I'm embarrassed to admit, but for the longest time I assumed that Tucker's PDA was made up and had no real-world equivalent 😅, I was born in the year 2000, however I only got a phone when I was like 9 or something, so I wasn't exactly all that familiar with some of the ever-changing early 00s technology.

Ultra-Recyclo-Vegetarianism
Or my attempt to explain what it could be.
I believe that Ultra-Recyclo-Vegetarianism, or not eating anything with a face, is probably a form of sustainable and cruelty free vegetarianism, where Sam only eats things that are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.
This means that she likely mostly eats things that are locally sourced, like the vegetables she can be seen eating, and cruelty free, so she diverts away from meat and likely would only drink milk coming straight from her own dairy cow if she could, so she can ensure that the calf can stay with their mother as long as possible.
(She might also not drink milk during certain seasons so that the cows aren't forced to constantly be pregnant)
Basically, she supports local farms that grow their crops sustainability, and doesn't buy most commercial products, especially if they are from big brands that have more history of mistreatment of their workers: i.e. nothing with a face/commercial packaging.
This also means she won't eat certain things that you would expect of a vegan/vegetarian, if their growth/farming is not sustainable or becomes so, like avocados, almonds, soy, corn and palm oil, especially the commercialised versions.
Basically Sam is not going to support big commercial brands and businesses that mistreat their workers or harm the environment with their practices and that's slay of her honestly.
Her diet is just another way she works to protest :)

Cave boy Danny starts talking about one of the debates Tucker and Sam without mentioning their names when asked who the two are,Danny panics again and says that Sam is Selina since that's not that big of a jump when he starts saying her name
"One of my best friends would agree with you." Brucie suddenly speaks up one night at Dinner when Damian rants about his school not offering enough Vegetarian options. "She is an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian."
Bruce blinks having never heard the term before. A quick glance around the table tells him that neither have the others. Must be slang from his universe then. "What does that mean?"
"She doesn't eat anything with a face," Brucie explains. The curve of his lips has the tiniest amount of bestowed fondness that could only come from infatuation. Oh, Brucie is sweet on the girl. Bruce feels mildly alarmed as all his kids and Alfred sits up in interest when spotting it.
Unaware of what he just unwillingly gave away Brucie continues "Not to be confused with being a vegan because she will eat bread and cheese, but not often. She gets real mad when people mislabel her."
Dick grins, leaning over his forgotten dinner to pin Brucie under an eager stare. "I bet. Mislabeling is the worst."
"It is!" Brucie agrees, seemingly satisfied that someone else feels the same. "Especially when getting her to like you is like trying to get a cat's approval. But it's totes worth it when you do. No one has your back better than her."
A....cat's loyalty? Oh no. Surely it couldn't be-?
"What's your best friend's name?" Steph speaks up asking what's on everyone's mind. They all lean in a little closer as Brucie mindlessly gathers some rice on his fork.
"Her name is Sa-" Brucie takes a bite of his rice before swallowing. It takes everything in him not to quote Alfred and scold him for speaking with his mouth full. How Brucie grew up with such manners, Bruce would never know. "Selina! Her name is Selina."
Oh.
It seemed even in another world Bruce's heart would fall into Selina Kyle's hands.
His kids all but burst into cheers. Even Jason, and that was very hard to accomplish in the last few years.
"I knew it! I knew it!"
"Of course, it's Selina! Who else could it have been?"
"I suppose Kyle is not too horrid a partner for Father."
Duke and Cass high-five while Alfred seems to be glowing in parental pride as the other kids chat about his on-and-off girlfriend again. If a civilian version of himself still fell for her, Bruce could convince his Selina to quit the crime life and be his permanently.
Brucie stares a comprehensive eye around the table, so Bruce takes pity on him.
"I have a Selina as well. My kids....enjoy her company." He says, watching blue eyes swing at him as tiny black bangs fall slightly over them. It's adorable, and he finally understands why he had so many admirers. He bets civilian Brucie breaks just as many, if not more, hearts than he did at that age. "How long have you known Selina for?"
"Um...since she moved to my school when we were ten, so about four years, give or take?" Brucie shrugs, a slight blush overtaking his face. "She's great."
Oh, Bruce bet she is.
"Wait." Tim suddenly speaks up, eyes narrow in mistrust. Bruce had noticed before that the second youngest was suspicious of their dimensional visitor. He had been meaning to pull him aside to talk about it. "You said one of your best friends. Who is the other?"
"...Ethan. My other best friend is Ethan," Brucie says after a moment. He must mean Ethan Bennett. Bruce thinks wistfully of the old days when he would play basketball with his dear friend before he was lost in Clayface.
But why did Brucie pause on Ethan's name like that? It almost seemed like he was very carefully selecting that name or was trying to control his facial reaction to it.
A familiar blush bloomed over Brucie's checks and- oh. The boy had spoken about wishing he was from a world where bisexuality was more common, didn't he?
It would make sense. It's not like Ethan hadn't crossed his mind once or twice when Bruce was a teenager, either.
Tim's eyes narrow further. "I don't believe you."
"And I believe you can't stand the sight of your reflection because you're convinced no one will ever want it either." Brucie cheerfully chirps back before closing his eyes and sighing as if tired. He slumps in his chair, leaning his head against the headrest. "Sorry, that was mean. I'm trying to be less mean."
Bruce frowns at him, aware of Tim's eyes going glossy to his right but his son doesn't seem to want to step away. All conversation stops as they glare daggers at Brucie. Dick especially seems the most upset. "That was uncool Brucie"
"Yeah, sorry force of habit. My older sister and I-"
"Your what?" Bruce cuts him off, wondering if he heard right.
"My older sister?"
"You have a sister?"
"Yeah, don't you?"
"No," Bruce whispers. "No, I don't. I'm an only child."
"Oh. I'm the second youngest. I have an older sister, an older brother, and a younger sister." Brucie turns over to Tim to offer a sincere apology that the other gracious takes, but Bruce can't hear him over the sound of blood rushing between his ears.
"Mother and Father had more children?"
"Kind of." Brucie's face twists slightly in consideration. "Tommy and Harley are adopted. They are technically cousins since they were made by my uncle Vlad. Kate.....my older sister Kate, is my aunt Alicia's bio-kid but she was raised by my parents since she was one since Aunt Alicia wasn't...in the best mental state to care for her. No hard feelings are between them."
"Tommy, as in Tommy Elliot?!" Dick gasps, springing to his feet. "He is your adoptive older brother!?"
Brucie appears startled by his reaction, but he nods all the same. Bruce feels dread sink into his stomach.
"He's evil!" Dick shouts.
"I know." Brucie shrugs, uncaring. "Tommy has some issues, and he had them since he was...fourteen, but he's not dangerous.."
"Did you all miss that he said Harley is his younger sister? Harley as in Harleen Quinzel?" Jason cuts in, twisting to pin Brucie with a hard stare. "That's her real name, isn't it?"
"Well, her real name is Harleen Wayne, but she prefers Harley," Bruice says carefully. "Why? Do you know her?"
"She's evil too!" Dick gasps. "Brucie, you're in terrible danger with those two around!"
"Nah, Kate will stop them." Brucie waves his hand. "Sides Tommy and Harley are always traveling. Neither are home much these days."
Bruce feels a headache growing behind his eyes as Dick desperately tries to explain what happens to Brucie's adoptive siblings in their world. At the same time, his counterpart argues on his sibling's behalf.
(No one knows about the electric candles disappearing from the dinner table as the house descends into madness, trying to make the dimension travel realize his danger. Even fewer are aware of Danny's silent apology to Sam, Tucker, Jazz, Dan, or Dani for butchering their names and somehow still connecting them to someone in this world.)

DPxDC cheat sheet
So. I'm not a nitpicking person. I understand that mistakes can be made and typos are a thing and sometimes we are just not the kind of person that can make words work for a variety of reasons (dyslexia, for example).
This is not for that people.
This is for everyone who stumbled into this fandom by mistake and had learned things via osmosis and don't have the energy/time to check the source material for the "correct" thing.
Y'all are valid.
This is a cheat sheet of correct terms and fandom things that are not correct that I've seen in fics.
Disclaimer: while experimenting with canon is fun, this is just to lay down the rules of what's what so it can be the springboard of y'all's beautiful creations.
