Chapter 4 ~ the interview ~
Steve Raglan recognizes you.
It’s the strangest thing; when you’re first guided into his office, his welcoming voice is pleasantly neutral until he looks up from the paperwork on his desk and then the words of greeting trail off weakly. His eyes widen slightly behind the lenses of gold rimmed glasses, his lashes lifting briefly before they drop down once more. You’re convinced he’s definitely seen you before, though you can’t imagine where. The middle aged man doesn’t look familiar to you at all.
“Welcome, have a seat.” He recovers smoothly, gesturing at a vacant chair across from him.
You sit down, setting your backpack by your feet.
The bearded man opens a folder and glances at its contents, his eyes alternating between the pages and your face, his fingers tapping along the paper surface, as if he’s cataloguing something. The awkward silence lengthens and then he speaks again as if there’s been no lull. “So, I’ve got your contact information here. I understand you’re interested in a job at Freddy’s.”
You nod. “What positions are available?”
The career counselor spreads his fingers out. He talks a lot with his hands, you notice immediately; the long, well manicured fingers constantly in motion, punctuating each utterance. “Well, it really depends on where your interests lie and what your abilities are. The remodeling and construction will be done during the first couple of months, then training starts for the employees. We’re looking to get up and running by next spring.”
“We?”
“More accurately myself. Just speaking formally in the third person. I’m the sole proprietor.”
You blink in surprise. “You own it?”
“Yes.” He eases back into the swivel chair, slowly tapping a pen against his palm, studying your face. “Why don’t you tell me a bit about yourself?”
“Um, I’m a senior. I turned eighteen this past summer.”
“References?”
“I babysit a lot. I’ve worked at a clothing store in the mall.”
“Experience with a cash register and with children, those are pluses.” He leans forward and marks something down on the paper in your folder. “Do you have a reliable source of transportation?”
“I typically walk everywhere or ride my bike, but my neighbor’s son is going away for college next year and he’s going to sell me his. That’s what I’ve been saving up for.”
“Potentially an issue with inclement winter weather in the near future, but I understand the mayor is planning on reinstating public transportation to the area, so…” Another mark. “What about your future goals? Plans for college? Do you see this as something temporary, or were you thinking about long term?”
Overwhelmed by the barrage of questions, you find yourself stammering your reply. “I…I’m not sure yet. I want to go, I’m just undecided about a major.”
Steve reaches for a glass dish set on the corner of his desk filled with hard candy, selecting one and making short work of the wrapper before popping it into his mouth.
“Help yourself.” He gestures to the sweets and you choose one, thinking it might be rude to decline, but don’t unwrap it yet.
You can hear the confectionery knocking against the man’s teeth as he rolls it with his tongue. “What would you say is your strongest subject in school? What are some of your hobbies?”
You fidget with the sleeves of your hoodie. “I don’t really excel at anything in particular. I enjoy English Literature and Art. I like writing and drawing.”
Raglan nudges the frames sliding down his nose absently, his gaze intent on your face. “What sorts of things do you write and draw?”
You shrug uncomfortably. You’re not used to talking about your interests with other people; not really used to anyone taking an interest at all. For a fleeting moment the yellow rabbit crosses your mind. “I do a lot of journaling. Drawing…I like animals, nature…I enjoy building models too….a bunch of different stuff, I guess,” you conclude lamely.
The older man hums thoughtfully, the pen now slack between his fingers, teeter tottering either end against the halfway filled page. “How would you describe yourself?” He begins to read off a list: “Motivated? Outgoing? Energetic? Team player?” He frowns, dropping the pen and focusing his attention on you. “I really hate these generic questionnaires. Just tell me in your own words. If you had to pick one word to describe yourself.”
“I…I guess I’m pretty introverted. I don’t really get along with people my own age.” You realize you’re not doing much to sell yourself for employment at a party themed restaurant and you hastily add, “I’m interested in the animatronics. I mean, I could do waitressing or food prep or whatever, but the behind the scenes stuff is what I’m really curious about,” you admit, surprising yourself. You’d never really given it much thought before now.
Steve abruptly leans forward, the motion reminding you of a cat pouncing on its prey. “Are you? Tell me more about that.”
“I don’t know. I want to understand how they function, I guess. Construction, maintenance. Everything. Not that I’m qualified for that, I know; but I’d be willing to learn.”
“A lot of engineering relies on the ability to think in the abstract. Piece together connections that aren’t immediately visible to the naked eye. Kind of like solving a puzzle but in three dimensions.”
You nod. “That’s what I find appealing.”
The diluted blue topaz irises continue to hold your gaze. “How interesting. Still waters run deep.”
You frown, puzzled.
“It means there’s more to you than meets the eye, basically. Quiet, withdrawn individuals tend to be grossly misunderstood.” He lifts the paper and slides in back inside the Manila folder. You hear the last dregs of the candy surrender to his teeth, crushed and pulverized between them. “You won’t be working at the front end. It would be an absolute waste of everyone’s time.”
“So…what does that mean?”
“Plan your schedule around having some afternoons and evenings busy by spring.”
“That’s it? I’m hired?”
His lips twitch, almost but not quite forming a smile. “Welcome on board.”
Chapter 5 ~ a warning ~
The front door of the pizzeria is no longer boarded up.
You slow your pace as you draw closer, cautiously studying the building, but you see no other signs that anything has been disturbed. You cup your hand and seat it against the glass front, trying to shield your eyes from the glare behind you to peer inside the restaurant. You can vaguely make out an archway just past the hostess’s podium, a checkerboard patterned floor, and a row of empty fifty cent prize machines, the candy and stickers and plastic toys long gone.
Your hand drifts down to rest on the door handle and you hesitate before pulling, not entirely expecting it to be unlocked, but the door swings open easily. It slams behind you after you venture inside, startling you.
The establishment’s interior is dim.
The light from outdoors can only reach so far. You hesitate on the verge of the dining room, eyes roving over the booths and tables. You can just barely see the curtained stage at the far end of the room, where the animatronics perform, now closed off from view by the heavy drapes.
“So you’ve returned.”
You jump again, heart thumping, head swiveling to find the source of the sound.
The yellow rabbit emerges from the shadows at the far end of the room, that tall figure weaving between the seating arrangements as if it is intimately acquainted with their placement. He stops with some distance still between you, leaning against a booth with a stained glass image of the restaurant’s lead mascot, folding his arms. The lit eyes are brighter today.
“You unbarred the door, right? Thank you.”
“No rain today. What’s the excuse this time? Or were you so charmed by our first conversation?” He sounds bemused, as if he’s enjoying some private joke.
“I…I came to tell you. They’re reopening the restaurant. So you should probably find somewhere else to stay.”
He laughs. “Child, I do not live here. And I’m well aware that it’s being restored to its former glory. Is that really what you came here for?”
You flush. “I’m not a child.”
“Barely past it.”
“I was trying to be nice. I thought I should warn you.”
The rabbit’s head tips thoughtfully. “You were genuinely concerned, weren’t you? Then I apologize for my abrasiveness. If it seems I’m ungrateful, it’s because I don’t have the opportunity to interact with others much. He does not let me out often.”
You frown but the strange creature does not elaborate.
“I’ve been hired to work here,” you say to break the sudden silence.
“And what will you be doing?”
“Working on the animatronics.”
“Interesting.” One steel cased finger taps along the forearm of the suit and something in the movement feels strangely familiar.
“Will you…will you be here? When the place reopens?”
You swear the figure is smiling now, impossible to see in the confines of the headpiece but oddly palpable in his speech. “Of course. I always come back.”
Chapter 6 ~ reflection~
The bathroom sink is full of water, the steady drops from the faucet into the plugged basin amassing into a clear pool inside the porcelain bowl.
William Afton stares at that liquid surface, at the ripples that disturb the calm with each drop, and he thinks about who he once was: a husband, a father. A successful business owner. An innovator. And how quickly those marked successes in life had been taken away one by one. How he’d exacted revenge for those losses, little by little, paid in blood.
