ok but how funny would it be for an adaptation of The Murderbot Diaries to be told from the humans' perspectives? Every single one of the books would translate directly into a superficially generic sci-fi horror/thriller as the humans face off against whatever threat (giant alien fauna, killer robots, evil corporations, alien remnant contamination, etc) until the world's snarkiest, most anxiety-riddled deus ex machina comes wall-jumping in to save the day in sweat pants and steel toed boots. Brilliant.

THE MIGHTY DUCKS INVITATIONAL '22

So I know that it may have been announced that TMD week would be starting tomorrow, however as you can probably see that isn’t going to happen.

While unfortunately we can’t make the anniversary proper we are going to hold the 2nd annual Mighty Ducks week on October 23-29, 2022.

We are going to follow the basic rules of last year. An updated FAQ and how to post or have your work included will be posted closer to the event.

is actually very very good at math!!

he was a tutor for the 9th/10th graders for a bit to get volunteer hours and also cause he just likes doing math

you’d expect it to be like doing homework with ur dad and the poor kid is in tears while deans like “WHATS NINE. TIMES TWO.” but he’s actually surprisingly patient

if he’s explained something a few times and they still don’t get it he’ll just try it a different way until they get it and work them through the problem

has rlly strong relationships with the 9th and 10th graders cause of this and is essentially their older brother figure

the amount of 14/15 year olds that he’s given relationship advice too is insane (id be one of the 14 year olds probably)

his type is secretly quiet girls cause he finds them rlly interesting and likes the thought of them being happy around him but quiet around everyone else

it all stemmed from the girl he liked in 8th grade who helped pick up his pencils when she accidentally knocked his pencil case out of his hand (she was a quiet nerdy girl)

like a whole year later and he’s still trying to rizz her up 💀

Chapter 4 Release

Hello All!

This has been the most hectic two weeks of my life, moving abroad and starting the first years of actual face to face classes than staring at a zoom screen and canvas has taken its toll on this poor soul. It’s been fun but mighty stressful so apologies again for the delay!

Chapter 13, Even If We’re Apart, of TMD is now available to read on FFN/AO3. 

A little snippet: 

There was a deafening cheer across the ramp and the sound of camera shutters clicking at a rapid speed was the only noise that broke through it. The man walked towards the rendezvous area and was immediately greeted by his partner, seeing the two share a tight hug only tugged on Mimi’s heartstrings, she could barely wait anymore. A few more of Yamato’s crew mates came out, some she could recognise through their appearances in her video calls with her husband, others she had only heard about. They all seemed to look different than the image she had of them in her mind, had Yamato changed since the last time they saw each other on video too?

Her question was soon answered as Yamato finally stepped out, lifting his arm to shade his face from the sunlight before his eyes effortlessly landed on Mimi.

What happened next would always remain a blur in her mind, and had it not been for Takeru recounting every second accurately at whatever chance he got, Mimi always feared that she might end up forgetting it altogether one day.

Ack! If you're still having jaw pain and horrible popping, I'd suggest googling the phrase "temperomandibular joint dysfunction" — it's really common in people with hypermobility and other joint issues — and maybe stop trying to open your mouth that far just to see if you can. Overopening is one of the worst things you can do to exacerbate it and increase the chances of actual dislocation. The muscles need to rest and relax to help your jaw settle back where it's supposed to be; there are exercises you can do to keep it in neutral, such as pressing the tip of your tongue directly behind your upper front teeth and letting your jaw relax/drop gently by itself within that limit, i.e. with your tongue acting as a tether so you don't overopen. If it's TMD, and it sounds like it is, muscle relaxants always help, and heat applied to the neck and shoulders as well as the jaw itself. And if you do see someone about it, a specialty TMD dentist would probably be more helpful to you than a doctor, unless you have a specialist you're seeing for your joints. Good luck, and I hope the academic stuff *lets* you relax! I know at least two people who got TMD along with a PhD. >.> Would be preferable to be a jawless skull...

Ahh thank you, this is so sweet of you. I've looked into TMD a bit before actually, so there's probably something to it. And don't worry, I haven't been pushing it! I just went back and re-worded that tag lol - what I had originally said there was "if I open my mouth very wide" but what I meant was more along the lines of "if I open my mouth much at all" (I feel like maybe that's a grammatical regionalism because the more I stare at it the more I'm like "why do I say it like that?")

I hadn't thought about doing heat on my neck/shoulders though, I'll have to try that one! I've been taking magnesium glycinate for jaw clenching and general muscle tension for quite a while now and it has for sure been helping, I can definitely tell a difference the next day when I forget to take it. One of my other medications gives me some wicked jaw clenching if I take it too frequently, but I've mostly figured out how to walk that line and haven't had that issue for a bit, and that one's a very different kind of pain - that's an intense ache along my cheekbone whereas this is more of a stab in joint itself and an inability to fully bite down. I was using a nightguard that my dentist recommended for a while, but the super obnoxious thing is that I actually don't clench my jaw when I'm sleeping. Sleeping makes it WAY better! I only do it when I'm awake 🙃 I'm actually due for a dentist visit soon so good timing, I suppose! But oof, I absolutely believe that about the PhD to TMD pipeline. When I was finishing up my first master's program we had to do a portfolio that, in hindsight, was objectively bonkers - to give you an idea, the portfolio I just submitted was 26 pages... the other one was 339 and they sprang it on us as a new requirement with about 8 weeks' notice 💀 anyway! I had an awful ulcerative colitis flare during the latter half of that semester - probably totally unrelated to the stress, right? 🙄

An Unfortunate Announcement

Guys, I am sorry but my life and work just became overwhelming and also my heart just wasn’t in it and so I am going to say that we aren’t really going to go forward with TMD week tomorrow. And given that interest for this in general has been tepid I didn’t have high hopes that we would match last year in turnout.

If you made/make something over the next week please tag it as #tmdweek and I will reblog it but I won’t be mass promoting the event or do end of day round ups.

I am so sorry for this and if you want to pick up and reschedule you are welcome to and I will change the name just let me know.
