Terukaneaoi murderers au! Heavily inspired by @pedi-bug's Camp AU
warning: ooc, murder, violence.
Tumblr media
Set in 1991, in a world with no ghosts.
Teru is part of a mercenary family, if a Minamoto gets paid, they kill, and because of this upbringing, he doesn't value human life, with the exception of his family's lives. He longs for playtime with kids his age and attending parties but he doesn’t have the time, he tries his best to have fun on the job instead, developing sadistic tendencies over the years: if he can't laugh with someone, hearing them scream and beg for mercy will do just fine.
It's a bad habit of his, to torture his targets, the clan finds it a nuisance since a quick kill is far less risky and efficient, but Teru is good at taking people to isolated places and making others believe the death was caused by some wild animal, so his bosses reluctantly let him do as he pleases. It annoys them, and the clan knows Teru knows, but he get all his jobs done, they can't do much about it.
He kills animals sometimes (except cats cause his family owns one and he doesn’t want to kill something that reminds him of his family) but doesn't make a habit out of it, aware his public image need to be trustworthy. He loves praises, so he is a little happy to have fans, he encourages attention and is so loved that no one ever suspects him.
Aoi's family is just her and her mom, she doesn't make any friends but she has been drowning in admirers from a young age. Aoi doesn't like violence (she doesn't like to get hurt) so when she is cornered by the kindergarten bullies and forced into dating the 'king of the playground', she holds hands, gets hugged, and follows the boy around, but she hates being a trophy, she wants to die, she wants to squash her 'boyfriend' like the bugs in her garden, like her mom had gotten rid of her dad.
She puts rat poison on her boyfriend's drink and says is a gift. He dies. She is in shock at first, she only wanted to make him sick, not kill him, but it feels oddly pleasant to go to the kid's funeral, as if she has some control of other people’s life, as if it proved a point that despite her frail body and lack of ambition, she really is above those people.
She wanted to kill someone again but mom said she got lucky she is too young to be suspected, she should stop. She promised her mom she wouldn't kill again but she goes back on her word pretty quickly, unhappy about her life. She didn’t want to get caught though, so she aimed to kill someone that is not perceived as related in any way to her.
Teru caught Aoi in the act when she is fourteen, he is intrigued, able to tell she isn’t trained. They occasionally ran into each other in the dead of the night.
Teru is infuriating to Aoi, she hates how easily he can find her, how incompetent he makes her look, she hates him. She had felt ashamed when she killed her first adult and couldn't get rid of every evidence fast enough, so Teru had to help her, saving her from being caught. Sometimes he gives her murder tips, happy he can talk with someone about his job, even if Aoi doesn’t share his passion for blood, preferring clean murders, usually poison based, her talks about flowers and the ways she occasionally relates gardening with murder (both give her the power to decide if a living being will flourish or die) makes him curious.
Their meetings are the closest thing to a game Teru has ever played, he loves to find who her next target is, and try to end them before her. It is frowned upon in his clan to kill without being financially compensated for it but 'playing' with Aoi left him happy enough to finish his kills quickly, no longer going out of his way to destroy all his targets.
One day they are sent to a summer camp and Aoi sets her eyes on the son of the owner, a friendly boy who helps everyone in need with a smile, so kind, so determined, so lovable, he is everything she wishes she could be, even his name, Akane Aoi, seemed to mock her.
She wants him dead.
Akane is rarely alone, he is perceptive and smart, but Aoi wasn’t too worried at first, noticing he is a trusting fool and well aware people love to help a cute and delicate girl, it would be easy to pretend she is having trouble with something and isolate him where he could have a tragic accident.
Unfortunately for her, Akane gets wary of her and teru way more easily than anyone else, eager to help but keeping their interactions short from the get go.
It’s odd.
Aoi is frustrated, she never liked to work too hard, but at this point it would be a bruise to her ego if she gave up. She tried inviting him to paint her nails, having prepared toxic paint to do his nails back, but he picked the same nail polish color as hers so they matched, she tried to drug his drink but he always seemed to notice when it got spiked, throwing it away.
Teru is intrigued by the challange, he calls Akane to help build his tent and tries to lure him with manual jobs to separate him from the group, but his plans never quite work, Akane doesn't get tired no matter how much he works, he doesn't hesitate to call Teru out on task he should be able to complete on his own, and is too fast to fall in any traps. He also sees better than Teru in the dark, a very rare feat.
It's the first time a mutual target lasted more than a week, and the two talk about it a lot, even if Aoi refuses any of Teru's offers to team up, she does agree to share any information they get on him.
