So.
Watched The Giggle.
Guys.
Guys.
About 10-15 years ago I went on an Old Who binge. Like, raided Daily Motion, downloaded the full episodes list from Hartnell to Baker and then every episode with the Master or the Rani
And went for every “lost episode”, a bunch of which are on Audible
And
You know who my favourite was?
My most favourite Old Who thing that I went on a jillion tweet rant about how they should bring back immediately?
The fucking Toymaker
I LOVED him
Favourite guy
And you know the other thing? That… complicates the memory?
I don’t visualise. At all, ever, so I also don’t really remember things in visual aspects, so not being able to visualise what those episodes looked like? Meant nothing to me
That’s normal
I spent the whole damn episode with just the very most nostalgia and delight and also yes, the feeling of “this is so very familiar but I don’t know what it should look like”
Like… I knew it was black and white cuz it was Hartnell
But I couldn’t remember a single visual aspect of those episodes, but it still felt so… perfect. So right
Guys
Guys
There fucking ISN’T video of the first three fucking episodes in that arc. There just isn’t. It’s gone. We have the audio and some stills and some saint has made a kinda audiobook version and then shackled themselves to Audible for some ungodly reason and given us the arc that way
I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER VIDEO FOR EPISODES I KNEW I LOVED BUT HAD ACTUALLY NEVER SEEN BUT I COULD NOT TELL BECAUSE I AM GODDAMN APHANTASMIC AND CAN’T VISUALISE THE EPISODE I JUST WATCHED
this is all the Toymaker’s fault and Neil Patrick Harris was so fucking perfect and I loved that he came in to do a musical number and then left for no fucking reason
He gave me life and also epic catch was Fine I Guess but someone needs to challenge the Toymaker to a ttrpg, particularly one like DnD or Pathfinder that does not have a win condition because I feel like that would upset him so much but also he wouldn’t notice for like 8 years

obsessed with the absolute refusal to say "Doctor who?" in the "The Church on Ruby Road". "Doctor what" "what Doctor" "what's his name" like come on! Showrunners change but the disdain for the second half of the title does not.

Spoiler for Doctor Who The Giggle
Can we talk about this “We can be…celestial.” Scene in the third special?
That was Anthony J. Crowley standing there, not The Doctor and you cannot convince me otherwise.
This whole “we are beyond this human-y vessel, let’s go back to the stars together”
What the actual fuck was going on there?
You wanna know what I saw? This shit reminded me an awfully lot of this:
Tumblr media
Yes, I am currently watching the episode and had to pause after this fucking line because my teeny tiny human brain cannot process this.
I will continue in a minute after this breakdown is finished.
I just want to add one thing.
I can see the fanfictions on this.

What’s happened here?  Someone’s wandered a bit too far from home and ran into some... unfriendly humans.  Maybe they were frightened, but they were probably just hateful and figured they could probably make an easy buck off of him.
They’re still alive, somewhere behind him.  Running was the best course of action, of course, but you can only get so far with blood running down your body.  ...And there he goes, falling over on his side.  Plop.

honestly i think of all the new specials my faves are ironically wild blue yonder and the church on ruby road. i just don't think the giggle used the toymaker as effectively as it could've. the hate plague just isn't as fun and horrifying as things could've been. like it could've been the kid friendly version of the diner episode of the sandman but no.
meanwhile WBY gave me the kinda freak shit from beyond reality i love and TCORR gave me all kinds of hints about the world getting Weirder with the goblins and "the vocabulary of rope" and "a new kind of physics". i know davies has said he wants to introduce more of the cosmic and weird shit going on and i'm already frothing for it.
the star beast is also just a pure delight but it needed more of rose 2 i love rose 2 passionately she's my baby angel i'd kill the world for her with my bare hands.