He bends and plunges his hands into the cool water and splashes it over his face, as if can wipe away that identity so easily. Looking up at the mirrored medicine cabinet, the reflection there is the man he has been masquerading as, this Steve Raglan, Career Counselor. How tiresome the charade is, but needs must. It won’t be for much longer. Construction has proceeded ahead of predicted schedule. He’ll be able to start the employee training soon. He’d gotten a good response from the high school students. Cheap labor. A wise, economical decision he’d learned early on.
He blinks past the rivulets of water trickling over his face and it’s the yellow rabbit’s features he sees, the ravaged mascot staring back at him.
“That’s not why you chose her.”
William scowls. “Why did you let her back inside? Anyone could have gotten in.”
“No one did. No one has come near there for a long, long time.”
“She did.”
“That was incidental.”
“The first visit, maybe. Not the second time. She wanted to see you. She likes you.”
The rabbit shakes his head, his counterpart reflection doing the same. “She’s just a child.”
“On the verge of being an adult.”
The suited mascot leans closer, William’s own face now inches from the silvered surface. “She’s broken.”
“So am I.”
He laughs, the soft sound growing louder as it shakes free, the image in the mirror shifting back to the bearded’s man damp features.

Fallen Silver: Ch3
Summary: Sephiroth is MIA. Second Class Rhapsodos and Third Class Hewley are tasked with locating and finding him. The public does not know of this disappearance. No one was prepared for the truth.
Wars do not end until one side surrenders. Wutai was far stronger than they thought.
Trigger Warning: Self harm (unintentional)
(More notes at the end)
Chapter 3: Repeat
“This is SOLDIER Third Class: Angeal Hewley regarding directive SMIA. We found him.”
“Then put him back on the front. Why are you calling us?”
“He’s severely wounded. We need a chopper to Midgar.”
“He’s HIM. It can’t be severe.”
“I cannot give any more details on this line. Send a medical team right now or Shinra will have your funeral after his.”
There was a pause. “...Sending a team now. Be ready for transport in three hours. After the payload is sent, return to the front lines with Rhapsodos.”
“Understood.”
It was a conversation he should have heard, something he should’ve forced his focus on, but he did not gain a single word as he begged his red haired friend to stay close no matter what. He hated everything, hated every word out of his mouth, but they broke free despite his best efforts. He didn’t understand what was happening. He was so weak, feeble, useless.
The desperation crescendoed as Angeal returned.
He reached for them constantly. Each moment without their touch spiked his agony against his understanding. With both of them, his meager train of thought remained on track. Slow, yes, but on track. The moment he lost contact with either of them, it crashed. They adjusted for him, for his need, and encouraged him to be calm. He tried to obey. He stayed still once his wounds were cleaned and wrapped. Only his friends mattered.
All was almost well until the medical team arrived.
“We'll take him from here.” A team of four approached and shooed Genesis and Angeal away.
“W-wait…” Sephiroth reached for his friends even as he was lifted to the gurney. “Don't go…!”
“It's alright. We got you. We'll fix everything at HQ.”
“No…!” He tried to turn, tried to lift himself off the platform. Two medics held him down. “Genesis…! Angeal…! Come back…!”
“They have to stay here. Those are their orders.”
“No!” Like a child's temper tantrum, he denied their words, thrashing with all his remaining might. Perhaps his strength too was childish. “No! Please! Come back! Come BACK!” The desperation spiked as his pained groans nearly formed a scream.
The lead EMT shouted the final order, “Bring them over here now!”
Angeal and Genesis rushed to his sides, and suddenly Sephiroth's rebellion quelled, his body relaxing as he held Angeal's hand to his head as if checking for a fever. They ignored their orders and stayed by him through every step of discovery until the moment in the lab where he fell silent as a sleeping babe, until the first moment every cell in his body released the need to be near them.
* * *
Sephiroth did not know how much he needed them now.
“Sephiroth, what happened?” Genesis’s voice hit the muffled air.
His inhuman eyes scanned the dead dragon as strands of its lifestream bubbled to the surface, its soul slowly leaving its body.
“SOLDIER First Class: Sephiroth.”
The silver soldier snapped to attention, empty mako eyes piercing him.
Angeal sighed, hating using his title against him. “Report.”
“I spotted this fortress. I went into the wilderness to find a dragon. I led the dragon here as a precaution. When I returned, not a single Wutaian remained. And I found this,” he held up a broken gong, one solid piece with a massive crack straight through the center, before flipping it around. There was a message carved in native Wutaian.
Three alone is strong. One alone is solid. Two alone is balance.
Two with one is unpredictable. Scales break with imbalance.
Angeal’s brows knotted. “I don’t understand…”
“They’re saying what we already know.” Genesis looked up at Sephiroth. “That letting you run wild will kill us all.”
He did not acknowledge the comment. “This is a warning. Two functional gongs remain. We need to find out where.”
“Sephiroth-”
“We need to find them before they cause more damage.”
“Hold on,” the dark haired man took the carved instrument before it cracked in the First’s grip.
“Morale is exponentially low. This trend will continue unless I regain strength in their eyes. We must handle this before news travels to Midgar. My misstep could be forgiven if we pull through.”
“Maybe if you stop running ahead, we could handle this together.”
“Genesis-” Angeal tried to cut him off.
“No he needs to hear this!”
Sephiroth stared through them. “You can’t order me to do anything. I outrank you. I am your superior-”
“Then this is mutiny, Sephiroth!”
The word hit the silver soldier like a brick to the chest, the slight stiffening of his posture the only visible reaction.
“So you listen to me. Because I'll take these men, all of whom have followed my orders for the entirety of your capture, and we will rise against you for the sake of your self preservation, so help me Goddess.”
“Genesis, that's top secret,” Angeal tried to warn.
“All these men saw him collapse without reason. There's no secret about that and no dragon alive will change their wavering faith in your decisions. So for the love of the Goddess, listen to us.”
The waterfall of mercury lowered. Not a word left his mouth. Finally, a shred of fight lost.
Angeal turned to the troops. “Set up camp. We're claiming the base. I want ten men on watch. Go.”
“Sir, yes, sir!” The entire troop quickly entered the compound, designating who would return for supplies and who would hold down the fort. A quarter of their men returned and dashed past the frozen Firsts. Once relatively alone, the silence broke among the hard glares, downturned eyes, and concerned expressions.
“Genesis…” Sephiroth's voice was small, so very small a cat could barely hear him.
The friend's eyes never left his.
“It's not as simple as running ahead…”
“Then explain. But nothing you say will change my mind.”
He held his hand to his heart as if delicately touching a necklace. “There is too much we do not know. I take the lead to protect you all.”
“And you are the one that needs protection now. Times change. We have to adapt, not run straight into unknown danger.”
Sephiroth internally sighed. Genesis didn’t understand. The silver soldier failed to provide a more clear explanation, leaving him trapped in the hands of his fragile friends. He knew they weren’t truly fragile but he wanted to prevent any crack or fracture from forming in them with everything he had.
* * *
Sephiroth allowed Genesis to take the lead in the next push forward. However, the silver soldier kept the crimson soldier in sight at all times, not like Genesis minded. His Second Class friend enjoyed his time in the spotlight just a hair, every attack a bit too powerful, a bit too flashy, and a bit too inefficient. If their enemies were stronger, faster, they may have noticed the inherent sloppiness, taken advantage of the openings subtly on display.
They tried to stay directly ahead of the troop, but the anti SOLDIER measures threatened the lives of all unenhanced enlistees. Genesis made the decision to slow their men and take down the monsters before any cadet lost their life to nearly indestructible enemies.
They found two of these monsters. Large muscular bodies, massive ball and chains at their sides, metal armor and written charms decorating their forms, one left handed and the other right handed, perfect mirrors of each other.
Genesis and Sephiroth shared a quick look before dashing to their enemies. Sephiroth took on the left handed foe while Genesis took on the right. Each synchronized monster attack was countered with the two SOLDIERS, back to back before unleashing hell. However, the anti SOLDIER creatures were tough. Between the armor and their constant attacks, Sephiroth couldn't find an opening to slash them down or at least stun them for a bit.