Akane is a half-blood vampire in an era where vampires are basically instinct. He can age, go in the sun, and eat human food, his retractable fangs helping him feel like a normal boy, but he still craves blood and his senses are inhuman, he cannot help but feel dazed and suspicious of Aoi and Teru. He thinks Aoi is really cute and sweet, so he drops his guard with her sometimes, being genuine and gentle with her, but his guard always comes back when he catches a hint of poison under her flowery scent.
Teru smells like blood, the mercenary has been so soaked in it since he was a child that it became a part of his scent, he cannot fool a vampire’s nose. He kills wild animals during camp sometimes, and Akane never catches him in the act but he can smell it, it drives him crazy, he wants to bite Teru so bad that he avoids him, his wariness mixed with hunger. Teru can feel his eyes on him, and he is as wary as he is intrigued by the attention Akane gives him, which is different from the strange switch between favoritism and distrust he has with Aoi.
Aoi is conflicted when Akane reprimands anyone who harasses her and shows genuine worry for her well being, yet refuses to have a hike alone with her, it bothers her to the point she finds herself fake smiling less to catch his attention every time she tries to poison him. Teru gets easily attached to Akane, cause the boy can fight well and he heals fast when Teru hurts him. Akane is willing to play even the most basic of games with him too, and many of his murder attempts get pushed aside so they can play hopscotch, a more violent version of tag, 'never have I ever', and many other games he had heard his peers play years ago.
He forces Akane to stay with him a lot, much to the vampire's displeasure, so Akane kills some animals to satiate his thirst, throwing their corpses in the lake so the drained bodies don't scare anyone.
Akane realizes they are only trying to kill him out of the whole camp, so he is convinced they know he is a half vampire, and feels a little anxious that they will out him. He also thinks Aoi and Teru are dating since they disappear together many times and come back without smelling of murder or poison, but he isn't sure, he is mostly confused by whatever their relationship is.
In two weeks Teru and Aoi are already attached to Akane, their murder attempts are more half-hearted.
They realize Akane has a big weakness when a hiking accident results in an ugly cut on a camper’s leg. Akane is very hesitant when bandaging the camper, hyperventilating at the sight of so much blood and clearly distracted, excusing himself later and claiming the sight of blood can make him sick.
Aoi doesn't like to get hurt, but Teru does not hesitate to cut himself while peeling an orange to test Akane's claim, amazed by the way Akane got even more dazed and anxious with him than with the injured camper, to the point others got worried, and Lemon decided to be the one to bandage Teru so his friend could calm down.
The two are hit with a golden way to kill Akane, but they procrastinate it, deciding to kill their friend on the last day of camp. Is not like they'll see him again after camp even if he stays alive after all.

I think teru would be angry at his parents but not know exactly what he’s mad about. He’s aware that they’ve hurt him in some way but he doesn’t really care to read into it much more than that. Since he isn’t aware that his parents’ abandonment of him is bad, he thinks that the reason for him being upset is just like ✨teenager things✨ and is similar to his friends’ complaints about their parents. Which it definitely isn’t. The awakening lab kids are concerned for him…

Akane is the only character to have ever been explicitly shown to both enjoy being alive and value life as a whole.
Ghosts envy the living, they crave life, but despite hanging out with ghosts all the time and feeling their envy, many human characters don’t seem to appreciate life.
Nene and Kou are optimists, genuinely kind people, but they can be insensitive in their naivety. They recognize Hanako killing someone is “a bad thing” but that seems to be the most they allow themselves to process. If possible, they will push the knowledge Hanako is a killer far away.
Tumblr media
When his kill is brought up, they try to justify his actions, jumping at the opportunity to forgive him. They don’t consider the act of taking someone’s life away a deal breaker, like Hanako does, because the act is not as heavy when you don’t fully treasure life.
Kou has been able to see spirits since young so the idea of death is muddier for him. Still, he lost his mom, was deeply troubled by Nene’s lifespan, and had Mitsuba vent in tears about how envious he is of Kou for being alive, and yet, Kou still tries to jump off a building, he is constantly too blinded by his own insecurity complex to grasp how valuable his life is, unaware his death would deeply hurt his loved ones.
He gets better at seeing the value of life after visiting Sousuke’s mom, and venting in the red house to Tsukasa about how much it hurts to lose a family member but I wouldn’t say he is happy to be alive.
He still dismisses his own well being, and shows a lack of self-awareness when people are worried about him, because he thinks his life isn’t valuable, his skills or lack of are what have value.
Tumblr media
“I’ll clean up when I get back” is his first response not “I’m safe, don’t worry”.