Iconic Creepypasta Duos
(All Platonic)
Toby and Jane!
Ultimate best friends, like everyone in the mansion knows they’re besties.
Toby originally was drawn to Jane because she reminded him of his sister, but slowly him and Jane worked through his idea of her. After that, Tony realized that Jane would always be there for him, so he wanted to support her too.
Through Toby, Jane is allowed to be weird and unleash her inner monologue without judgement, which is why she appreciates him so much. He’s a girls guy 100%
Around the mansion, you almost never see them apart. They both also aren’t the biggest fans of Jeff, though they’re pretty close with Liu.
Ben and EJ!
These two are consistently getting caught in random shenanigans. Both of them being naturally curious and knowledge hungry, it’s pretty easy for them to lurk around. They’re like shadow best friends or gossip friends.
They see all the shit around the mansion and don’t hesitate to spread it around. Tbh these two are the Regina Georges of the mansion.
Jack is the smarter one when going into one of their curiosity missions, but he’s still stupid when it comes to blowing his cover. Ben is the one who insinuates their missions, like why has Slenderman been leaving the house lately? They found out Slendy Wendy had brothers.
Jeff and LJ!
Most sadistic mfers, they prank an ungodly amount. Both are loud and comedic, Jeff is more extreme though. These two can NOT go on a mission together because they will fail.
The person they prank the most would be Ben probably. Ben is easy to persuade into doing dumb shit so he’s kind of their TV.
You will find Jeff stacking donuts on Jacks nose for funzies. They are consistently doing dumb stuff, it’s funny, but they kind of act like those guys in your math class.
Nurse Ann and Bloody Painter!
Ann and Helen are a lot closer then the rest of the pastas think. Both being introverted, when they hang it’s mostly in their rooms or the medical hall. Since they aren’t as crazy or loud, they’re often overlooked.
Neither mind though, both of them get pretty funny when they’re alone. Most of what they do is watch dumb shit or cartoons. (Both avid fans of SpongeBob)
You will find these two doing really weird shit if they think no one is looking. They will actively make you feel left out two with the amount of inside jokes they have.
Hoodie and Liu!
These two are also really quiet, not really close friends but they’re on missions together a lot. They share a similar music taste and often give each other playlists to listen to.
Even though they’re work partners, they talk occasionally outside of their missions. Liu is naturally hella funny and Hoodie is a giggler.
Neither of them are extremely close, but they’re getting there.
Jason the Toymaker and EJ!
Jason is always getting hurt, this bitch is clumsy asf. Over this EJ and Jason started becoming friends. At some point at the mansion, you’ll notice Jack hitting Jason over the head with a thick book because Jason’s a little bit of a Himbo.
Think of Jason as Blackstar from Soul eater and Jack is Death the kid. Jason causes almost too much havoc for Jack, but they still bond regardless. Even if Jack is beating the shit out of Jason.
They aren’t as close as Ben and Jack, but they’re still good friends.
Sally and Judge Angels!
I don’t know much about Judge Angels, but I feel like she’d take a quick liking to Sally. Sally is a sassy mf and Dina returns that energy, which is prob why Sally likes her so much.
Most the Pastas are scared of returning sass to sally since she has the most power in the house, but Dina doesn’t. Dina and Sally together are like balls of fire.
Both of them actively pull pranks and blame it on Jeff and LJ. Then they’ll prank them themselves. The 4 of them have a cute little prank war going on.
Jane and Clockwork!
Jane is everyone’s best friend, she generally gets along and likes most the people in the mansion. When Clockwork came along tho, they just hit it off immediately!
Both of their crude humor just bounced perfectly off each other. You can always find them giggling about some weird shit. Think of their relationship like Brittney and Trixie’s on YouTube.
They have talked about starting a podcast before, they’re literally like sisters.
Candypop and Slenderman!
Candypop is very… personal. I mean he gets close. He’s also the same height as Slenderman. Candypop has an obsession with bothering those who are reserved, he’s weird with everyone. He’s always taking people out of their shells.
Still, him and Slenderman are essentially the ultimate duo. Candypop gets along well with his brothers too. Seriously, most the time Candypop is talking Slenders (nonexistent) ears off.
It’s so often to see Candypop following around Slenderman that the other pastas started harassing both of them. Slender pays no mind to this.
Candypop and Puppeteer!
Another case of the Candypop disease puppeteer was blessed with. The menace. Honestly though, these two are best friends and they find enjoyment on missions together. Whenever Candypop isn’t up Slendermans ass, he’s up puppeteers. Seriously Candypop is a menace.
Since they’re some of the only creepypastas that kill outside of their assignments, typically they go on sprees together in their free time.
You may never see them together but you can always hear them laughing together. (Seriously, they’re always laughing and it’s a little scary because imagine it’s 3AM and you hear 2 grown men giggling?) (it’s kind of hot tho ngl)

I just finished watching the 3rd special with my best friends and I cannot express how much Shirley Anne Bingham means to me.
Tumblr media
She's a fucking great character.
Her wheelchair has weapons in it are you kidding!!!!! (Ep 1)
She's an ambulatory wheelchair user! (Ep 1, non-paralysed, crosses her leg & Ep 3, she stands up)
She never explains what her disability is or why she can walk.
The portrayal of how abled people just do not consider disability at all was done so well, it wasn't awkward or forced. (Ep 1)
Ableism was condemned as being nonsense in Kate's Toymaker-induced speech. (Ep 3)
Her outfits are iconic (the costumes in these eps were Excellent).
THE RAMP! I know that wasn't explicitly her but stilllll it was so important. And it's related.
Legit my only complaint (about her/the disability rep) is there wasn't more of her and also that she was just like no need to apologise, to Kate. When like. Yes there is. Even if it was alien induced, I would still want an apology. It was public ableism.
Anyway, overall: representation done fucking right.