Given that some people just can't behave online: "If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything." Did I say something wrong? You have resources better than this? You want to make a nitpick? Cool! More info to the mix — But come at me in a hurtful and insulting way and I'm blocking you on the spot.
[Will add more when I think more/have suggestions]
DP SIDE - Post "A Glitch in Time" Canon
Sam is Jewish
Sam is ultra-recyclo-vegetarian aka "doesn't eat anything with a face". Is not a real thing.
It's "Amity Park" not "Amity Ville".
Wes is fanon, same as Kyle. Info on Wes here
It's "Casper High", not "Caspar High".
Mr. Lancer doesn't have a canon name. Common fanon ones are William or Edward.
Ghost obsessions are canon. In AGIT, it's explained that ghosts have a purpose or drive. Danny's purpose is "protection" of both humans and ghosts.
Ghost cores are fanon-ish (there is a mention that Danny's ice powers come from his "core" temperature and is never addressed again, of course) (Episode is "Urban Jungle"). Then in the videogame there are different "types" of ghost powers and something about their cores? Very confusing.
Ghost speak is fanon. However, in AGIT, it's revealed that there's an ghost alphabet, and it's ancient form is based on sanskrit and tamil alphabets. Codex of Ghost alphabet.
Ghost Hunger is canon! In AGIT it's revealed that ghosts feed on emotions and thoughts to stay sapient. If they don't, they become feral with time. Halfas feed from their human side, remaining stable.
Danny is the bridge between the spirit world and living world - canon!
Danny beats the Ghost King Pariah Dark in combat, but faints and that fight is never addressed in the series again. Ghost King!Danny is fanon-ish so go ham with interpreting that. (Episode is "Reign Storm")
Tucker is the reincarnation?? (never stated in canon, but he does look alike) of a pharaoh named "Duul Aman" (Duulaman is also accepted as spelling). Said pharaoh never appears in the series as a ghost, just a picture. Who does appear is his (evil) right hand man, Hotep-Ra, who tries to manipulate Tucker (Episode is "King Tuck"). That Tucker gets cool magic from this event is fanon. But cool.
Sam gets possessed by Undergrowth via a vine straight into her spine (gross). Undergrowth calls her "his daughter" and she tries to lure Danny into "joining her to take over the world". (Episode is "Urban Jungle"). That Sam gets cool plant powers from this event is fanon. But cool.
The Fenton parents are never physically abusive - just comedically neglectful in the way parents are depicted in early 2000s cartoons. Incompetent, misguided, dumb... but they are shown to love their kids. The even accept Danny the 2 canon times they find out about him (Episodes "Reality Trip" and "Phantom Planet").
Jazz is never shown as "mature" in the sense that she had to parent Danny and be the responsible adult. She is comedically the "annoying and meddling older sister" from early 2000s cartoons. She wants to be considered an adult. She couldn't see Youngblood, who is a child ghost that cannot be seen by adults, and Danny had to push her into acting childish to make her see him.
Axiom labs is bought by Vlad's company "Vlad.co" not "DALV.co". DALV.co was the fake company that paid for Maddie and Danny to fly to a conference but stranded them in a forest where Vlad's cabin coincidentally was. (Episode "Maternal Instincts")
Dan is not older Danny. He is not even called "Dan" in canon, just "Dark Danny". He is Danny's ghost half, who killed his human half, ate/merged with Vlad's ghost side and then tried to kill Vlad's human side. Was losing his humanity what made him evil? Was it merging with the Bad Guy(tm) of the series? 🤷‍♀️ Take it as you will. (Episode is "The Ultimate Enemy")
Freakshow is NOT a clown. He is the ringmaster of a goth circus (called Circus Gothica). Danny's headcanoned fear of clowns can be traced back to the "circus" and clown-related imagery surrounding Freakshow's performances, but not directly BY Freakshow. (Episodes "Control Freaks" and "Reality Trip")
DC SIDE
Damian (not Damien or Demian) is never confirmed his religion. Fanon has accepted he is Muslim.
Bruce is from a Jewish family (Martha Wayne was Jewish), but he considers himself an atheist. Same with Kate Kane (Batwoman).
It's "Selina" Kyle, not "Selena" or "Salina".
It's "Talia" Al Ghul, not "Thalia".
It's "Jason", not "Jayson".
Damian is vegetarian, not vegan. It means he doesn't eat meat, but eats animal produces like eggs, milk, etc. He went vegetarian after rescuing Batcow from a slaughterhouse, he didn't arrive at the manor already being vegetarian.
Duke is NOT adopted. Bruce is fostering him temporarily and is more of a mentor to him than a father. Duke considers the others his siblings, though. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DUKE: Part 1 | Part 2
Dick was not adopted as a kid, Dick was Bruce's ward. That term is not used anymore, though. Adoption happened later in Dick's adulthood.
It's Gotham, not "Gothem".
Cassandra IS adopted. Legally.
Cassandra's nickname is "Cass", not "Cassie". Cassie is the nickname of another character also named Cassandra (Cassandra Sandsmark, Wondergirl)
"Little Wing" is a canon nickname for Jason from Dick.
"Baby bird" or "Baby bat" are fanon-ish(?). Little Wing, Dickie, Dickie-bird... Canon! Jaylad is not canon, but Jaybird is canon! A GREAT post with receipts about all nicknames. ("Replacement" isn't canon btw).
Stephanie Brown was the 4th Robin. She is not adopted, and was part of the batfamily because she was dating Tim. She is still considered batfamily even if they are not dating anymore.
In Hush, when Jason comes back to Gotham, Jason puts a knife on Tim's throat, but barely leaves a cut. Tim's throat wasn't injured during the Titans Tower attack.
Cass is selectively mute because she wasn't taught any language beyond what she needed to predict people's movements. She doesn't know sign language. She doesn't know how to read and write (more recent comics show her reading a bit). But she could learn, with difficulty. Very in depth analysis of Cass' disability.
Jason's "Pit Madness" is fanon. Canon offers Ra's saying "the Pit alters the mind - could happen for a few days or for years, you never know" or something like that, and that's it. There is reason to believe that the Lazarus Pit can cloud judgement for a while but there is no voice in the back of the head or the Pit taking over.
Tim never expressed special interest in photography or in it as a hobby. Nor he is a coffee addict more than the other bats, who pull all nighters on the reg. He is actually addicted to energy drinks.
There are 2 main Conner/Kon-El/Superboy I portrayed in fics: Young Justice cartoon one (grumpy, same age as Dick, kind of an asshole, has daddy issues, wears black shirt and jeans, has a space motorcycle and a pet wolf) and 90s comics one (leather jacket, piercings, punny guy, same age as Tim, has a #nohomo relationship with Tim, kind of a himbo).
There are a few Ghost superheroes - Greta Hayes (Secret), she was in Tim's run as Young Justice's leader; and Boston Brand (Deadman), who is a member of Justice League Dark (with Constantine and Zatanna and Swamp Thing!). So the DC heroes are familiar with ghosts and ghost powers.
It's "rogues" gallery, not "rouge". Rouge means "red" in french.
Clark is never abusive to Conner, he just doesn't know what to do with him and chooses to ignore the problem; which, yeah, is mean, but not to the levels that fanon has taken it. And this is in the Young Justice cartoons, not across all depictions. In comics, they consider each other family and that's why Conner took a kryptonian name (Kon-El - of house of El, Kal's family)
The whole "No metas in Gotham" is not true. Batman understands that Gotham is very Fucked Up and that if you add metahumans and heroes with powers trying to do good to the mix it could make things worse. Outsiders don't understand Gotham and if they get jokerized or mind controlled, it will get ugly real quick. That's why Signal is cool beans! Duke is a gothamite through and through.
While is interesting that no one in the Batfam knows about Tim's missing spleen, is very probable that Alfred knows - post about this
Constantine is more powerful than it looks like. A post about interesting abilities.
Damian has a metal spine. Yeah I don't know how it works either. They used it as way for Talia to control Damian for a bit :(

Bring Me Home Arc 2 Part 5
It's Wednesday again, you know what that means! I'm going to officially start calling this Arc 2 instead of Chapter 2 because it's too long already and I only *just* get to the plot with the end of this segment.
Story Summary: Tim and Danny are both neglected by parents who care more about their work than their families. They deal with this by spending too much time online and find each other playing MMORPGs. They keep up their friendship as Tim becomes Robin and Danny becomes Phantom and don't bother keeping secrets from each other.