Why was he struggling? They were never this great of a threat before.
Sephiroth glanced over at Genesis and saw the same realization. The redhead struggled more and more with each parried and blocked blow. Before either of them knew it, the bulky creatures yanked on their chains, and the links below the Second suddenly tied him down.
Something in Sephiroth snapped. He found his body moving before his mind caught up, slashing and pushing relentlessly until the monster freed Genesis.
The Red Mage of Shinra suddenly sprinted to the other monster, fire shooting up his sword. Though with varying strength, they both ended the creatures long before the troops arrived. Thank the gods they did. The souls of the mirrored measures did not leave the bodies. The SOLDIERs had no choice but to wait until they confirmed the deaths. That simple duty kept them in place.
The corpses exploded, plumes of black and white smoke consuming everything in sight. Both SOLDIERs immediately held their breaths. They could barely see each other through the shadows.
“Fall back,” The first and only command of the day left Sephiroth’s lips. However, despite the dissipating fog, his periphery darkened.
A memory cracked into place: his sight wavered right before he awoke in the gold chamber.
“Genesis, fall back,” His words were sharper, louder, trying to cut through the haze.
His friend stumbled away at first, mumbling odd ‘no’s and denials before suddenly bolting straight into the forest.
“Genesis!” Sephiroth shouted, chasing after the red coat.
“Stay away!”
That couldn’t be right. The smoke was finally gone. Their sight may be dark but he wasn’t blind. And even if Genesis was, why was he running? “Come back!”
“Get away from me!” He screeched, weaving through the trees like his life depended on it. Something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong.
“Gen-!” He faltered mid step, glancing down to regain balance. But instead of his leather uniform, he wore a turquoise hospital gown. And he was small, the trees towering into the sky above.
Below the sky, which darkened gray, stood a man in a lab coat black hair and black glasses, stories taller than he was.
“No…” His voice was tiny, strangled by panic, barely a whimper as every instinct urged him to run away.
“It’s time, Sephiroth.”
His head shook, his pleas desperate and childish as he fought his own mind. “Not today…! Not today…! I have to save him!”
“It’s time…-”
As quickly as the illusion- the nightmare- formed, it shattered, his vision still dark, the sky still an unnatural gray, and his steps weak with…
Fear.
But his body was normal, his clothes were ready for battle. He ran forward, his steps barely coordinated and his breath heavy. Something scraped his arm, cutting straight through the leather and his skin. He glanced down but the weapon was long gone. Wutai was firing on them in their confusion, and despite his own wound healing within the second, his friend was not gifted with such restoration.
“Genesis!” He prayed for a response over the pounding of his own heart, prayed for even a scream to pinpoint his friend.
But no sound came, his feet striking the dirt as he tried to avoid the projectiles he could not see or hear.
“Where are you?!”
Not a rustle of wind or the call of an enemy.
“SOLDIER Second Class: Rhapsodos, Answer me!”
S e p h i r o t h . . .
Silver hair snapped around, stopping dead in his tracks with his blade at the ready, shaking in his pathetic grip. Distorted and unnatural, he heard his name clear as day.
Sephiroth…
The voice was heavy, consuming, vast and endless. Where was it coming from? It felt like-
Sephiroth.
Everywhere.
Leave him. You will find him later as he found you.
Why did the voice feel so familiar? He shook his head. He needed to focus. He didn’t have time for this, rushing forward once again. “Where is he?”
Not far.
It knew? Another cut scraped his leg. “Where?” He demanded.
…We have little time. You must find me.
“I need to find him.” If this voice was another illusion he would scream. A sudden tug at his heart and he turned in a new direction, a creek he could barely see through the darkness flowing slowly within the trees. He traced the feeling, walking along the invisible string.
Follow and listen to me.
He wished he could drown the voice in the water, but a small part of him craved the cosmic calm.
I am not false. I am real. And I need you.
He ignored it, praying to spot Genesis and silently hoping it continued, each word a blanket warming his heart. Did it have any idea what it was like to constantly hear that request? And why did a piece of him want to honor it?
I am what you craved. I am what you held in the lab to be calm.
Sephiroth shook his head. Nonsense. All nonsense. No matter how much he wanted it to be true.
They silenced our connection with scales.
His charge slowed. His indescribable feeling of isolation…? No. No no no. It couldn’t be. It didn't make any sense.
I crave you just as much as you crave me, even when you cannot hear me calling out to you.
“Who are you then?” He pushed forward.
You know the answer.
Did he? The voice in his head couldn’t be real. Logically. He knew that.
It is deep within your heart and was once held close to it.
It was insane. Impossible. But the voice in his mind was kind and soft, a purr against his heart. If this start of the torture that broke him built this cruel punishment on his own, he did not know what he would do. He wanted it to be true. He needed it to be true.
Close to his heart. His hand moved unconsciously to where he kept the necklace all those years ago. Why couldn’t he stop the single title from leaving his lips?
“...Mo-?”
A scream knocked him out of the shock.
He’s close. Go.
Following the thread pulling his heart, he leapt across the river and quickly found Genesis against a tree, cuts and throwing stars scattered through his body like the night sky, his right arm broken and cradled by his left, his right leg broken and laid straight out, his eyes clamped shut.
He responded as if feeling the very presence of the other soldier. “Go away… Please go away already…”
Sephiroth ignored the whimpers as his friends once ignored his own. He carefully kneeled before the Second, the redhead flinching, bracing for impact.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” He reached for the injury on his leg.
He cannot hear you.
Genesis screamed at the contact.
Sephiroth instantly let go but the man before him writhed, struggling to crawl back. “What’s wrong with him?” He winced at another cut but was thankful it didn't harm his friend further.
Genesis fell back and clawed at his neck, struggling to breath, but the only marks were his own nails digging into his skin. His eyes opened reflectively, bulging in terror. Within the mako blues and whites, black rods floated on the surface like bacteria under a microscope.
The silver soldier grabbed his friend's hands and pulled them away.
“Spare me…!” He begged through large gasps of air. “Please stop…! Sephiroth…!”
Delay his symptoms.
Though not at all the exact words, Sephiroth knew exactly what to do, mumbling a small apology before knocking Genesis unconscious. Just as promised, his breath regulated, eyes closing and body falling limp.
It is not safe here.
Whatever this chemical was required the lab to flush it out. He had no idea how long the ailment would last for his friend if even he had not metabolized it yet. Sephiroth threw his friend’s arm over his shoulders, carrying the deadweight through the shallow creek and back through the forest. More of the attacks came, single slashes to slowly weaken them, clearly aimed at Genesis so Sephiroth would have to take the hit. With his senses impaired, he couldn’t see them coming.
Angeal caught up to them before they left the trees.
“What happened?”
“Some kind of chemical. I don’t understand what it-”
It forces the mind into panic by displaying individual phobias. It convinces the afflicted that escape is the only option and weakens any attempt at retaliation.
Sephiroth swallowed before relaying the message.
“How does Wutai have a weapon like that?” Angeal carefully carried Genesis.
“They’re injecting it into monsters. Maybe breeding it in. We need to get Genesis to Midgar. It’s not dissolving.”
Now mako blues met his inhuman eyes. “Are you okay?”
Sephiroth nodded. He must have the rods too. “I believe I have some resistance to it. I’ll go ahead and call for transport. Keep him unconscious. He’s not thinking straight and he’s putting himself in danger.”
The silver soldier barely heard the ‘sounds familiar’ as he marched to the base. At his direct order, transportation appeared within the hour.
* * *
The three strongest SOLDIERs once again stood in the research and development lab of Shinra Tower. Sephiroth explained the situation to Professor Hollander and his team. The monsters, the smoke, the darkened vision and instinct to run, the ‘phobias’, the weakness, and how the only difference between himself and his friend was his former exposure to the chemical before his capture. Hollander decided to test the silver soldier’s information by allowing Genesis to wake. Only if the tale was true would he begin working on a cure or at least grab some samples before attempting to flush it out.
Sephiroth and Angeal watched through observation glass to make sure Hollander didn’t try anything dangerous. Both Hollander and a team of nurses stood by inside the chamber.