It's obvious Teru was worried about his safety here, not the dirty dishes, but the thought never crosses Kou’s mind.
Unlike Kou, Nene loves being alive and has plenty of desires, hopes, plans for the future, and dreams.
Tumblr media
If asked, I’m sure she would say life is a beautiful thing, she wants to enjoy her life even if short, but she doesn’t understand the comcept of life and death very well, and that makes her unable to grasp how fragil life is.
Enjoying your life and treasuring life as a whole are very different things.
Tumblr media
Unless the person is truly gone, Nene is quick to forgive and forget. Danger is danger, and once it passes, it passes. She just takes life for granted.
When she decided to stay on the far shore with Hanako without telling anyone, and undermined the value of her own life, she was incredibly naive.
If her plan had worked, and she had died, she would have put Aoi in the same position she had been in: saved at the cost of her friend’s life ‘for her own good’, while also roping Kou into a plan he didn’t know about (you can’t convince me Kou would have helped Nene if he was aware she planned to kill herself.)
She doesn’t want to think about these things, she likes to be optimistic! But since she doesn’t allow herself to really process death, she doesn’t understand life.
Tumblr media
She chalks dying as “I’ll be like Hanako and stay in a boundary with him”, she tries her best to reassure herself that she is fine with losing everything: her home, and a future with weddings,  college plans, and jobs, all for the sake of love. She treats her decision as one would a very long trip, a runaway romance.
She had to be told exactly what will happen, how much of herself, which she loves, she would lose if she tried to stay. The idea of loss, of death, is something that she tries not to think about, so it greatly distraught her.
Tumblr media
Even Teru, whose job is to protect the living and put their safety above it all had admitted this idea is not something that comes easy to him.
Yes, he value life, and he understands how precious it is, but his view on it is not that simple: This value was taught from a young age by the same clan that has a history of human sacrifices.
Tumblr media
Teru has a detachment to the concept of death, since he was born able to see spirits and he travels to the far shore, which takes some weight from the idea that “death is the end” while being personally affected by it, since his mom died without regrets, without leaving a spirit behind.
Teru can understand loss, he can process that death is a terrible thing. He is genuine in his kindness to people, but it doesn’t feel personal. He values life but he doesn’t treasure it, he treasures his family and close friends only.
Saving people is intricately intertwined with responsibilities for Teru, and he is a very arrogant and proud person, he takes his responsibility serious. His professional view on life is simple, almost heroic, but his personal view on life is skewed: There is contradiction to his values.
Dedicating his time to save others makes it so he can’t enjoy his own life to the fullest.
Tumblr media
And there are moments when he feels tired of being a protector, almost resenting it.
He would never kill a person, but he jokes too much about destroying humanity to not betray the feeling that maybe, if there was no life to protect, he could finally live his own life.
Tumblr media
Akane on the other hand sees life as something beautiful and worth protecting: Something to treasure.
He wasn’t taught to do so. His feelings on it are not complicated, he simply enjoys being alive, and that appreciation skyrocketed once he nearly lost Aoi to the clock keepers.
Tumblr media
He doesn’t dislike supernaturals because of a job or a duty, he wasn’t even aware they existed before his contract with the clock keepers. This hate he feels for them is personal, born out of his own beliefs.
He understands death is the end. He understands how fragile a human life is. And he hates how careless supernatural are, not hesitating to play with it
Tumblr media
He has no respect for someone that is willing to murder someone, and he feels strange when people are too easy to forguive them.
Tumblr media
Similarly, his respect visibly raises when he notices a person falls into his beliefs. Once he realized Teru’s job isn’t just supernatural extermination, and that he will go out of his way to save lives, his view changes drastically.
Teru was perceived as an asshole, a tyrannical demon in Akane’s life.
Tumblr media
And Teru may still be an asshole in Akane’s eyes, but no one that goes out of their way to save people can be a demon.
Tumblr media
Even when Akane dragged Aoi into the far shore, his goal was to keep her away from No.6, who he knew wanted to kill her, and to not be separated.
He isn’t happy when they fall, he fights to get back, he’ll march on with a hole in his chest and keep struggling, bleeding out, instead of resting, because he needs to get back.
Tumblr media
There is no “Now that we have each other, I can rest”, there is no "Let’s die and be together forever.”
He doesn’t want only to be together, he wants her to live. He wants them both to live.
Because life is precious to him.

Card Set Hanakotoba
Tumblr media
Recently I was discussing with my lovely friend @istoleyourboat about the meanings behind the flowers in this new card set, and I felt the urge to chronicle them somewhere! I thought you guys might get a kick out of it, too, so this seemed as good a place as any to put it.
