NUREYEV STILL DOESN'T SAY THE LINE RIGHT. IT'S STILL NOT VERBATIM WHAT JUNO SAID. I'M SOBBING.
Juno's version of the line is, "I never want to see you again."
(Juno also says to include the bit about not loving him, but ofc even Peter Nureyev can't lie that well).
Nureyev's version of the line is, "I do not want to see you anymore, Juno." (and later, "I have no interest in seeing you any longer").
Which... it fits more into Nureyev's pattern of speech (as the previous fits more into Juno's), but is still completely changed. Especially when Nureyev asks, "You said it would just take those words to excise you from my life entirely, didn't you?" BECAUSE NO. NO, THOSE ARENT THE WORDS. HE DOESNT EVEN GIVE JUNO THE CHANCE TO THINK ABOUT IT EITHER. IMMEDIATELY STARTS TALKING AGAIN.
After all of that, he comes so close and yet STILL cannot say it to him. The great thief, master lier, professional manipulator, and yet he still cannot force out that little phrase of finite.
Bye y'all, I'm crying for the next month :')

I am just obsessed with the recurring themes of our lives as stories in the Junoverse.
Alessandra Strong reminding us that there are no Happy Endings in real life, only Happy Middles.
Juno being reminded that stories are a way humans have of trying to frame our lives in a way that makes sense, but real life is not that simple. In the reminder that you might want to become the villain in a story to make sense of it but maybe sometimes little kids who live in Oldtown die and no matter how much you blame yourself, it is just not that simple.
In the way Sarah Steel got her story stolen away from her. Andromeda's story, yes, but also her story. And how she couldn't deal with that.
How Juno tried to rebuild a story to survive, with him as a hero as much as he was embarrassed to admit it. And with the part of Sarah Steel pumping through his veins as the ultimate enemy. An epic of heroes and monsters. The way his life was not a simple story in which there was One Clue that would explain everything, One Answer from Ben that would make sense of it all.
The way Juno got robbed of his story by Ramses. Made all those sacrifices, those actions that felt heavy on his shoulders for a plotline that didn't exist. The plot twist was the unraveling of the story, leaving only pain and sadness behind. The way Juno was able to overcome that. To start a new story, to do with his life as he saw fit.
I also love the reminder that we do need stories like Mick's to keep us hopeful. To gather strength to face the big mean world. The acceptance of how useful and sacred the tool of "stories" is.
The way dreams - stories- like having a life of adventure among the stars with the one you love, or like having a home in a city that means death but also hope to you… that those are also necessary. But we can't live in a dream. And the dreams may pass, but it's okay that we dreamed them.
The way Juno could recognize the brutality of stealing Nureyev's story away from the thief. The cruelness of it. How he could sense it coming, looming from that door. How afraid he was for Nureyev.
The way Nureyev's only way of coping all these years has been telling himself a story over and over again. A story of martyrdom. A story of devotion… In order to keep Juno away and not succumb to the desperation to be next to someone he loves and feels like he doesn't deserve, he has been telling himself this story. This lie of how Juno would be better off away from him. How Juno would never understand the sacredness of his life's work.
All these stories, all these versions of what's going on… All these precious lives being used as little clogs of an infernal machine that does not care for stories. Only results and getting richer and richer…
Just ugh… this podcast…

[SPOILERS FOR TPP S5] so y'all are telling me that the first time juno and nureyev met, juno tried escaping out the window
and when juno tracks nureyev down in s5, nureyev escapes through the window
the first time, juno was ignoring nureyev's offer to help, convinced that he'd just get in the way. the second time, nureyev was ignoring juno's offer to help, believing that he'd just get in the way.
this show makes me go absolutely INSANE

okay. the thing about tpp is i don’t WANT a ‘bittersweet’ or a ‘hopeful’ or a ‘realistic’ ending. i want juno steel to be damseled, nureyev (and rita, hopeful arinko crime family) to rescue him, i want audio-only kisses and an the-owl-house/alice-isnt-dead style time skip where they are happy and safe and together. i want an apology WITH TEARS for what this podcast has PUT ME THROUGH. is that rlly to much to ask Kevin Vibert and Harley Takagi Kaner??? IS IT??