You do not want to see this.
The First did not tell anyone about the voice, and despite its earlier truth, he refused to leave his friend.
When Genesis’s eyes opened, his terror returned instantly, pushing back into the bed frame as if a threat stalked directly in front of him. “No… no no no- no more! I just want to be enough! Why is that so bad?!” He winced, turning, hiding.
Then he suddenly pinned himself to the wall by his shoulders.
“Stop! Please stop! I don't want to hurt you! It's not like that! Please!” His right hand came up in protection, attempting to block what no one else could see despite the broken arm.
However, his left hand seemed completely out of his control as it slammed into his shoulder, repeating again and again until the bone shattered.
He squirmed and hissed harshly, desperately trying to get away from the threat he believed attacked but was truly himself, the toxin claiming his mind. “I’m strong! I’ll be perfect and one day I will surpass you, Sephiroth!”
The audible inhale told everyone what Sephiroth he was truly thinking. Why was Genesis afraid of him?
“Shut up Shut Up SHUT UP!” All of a sudden tears fell down his red cheeks. “Stop it… Stop it, I beg of you… I don’t want it to be true… I’m trying… I’m trying-”
First, he threw himself off the medical bed, pinning himself against the wall.
Then he gasped, clawing at his damaged neck just as before, choking and thrashing and whimpering.
“Tie him down and take samples before tranquilizing him. We need this compound now! Quickly! Quickly!”
As the nurses and scientists stepped up, Sephiroth stepped back, his heart heavy and his mind blurred. Why was Genesis afraid of him? What could he possibly do to change this fear? He saw Genesis as a worthy component. Why did his friend see him as a tormentor?
He needed answers. He glanced at Angeal, seeing the Third completely trapped by the vision of his oldest friend’s torture. Shocked. Focused. Horrified. The waterfall of mercury suddenly left the room and appeared down a dark hallway with little traffic.
“You knew,” He accused at a whisper.
I did.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Because it would hurt you.
“Why is he afraid of me?”
He fears your true thoughts.
“About him?” Sephiroth would throw his life down for Genesis. He joked about the constant Loveless recitations but that didn't mean he hated them. He sparred with his friends to spend time with them and to hone their skills. He would never attack like that.
He has thoughts of himself he prays you never use against him. Each reflection is thrown back at him with your voice, and each injury he causes himself, he sees you.
The Soldier's eyes fell. His hands began shaking even as he closed them into fists.
Before your capture, you experienced similar symptoms. They dispersed when you awoke in the golden chamber.
“How long did it last…?”
After a week, you fell unconscious. I do not know if the smoke failed or if your captors had a cure. You had no memory of the effects or of me once awoken.
He scoffed sadly. “Why would I take your word for it? How do you know what he’s thinking?” He heard a step behind him and snapped to the source. He suddenly found himself face to face with the dark haired scientist with black glasses.
“Take whose word, Sephiroth?” Hojo questioned immediately.
The silver soldier stared down rigidly and did not answer.
“We'll return to that later then. Come to the lab. I need proper samples while that toxin is in your system.”
“We're already in a lab.”
Hojo scoffed. “That buffoon couldn't properly stock his own pantry, let alone purchase useful equipment. This flashy garbage limits and coddles the user for the sake of ‘user friendliness’. Nonsense. All nonsense. Now come along. We're wasting time.”
Sephiroth was about to deny the scientist when he suddenly remembered the box, one that suddenly cured his desperate isolation. He needed it again, both to test it against this voice he did not want to believe and to defend himself from any other gong Wutai possessed. If there was any chance of discovering what that container held, he would take it.
Hojo grinned as the silver soldier took the lead, unable to hide it as all the tests they needed to complete flooded his mind.
* * *
Skin samples. Blood samples. Swabs and needles invading his skin. Sitting in the exam chair, Sephiroth allowed the tests in silence. Hours passed as he waited for the perfect moment to strike.
Hojo didn’t seem to notice, separating the samples and placing them under various different tests. At one point he claimed to be isolating the toxin, but so far no luck. Concentration levels throughout the soldier’s body were too low. No standard samples contained any useful results. Eventually, finally, Hojo stood before him, scanning up and down before settling on how to continue. At his order, lab technicians entered, rolling in carts full of medical supplies and surgery equipment. The head scientist lifted a full syringe before locking eyes with the silver soldier through a shield of black glasses.
“No,” came Sephiroth’s first word since they entered the room.
“Come now. It’s the logical next step. Don’t you want to help Rhapsodos?”
“You are not sticking anything in my eyes until you give me something I want.”
Hojo crossed his arms. “And what is that? More information about your mother? How many times have we-”
“I want the container.”
His wrinkly face scrunched in confusion. “...What container?”
“After my capture, you gave me a container before beginning surgery. I want that container and its contents.”
“Absolutely not. That situation demanded immediate remedy-”
“I will continue to hinder progress in Wutai if I do not have it in my possession.”
“Are you really threatening your duty over this?”
“I am stating exactly what will prevent last week’s catastrophe from happening again.”
Hojo’s mouth closed. He placed the needle down before waving his hand at the others. “Leave.”
The lab techs exited without another word. The door slid closed behind them, sealing the scientist and the SOLDIER in the examination room.
“Tell me what happened.”
“I need it.”
“It isn’t a drug.”
“I don’t care what it is.”
“I will decide whether or not you receive anything. Do I make myself clear?”
Sephiroth glared from beneath his bangs, black rods stirring in the whites of his eyes.
Hojo simply waited, the whirr of machines the only sound heard until someone dared break the silence.
The silver soldier didn’t want to back down, but Hojo watched a few stray rods swim onto the mako blues. A soft grunt left the man’s lips, his hand supporting his head as his eyes closed harshly. The world darkened as he felt smaller and smaller, weak and insignificant.
Sephiroth.
“Not now…” his second hand flew to his bangs. He clenched his teeth to prevent any more unconscious words from escaping.
Hojo simply observed, a small smirk growing in fascination.
Stay still.
He clenched harder, but soon the unnatural feeling left him. His eyes opened to the same haze, not perfect but bearable.
“Is the neurotoxin making you hear voices?”
“No,” He spat immediately, his voice stronger but lacking the might he truly held. “This isn’t the problem. I know you still have it. Let me test something.”
“You have yet to provide a decent reason to do so.”
“Wutai has more weapons than we thought,” the boy surrendered, seeing that denying the scientist would trap them in deadlock.
“Of course they do-”
“Weapons with the same effect as my capture.”
Hojo’s amusement dropped. “What.”
“That infuriating isolation that completely incapacitates me-”
“Did you let them capture you again?”
Sephiroth almost laughed. “No. They played a gong of Leviathan scales and I collapsed instantly. That same annoying clinginess locked Angeal and Genesis. They dragged me away from the base. The troop saw everything.”
“Are there multiple gongs?”
“We assume.”
“Have you collected any?”
“Yes. I retrieved a broken one.”
Hojo brought a hand to his chin in thought. “If we repair it, we may not need that container.”
Sephiroth shook his head, his bangs protecting his eyes. “Hojo, I don’t think I can grow a resistance to that…”
“Well we won’t know until we try.”
“We should first try the thing that works. That container.”
“First we focus on a cure for your dear friend and then we can build your immunity.” Mako blue eyes met his blacks. “Or I can hand you that container and leave your friend to suffer. Hollander’s had no success so far, and knowing him, he’s probably searching in the wrong place. It is a shame. The longer it takes to find a cure, the longer he must remain in Hollander’s lab for his own safety.”
Inhuman eyes fell.
Don’t listen to him.
He felt the choice slipping away from him.
It will only bring pain.
Hojo sighed. “Oh well. I’d much prefer having a different specimen in the lab.”
Sephiroth.
He had no other option. “Find the cure…”
The silver soldier refused to see the slimy grin on the scientist’s face.

Why did you switch from activism to polemics with Western leftists about Russia’s war in Ukraine?