First, Previous
Word Count 1.3k words
-----
Tim clenched his teeth, but allowed himself to be pulled to the counter where they ordered an obscene amount of food thanks to the appetite of four metas. He insisted on using B’s card to pay for everyone.
Sam didn’t even wait for their food to be ready before she started questioning Conner.
“What do you think of rich people?” she demanded.
“Um… What?” Conner looked to Tim, eyes wide, clearly lost as to what he should answer.
Tim just shrugged.
“What. Do. You. Think of rich people? It’s not a hard question. I’m just trying to gage your actual punkness.”
“I don’t… I mean, Mr. Wayne is cool. I’ve met him a few times and he’s always been nice to me. But Lex Luthor… He’s the worst.” Even now, Conner couldn’t help but shudder when he thought of his creator and Tim scowled into his soda.
“Don’t mince words, Kon,” Tim said. “Luthor should be shot and dropped in the deepest part of the ocean.”
Conner laughed and pointed to Tim. “Yeah, that.”
“Hmmm… It’s a start.” Sam nodded. “Really, there’s only one rule to being punk and everything else derives from that: the man sucks.”
“The man?”
And there it was. Conner was still learning a lot of slang. “She means the people in charge. That you can’t trust the government or people in authority to actually have your best interests at heart or to do the right thing.”
“Oh!” Conner’s eyes lit up in understanding. “Well, obviously! I’ve always had to look after myself. At least until I met you guys.”
Cassie elbowed him. “And now you’re stuck with us for life. You’re ours.”
“Damn right!” Bart held out a fist to Conner who bumped it with his own.
Danny laughed. “You weren’t exaggerating, Secrets. You guys really are ride-or-die.”
Tim looked over his friends and couldn’t hold back a soft smile. “Damn right we are. Just like you three.”
“Well, we know something about the ‘or die,’” said Danny.
Tim rolled his eyes. “You’re worse than Dick.”
Tucker’s mouth was open as he looked between them. “They know?”
“Yeah,” said Danny. “Tim’s known since, like, a week after the accident. And when they came by my house, my parents decided to show off the home defense system. Couldn’t keep it a secret after that.”
Based on Sam’s wince, she knew exactly what the home defense system could do to Danny. Tucker pulled out one of his devices and started typing on it. “Will you finally let me do something about that?”
Danny just rolled his eyes. “I’m fine, Tucker. Sam. Tim. All of you. My parent’s inventions never work right. Or they don’t know how to actually use them. They didn’t think the thermoses worked at first, for God’s sake!”
“Right.” Tucker rolled his eyes. “Because their guns have never worked. Tim, can I have your number and email? Maybe if we all get on him he’ll listen to sense one of these days.”
“Oooh!” Cassie bounced in her seat. “I’ll help! We’ve lots of experience in that with Tim. He’s also the worst at calculating reasonable risks.”
“Great!” Tucker typed her number and email into his PDA and they started setting up group chats. Bart joined in by discussing some of Tim’s more ridiculous civilian escapades.
Tim exchanged a look with Danny. This was so not going to end well.
“Well, while they’re sorting that out, more about punk!” Sam pulled Conner deeper into a conversation about fighting for freedom and liberty and how her ultra recyclo-vegetarianism fit into her beliefs.
Tim sighed and said, “Well, at least they’re getting along?”
Danny groaned and held his head in his hands. “We’re so going to regret introducing them, aren’t we?”
“I already do.”
And then their order was called. Of course Bart was at the counter before any of the rest had even registered it was their order, but Conner and Cassie jumped up to follow and help him carry it.
Sam tried to go help but Tim held out a hand. “They’ve got it, trust me. Having more people will just make it harder for them.”
She still stood, but by the time she turned to help, the others were already returning with hands full of loaded trays. She scowled as she settled back down.
“We would’ve helped,” she said as the others set the food down.
Bart waved her off. “We got it! Sides, most of this is for me, Conner, and Cassie.”
Danny shook his head. “I ordered just as much as you!”
Tucker agreed, “And I ordered almost as much.”
Cassie shrugged as she rooted through bags and grabbed her orders. “Well we got there first. Come on, I’m hungry. Quit arguing and grab your food!”
Danny passed one bag to Sam, “One salad for you.” And a second bag found it’s way in front of Tim. “And a nasty burger for you. You’ll never want to eat a batburger again after this!”
Tim rolled his eyes, but obligingly unwrapped the burger and took a bite. He hummed in appreciation. It really was a solid burger and the sauce was quite good. “I do like it, I’ll give you that. But I still prefer Batburger.”
“Ugh, you’re hopeless!” Turning his back to Tim, Danny addressed the others. “What about you three? Batburger or Nasty Burger?”
Conner shrugged, “This is great, but it’ll always be Batburger for me, too.”
Cassie elbowed him as she finished her bite. “That’s only because you and Tim get midnight burgers there too often and you are mixing up the taste with the memories. These are clearly better.”
Bart had already finished his first burger and was licking his fingers clean. “Yep. These are absolutely better.”
Tim threw an arm around Danny’s shoulders. “Fifty-fifty split! Means we can’t make a decision until you come to Gotham and try one yourself.”
“Oh, that’s what it means, does it? And when do you think I’ll make it to Gotham?”
“Any time you want! You can stay with me. Hell, I’ll even pick you up and bring you there.”
Danny grinned. “If I ever can guarantee a break from ghost attacks, I might take you up on that.”
“Right,” said Sam to Conner. “While they’re flirting”—she expertly ignored Tim and Danny’s spluttered protests—“have you ever tried wearing makeup? I think you’d look killer in eyeliner.”
Meanwhile, Tucker pulled out his PDA and some headphones and started showing a video to Cassie and Bart who shifted to better see the screen.
Tim took a large bite of his burger, unsure what to say to Danny after Sam’s comment.
Danny didn’t seem to have the same reservations and shifted so he could press his shoulder against Tim’s. “Sorry. She and Tuck like to tease me. They’ve been calling you my internet boyfriend for ages.”
That admission made his face heat even more, but Tim tried to shrug it off. “It’s fine.” He knew from Dick that if he continued to protest, everyone would just take it as further confirmation they were right.
Danny shrugged and grabbed another container. Tucker tried to protest, but Danny ignored him. “Here, try a chili cheese fry; they’re great.”
Tim let out a breath and grabbed a fry, getting chili and cheese all over his hands as he did. “Thanks.”
Somehow, the group managed to not get yelled at for an hour as they laughed and joked in the corner booth, but eventually an employee came over to ask if they needed anything else. Danny ordered a milkshake for Jazz, and the group filed out. Night had set in fully while they’d been eating and Tim looked up at the sky. The stars really were much more visible here than in Gotham.
And that was when a large, swirling-green gash opened up in the night sky and dozens of ghosts started pouring through.
-----
Next
Sam is so going to try and radicalize Conner. Tim is just gonna let it happen. At least this radicalization is better than what he'd been exposed to previously.

Gothica Graysons (Title to be determined)
So this story is based off of this post where Danny learns acrobatics from the Graysons. This story is quickly developing into a multi-chap fic, just for the Circus Gothica arc. I don't know where this will go afterwards-i don't know enough about batman-but anyone is willing to take this story and use it for their own story!
The Graysons had been a part of this Circus for a while now. They can't quite remember when they left Haly's circus or why. Something happened. Something....
"Performing death defying stunts without the aid of a net...!"
"Dad!"
They had joined circus Gothica. It was an odd choice, their aesthetic dark and edgy in a way that they didn't really appreciate. It was boring too, the days blending into one another in a way that left them uncertain of how long they had been with the troupe. The other members looked just as bored as them too, their eyes glazed over in the same red haze that plagued their own vision. Not to mention the ringmaster was a total ass. Why they stayed....
you will listen to me minions
Well, it wasn't like they knew where their old troupe was, much less had the time to find them. So even though she and her husband didn't like it, they didn't exactly have anywhere to go.
They did though. There was someone they needed to find....
you'll always be our special little robin...
Mary shook herself as she and her husband got ready for their act. It really was terribly boring here, they didn't even remember changing into their costumes....
That didn't matter. They had an audience to entertain.
"Presenting! Here from beyond the veil to give you a ghoulish performance, the late Flying Graysons!"