So without further ado...
1. Hanako-kun - Queen of the Night
Tumblr media
The Queen of the Night (月下美人) is a cactus flower that blooms just once a year for a single night. Because of this, the most heavily associated meanings with the flower are "transient beauty", "fleeting love," and "the urge to see someone just once."
The short-lived life of this flower feels quite fitting for our ghosty boy! I also like how the flower looks both beautiful and unsettling...all around a fantastic choice by AidaIro.
2. Nene Yashiro - Strawberry Blossoms
Tumblr media
If you have paid attention to the Hanakotoba in TBHK before, then Nene being associated with strawberries should be nothing new to you. Regardless, the prevalent Hanakotoba for Strawberry Blossoms (イチゴ) are "love," "innocence," and "you make me happy."
The "you make me happy" one makes me want to kick my feet around and squeal a little. Isn't that cute!? I also feel the strawberry is especially fitting for Nene because it seems like something she would grow in her Gardening Club.
3. Kou - Clivia
Tumblr media
Otherwise known by the names Bush Lily or Natal Lily, the Hanakotoba for Clivia (君子蘭) are "sincere," "noble" and "good-hearted."
I think this all fits very nicely with our resident good boy Kou, hm?
4. Teru - Bird of Paradise
Tumblr media
The Bird of Paradise (ストレリチア) symbolizes "faithfulness," "magnificence," "a bright future" and "superficial love."
Even at a glance this flower really pops out at you, making it a great fit for the ever-impressive Teru. I really, really love this choice!!
5. Sakura - Hellebore
Tumblr media
Otherwise known as the Christmas Rose, the Hellebore (クリスマスローズ) represents "reminiscence," "never forget me" and "notice my woes."
The way this beautiful flower seems to cast its head down makes it look almost sad. I suppose that's why it has such pitiful meanings associated with it!
6. Natsuhiko - King Protea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King Protea (キングプロテア), also known as the Sugarbush, symbolizes "strength," "courage," "resilience," and "a king's quality."
If you notice, Natsuhiko always has a little crown-shaped tuft hidden in his hair, so AidaIro associating Natsuhiko with a flower that references royalty pleases me. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding him, but we can at least confirm that Natsuhiko is, indeed, strong and resilient.
7. Akane - Ivy
Tumblr media
The plain, non-flowering ivy stands out in stark contrast to the other plants here, but that's because the hanakotoba for it is just that good. Ivy (ヘデラ) means "everlasting love," "I take this feeling to the afterlife," "faithfulness", and "marriage."
Like, if that doesn't scream Akane, I don't know what does.
8. Aoi - Hydrangea
Tumblr media
Again, if you've been paying attention to Hanakotoba in the series, this will not be the first time you've seen Aoi paired with hydrangea. Regardless, hydrangea (アジサイ) represents "enduring love," "mystique," and "fickleness."
The hydrangea is also associated with rejection, more specifically the coldness of a person who rejects the romantic advances of another. It's just such a perfect Aoi flower, there's no wonder AidaIro is so attached to it.
💐🌸🌼🌻🌷🌹🥀🌺
Thank you for reading till the end! And I urge you to look up these flowers yourself and see if you can find any meaning to them I may have missed. You might find something brilliant that I completely overlooked!

I keep thinking about how Teru was the one who said he wanted to live alone. That he was the one who called his parents about this arrangement.
Sure, it could be interpreted as he was just tired of living with a household manager that didn’t care about him. That it would be better to be completely alone than to have Claw agents attack his family when he was the one with powers.
But that phone call reminded me of something. I know lots of kids (including myself) who’ve had that “I’m running away!” moment in their life. Pack a bag angrily with nothing more than a few of your favorite snacks and maybe some toys. Storm out the door and have freedom for all but a few seconds…
… and then immediately dash back home in tears.
Because you know, deep down, that you still have a home to go back to. You still have parents that may tease you a little bit about your break down, but they still have the door open for you.
They still love you.
And I wonder if that phone call was like that for Teru. That was his “running away” moment.
But it was more like a sure fire way of getting his parents to come home.
It was his understandably childish outburst of “I hate how things are, so I’ll do something rash to get a reaction.”
“If I say I want to live alone, they’ll come back.”
“If I run away, they’ll come running to me.”
Then I’ll have my parents back and won’t have to deal with Claw by myself.
Then I won’t be alone anymore.
…Only they didn’t.
There were no parents waiting for him.