When in the fall [of 2021, Russian] troop movements began on the border once again, I planned to take a sabbatical and left for an anarchist cooperative in Zakarpattia. But it became clear that something needed to be done and no one else was ready to write articles. At first I wrote two, [one] for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation’s website and [one] for Open Democracy. In these articles, I tried to carefully address the Western Left’s stereotypes [about Ukraine] and influence them, talk [them] round.
I was working on a third article when the invasion started. At the time I was living near Kyiv and I had to return to the city literally on foot because public transport was no longer running. A few weeks before the invasion, we had a meeting involving a number of socialists and anarchists. We discussed who would do what if [a full-scale war] began. Several other people and I agreed to create a volunteer initiative that would help leftists and anti-authoritarian volunteers in the Territorial Defense Forces and involved in humanitarian aid. But when the invasion began, I changed my mind and decided to enlist in the Territorial Defense Forces as well. The very next day, I was told that Jacobin magazine wanted me to write an article for them about the Ukrainian left at war.
Jacobin is the Western left-wing publication that I read the most and I’ve already published with them once. After that, readers criticized my article for “Russophobia” because although they have an American audience, a significant portion of it has illusions about Russia. It’s probably because of this that they changed their editorial policy, and in the months before the invasion they published terrible articles on the topic of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. When they reached out to me, I replied that I was only ready to write an article for them critiquing the Western Left’s approach to Ukraine and their [Jacobin’s] editorial policy on Ukraine.
They refused, and as a result my “Letter to the Western Left” was published on the Open Democracy website on the second day of the war. It was actively discussed in left-wing circles both in the West and in Latin America, it was translated into Spanish and even into Chinese. After that activists from Hong Kong contacted the Social Movement and said that they have the same problem with the Western Left, who say, “Oh, you’re against the Chinese Communist Party, which means you support American imperialism.”
What exactly are these stereotypes about Ukraine that you’re fighting against?
Well, for example, that the Maidan [Revolution] was a U.S.-backed right-wing putsch, practically a fascist coup, and the like. Here the question is how correctly people perceive both Ukraine and Russia. For example, some may understand that Russia is a capitalist state with a reactionary regime, but — apparently under the influence of Russia Today — they have some illusions that there’s a strong trade union movement in Russia.
In discussions with Western leftists, I often hear arguments saying that NATO supported and used the far right during the Cold War. But the Cold War ended 30 years years ago and even the example that in Syria they [the U.S.] chose the socialist Syrian Kurds as their allies and not some other force seems to me like a good indicator of how far U.S. foreign policy is now from the logic of the Cold War. At the same time, these leftists ignore the fact that in recent decades, Russia has been supporting the far right in Europe.
They may also call to mind that the Ukrainian regime is repressing the left. And it’s a separate problem to explain to the Western Left that when they read names like the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, that this means something quite different than they might think. [The party’s leader, Natalya] Vitrenko, cooperated with [Russian ideologue Alexander] Dugin, they had an overtly racist election ad, and so on. In general, all of the banned parties that had some kind of leftist name were approximately the same.
Western leftists often criticize Ukraine. For example, they write about the political influence of oligarchs. But what are the practical conclusions from this? I’m also very well aware that there’s a bad government in Ukraine, it’s carrying out neoliberal policies. We fought against this before the war, we have to fight this now — for example, when they’re trying to curtail labor rights. I know the many shortcomings of Ukrainian society, government, and politics, but this doesn’t mean that resistance to Russian aggression shouldn’t be supported.
Where do these stereotypes come from? Is it just the influence of Russian propaganda or are there other factors?
I think we shouldn’t exaggerate Russian propaganda’s influence here. The main negative impact of Russian propaganda is that it imposes a distorted view of post-Soviet realities. When it comes to this, Western leftists have neither their own experience, nor information sources, nor an understanding of what’s happening here. And since they don’t trust the mainstream media, Russian propaganda often becomes their main source of information.
But Western leftists don’t need Russia Today’s help to dislike American imperialism, U.S. hegemony, the unipolar world, and NATO. They have enough of their own reasons. The older generation often took part in protests against the Vietnam War or other U.S. operations during the Cold War, and the younger one was shaped by the Iraq War. For them, opposing NATO often simply becomes part of their identity, instead of considering a specific political issue that needs to be resolved within the framework of a leftist strategy.
The main reason is probably that in recent decades, the left has been in decline and hasn’t contributed to the development of political thinking and strategy. This is even noticeable among those who have a more adequate stance [on Ukraine]. Even many of our allies in the West pay more attention to getting on the right side and convincing others than to discussing what could be done practically to influence the situation.
For example, I think that in the sphere of international politics, one of the left’s most important demands should be the reform and the democratization of the United Nations. But many don’t want to discuss this at all, because the UN is still an association dominated by imperialist states. Well okay, but what’s the alternative then?
‘Let’s not exaggerate Russian propaganda’s influence’  Ukrainian socialist Taras Bilous serves in the Territorial Defense Forces. He’s also fighting the Western Left’s stereotypes about Ukraine.

A wanted woman who public health officials said refused a court order to receive treatment for tuberculosis for more than a year is now jailed in Washington state.
The woman, identified in documents by the initials V.N., was taken into custody June 1, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department said.
A warrant for her arrest was issued March 3 in Pierce County Superior Court after Judge Philip Sorenson found her in civil contempt for allegedly refusing to isolate herself or get treatment for the highly contagious airborne disease, health officials reported in a statement.
The woman, who is from Tacoma, was transported to the Pierce County Jail, where she will be housed in a room "equipped for isolation, testing and treatment," health department spokesman Nigel Turner wrote in an updated statement released late last week.
"We are hopeful she will choose to get the life-saving treatment she needs to treat her tuberculosis," he wrote in the statement. "Thank you to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the deputies who supported public health with this necessary intervention."
The sheriff's department could not immediately be reached by USA TODAY Monday morning but Sgt. Darren Moss, a spokesperson for the agency, told the New York Times the woman was arrested without incident at her home and transported to the jail in "a specially equipped vehicle that allowed her to remain isolated" until she reached the facility. Moss declined to say where the woman lived and her age was not immediately known.
“As far as treatment and whether she gets out early, that is a question for the Health Department and the courts,” Moss told the outlet, adding the woman's case was not criminal and the sheriff’s department’s role was limited to taking her into custody and transporting her to the jail for treatment.

What is tuberculosis and how does it spread?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tuberculosis is a treatable bacterial disease that usually attacks the lungs, but can also attack other parts of the body including the kidneys, spine, and brain.
It is spread through the air from one person to another, so when someone with TB of the lungs or throat coughs or speaks, the bacteria is emitted in the air, potentially infecting those nearby.
TB is one of the most common illnesses in the world. There are around 10 million new cases every year.
According to health officials, Washington averages about 200 cases of TB each year. In Pierce County, cases range annually from 15 to 25.
'More than a year' of failed persuasion
On its website, the health department wrote, it had been working with the woman’s family for more than a year to persuade her “to take her medication to protect herself and our community.”
The department also previously reported the woman's case marked the third time in two decades the agency has had to seek a court order "to detain a potentially contagious patient" who refused treatment for TB.
The woman is due in court for a hearing on June 23, court records show.

"A day in the Life of Sue Republican.
Sue gets up at 6 a.m. and fills her coffeepot with water to prepare her morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.
With her first swallow of coffee, she takes her daily medication. Her medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of her medications are paid for by her employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Sue gets it too.
She prepares her morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Sue's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the shower, Sue reaches for her shampoo. Her bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for her right to know what she was putting on her body and how much it contained.
Sue dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air she breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.
She walks to the subway station for her government-subsidized ride to work. It saves her considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Sue begins her work day. She has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Sue's employer pays these standards because Sue's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Sue is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, she'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think she should lose her home because of her temporary misfortune.
It's noon and Sue needs to make a bank deposit so she can pay some bills. Sue's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Sue's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Sue has to pay her Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and her below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Sue and the government would be better off if she was educated and earned more money over her lifetime.
Sue is home from work. She plans to visit her father this evening at his farm home in the country. She gets in her car for the drive. Her car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards.
