whatever you do, don’t think of Mick Mercury seeing his best friend on every streaming channel promoting a public execution.
whatever you do, don’t think of Mick Mercury watching said best friend unmask his other best friend in the high-security prison you helped him infiltrate.
don’t think of Mick Mercury seeing Juno Steel’s bruised face, seeing his heartbreak as a member of his family is being put to death, seeing his righteous and defensive fury.
don’t think of Mick Mercury noticing how Sasha Wire - no, Director W - looks at Juno…with nothing but cold calculation.
don’t think of Mick Mercury (soft, nostalgic, Mick who always sees the best in people and always holds out hope) remembering how they promised to always have each other’s backs.
don’t think of Mick Mercury’s heart splitting in two.

Relistened to What Lies Beyond (part 1) today and had a terrible thought during the wedding vows...
Knowing what we know now about Slip and the Executives and what they did to Nureyev, what do you think was going through his mind when Buddy said this:
Tumblr media
When Buddy describes feeling as though she's in a dream? I can imagine the panic, the kick of his flight response. That's the last thing he really hears from them before he disappears. It's almost a confirmation that he can't stay, he doesn't belong here.
And he probably shares Buddy's fear, that he'll wake up one day and find out that he's been tricked again, that Juno and the rest of the Family were all just another dream. A pretty lie, a fabrication of his mind.

Nureyev: live your life for yourself. Whatever you do, Juno, don’t come looking for me.
Juno: you can’t tell me what to do.

Basically, though, it sounds like there was absolutely no reason for Nureyev to be at the prison EXCEPT to help the Crime Family escape. Because he wasn't gonna make any money there. He left them behind in the first place to get back to what he was doing: paying off his debts to bring Slip back.
But, he went back for them anyway. He risked it all, AGAIN, to get them out of there.
Peter Nureyev, I see right through you. I see you playing this off, pretending you didn't need them, that you didn't matter. But you love them. ALL of them, not just Juno.

After Final Resting Place, a lot of fic writers grappled with whether Nureyev intended his invitation to sound like an ultimatum (run away with me now or I'll leave forever) and usually they fell on the side of him not meaning it quite that way.
Following the Next Page I propose that is WAS an ultimatum, just not for Juno, for Nureyev.
He couldn't stay, he couldn't stop, but he loved Juno. His only hope was that Juno willing to get on that ride. It was selfish, but it was his only chance. Now Nureyev is asking the opposite of Juno for the exact same reasons. He loves him.

Peter Nureyev has killed a man and he has no moral objections against it but he doesn't do it often simply because he just fucking hates cleaning up. Have you seen his room? This man refuses to clean, he's mopping up someone's blood and just bitching about it the whole time