There was no door open for him.
The Hanazawa’s were two parents who’s kid said “I’m running away from home!” and they let him.
They didn’t even try to stop him.
Was Teru even expecting them to say yes?
Did he even think he’d ever live in an apartment for one?
Or was he just an 11 year old who ran away from home, only to find out there was no home for him anymore?

People who say Akane is “abusive” to Aoi because of this panel and then ship Terukane are so hypocritical.
Tumblr media
First of all, Aoi was literally trying to kill herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How are people not seeing this? He wasn’t trying to hurt her he was trying to get her attention and convince her not to sacrifice herself. If this was real life should he have grabbed her? No. But in terms of “abuse” this is far from the worst in tbhk. Hanako forces Yashiro to clean the bathrooms, has tried to look under her skirt, and also tried to trap her in a fake world? And you think Aoikane is the most toxic ship?
Not saying you can’t ship Hananene but if you call that a healthy relationship and then hate on Aoikane you’re being so hypocritical. Yes the characters aren’t perfect and there are problems on both Akane’s and Aoi’s side, but it’s a fictional manga of course there are some problems. Also it is no problem is you simply don’t like the ship, but saying that people who do like it support abuse is just??? So wrong??? Also people often mischaracterize Terukane as this relationship where Akane is everything to Teru and Teru would die to save Akane, but that is Teru’s relationship with his siblings NOT Akane. He has literally attacked Akane for not telling him what books he reads?
Tumblr media
HE ALSO REGULARLY TIES HIM UP???
And don’t get me wrong I love Terukane but saying that it’s “healthier than Aoikane” is far from the truth and is referring to their fanon relationship and not canon.
ALSO DISCLAIMER THIS IS NOT MEANT TO ATTACK ANYONE THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!

I have a lot of goofy mob psycho perfume headcanons, but one of my favorites is that Reigen wears Bath and Body Works Champagne Toast but is ashamed of it.
Tumblr media
Champagne toast is a juvenile, fun scent that smells like hyper-sweet champagne and peach. Reigen LOVES this scent but he HATES that he loves it because even though he’s crazy about sweet femme scents, he doesn’t want people to know that he wears a cheap scent designed for tween girls.
So when people ask what scent he’s wearing, Reigen lies and says “Nautica Voyage for Men” Reigen shamefully keeps champagne toast stashed in a locked drawer in his desk. It’s his secret.
It’s his secret to everyone except Teru.
See, the thing about Teruki Hanazawa is that he has an amazing nose. He knows the name of a fragrance just by smelling it. And Teru ADORES bath and body works. He collects it. So Teru smells Reigen and immediately knows reigen is wearing champagne toast.
Their interaction goes like this:
Teru (who proudly wears scents designed for tween girls) I never knew you liked champagne toast, Reigen-san!!! We should talk bath and body works sometime!! I’m somewhat of a collector myself. I’m actually wearing the tutti dolci collection right now!
Reigen *visibly sweating*: dunno…dunno what you’re talking about. I’ve never been to bath and body works in my life. The only scent I wear is nautica voyage for Men
Teru *squinting* You don’t smell like nautica voyage. You smell like champagne toast.
Reigen: I guess your smeller is off.
Teru *visibly distressed at reigen gaslighting him at the tender age of 14*
Later, for Christmas, Reigen unwraps his present from Teru. It’s an unboxed bottle of nautica voyage for men.
Teru: go ahead, spray it!
Reigen starts sweating. He’s been caught in a lie—now everyone will smell the ACTUAL nautica voyage for men, and know that Reigen smells nothing like that, thus proving that Reigen has been lying the whole time about what fragrance he’s wearing.
People will discover he’s a fraud. A fraud who wears champagne toast.
Unable to think of an excuse, Reigen sprays the bottle of nautica voyage for men.
It smells exactly like champagne toast.
It smells like champagne toast because it IS champagne toast. Teru had bought a bottle of nautica voyage for men, emptied it, refilled it with champagne toast, and gifted it to reigen. The reason? He wants Reigen to be able to keep his perfume on his desk, to spray champagne toast without feeling ashamed.
Tears come to Reigen’s eyes. Teru knows Reigen’s a fraud. At least when it comes to the fragrances he wears. But Teru doesn’t care!! In fact, he’s HELPING Reigen lie by gifting him champagne toast disguised as nautica voyage. The idea that the kids see him—the real him, the liar—and accepts him anyway, is almost too much for reigen to take.
But Reigen keeps going. Like he always does. He says thank you to Teru. Gives him a hug. He sprays champagne toast, and is proud.