That was their cue. Mary plastered a smile onto her face as she and John swung into the arena, flipping over each other in a practiced routine that they knew by heart. The audience beneath roared in excitement as they passed between trapezes, flying over and under each other, dancing through the air effortlessly. It was routine at this point, even if it felt like there was a strange gap in their routine, like there should be someone else...
Mary's eyes caught on a boy.
There wasn't anything special about him. He looked like any other normal teenager. The only thing that made him stand out was that he wasn't dressed like all the others in the audience, his white and red shirt popping out starkly against the sea of black shirts and silver spikes. There wasn't anything noteworthy about him.
But his appearance still made her pause mid-leap, hovering for just a moment in the air in the way only a ghost a true acrobat could, drinking in his raven black hair and ice blue eyes. Eyes that were swiftly clouding over with the same red haze that still tinged her vision. For the first time in a while Mary felt dread pool in her gut in a way that she hadn't felt since she was alive performing their routine with her son for the very first time.
Her son...her son?
"Robin..." she whispered, staring into the red eyes of her boy. Yes, how could she have forgotten? Robin, their son.
***
Sam regretted going to Circus Gothica.
That was never something she would've thought she'd say, but never say never and all that.
"Danny!"
It was just supposed to be a fun outing. A way for her to stick it to her parents, enjoy something she liked for a change, and hang with her friends.
"Danny?!" And it had been at first. Danny and Tucker didn't really get the goth scene, but they were supportive of her interests (when it didn't involve her activism, or her ultra-recyclo-vegetarianism, or anything that would affect them personally, but she was working on it) which was more than could be said about her parents. They were so caught up in maintaining their reputation that they didn't truly care about anything else.
"Danny, where are you?!"
The performance was incredible. The acts had been dark, gloomy, and spoke to her in a way nothing else had. Every person had put on a show that defied human capability-especially the trapeze artists who Sam swore flew through the air like true ghosts could-and even Tucker had been 'oohing' and 'ahing' throughout. It was one of the best experiences she'd ever had, and one she wouldn't soon forget. After the performance she'd finally torn her eyes from the arena and turned to look at her two friends, only to just see Tucker beside her and Danny nowhere in sight.
"C'mon, this isn't funny anymore!"
She'd been angry at first, thinking he'd gotten bored and ditched them (he got so easily distracted), but when they exited the tent and still couldn't find him...that's when they'd started to worry.
When they got home and found their parents angrily waiting for them with no Danny in sight...that's when they started realize that something had gone horribly wrong.
"Danny!"
***
Freakshow had been surprised when the boy had shown up in the tents after the performance. At first, he thought he had been found out by a child too curious for his own good. He'd been about to call for one of his dullard of a minions when he'd noticed the red eyes and assumed that one of them had already overshadowed the fool. When he'd ordered him out of the tent, the boy had turned around to leave. When he'd screamed that he was talking to the ghost, the most amazing, awful thing happened.
The boy became one.
A white ring of ectoplasmic light formed around him and split, transforming the boy into a specter that hovered in front of him, still staring at him with red eyes and the same blank expression that all his minions did.
The boy was a ghost.
This boy had managed to do the one thing he'd always craved, turned himself into one of the beings of the other side. The one thing he'd cried and sobbed about every night as his parents ignored another birthday, holiday, school performance in favor of their research, wishing more than anything that he could be the one thing that they cared more than anything about...
He'd struck him. He'd kicked and punched and screamed, demanding to know how he'd done it. When the answer had come it only made him angrier. Science. The boy's idiotic parents had made a portal to the Infinite Realms through science, the one thing his parents never studied. The one subject he'd struggled in more than anything else, too steeped in the occult and mysticism to ever truly grasp it. The boy was beginning to turn black and blue when a snarl erupted from behind him and the Grayson specters leaped between him and the ghost child, eyes completely red and expressions filled with a rage that broke through the thrall of the Pret Niyantran. Silently, Lydia materialized between him and the two infuriated spirits, her aura thick in the air, intimidating them into submission (or at least not attacking him) until he composed himself. His hands were white around the staff as he exerted his will. The red crystal glowed as it amplified his will, strengthening his mind until the ghosts had no choice but to fall back under his thrall. Immediately the enraged expressions disappeared, their eyes returning to their original shape and their bodies becoming lax, awaiting his commands. He ordered them out of the tent, telling them to take the abomination with them. If his dim-witted minions cared for the child so much, then they could be responsible for him. He couldn't stand to look at the demon who'd achieved his greatest wish for a moment longer. Without a word, all three left, phasing through the cloth walls as if they weren't even there. The stab of envy as he watched the display of power was no stranger to him, but it's sharpness at now knowing there was a way to become one of them that didn't involve his own death...that he was unprepared for. He threw the table when he felt the freezing touch of Lydia against his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. He screamed at her to get out, uncaring about the concerned look she gave him before turning to leave as well. He didn't want to be pitied by the lesser beings under his command. He wouldn't. His hands shook with rage, only steadying whenever they landed on something solid before it was halfway across the tent. The sounds of shattering glass and breaking wood fell on deaf ears as he raged. And if his minions stayed quiet in their tents? Then all the better.
He didn't want to see any filthy ghosts right now.

John watched as his wife cooed over their son, brushing his hair in an attempt to get it to lie flat. He chuckled as each time, the untidy mop would poof up higher and higher, loaded with static charge from being run through with the natural bristle brush so many times. It had been so long since their boy had been with them and she was smothering him in affection in an effort to make up for the lost time. Mary hadn't tried this hard to style their boys hair since his sixth birthday when they had had enough money to take their boy somewhere nice. That had been a very productive season-he was getting off track, lost in nostalgia the same way his wife was. His sons red eyes watched him back, blank in a way that concerned him. The ringmaster didn't like their son. He could see it in the way his eyes narrowed at the boy every time he crossed his sight. The way his teeth grit and his hands tightened on the staff he always carried with him, strangling the wood like he wanted to strangle something else.
John never let him have that opportunity. He still remembered the feeling of something being wrong, wrong, wrong, of rushing towards that feeling only to see the ringmaster standing over their little Robin, hand raised to strike him. The all encompassing fury that had overtaken him in that moment, a snarl he hadn't known he was capable of ripping itself out of his throat as he put himself between their son and the ringmaster. What happened after that was a blur. The next thing he remembered was floating out of the circus and back towards town. His wife and child trailed behind him as they made their way to the jewelry store and began loading the sacks they had been provided with as many valuables as possible. John didn't know why they were stealing these things. A small midwestern town wouldn't have anything of higher quality, so it wasn't like the ringmaster would be getting a significant amount of whatever was stolen here. Most of the precious metals were of low quality, and all the gems were lab grown. Plus, it just felt...wrong. He and Mary were carnies, Romani born and raised. There were more honest ways of swindling peoples money than stealing it from their banks. It was so...petty.
Not that the ringmaster would listen to any of them. Instead, John made sure his son stayed near as they phased through the walls and grabbed everything they could before flying back towards the circus. The police gave a valiant chase, but it was hard to track something that could walk through walls, disappear, and fly. It wasn't long before the wailing of the sirens faded away and the three of them landed in Freakshow's tent. The heavy sacks of ill-gotten goods fell from their lax fingers and smashed into the bare ground, metal clinking against metal and the hissing rattle of gems smaller than a pin shifting in the bags as they settled on the ground. The ringmaster seemed pleased as he scooped up their spoils and ran them through his fingers, though he quickly snarled at the three of them to leave afterwards. John was only too happy to oblige.
He and Mary quickly made their way to the circus arena to begin practicing their routine. It had been so long since all three of them had worked together, and they needed to rehearse as much as possible before their next performance. It's a good thing they decide to do this too, as their son can't seem to remember any of the routine at all. Or any acrobatic skills. What had the boy been doing all this time? He and Mary have to start him on the basics all over again. They share a look as their boy swings clumsily across the arena. So much for doing their normal act. They'd have to bring out their first routine they did when D-when their little Robin was 4, They'd have to account for his bigger size and weight, but the routine was deliberately simple so that even a beginner could do it. John slowly floats up to their sons height and begins giving him pointers, showing him how to hold the trapeze bars so he wouldn't slip, how to angle his body so that his weight swings him across the arena instead of using his muscles and tiring himself out too quickly. His little Robin soaks up the lessons like a sponge, his body quickly remembering the old lessons. Once sure that their boy wouldn't hurt himself, John begins showing him the routine for tonight's performance.