The TPP production scripts are so very very good.
Nureyev, grabbing a ripped corner of a page out of an overflowing folder marked “Juno Steel” that reads “tell me to stop and I’ll stop”:
I do not want to see you anymore, Juno.
Juno, heartbroken:
that hurts but I respect your wishes
Nureyev, panicked, staring at the rest of the “Juno Steel” folder before shoving it into the already jam-packed “For Future Consideration” drawer and forcing it closed with his entire body weight:
BUT ONLY AFTER. I help get you out of here. So come with me let’s go. Together. Because that is obviously the sensible thing to do. How foolish you are, dear detective, who I no longer wish to associate with.
Juno, interrupted mid-heartbreak internal monologue:
???

Quick reminder to everyone who is caught up on Penumbra: the Ruby 7 is still in Juno’s pocket, and Peter doesn’t know what Ruby actually is.
The next episode is going to be WILD.

Y'ALL. Re-listening to The Penumbra Podcast (s3 now lol bc yes I am specifically looking for Nureyev lore since s4/5 new info) and Man in Glass has me SOBBING IT WAS RIGHT THERE ALL ALONG.
s3ep2, Buddy telling Nureyev his "calling card"
Buddy: "An endoring moral core, coupled with a strong desire to excise that core completely...like having a heart embarrasses you. I brought you on this ship for that moral core. If I distrust you, darling, it is only because you have proven that you can do anything you set your mind to, and so I am certain that you are capable of excising those morals for good. You just haven't done it yet."
Then later, s3ep2 still, Nureyev is talking with Juno in his room and Nureyev narrates:
Nureyev: 'I feel the weight of potentiality sit heavy on my shoulders, I hear Buddy's words about the excision of my moral core and about my ability to do it. And I realize, for the first time, that there is a kind of helplessness in complete freedom[...]when trouble arises, I disappear. [...]but looking at this new man [Juno], there is nothing I want more than to stay.'
AND THEN AND THEN IN S5ep14 The Sixteen Tons,,, yeah I know this line by heart :')
Nureyev and Juno talking (arguing) after Juno takes him into the closet at the facility (near the beginning of the ep)
Nureyev: "I do not want to see you anymore, Juno."
Juno: "...What?!"
Nureyev: "You said that it would just take those words to excise you from my life entirely, didn't you? Well, I've said them..."
THE EXACT WORD CHOICE. THE WAY HE WANTED TO STAY ON THE SHIP AND JOIN THE AURINKO CRIME FAMILY FOR (money, but also) JUNO. BECAUSE JUNO IS HIS MORAL CORE, THEIR MORALS DO ALIGN. THAT'S WHY THEY WORK SO WELL. SO OFC HE HAS TO "EXCISE" JUNO TO CARRY ON WITH THIS.
Because the reality of it: keeping someone between life and death for YEARS, helping fund the Big Pharma that has vowed to safe Slip and yet also commits such horrific acts, but he has to do it or else he never gets to know Slip or have someone know him as he thinks they should bc surely he must not be worth all of this to Juno, the lady's just being stubborn again and inconsiderate, but deep down Nureyev KNOWS that's not it at all. He knows that Juno does know him and will continue to know more about him, and if he can do that and love Nureyev... well, that means Nureyev could have a future.
But Nureyev has been trying to stretch out the future for over 20 years. He's set his mind to it, and he can do anything he sets his mind to. Including destroying himself until there is nothing left to bother with a future anyway. Until there is nothing for Juno Steel to know and love and so he gets the punishment he believes so adamantly that he deserves long before Juno first left him in that hotel room.
If he is alone, then when trouble comes he can just disappear. If he is alone, there is no one to hurt when that bomb goes off.

