It shouldn't come as a surprise that when invoking The Red King, a winter worse than anyone has ever seen will follow. Yet here Martyn is trading gold for silk then silk for blankets, wondering if there's more to life to being a weapon. Sure he had somewhat of a plan for this, after all what sort of winter spirit wouldn't? Not him. Yet the cold still invades Dogwart, slipping through every nook and cranny. Though every window and spilling through every door opened.

Most are dealing with it the best they can, yet one hides from the cold, unsure if it's due to being Red or being the Red King. It's anyone's guess. Perhaps even a combination of both.

Treebark Week 2023 Day 3: Saplings/Puppies

Based on a Hades/Persephone-inspired AU that sometimes rattles around in my brain.

Martyn kneels down beneath the old tree to gather a small pile of soil into his palms, cold and damp from the morning rain. He rises gently, as if cradling a child, then blows into his hands with breath as warm as the sun.  The dirt shifts and Ren watches with awe as a small seedling begins to rise from the mound. It reaches up towards Martyn with an unsteady sway, roots sprawling down to anchor themselves around his fingers. Little leaves slowly unfurl from the shoot with near-shyness, then flare open abruptly, eager to catch nourishing daylight in their veins. Martyn grins and raises his hands to give Ren a closer look. “Look’t the lil fella!” He laughs, delighted.  Ren’s fingers twitch with the impulse to reach and touch the sapling, but he thinks better of it. His hands are too clumsy, too cold, too much for new life. Instead, he smiles back at Martyn. “Beautiful."

Martyn is a wanderer, doing odd jobs in various towns until he wears out his welcome and moves onto the next town. Dogwarts is different, and not just because of the amount of hybrids there. People are nice, and Martyn doesn't feel that same itch to leave that he usually does. It helps that his new employer is very nice on the eyes.

There is the issue of the supposed werewolf attacks on the town and the fact that Martyn has to leave before the full moon, but surely that won't be an issue!