She arrives at her childhood home. Her generation was the third to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.
She is happy to see her father, who is now retired. Her father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Sue wouldn't have to.
Sue gets back in her car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Sue enjoys throughout her day.
Sue agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm self-made and believe everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

sotiris de leora: newsletter;
November heralds Sotiris’ winter season, but temperatures are still warm enough to enjoy the island’s black sand beaches, lush rainforests, and big waves. Day temperatures will reach the low 80s, and you’ll see cold weather at night when temperatures can drop into the high 60s. The Sotiris council suggests taking advantage of the balmy daytime temperatures with waterfall hikes and rain forest walks, though warmth can always be found in the meditation coves or the natural hotsprings just outside the Hunter’s Warren.
During November, the average rainfall in Sotiris is around four to five inches —the third rainiest month after December and January. Since temperatures fall as you venture above sea level, you may even need to take a jacket with you if you plan to venture deep into the forest. Hunters are advised to ready their winter gear and Starfleet soldiers who do not tolerate the chill well should prepare their cold-weather uniforms.
The volume of Collective vacationers is expected to dip, but the Council believes expatriate settlers will continue to increase over the winter months as transport ships are still scheduled on a regular basis. Due to the incident at the food and wine festival, the festival scheduled for November has been cancelled until the subject or subjects responsible are found. The Sotiris Council apologizes for the inconvenience, but they must put the safety of citizens above all else. To make up for the lack of festivities, they have scheduled an Allies Gala for the night of the 24th, to be hosted by at the Collective Embassy. More information about this event will be released by our journalists on Friday the 11th.
Lastly, the Sotiris Council would like remind all citizens that recreational substances legal on Collective planets have not yet been approved by the council for use on Leora! We can confirm University Lecturer Marli Woodglade successfully awakened as an Archlord cultivator, but rumors this advancement was due to her being dosed with Dorian at the food and wine festival are completely unfounded. The Sotiris Council will be sending additional samples of Dorian to the hospital for testing, but reminds the general public that in the meantime, using this unknown drug for the possibility of advancement to Underlord and Archlord respectively, is highly dangerous.
Thank you, and have a wonderful November here on Sotiris.
TLDR; INFORMATION
Balmy weather, medium humidity
Warm water at the beach during the day, chilly at night
Drugs continue to be a problem. Dorian in particular is in high demand.
There is a rumor going around that high doses of Dorian can help Leorans advance from highgold to underlord, and from underlord to archlord. This rumor has driven up the price of Dorian as well as its demand in the city

Perception...
"The sculpted figures of Egyptian gods and god-kings, the Madonnas and Pantocrators of the Byzantine mosaics, the Bodhisattvas and Lohans of China, the seated Buddhas of Khmer, and steles and statues of Copan, the wooden idols of tropical Africa - they have one characteristic in common: a profound stillness. And it is precisely this which gives them their numinous quality, their power to transport the beholder out of the Old World of his everyday experience, far away, towards the visionary antipodes of the human psyche."
-Aldous Huxley, The Doors of Perception & Heaven and Hell, pg 98.
---------------------
Tumblr media
--------------------
I picked up my boyfriend's copy of Aldous Huxley The Doors of Perception & Heaven and Hell because it was small. I had just read a 400 page fiction novel and was looking to bring myself back down to earth. I was expecting a tale of a mescalin trip and a philosophy novel to follow but was utterly surprised by Huxley's focus on perception of art by the human mind. This was inspired by his mescalin trip where he fell in love with drapery in art and consequently in real life. In Heaven and Hell, he analyzes the artist's mind and discusses the ability of the artist to be constantly in contact with the subconscious that connects all humanity.
I've been contemplating this idea on how the mind perceives art since then. I added the quote of "a profound stillness" because I immediately thought of Gerome's painting "Pygmalion and Galatea." He falls in love with a woman he sculpted himself and she only for eyes for him. This "profound stillness" speaks to the angelic side of our egos. Art, classical sculpture in particular, reinforces our self idealization of beautiful creatures with intelligent minds. We reflect our own egos onto the profoundly still humans, sculpted and displayed, who show no complex personality or evil inner thoughts. Art is a reflection of the good side of humanity and society. Art is one of our most fabulous creations with no true equivalent in the natural world. We are inspired by the natural world and its artistry, but turning a blank canvas into an illusionistic, atmospheric, other world is unique to our abilities. Looking at paintings is a look into the part of our mind that transcends reality and is connected to the greater universe. It is a key for all people to open the door of their third eye, even if just a crack. While some choose to take psychedelics and some chose a life of asceticism to connect with the greater mind, this connection is available to the wider public. I don't think it's as simple as just looking at art - one must consume it, analyze it, even if just with a few moments of thoughts, especially if one is consuming a lot of art at once (museum visit or art book), or have a focused study into one piece of art.
Thinking this way has made me think about why I love art and I think it has a lot to do with art's ability to widen my perception. Once you nudge the door of your greater mind open, it can continue to open through various means. And the new perception of the world you reach through opening the eye of your mind can stretch into all aspects of your life - relationships, cooking, walking, exercise, reading, art, etc. Whatever brings greater contemplation is worth doing. Art satisfies my greater mind through similar means that psychedelics and meditation do. Visiting museums is the ultimate microdose of the drug of reality.

Season Three Of The Heist Podcast: How The System Has Screwed Black Farmers And Ranchers
Tumblr media
When local journalism and the newspapers went into an internet-induced death spiral a decade ago, it left a gaping hole of accountability. Without local newspapers launching investigative reports into corrupt politicians, shady businesses, and systemic inequality, who or what would take their place?
Thankfully, there are non-profit, advocacy organizations like the Center For Public Integrity that investigate systems and circumstances that contribute to inequality in our country.
The Center For Public Integrity seeks to counter the corrosive effects of inequality by holding powerful interests accountable and equipping the public with knowledge to drive change. They are an independent, nonpartisan and nonprofit news organization dedicated to investigating Their reporters excel at investigating the systems and circumstances that contribute to inequality in labor, housing, health care, education and access to democracy. We also expose the far-reaching implications of a history of unequal power, by examining disparities in environmental and criminal justice, transportation, technology and access to financial tools.
That's where the podcast The Heist enters the picture. The Heist podcast, produced by The Center For Public Integrity, brings alive some of the most egregious inequities in our society. In season one,  wealthy people and large corporations have won big in Donald Trump’s America. The Trump Administration promised the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 would pay for itself and boost the middle class. But in truth, the tax cuts funneled hundreds of millions into the pockets of the rich and ballooned the national debt. Then, something similar happened again with the 2020 pandemic bailout. Promises made, promises broken. The first season of The Heist is the story of a huge political swindle, how it happened, and how power works in a Donald Trump presidency. Reporters spent months behind the scenes: we get to know a big Republican donor, a senator who caves to political pressure, and the enigmatic Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, who led the charge for these laws.
In season two of The Heist, an Iowa entrepreneur determined to help narrow the wealth gap sets off to open the first Black-owned bank in more than 20 years. No part of that is easy. ReShonda Young is trying to do something nobody in the country has managed in more than 20 years. Open a new Black-owned bank. In the second season, The Heist follows her quest to confront the enormous wealth gap between Black and white Americans with tools of the banking system that has helped perpetuate it. And we tell the story of that gap, a centuries-long heist pulled off through virulent discrimination. Here’s the thing: To open a bank, you need to raise a lot of money. And if you’re aiming for majority Black ownership, the wealth gap will fight back every step of the way. The third season of The Heist just debuted and focuses on the history of government discrimination against Black farmers. In the first episode, we are introduced to Nate Bradford, a Black cattle rancher from Oklahoma whose dream it is to make his ranch self-sustaining enough that he can quit his full-time job and work his ranch.
We learn in the first episode how the local Department Of Agriculture's Farm Services Agency went back on its word and refused to restructure Bradford's loan.
We also learn that in the 20th Century, Black farmers and ranchers lost more than $326 billion in land. The host in season three is April Simpson, a Daytime Emmy award-winning journalist with over 20 years of experience in journalism, content development, producing, editing, anchoring, talk show hosting and field reporting.