Junoverse season five poster I've been working on!
Featuring the things Juno Steel holds closest to his heart, regardless of the space between them.
Hopefully, he can close that distance soon.
I also wrote a Juno-style monologue below~
People say that, sometimes, home isn't a place; it's a person or a feeling, or whatever.
My definition of home used to be found in a shitty old apartment, the endless bustling sounds of my city beyond those walls.
But the apartment itself was just a place. Home was Benten.
After that, it was a feeling shared between two young lovers. Hope for a future I was too naive to realize was rose-tinted.
So, when that didn't work out, home was the bottom of a bottle and a lumpy couch in the corner of an office.
And maybe that version of Juno Steel wouldn't admit it, but home was also Rita's gentle hands, taking away the bottle and putting a blanket over me on bad days.
For a brief, shining stretch of time, home was a group of six thieves- seven with the Ruby- all squished together on a little ship amongst the stars.
One of those people in particular stood out, of course. My thief.
Funny thing, finding a home in someone who didn't believe they even had one. But, where Peter Nureyev built walls, I managed to find a few doors.
Still. By any of those definitions, I haven't been home in a really long time.

with some ppl both making prediction charts and straight up posts about parallels that will show up in the rest of the season, I'd like to toss in my two cents and say that we'll either get a moderately happy timeskip or a really, really tragic ending and I don't think there's an in between
first of all, this is purely speculation and conspiracy, but
Tumblr media Tumblr media
secondly, I'm just thinking about how both juno and nureyev think about their futures. Juno really doesn't know what he wants or where he wants to go right now, and the only place he wants to be (albeit, for nostalgic reasons) is Hyperion City. Nureyev's a repressed fuck, so we don't really have an idea what he would want out of his future, but something hit me. Would he ever trust a happy ending? Look at the Slip debacle, he was tricked into imagining DECADES of a happy ending with the man he loved, only for it to be torn down in a second. That's gotta have SOME lasting trauma, some distrust. He's made it very clear that his only long-term plans have been to repay Slip. So where would Jupeter go, what would they do? Go back to Hyperion, get married, live a mildly content domestic life? ls that even possible after everything? All that's coming to mind is the end of the Hunger Games franchise, so fic writers, do what you will.
It's more likely in my mind that this will all turn towards a Greek tragedy sort of path. Something will be lost, someone will die, someone will suffer, someone will be left broken. If I had to guess, Juno will either be forced to let Nureyev go, or more likely, Juno will lose Nureyev, Final Resting Place style. That's just my two cents though as a lover of drama and tragedies, and that could change as the season goes on.

Just listened to episode one of season 5. Juno is… god he’s just so soft now. Not in the weakness way, either- he’ll still take off his high heels and throw them at you if he needs to- but in the emotions way. He has… I don’t know if kindness is the right way to put it. It’s more like he doesn’t seem bitter anymore.
You see it in the way he treats Cassandra- how he’s not sarcastic, how he’s genuine with her; not just in the background, like he’s afraid to have or show emotions, but upfront and to her face.
You see it with Rita, how he knows her well enough to tell her to sleep in the Ruby- because he knows she’ll be better there, without hiding behind some bullshit excuse about her annoying him to death.
And you see it with Nureyev, and the fact that Juno’s decided to go after him even after being pushed away. In the way he says things- “I always get my man” like it’s not even a question that he’ll find Nureyev, it’s just a matter of when.
For so long, Juno was fighting all the bad in the world because the world sucked and there was nothing he could do but smash at the darkness with a hammer. He fought for good because he couldn’t stand the evil, but I don’t think he ever really believed he was making a difference, just turning black into a slightly lighter gray.
Now, it seems like he’s fighting because he has hope. He gets that the world maybe is a little broken, but there are good parts to it, and he fights for those. He fights because he believes things can be better, just a little bit.
I find that kind of inspiring.