Spice up your life!!
Have the Toymaker, as the Knight of Cups, and happy 60th anniversary ! :D
Tumblr media
(It might be my fav tarot card so far, just love the vibe)
Explanations under the cut! In broken english, but I don't think I can do worse that the figure of that card.
As all the knights so far, the Toymaker does not get to ride an actual horse- but hey! Who does not want a hobby Horsen to go clippety-clop down the Straße, ja?
The Knight of Cups, upright, is a card deeply linked with creative forces. While the Page of Cups is inspired by an imaginative idea, the Knight is motivated by action : you have dreamed about what you want to create, and you are making this dream into reality. Or perhaps reality is really just a dream to you; perhaps all dreams are real and reality is fake. It's all the same: you, a creative mind, have the ability to act, and make dreams... true. You follow your imagination, as wild as it can be, and are always happy to be exploring new passions and ideas- even discover a whole new universe, who knows! The Knight of Cups is the alliance of true imagination, and action. You, as the consultant, you who do not possess power beyond the realm of reality, have to see it as a reminder to act, or your dreams will remain just that- dreams, and not reality.
Reversed, the card tells you that maybe, just maybe, you're spending so much time dreaming, playing with your imagination, that you are starting to loose sight of what is real and possible (and, in a certain elemental, unstoppable force's case, any regards to the rules beyond those of the games. Was ist right und wrong, again?). The Knight encourages you to ground your ideas into reality, which might be helped if a certain someone decide to cast salt at the edge of the universe. The card can also indicate that you are sulky, moody, and are perhaps acting a bit like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Perhaps you don't like to loose. Well, that's alright, then! But you are allowing your emotions to get the better of you, when you are not getting your way.
Overall, you can be quite disconnected from reality. If you want to live the better version of yourself, remember that you need to keep your dreams in mind as much as you need to keep track of what's going on around in the world. You don't need to be so small, mate.
(and ffs please when David Tennant is asking you to go off to the stars with him you say yes, damnit)
Tumblr media
And that's for today!! This card was an absolute delight to do. And, I mean, so was those three episodes, and so was the Toymaker. That dude has been dancing in my mind for almost a week, now, non stop. So dang excited for 15th run, he's already an absolute icon.
Also! With this card, I reach the sixth Doctor-Who-themed one. First one who is not the Doctor or my precious little 🦷 ! More to go. Many, many more to go. Bill Potts (not Stooky Bill, but Lady Bill) should be next...

inspired by @deadpuppetboi's killer redesign of the Toymaker's original outfit (removing the problematic elements and capitalising on the literal 'celestial' theme), i wanted to say!!! if you are looking for a similarly bonkers reality-bending entity who wears kickass robes for inspiration, look no further than Q from Star Trek 👀

'Call it How Neil Patrick Harris Met Your Favorite British Time Travel Show.
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies tells EW that the American actor was completely unfamiliar with the beloved science fiction series when the executive producer approached Harris about playing a villain called The Toymaker on this Saturday's final 60th anniversary special episode, "The Giggle."
"He’d never heard of it in his life, bless him," Davies says with a laugh. "I was lucky enough to work with the great man on a show called It’s a Sin, about the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, and working with him was such a joy. The Toymaker, he's kind of the god of games, so he shuffles cards, he does magic tricks, and all of that fits Neil Patrick Harris. If you go through agents, they often tell you to go away. I was able to send just a text saying, 'Do you fancy reading this?' He read it and literally phoned me up going, 'Let me get this right, so the Doctor’s an alien, right?' I was like, 'Oh my god, you really have never heard of Doctor Who!' But he couldn’t resist it, and he came to Cardiff, and we had the most spectacular time."
The Toymaker first appeared on the show back in the '60s, when the character was portrayed by Michael Gough and the Doctor was played by William Hartnell. This time around, Harris' villain will face off against David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who are reprising their respective roles of the Doctor and Donna Noble for the three anniversary episodes after many years away from the show. Davies explains that, "it's very hard to find the villain who can match David Tennant and Catherine Tate. To have a character who can be in danger of defeating those two is very hard to find. Sometimes on Doctor Who, you need armies of a thousand robots who could do that. This is just one person, so casting them was absolutely crucial and this becomes a pivotal event in the Doctor’s life. We needed that man, and, god, we had a glorious time. It’s so lovely working with Neil. When I text him now, [we ask], what’s our third project together? We’ve got to keep going!"
Tennant agrees that Davies made the right choice in casting Harris as the episode's villain.
"Oh, he’s good," the actor says. "I don’t quite know if he knew what to expect, but he dived in with such gusto and brio. This part requires a lot of skill sets and Neil turns up with them all. I don’t want to give away too much about what might be required of the Toymaker, but you need a sort of an all-round entertainer to play that part and a very good actor, so there aren’t a lot of people who could have ticked all the boxes required. We were really excited when Neil said 'yes,' and actually it’s impossible to imagine who else it might have been. He’s a sort of theater animal, so he’s got that bit of graft about him that my Scottish Presbyterian soul rather enjoys being around. And he’s got a twinkle in his eye, which is sort of the combination of elements that you need for Doctor Who, I think."'