Simpson excels here as she interviews Nate Bradford in his home. Her vivid descriptions of the ranch, the interior of the home, and of Bradford overflow with pathos, heroism, courage, and the dogged determination to fight in the face of a legacy of discrimination against Black farmers and ranchers by the Department Of Agriculture.
Simpson explains that Bradford and his family came from Georgia at the beginning of the 20th Century to escape the Jim Crow laws. She reveals Nate Bradford and his family as hardworking, God-fearing Americans who are pursuing the American Dream.
What's standing in the Bradford's path?
A sleazy history of discrimination against Black farmers and ranchers by the U.S. government.
As author James Baldwin once said, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."
Check out The Heist.

Where are we headed?
We are headed towards a cashless society, where every sale and purchase is tightly monitored by the government.
Where everyone’s travel is tightly monitored by the government.
Let’s start here.
If anyone drives in London, one of the hundreds of cameras placed there will get a snapshot of their license plate. Not to try and get them for speeding, but to just see whether they were driving at all. Driving in London is now the privilege of the rich, those who can afford to buy the newest, shiniest vehicles.
And of course, while there is an ongoing shortage for parts, while manufacturing is limited… while waiting for a part to come in, from a car to a fridge is now taking months. Cars cost more. Lending rates are high.
So a privilege now is costing the common people a ridiculous sum in London just to drive around.
But this isn’t where it will stop, of course.
This is just a precursor of what is to come.
Limiting people’s travel means they have to stay in the same place. Cars are now a commodity of the rich. Which ensures what when the world war begins? Right. That people won’t immediately flee city centers. That they can’t AFFORD the mass exodus. And even if they could, where would they go? This is just another form of control, a far reach of the government. And sure, for now, it’s just London. But you want to drive in your car? Your van? You have to pay the tax, or get caught by one of the multitude of cameras and pay a ridiculously high penalty.
So you know what? Good for these guys.
Good for them, because while I agree with wanting to lower emissions? Clean air? You can’t just tax the poor when the cost of living is through the roof. Without replacing their modes of transportation without solid public works in place to replace this. You have to HELP your fellow man.
2 million people in the London area are paying the per day cost to drive in the city. 220,000 tickets issued. So far, as of September 4th, 2023.
And for what? Cleaner air? People still have to drive, work, live, get groceries. 2 million people, still drive. All this does is HURT those who can’t.
And set a precedent for the government to watch their people. To limit travel. And I doubt other governments aren’t taking note of what London is doing, how much push back they’re getting, how far they can take it. Sure, today, it’s tickets.
But when is it used for even more nefarious purposes? And this is nefarious. What about the older people? Mobility issues? There has to be a solid transportation system in place. What about grocery runs? Guess you can only get exactly what you can carry. Want to buy something big? Too big for you to easily carry out of a store and onto the nearest bus or subway? Too bad, order it online. Which means more documentation for what people are buying, where they are going.
And if a world war fully breaks out? There will definitely be a rationing system put into place.
A cashless society is coming.
And what does that mean?
It means that we switch from ATMs, checks, to digital, digital, digital.
Where every purchase you make is recorded, from the time, to the place, to the amount. What did you buy? An eternal receipt.
Sure, this affects things like drug dealers, it limits an illegal use of funds. But it also limits parents slipping their kids pocket money. It limits you loaning a friend twenty bucks. It means every purchase, every exchange? Everything? Can be taxed. Traced.
Forget loaning your friend twenty dollars, now it’s 17.30 after tax.
Want the money back? Will you expect your full 20? Or will your friend send 17.30, which is now 15.80 by the time it gets back to you?
The government can tax it all.
And watch it all.
And can stop purchases it doesn’t like.
Rationing.
And sure, in America the FedNow has only just rolled out.
But banks are closing.
And everything is gearing up for the inevitable.
A cashless society.
A society where the government watches everything.
Revelations 13, the New International Version.
15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.
Now, I don’t think this is happening today, or tomorrow. I don’t think this is happening next year either. That’s skipping a lot of steps. These things will happen in an order, according to the word of GD.
But I do think we’re seeing the foundation of this inevitability.
And no, I don’t think it’s a literal tattoo of a number. But a credit card? A microchip?
Oh, absolutely. It’s my belief that eventually, everyone will get this implanted. And that the chip will not only be a credit card, but will act as a tracking device. A method of control.
But not until after another Great War.
Until all the other things that were spoken of, come to pass. And odds are? I won’t live to see this come to fruition. Why should I be any better than any other man to presume I will live to see this occur? But I think we’re seeing the ground work for it.

The Ultimate Guide to Car Booking: Tips and Tricks for a Smooth Ride
Tumblr media
Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, a business trip, or exploring a new city, car booking can be a convenient and cost-effective way to navigate through your destination. Car rentals offer the freedom to explore at your own pace and provide a level of flexibility that public transportation cannot match. In this ultimate guide, we will explore essential tips and tricks to ensure a smooth and hassle-free car booking experience.
Plan Ahead and Compare Options
Prior to starting your trip, it's essential to prearrange and contrast diverse vehicle rental choices. Reserving ahead enables you to lock in optimal prices and guarantees accessibility during busy travel periods. Make use of numerous digital platforms and comparison sites to evaluate costs, car models, and rental terms from varying rental providers.
Choose the Right Vehicle
Selecting the right vehicle for your trip is key to a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Consider the number of passengers, the amount of luggage, and the type of terrain you'll encounter. For city exploration, opt for compact cars for easy maneuverability, while an SUV or minivan might be suitable for a family road trip. Choosing the right vehicle will also impact the rental cost, so make an informed decision based on your needs.
Read and Understand the Rental Agreement
Before finalizing your car booking, carefully read and understand the rental agreement. Pay attention to the terms and conditions, including fuel policies, mileage limitations, additional fees, insurance coverage, and any restrictions on cross-border travel. If anything is unclear, don't hesitate to reach out to the car rental service for clarification.
Book Directly with the Car Rental Service
While third-party websites can be helpful for comparison, it's often best to book directly with the car rental service. This allows you to take advantage of exclusive offers, loyalty programs, and personalized customer service. Moreover, booking directly can give you more flexibility in making changes to your reservation if necessary.
Consider Insurance Coverage
Insurance coverage is a crucial aspect of car booking. Most car rental services offer insurance options, including Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), which reduce your liability in case of accidents or theft. Before your trip, check with your own auto insurance provider and credit card company to see if your existing coverage extends to rental cars. If not, consider purchasing the necessary insurance from the car rental service.
Check for Discounts and Deals
Car rental services often offer discounts and promotional deals that can significantly reduce your rental costs. Look out for special offers on the company's website or subscribe to their newsletter for updates on exclusive discounts. Additionally, check if you qualify for any membership benefits, such as AAA or AARP, which often offer discounted rates with partnering car rental companies.
Be Mindful of Hidden Fees
While booking your rental car, be wary of hidden fees that might be added during the process. These could include additional charges for airport pickup, early returns, additional drivers, or GPS rentals. Review the breakdown of fees before confirming your booking to avoid any surprises when you pick up the car.
Pre-Inspect the Car
Before driving away, thoroughly inspect the rental car for any existing damages, scratches, or dents. Bring any issues to the attention of the rental company and document them with photos or a written agreement. This prevents you from being held responsible for pre-existing damages upon returning the vehicle.
Understand the Fuel Policy
Car rental services typically operate on either a full-to-full or a full-to-empty fuel policy. With a full-to-full policy, you receive the car with a full tank and are expected to return it with a full tank. On the other hand, a full-to-empty policy requires you to pay for a full tank upfront and return the car with any fuel left. Always opt for the full-to-full policy to avoid paying inflated fuel charges.
Conclusion
Car booking can be a convenient and cost-effective way to travel, offering unparalleled freedom and flexibility. By planning ahead, choosing the right vehicle, understanding rental agreements, and being mindful of hidden fees, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride throughout your journey. Follow these tips and tricks for a hassle-free car rental experience and make the most of your next adventure!