"Danny!" The voice startles the three of them out of practice and they all turn to look down at the ground. A girl with black hair is staring up at them with wide, purple eyes, her face open with shock and horror. She stands, rooted to the ground with open dismay.
"Dude! What are you doing?!" The boy next to her cries, not frozen with emotions like his friend. "Everyone's looking for you! Your parents are worried sick!" John tilted his head in confusion at the boy. How could their sons parents be worried? They were right here; and their boy's name wasn't Danny. It was...it was...It didn't matter. Their son was here now. There was no need to be looking for him now that he was finally back where he belonged.
"My...parents?" Robin croaked-the first words he'd said since that first night- and glanced towards him and his mother with his own confusion and incredulity, obviously not understanding any more than they did.
"Yeah dude! Jazz is worried sick! She's convinced you've been kidnapped!" The dark-skinned boy continues, glaring up at their son as if he was responsible for this family worrying themselves to death.
"Jazz..." Their boy whispers, his eyes gaining awareness, the red color flickering, being replaced by toxic green and icy blue. His face spasming with pain and screwing up as though he's trying to remember something. "Fight it Danny!" The girl screams, finally coming out of her stupor and marching towards the center pole that hold the tent up as if she's going to climb the ladder and drag their son down herself. "Don't let these ghosts brainwash you! We're your friends!" "Ghosts don't have friends," the ringmaster called out. Everyone in the room tensed, turning to look in his direction and he strutted into the arena, Lydia trailing behind him as a silent bodyguard, a quiet threat. "But how interesting it is to see two little vermin sneak in unannounced," he sneered, peering down his nose at them. Both the teens crouched into fighting stances, ready to run at a moments notice. "Well minion? Don't just stand there. Introduce us." The girl locked up in fury, looking ready to tear the ringmaster to shreds. The boy in the red hat wasn't far behind her. Robin stayed silent, his eyes still flickering rapidly between blistering green and blank red.
"Minion? Danny isn't your slave! He's his own person!" The girl shouted, marching forward and getting in the ringmasters face in an effort to intimidate him. Unfortunately her head barely came up to the ringmasters' chest, so it wasn't very effective.
"I don't remember talking to you little girl," the man hissed, his pale, human red eyes glaring down at her hatefully. "I asked you a question you dolt." The ringmasters hand tightened on his staff and the orb on top brightened, the dizzying red color washing every other thought out of John's head. "Answer me," he demanded.
"Don't call Danny that!" The black teenager shouted, leaping forward as if to punch the ringmaster. Unconsciously, John found himself and Mary flying between him and their master, acting as a wall and stopping the boy in his tracks. Both teens watched them warily and didn't try to get closer.
"Their names are Tucker Foley and Sam Manson," Their son responded, staring into the red crystal.
"Manson," the ringmaster repeated, his eyes widened in shock, but quickly narrowed in cunning and delight. His fingers tapped absently on the wood of his staff in contemplation. "As in, daughter of Pamela and Richard Manson? The richest family in Amity Park Manson?" He inquired, his eyes bright as he stared at the young woman with greed. John felt his gut fill with dread again. Behind him, his son went stiff. Sam seemed to catch onto the danger and started backing away. "Now, why leave after you've come all this way? After all, didn't you come to enjoy our hospitality?" The master stepped forward, the rest of the troupe materializing behind him, John stepping in line with them mindlessly.
A white gloved hand gripped both teens shoulders and John looked up to see his son, eyes blazing with green fire glaring straight at them, before all three disappeared from their sight. The ringmaster growled, fingers twisting around his cane in fury.
"Find them!" He screeched. They obeyed.

Personal canons are the canon everyone has created based on the canon and fanon content they've consumed.
Expansion not necessary. I just wanted to add my thoughts.
1. Examples range from wanting to wrap his drinks in a web before drinking them to wanting to fall asleep curled up in the back corner of his closet. No, it doesn't matter which Spider-Man.
2. This one is just my perception of the two. There's nothing I can actually tell you about this other than the vibes seem to match.
3. The headcanon of Poison Ivy eating mostly meat is fun. (Not fully carnivore because I think she'd also eat plants because it's necessary to eat both to be a healthy human and can be healthy for the environment if done in moderation). I decided to combine it with Danny Phantom for this because I haven't seen anyone do it before. So, Ivy being mostly carnivorous and Sam being ultra-recyclo-vegetarian would be appalled at each others diets.
4. Cyborg's connected to a supercomputer created by a more scientifically advanced society, while Barbara is a human (I specified her because she's the best Bat at hacking.) Her being the best hacker in the universe is a stretch at best. There's gotta be computer languages she's unable to decipher because it's so different to any on earth. (I don't think anyone from earth should be able to hack cyborg or the mother/father boxes.) If your supercomputer can be hacked by the equivalent of a preteen with a 2010 samsung who doesn't even recognise the coding language you used, then you didn't create a supercomputer. (Mother/father boxes are sentient, autonomous computers btw.)
5. Young Justice was good. Great. It just seemed to stop caring as much about having the new audience learn about the characters after season 2. I wouldn't know who Razer is if I didn't watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series. I stopped having emotional connections with the characters by season 4 and they stopped wrapping up storylines in an emotionally fulfilling manor after season 2. As someone who never read any comic books except for Spider-man/Deadpool and a few green lantern ones and one batman and spider-man crossover, I don't care about the characters they shove into the show and expect everyone to care about.
6. I get it. The "he won't stop if he does it once" was only in one comic (apparently) and the comic was written by someone that (apparently) most of the fandom doesn't like. I don't care. Every reason he has for not killing is valid and coexists. He collects reasons to not kill like it's gold and he's a dragon. The only reason that is invalid and can't coexist is that he doesn't care enough about the people that could get hurt or killed to permanently stop people like Joker, Bane, or Scarecrow.
7. It makes sense if they were the two to get touch starved easily. Dick grew up in a circus where everyone was presumably pretty tight knit and Tim grew up in a home where appearance mattered more than feelings. But also they happen to be the characters I like to torture.
8. Strange is petty and I 100% believe that Tony started it. (Stephen is finishing it though.)
9. Freddy Freeman can't walk without crutches and flies in the comics. (I haven't read them, tho) I feel like it's erasing disabled peoples' struggles when they just give him the ability to walk in his hero form. Let him be a little flying guy who never touches the ground.
10. It's a comic thing again. I just think it's more interesting. (I found pages of captain marvel comics in google images and tumblr.)

Back when Danny and Jazz were little, Alicia's farm burns down, a forest fire that spread to her farm during the night - she got out okay. Her pride wasn't really as alright.
She moves in with Jack and Maddie, basically becoming nanny to Jazz and Danny. Look, it took her a bit to adjust. Taking care of kids, and her sister and her brother-in-law (Jack). Like, she just doesn't leave but the family is fine with it because it's family.
Breakfast, lunch and family dinners are mandatory. Alicia has shut off the power grid more than once, it's going into the high double digits, sometimes multiple times in the same day. Who let her be in charge of the house? She just took over so the kids had stability with their parents working and so Jack and Maddie didn't have to worry about their kids running wild.
