ! i woke up at 7 AM, had octopus and green tea for breakfast. at 10AM we headed out with our tour guide, anastasia (a german expat) to the tankah beach resort that also hides a small cenote. we took a collectivo to get there. on the collectivo i met doyeon from south korea, sarah lou and mona from nice. we talked excitedly about being in mexico and tulum. i wasn’t that excited for the beach resort but i was eager to see and plunge into the cenote. when whe arrived anastasia, who’s been living in mexico for a year now, told us that she and her friends have found ways to go to cenots without paying the entrance fees. i, obviously, immediately asked her to hook me up on the techniques. we walked along a beautiful path that cut through the jungle, we saw iguanas and even caught sight of a fawn !! we skipped the beach and went straight to the cenote. the energy immediately stilled and the water called for us to jump inside it’s sweetness and calmness. everything softened once my skin touched the water. my body and soul were singing a docile melody, reacting to the revitalizing forces of the cenote. we stayed for an hour inside the cenote. we then headed to the beach where we bathed in the sun and ate overpriced tacos, lol. anastasia left us to go tend to her things. me, the girls and doyeon headed back to the cenote. the girls then told me that they intended to visit tulum’s mayan ruins and asked if i wanted to join ! we took a collectivo to the ruins. here ensues a part that i would like to redact for i refuse to consider myself a stupid tourist (spoiler : i am). basically : we got scammed. we knew we were getting scammed but still… my god complex is never getting over this. anyways… we walked through the ruins for 40 minutes. it was really cool seeing the vestiges of one of the most power civilisations that ever existed (in my humble opinion please don’t insert yours). after walking through the ruins we headed to the coast where we were to take a boat tour followed with snorkeling !! please note that during this time in tulum the beaches are being invaded by seaweed. so the guide took us to the coral reef where we put on our tuba masks and dived into the water to swim with the motherfucking turtles !!! oui je suis une iencli !! les rumeurs sont vraies !!! i was so fucking ecstatic. i just forgot that i was an awful swimmer and even though we had life jackets we still had to put effort into keeping up with the boat and the guide. i got to see stringrays, fishes and tuuuuurtles. then i had a panic attack in the water because i kept drinking the salt water and my brain decided that i was drowning lol. cue me shouting for help, being dragged onto the boat by a mum who was staying with her baby and sitting embarrassed af for the rest of the ride. i got over my embarrassment when the others confirmed that they were struggling against the current too. after the snorkeling we headed back to the hostel. on the way back to the collectivo, me and doyeon got absolutely violated my the mosquitoes but we didn’t mind because i was giving him a 101 lesson on reggaeton which is far more important than potentially catching a deadly disease, actually. back in the hostel we got showered then we headed out for diner in the centre of tulum. dinner was good with different animations hosted by locals ! i won’t describe them so we can all stay under the illusion that i’m not a stupid tourist lol. after dinner we tried to find a place to dance reggaeton in order to initiate doyeon to it’s beauty. we found a rooftop and danced there for two hours while drinking once again, overpriced cocktails. moral of the story is : raïssa you know you’re not a dumb tourist but sometimes it’s fun to be a dumb tourist.