Date Night - ?
Purposely sabotaging my posts by only tagging them DCL. (I still mark triggers.) Does not matter because it reaches the same amount of people either way, 0.
Romance this time. Very rare for a few reasons, which I will shortly list and then begin writing.
"Roleplay" form of writing: Puppet sees his characters as his own children in a way. Having them date each other feels off, unless there is another user involved.
"Lack of candidates." Self explanatory, Grim's characters do not match well with Puppet's, especially when Grim has pure villains.
But here we begin.
She swings her legs on the bench, counting the time. How much wait? How long will it take? She looks at her watch to see if her time keeping is accurate, the light blue glow contrasting against her black suit. Black suit, black- is black not harm? Isn't knowing that forbidden?
And there comes the yin to her yang. There she is, Blood, someone so beautiful to Honey. Blood's white suit, her lack of care for time, mysterious attitude.
"Hey! Blood! Took you long enough!" Honey says, getting up excitedly and running towards Blood, arms open.
"Hey~ Woah, calm down Honey." Blood says, her voice lower than Honey's but still getting all the attention as she hugs her.
"Blood! Why did it take you so long?" Honey exclaims, shaking Blood.
"Wanted to have you get even more excited, better be on the edge than follow a schedule." Blood responds, patting Honey's yellow hair.
"Funny you say that, considering our jobs." Honey jokes, moving her head against Blood's chest and smiling within the hug.
"And funny you keep stalling, don't we have to catch that transportation?" Blood says, releasing Honey from the hug and grabbing her hand. "Let's go!"
"Eep, yup!" Honey follows, keeping up, though Blood makes bigger steps. "Slow down, hehe."
Blood puts her hand up, palm glowing a light blue as energy forms in it, using the energy to help push Honey and make her go faster. She halts the speed walking once they reach the ticket station, grabbing Honey in a hug yet again.
"Alright, stay safe while I get the tickets." Blood says, nodding to Honey.
"Okay! Don't take too long!" Honey responds, holding Blood's hand for a bit longer before she goes, Blood giving a smile and nod, her black hair covering a third of her face.
Blood... contrast so much... opposites attract right? A white suit, white is enhancement, a good thing. Black hair is harm? Black eyes, the eyes matter more than the hair, yes. Blood's eye does not contain harm, it is just a normal light blue. Blood would not hide anything too.
"Got the tickets!" Blood says, rushing over.
"Alright, let's go!" Honey responds, grabbing Blood's hand this time and walking to the vehicle.
The two of them get in and take their seats, next to each other. Honey moves close to Blood, leaning against her as the ride begins. She looks up at Blood, going up from her hands to her face, noticing every detail, from the darkness of her skin to the light blue in her eyes.
"You good Honey?" She asks, looking to Honey.
"Yup, just admiring your beauty." Honey responds, hugging Blood.
"Heheh, you are beautiful too you know." Blood says, leaning over and tickling her.
"Ee stopp we are in public." Honey squirms out, giggling.
"Okayy, if you say so." Blood responds, stopping and leaning against Honey. "You ever wonder why we use transportation vehicles if we can just use mages with teleportation?"
"It's more scenic, and they probably do not have the mana to constantly warp people. Helps in two aspects! Oh, and could probably just pay more for mages." Honey says, excited to share her ideas.
"Yeah, this is free." Blood responds, looking to the outside.
Honey turns to look outside as well, smiling next to Blood, happy to be going together.

Highly Demanding Businesses in UAE
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a rapidly-growing country that has attracted huge investments, both local and foreign, in recent years. This is due to its largely untapped natural resources and growing population, making it an ideal place for entrepreneurs to start their businesses. But with so many options to choose from, which businesses are the most demanding and profitable? In this article, we will look at the highly demanding businesses in the UAE and explore why they are such good choices for entrepreneurs looking to invest their capital and create a successful business.
What are the most demanding businesses in UAE?
The businesses that are most in demand in the UAE are those that provide goods or services that are essential to the daily lives of residents. These businesses include food and beverage providers, retailers, transportation companies, and healthcare providers. While there is always some level of demand for these businesses, it tends to fluctuate depending on the time of year and the current economic climate.
The challenges of starting a business in the UAE
As the UAE is a new and upcoming market, there are many challenges that entrepreneurs face when starting a business here. The biggest challenge is the lack of knowledge and understanding of the UAE market. This makes it difficult to make informed decisions about what products or services to offer, how to price them, and how to reach potential customers.
Another challenge is the high cost of doing business in the UAE. Many start-ups find it difficult to cover all the costs associated with setting up a business in the UAE, such as rent, salaries, and marketing expenses. In addition, there is often a need to obtain visas for employees and sponsors, which can be costly.
The third challenge facing entrepreneurs in the UAE is the tough competition. Due to the booming economy and increasing number of businesses operating in the UAE, there is a lot of competition for customers. This can make it difficult for new businesses to stand out from the crowd and attract attention.
Despite these challenges, there are still many opportunities for entrepreneurs who are willing to take on the risk and invest in a start-up in the UAE. With a strong understanding of the market and a well-thought-out business plan, it is possible to succeed in this demanding environment.

After your company is registered with the DED, you'll need to obtain a trade license from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). The DCCI will require you to provide certain documents, including proof of commercial activity and a trade name certificate. You'll also need to pay a licensing fee.
Once you have your trade license, you can start operating your business in the UAE. However, there are still some important things to keep in mind. Businesses of all sizes can benefit from a presence in this bustling market, provided they can meet the requirements needed for successful operations. few updates cause its been a while
first, and less exciting one: i went to the cinema with a friend today. after what, 3 years?? probably. but i forgot its carnaval for a moment, and was reminded by seeing so many boobs. so many. girls with boobs out. in public transport. panicked for 3 seconds, remembered where i live and what time of the year it was and everything was good again.
second, we might be able to buy the 4th floor apartment! im having a crisis tho, bc my new bedroom will be less than half the size of my current one and its been very difficult to plan where tf am i gonna fit everything. as i said in the last few updates, i sleep inside a print shop now, so i need to have my bed and also all the machinery i use, and my books, and the product inventory... and beyond the new room being smaller, it is also very VERY... diagonal? crooked? one of the walls goes on diagonal to the rest of the room, with one other being 1,97m long and another being 2,60m, and both the crooked and the remaining one are 3,10m. i'll update again with images eventually, but the whole place is way smaller.
third, we are both, me and mum now, on our last leg with dad. he doesnt contribute anymore, he spent all of our money, he made debts when i specifically told him not to and im very suspicious of him having an affair. i dont recognize him anymore. he hasnt been a dad, my dad, in a long while. i have my issues with mom, but she doesnt deserve this. in fact we've been way closer and getting along way better. we're at the point of maybe waiting for the new apartment to be bought and finished and telling dad to get his shit together and leave. i dnot have the mental fortitude to deal with his shit, and i wont be taking care of a person who does not take care of himself. one of my friends called me a caregiver, as im my parents only child, but i refuse to be one. i dnot want kids, i will not parent my parents.
fourth, and the most exciting news for me: was approved on the post grad interview! i might be reaching (no one else thinks so), but im trying to be logical an at the same time not get any expectations. But. if there were 40 openings, 32 people were selected to be interviwed, and only 30 attended, me being one of them, this may, maybe, mean that im in, right?? i sure hope so, but i also worry bc its paid, and i have no idea if i can pay for it. i cant get a grant, or a scholarship, bc dad's gross salary is high enough to take me out of those lists, even tho hes receiving less than half of it. i cant apply on my own bc my address is the same as my parents. and having no job other than the few cons im attending will get me not enough money for the monthly pay. it may sound stupid in dollars, as its less than 60usd per month, but thats 280brl and i make about 180 average per convention. a few cons i make more, but i dont have a con every month, or more than one per month most times, and i also have to pay for them anyways, an the material. anyways, im happy but slightly discouraged. i already had to give up the japanese classes, idk how im gonna keep up with my studies.
thats it for now. wish i could sell things internationally, but no one would buy and the mail service would be expensive anyway