Alicia put up a sturdy fence around the small yard of Fenton Works and turned some of it into a patch of garden to have tomatoes, potatoes and other plants (some on hooks, some in a greenhouse that no one put up a fuss about her having). Danny in particular, back then and to present day, helps his aunt in the garden. Jazz was more of the "wash the veggies" type of kid so that was fine
Gives the kids extra money with a wink ("hey, $20 extra for you to go pick me up some small," Jack/Maddie leaves the room "cheap chocolate, you keep the change.")
the years pass, and Jazz and Danny listen to Alicia moreso than their parents because it's always been that way - they still love and listen to their parents, don't worry, it's mainly when the parents are working
Jazz knows her home situation isn't normal, but loves and appreciates her aunt for the stability she's attempted to give her
Danny loves his aunt, she's the best! She's helped him fix his room over the years to match his interests and recently she gave him space wall-clings for his room (guys, is it manly to hang space themed wall clings on your walls? no? oh well, onto the wall it goes)
Alicia singlehandedly prevents the whole Phantom situation - Danny is given the options: be grounded for (attempting, at the time) taking people down there without hazmat suits and breaching the containment zone for doing that, or take his friends to the movies with some extra cash and curfew being extended 15 minutes (for Jazz too)
they guys all just hang out at the mall instead
Alicia likes Tucker the most out of Danny's friends. She has had many a problem with Sam - from her snide comments about her wearing overalls all the time, to her pitching a fit the first times she ate dinner there because she didn't know Sam was an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian but doesn't ban Danny from hanging out with her because aside from the comments made by a 14 year old being annoying, she's harmless and she'll grow out of it, right? Tucker's parents are at first confused when they meet Alicia ("wasn't she the aunt?" "I'm sure it's nothing too strange.") but they adjust to her and they like her company. Sam's parents HATE her (mutual, honestly)
and then Alicia met Vlad. It's a strange meeting between the two, with them being awkward around each other
but the meetings kept happening, and the Fentons began to see Vlad take an interest in Alicia - maybe he'd truly given up on chasing Maddie?? - and then it started to be reciprocated by Alicia after a bit
So yeah, Alicia/Vlad becomes a long-distance thing for a while with them going to visit each other (Alicia coming back with gifts for the family - Vlad bringing some too when he visits)

I really used to enjoy Danny Phantom as a teen, but looking back on the show - especially knowing what we now know about Butch Hartman - I really can't say that it's aged well for me. It certainly has its good points - the villain cast being one of the biggest - but there's a lot about the show that doesn't quite gel, or worse, is so distinctly Hartman that it's hard not to see his smug, manipulative, conservative Christian face all over it.
One of the things that bugs me the most is how the show will exaggerate things to drive a certain ideological point home. Fairly Oddparents does this too, of course, but it's in a setting where the entire tone is zany and comedic, so it's easier to chalk up to Standard Cartoon Logic with a dusting of Hartman's distorted worldview.
Danny Phantom, on the other hand, tries to balance that same level of exaggerated 'comedy' with a genuine amount of drama and Cool Superhero Stuff, and it makes the placement of those exaggerations stick out like a sore thumb. Like the fact that in the first episode Sam's "ultra-recyclo-vegetarianism" means she eats literal dirt, in an episode where we're clearly being led to see vegetarianism as an unbalanced extremist position held by radical hippies who don't understand what a Balanced Diet(TM) is.
I have a lot of feelings about this episode, but they can be summarized with "Sam did nothing wrong." In fact, the only reason the school's decision to try vegetarian food is a "problem" is because they deliberately paints it as disgusting and inedible as possible, using the excuse of Sam's suspiciously vague (but assuredly extreme) dietary label to imply that She Is Really Just That Unhinged. It's a choice that comes off as ignorant as it is mean-spirited, and I'm not even a vegetarian.
Mostly, though, when it comes to delivering morals, the show sticks to a tried-and-true format: A character does something "wrong", the thing has unintended consequences that they end up having to fix, and by the time everything is set back to order they've learned a valuable lesson in why they shouldn't do that.
This is a formula that works well when the consequences of the character's actions make a modicum of sense, or are at least thematically related to the original slip-up. A classic example of this format in action would be The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which has a wizard's apprentice decide to try using magic to do his chores for him, only to learn the hard way that he doesn't have the needed expertise to actually manage the results of his master's spells.
Fairly Oddparents used this formula a lot as well, and to my recollection, it works for the same reason the shenanigans in The Sorcerer's Apprentice do: Timmy isn't just breaking rules, he's messing with reality-altering magic. Of course the consequences are exaggerated and unrealistic. But Danny Phantom tries to use this same format without the benefit of a conveniently generic supernatural plot enabler, and as such, a lot of the "consequences" feel tacked on if not entirely forced.
One of the most glaring examples is in S1E6, when Tucker's idle wish that he shared Danny's ghost powers unwittingly reaches the ears of a genie*, who then grants him exactly what he wants. He then proceeds to use his new powers to do all kinds of petty bullshit, and eventually the wish gets corrupted - not because of what he actually did, mind, but because Desiree's wish-granting just works that way - he turns into a monster and Danny ends up having to turn him back to normal. At the end, Tucker concludes that he messed up by envying Danny's powers, envy is bad, and he's not going to do that anymore.
*Sort of. She's technically a ghost, but works like a genie.
The thing is... none of this really happened because of envy. Tucker wasn't even acting on his feelings at all - he just happened to idly wish he had ghost powers in front of someone who could grant them to him. There are definitely lessons to be learned here, like how it's healthier to articulate your negative feelings than to stew on them until they bubble up and fester, but the show isn't going for any of that low-hanging fruit. No, only the most banal and straightforward Christian values deserve to get shoehorned into this plot.
But perhaps the most egregious example is the introduction of Dan Phantom, Danny's evil future self who is spawned when Danny... decides to cheat on a test. Yes, you read that right - an ordinary childhood mistake, which Danny was tempted to make due to nigh unbearable pressure to keep good grades despite spending most of his time fighting ghosts, is what causes him to start down the path of becoming the most dangerous villain the setting has faced to date.
To be fair, this wasn't delivered as "cheating on tests will send you down a slippery slope to mayhem and murder". No, the reason any of this happens is even more ridiculous: Cheating on the test causes Danny's family to be in a local restaurant during a catastrophic explosion, and wracked with grief by their death, he convinces fellow ghost halfling Vlad to basically tear out his conscience (which he happens to be able to do) and then he tears out Vlad's ghost half, merges with that, and becomes The Worstest Guy Ever, Just So Bad You Guys.
Danny fights the guy and manages to beat him (as you do), and then, scared straight by this vision of what he's capable of becoming, comes clean about having cheated on the test. If this sounds like a Fairly Oddparents plot... yeah, it is, it was a whole two-parter and everything. But more infuriatingly, this entire plot had nothing to do with the actual incident that supposedly kicked it off.
I mean, there certainly can be negative consequences to cheating on tests. For one thing, you might get caught and get in trouble (although that's arguably less a 'consequence' and more 'another person's choice in how to react'). For another, possibly more compelling reason, taking shortcuts on a test can cause you to rob yourself of valuable information that you could have learned by doing things the hard way, and which you might need for an even more crucial situation down the road. But none of those consequences involve turning into a horrible person, even in a grounded, non-cartoony sense.
And frankly... cheating on a school test is really just not that big of a deal. Standardized tests, especially of the type we started using in the wake of the No Child Left Behind act, are fucking terrible at aiding in providing a good education. Which, may I remind you, is what school is actually supposed to be for - not for rating students on how honest and hardworking they are. But, you know, whatever, Butch.
Anyway, this happens a lot. It would legitimately be faster to list the episodes that don't follow this format, at least early on. Sometimes the formula works better than others, though even when it is relatively tame, the "values" that the show keeps trying to impart often leave a bad taste in my mouth. What kid needs to be taught that if they ever hang out with the "popular" kids, they're betraying their real friends? Or that it doesn't matter what other problems they have in their life, they just need to put down the video games and apply themselves and they'll get amazing grades?
Butch Hartman, fundamentally, is a man who has convinced himself he understands children's problems despite all evidence to the contrary. Danny Phantom reflects that both in the way the show grasps at straws to generate moral crises, and the ways it distorts even real moral challenges into distorted caricatures of themselves. I'm not surprised the fanfic scene seems to be 50% fanon at this point - the version of this show that exists outside my fond teenage memories is just not good.

Alright I think I’ve seen a couple smaller versions of this in bits and pieces so if you have them please share, but I figured that as someone familiar with neither show initially I’m in a good position to do a DPxDC onboarding post!
Since neither source material is particularly helpful in understanding the madness we have created, here is what I consider important to know for each (please add in with anything I miss!)
