I don't know if you're generally looking for book recs, but I have to say that I think you would really like A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. There's bugs and vultures and the MC honestly reminds me a little of you.

I'm always open to hearing about good books! I don't do a lot of book reading, but Kingfisher's been recced to me a few times, so I'll definitely keep it in mind the next time I do look for a book!

WIPpet (WIP snippet)

AH! Tagged by @jmrothwell and @sovvannight (THANK YOU OMG!)

It's from my Bex verse because that's where the muse is living rn... For those who don't know: alive, in-their-30s, moderately successful Sunset Curve QPR with Willexie as parents.

The door banging open jolts Alex out of his thoughts and he faintly registers a child crying before he jumps up from the couch to meet his family as they come into the apartment.

Bex is clinging to Willie, wailing as tears stream down her face.

“What did you do?! I told you something like this would happen!” Alex exclaims and Willie cuts off his spiraling. 

“Alex, I love you. But I need you to chill. Bex is fine,” they move around Alex and toward the bathroom, holding Bex close and attempting to comfort her by cooing platitudes at her.

Alex is about to follow after them when Reggie grabs him by the shoulder and redirects him into the kitchen.

“What happened?” Alex asks, panic still lacing his voice.

“Bex did great!” Reggie assures him, “She didn’t fall off the board once. But she tripped and fell in the parking lot when we got back home. That’s all.”

Alex breathes out a sigh of relief and Reggie continues, jumping up to sit on the counter as he does so, “We just pulled her around on the board until she got bored. She’s too small to actually propel herself. I know you can’t help but worry.” He reaches out and pulls Alex toward him, letting him stand between Reggie’s legs, “It’s why we love you. But you don’t have to. Willie showed her some tricks too and she loved it.”

Alex wraps his arms around Reggie. “Thanks,” he mumbles into Reggie’s chest. “I’m sorry for being so neurotic.”

Reggie lets out a light chuckle, “It’s who you are. And I’m not who you owe an apology to.”

Reggie nods out into the hall and lets Alex untangle himself from him with another sigh. Reggie jumps down from where he’d been sitting and follows Alex to the bathroom. They get there just as Willie is planting a kiss to Bex’s scraped up knee, the damp cloth they’d used to clean her up abandoned on the counter beside them.