Danny Phantom (DP)
Main Characters
Danny Fenton - is a Phantom. Died as a teenager by accidentally activating his parents’ portal to the Ghost Zone/Infinite Realms but was also revived, becoming a half ghost half human (halfa)
Is the only superhero in Amity Park, fighting ghosts and sometimes ghost hunters to keep humans safe from ghosts and ghosts safe from humans
Has beaten the Ghost King in single combat, and is therefore sometimes considered to be the new Ghost King
Jazz (Jasmine) Fenton - Danny’s older sister, basically his parent, very into psychology and very against the influence their actual parents have had on Danny due to their obsession with ghosts
May/may not know about Phantom, usually considered the Mom Friend of Team Phantom whether she knows or not
Jack Fenton - Danny’s dad, 6’9 koolaid man, loves ham and fudge and breaking through walls instead of the door beside him. A very bad shot but extremely enthusiastic in that 90s dad cartoon way
Prone to believe absolutely anybody but Danny is a ghost, especially when Danny does ghost things in proximity
Extremely intent on the destruction of all ghosts, convinced they do not have actual feelings and should be destroyed pre Phantom reveal. Afterwards, can be either accepting or homicidal towards Danny
Maddie Fenton - Danny’s mom, ridiculous kung fu warrior and engineer, madly in love with Jack and they are sickeningly cute all times except Christmas
Sometimes notices they have kids that need caring for, sometimes curbs Jack’s wilder impulses, she’s the brains of the team
Same ghost views as Jack, but she’s more perceptive and intelligent, which can be used for good or evil
Tucker Foley - Danny’s best friend, likes meat and technology and arguing with Sam
A Black young man with a signature red beret and PDA in the OG show, usually acknowledged to be on par with the bats’ technical skills as he’s an incredible hacker
Danny’s Guy In The Chair, but he will get out of his chair and throw down as needed
Sam Manson - Danny’s Obligatory 90s Cartoon Love Interest, goth and ultra-recyclo-vegetarian child of millionaires who will not be stopped in her crusade for justice
She’s the one who dared Danny to go into the portal that killed him, the guilt she carries for this varies
She is in combat as much as her humanity allows, but also in a support role most of the time
Dash Baxter - Danny’s Obligatory 90s Cartoon Bully, the usual blond beefy jock. Can be surprisingly sensitive and intelligent, probably from being tutored by Jazz
[ETA] Valerie Gray - former antihero with a grudge against ghosts (her dad lost his job because of Cujo), she was given an anti ghost suit by Vlad and worked for him to fight ghosts until learning he is a half ghost
Canon never names her alter ego but we call her Red Huntress, she’s hot headed and impulsive and absolutely dated Danny while trying to murder Phantom - Danny knew the whole time but she did not
She is also Black
Wes Weston - Does Not Exist In Canon. We made him up because Danny had a bracelet that was supposed to say Sam but was shown backwards all episodes so it just says Wes
Knows that Danny is Phantom, INTENT on telling absolutely everyone, and is never believed
Vlad Masters/Plasmius - the only older halfa in the show, and one of Danny’s main villains. A billionaire who went to college with the Fenton parents and was slowly killed after exposure to the first trial portal
Blames Jack for his exposure and is obsessed with stealing Maddie from him and marrying her himself as he believes should have always happened
Her opinion does not factor into this, and she largely treats him with disdain but tempered for her husband, who adores Vlad unequivocally
Dani/Ellie Masters - a girl clone of Danny made by Vlad, the only clone who survived melting into goo. Vlad raised her to try and kill Danny so he could perfect a different boy clone, and kept her isolated
Now that she’s met Danny and been stabilised by him, they are siblings/cousins/besties but she can’t stay in one place, because she wants to experience the whole world
Frostbite - King of the Far Frozen, which is part of the Ghost Zone full of ice. He’s a yeti, and has the zone’s only functional medical facility
Reveres Danny as the Great One, Saviour of the Ghost Zone, and taught him how to use his ice powers
Clockwork - Master of Time, tends to show up in a purple hooded robe with a clock around his neck and rapidly cycle through ages and speak in riddles
Sometimes communicates by leaving green stick notes on things, but never with a direct answer. Considered Danny’s mentor and sends Danny on adventures through time to preserve the time stream
Notably involved in the whole Dan Phantom fiasco
Dan Phantom - an older version of Danny from the future where Danny’s ghost half was removed from his human half, stole Vlad’s ghost half, and destroyed the world because Danny’s whole family and friends were killed in front of him
They were all together to be killed as part of an intervention when Danny was caught cheating on a test. This gives Danny understandable issues about how easily he could go bad and destroy the world
Skulker - an early recurring baddie who is a Kraven the Hunter knockoff, considers himself the Ghost Zone’s best hunter and wants Danny’s pelt for his wall
Actually a tiny little guy inside the helmet of a big mechanised suit, rarely a serious threat
Ember - a young ghost musician who can hypnotise people with her music, craves an audience and another early recurring villain
Dates Skulker I guess
Johnny 13 and Shadow - ghost biker boy and his sentient shadow familiar, dated Danny at some point, but in a permanent ongoing relationship with Kitty
They usually only cause trouble when they fight, break up, wreak havoc, and then eventually get back together
Kitty - once Overshadowed Paulina the generic Pretty Girl to date Danny to get back at Johnny for their break up
She wanted to be a lawyer before she and Johnny were killed in a wreck, sometimes implied to have been caused on purpose by her father
She and Johnny are often Danny’s allies, against other ghosts if necessary
[ETA] Cujo - ghost puppy, very playful and usually about beagle size, but he can grow or shrink at will into a terrifying house sized attack dog. He can make portals so no, you are never safe from Cujo
[ETA] Wulf - werewolf ghost and friend of Danny’s who can also create his own natural portals. He wears pants
Important Terms
Core - a small glowing orb that houses all a ghost’s memories, thoughts, emotions, and vital organs. Can correspond to an element, granting elemental powers after some intense ghost puberty
Requires ectoplasm to form and be maintained but does not exist in canon
Obsession - ghosts are powered by their emotions at death and an Obsession, usually what makes them become a ghost instead of passing on in the first place - does not exist in canon
Danny’s Obsession is usually Protection, Space, or both
Vlad’s Obsession is Maddie, and acquiring Danny as a son once he learns Danny is a halfa too
Dani’s Obsession is Travel
Halfa - half a ghost, half a human, with the ability to transform between human and ghost forms (usually characterised as a colour inversion of hair and clothes)
Powers are basically Everything That Would Be Funny, because it’s a Saturday morning cartoon
Vlad’s specifically include electrocution, duplicating up to thousands of himself, invisibility, intangibility, hand lasers, super strength, healing, and mind control
Danny’s include ice, strength, bendy noodle body, put self in video game, hand lasers, heat vision, ghostly wail (big ol sonic scream, bad for the throat), duplication, teleportation, and literally anything else that was fun for the episode in question
All ghosts seem to get invisibility, intangibility, flight, telekinesis, and ectobeams (lasers from various body parts)
Overshadowing - similar to possession, when a ghost takes over someone else’s body, gaining access to core memories if they look
Sometimes different from possession specifically and considered less invasive, but still invasive. Danny does not like doing this
[ETA] Anti Ecto Acts - a series of laws signed into existence to declare all ectoplasmic entities as nonsentient creatures, able to be experimented on or destroyed at will
Referenced literally once in canon in a single line that basically says “you are under arrest for being a ghost” - after Danny is outed as a halfa, we have obviously extrapolated it into the worst thing possible
Canon calls them Anti-Ecto Control Acts
[ETA] GIW - Guys in White or the Ghost Investigation Ward, they’re literally a colour reversed Men in Black joke to have a government agency that focuses on ghosts
They don’t care about collateral damage and will blow anyone up on their way ghost hunting
DC (Disregard Canon apparently)
Main Characters
Listen I’m not doing all of them so HOEDOWN STYLE I GUESS
Alfred Pennyworth - best Batman character, super butler, makes the best cookies
Bruce Wayne - Batman, may/may not be good batdad
Dick Grayson - Robin 1, responsible for pantsless Robin and excessive flips, grows up to be Nightwing
Jason Todd - fandom woobie, Robin 2, tried to steal the tires off the Batmobile and hit Bruce with a tire iron, killed by Joker, came back evil and thicc as Red Hood and nearly killed Robin 3
Has the Bad Juice in him cuz of being brought back from the dead so he has Pit Rage, which most people apparently only get for a little bit and then either die or go permanently insane
Tim Drake - Robin 3, abandoned rich kid who blackmailed Bruce into letting him be Robin after Jason died, because Jason was his hero and Tim thinks Batman needs a Robin to stay sane. He’s right, but was Robin-fired basically as soon as Damian showed up, is Red Robin now
Never sleeps, overcaffeinated at all times, a better detective than Bruce and a supervillain in basically every AU
Used to be bi but is legally gay now apparently
Stephanie Brown - girl Robin, far superior as Spoiler and Bat Girl, sassy bitch who tells Bruce to fuck off the most of all the Robins ever and this is an Achievement she must fight for constantly but always wins
Cassandra Cain - assassin baby of Lady Shiva, not taught to talk by her dad cuz he sucks, semi- or nonverbal and deadass supernaturally good at reading people
Decided that killing was bad actually the first time she did it so fuck assassins she’s Black Bat/Batgirl/Orphan now and she does not have mouth holes in her mask (possibly because she is not white, depending on why you think Batman always has his)
Damian Wayne - Consequences from Bruce’s playboy slut days, he knocked up supervillain Talia Al Ghul and thus this bab was raised by assassins and thinks stabbing siblings is an acceptable greeting
Likes the animals and is secretly soft but will fucking kill you before he admits it
Duke Thomas - Criminally Underused, older than Damian but babiest bat as the Signal, Gotham’s only daytime hero and only meta hero. Second Black hero cuz Lucius Fox exists and so does his son
Never a Bruce-appointed Robin but was trained by 4 previous Robins (no idea where Steph was for this) simultaneously, swears as much as Jason but has living parents sometimes so that’s wild
Kate Kane - Batwoman, definitely fucks
Luke Fox - I think he is Lucius’ son, Lucius made all the bat tech but Luke is going to punch bad guys directly, has a hero name probably that might be fox related
Diana Prince - Wonder Woman, an Amazonian warrior who fucks with Cronos I guess
Donna Troy - I have never fucking seen her in dpxdc but she is Wonder Girl I think and she also fucks
Clark Kent - Superman but also a nerd, treats his clone badly and will never be forgiven
Connor Kent/Kon El - said clone, made by Lex Luthor from Superman’s and Luthor’s DNA because what says hate like making a baby! Mistreating that baby and reminding him he’s meant to be a weapon
Deserves all the love and sometimes his powers don’t work because cloning is hard
Jon Kent - Superman’s son with Lois Lane, got all his dad’s powers but apparently not his mom’s cuz he is still a himbo
Lois Lane - the world’s scariest reporter who will make all corrupt officials quail because you can’t fucking threaten her, she will tell you to go fuck yourself and if you try and shoot her Superman catches the bullet
Barry Allen - the Flash, does not believe in ghosts even though he can run so fast he travels in time so he’s clearly the arbiter of what makes sense
But I guess you can’t catch him to tell him he’s wrong so
Hal Jordan - Green Lantern, Space Ho
Lex Luthor - surprising dad energy for a bald supervillain who hates aliens (blame halfagone)
John Constantine - super thot and mage, will sell his soul to anyone who offers to gain immortality because no one can decide who gets to keep his soul so they just spite reviving him
Has the actual worst luck and finds out just slightly more than he fucks around but he hasn’t died yet so it’s working
Zatanna - magic lady who does spells by saying words backwards, the competent adult
Boston - Deadman, an Actual Fucking Ghost Member Of The Justice League, What The Fuck Flash This Is Workplace Harassment
Cannot be seen or heard without magical assistance, so way less of a problem than Danny Phantom ghosts

Sam wanting everyone to live freely and be accepted for who they are.
Also Sam forces everyone to become ultra recyclo vegetarian, judges people for caring about their looks,makes fun of rich kids while also being a rich kid.
Believes everyone should make their own choices until it's choice she doesn't like
When the Graphic novel comes out and if the series gets revived I desperately need Sam to be freed from early 2000s I'm not like the other girls contradictory writing.

Welcome to Intro to Ghosts
Title: Welcome to Intro to Ghosts
Words: 2606
Chapter 1 of ?
Summary: Sure, turning sixteen was supposed to be a big year regardless, but this was a little beyond what Danny had expected when he'd both been told he was now king and then asked to be a teacher for the Intro to Ghosts class while also being a junior in high school. Now he has to juggle a secret identity, being a superhero, doing centuries worth of old paperwork Pariah didn't do, his own schoolwork, AND his students/classmates schoolwork! This'll be fun. Or catastrophic. Hopefully fun.
AO3
Danny was immensely grateful for ghost powers as he triggered his intangibility, letting the spit and drink mixture fall from him, after a cursory glance around to ensure no one was studying them too much at the table they had claimed outside the Nasty Burger. Tucker, the one who assaulted Danny with the gross mixture, was still laughing so hard that he held a hand to his chest, Tucker’s amusement currently greater than his need to breathe.
“You cannot be serious.” Sam said, ultra-recyclo vegetarian compliant burger halfway to her mouth.
“Okay, it isn’t that outrageous, guys!” Danny whined, balling up a napkin and throwing it at Tucker’s face. Hm, turns out fighting for your life on a weekly basis gave you pretty good aim!
“That… that was a good one, dude,” Tucker finally said, wiping tears off his face.
“I’m serious!” Danny grumbled, crossing his arms across his chest, a playful grin on his face showing he wasn’t truly upset.
“Danny. Do you really expect us to believe Ishiyama and Lancer offered you a job?” Sam said, finally remembering her food as she took a bite.
“Technically, they wanted me twice.” Danny informed, smirking.
“Excuse me?” The other two said simultaneously.
“They told me they originally wanted Phantom to do it but, as they said, ‘due to the hazard to his life posed by ghost hunters, it would be unwise to have Phantom at the school at set hours everyday.’ So they settled on me, good ole Danny Fenton. All the knowledge of the Fentons, none of the ghost hunting propensity.”
“That and no one knows how to find the elusive, mysterious Phantom long enough to offer him the job in the first place, I’m sure.” Sam said with an eye roll.
“Is this irony? This feels like an example of irony.” Tucker added.
“Do I look like Lancer, dude? Leave the literary device analysis or whatever to him.”
“Well, you don’t look like Lancer. But apparently you do look like a teacher.” Tucker retorted.
Danny laughed. “I still can’t believe it. Apparently, the school board thinks an Intro to Ghosts class is exactly the newest elective to offer when school starts back next month.”
“Not gonna lie to ya, bro, when you told us you’d gotten called in by those two, I thought they’d finally realized how many detentions you’d never actually served.”
“So, are you gonna do it?” Sam asked.
“The options are me, my parents, or the Guys in White.” Danny replied.
“So are you going to be by going by Danny, Mr. Fenton, or King Phantom? And do we have to call you that?” Tucker asked, a fake thoughtful look on his face as he propped his chin in his hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next few weeks passed by in a hurried marathon for Danny as preparations were made, for both of his newly found duties. Sometimes he questioned if becoming a teacher was really a good idea - especially since he was the same age as his peers but doubly especially since he had now spent the last month of summer break doing teacher homework. Being a teacher had at least been voluntary, unlike the whole King thing!
But whenever he questioned if he’d made the right choice, his parents would make another tool to murder him with or the GIW would cause millions of dollars in property damage chasing a blob ghost, and he’d known the other options were, uh, not good to the point of being non viable.
Not that that had been the only training involving far too much paperwork he’d had to deal with this summer. Admittedly, the whole teacher thing made sense to have paperwork. But why did being the King of All Ghosts require so much paperwork? At least he hadn’t had to learn a new language, though. All paperwork was filled out in ghost speak - a language called Exspirate, which was fairly similar to Esperanto. Exspirate is a language that ghosts just know upon formation, both how to read and write. But Danny had had the joy of learning that different dialects were also a thing depending on where in the Zone the ghost formed and they were not always exactly the same!
So, yeah, between preparing the syllabus and material for his class and getting several centuries worth of paperwork caught up, Danny never wanted to read anything ever again.
It hadn’t been all bad, at least. His recent coronation had given him some authority over the other ghosts, who either respected him for his abilities or feared him for his power. He’d have to work on the whole ‘fearing him’ thing but regardless, both forms kept most ghosts off his turf. Invading another ghost’s haunt was a bad enough idea, but invading the haunt of the King and risking that which his Obsession demanded him to protect? That was a good way to find out what lay beyond the Veil.
Danny fidgeted with his backpack as he glanced at the clock again. Today was the day - first day of class. Lancer had decided to omit Danny’s name from the schedule listings that were being handed out today - leaving it with a simple TBA. Danny was quite grateful Lancer had thought of that - Danny’s Intro to Ghosts class was only offered during the last period of the day and Danny was anxious enough without having to field questions from his peers for the beginning of the day.
He’d been asked to show up early, to meet with Ishiyama and Lancer, and only them, before the day began. Apparently, even the other teachers hadn’t been informed of Danny’s new position. Danny had originally thought this was also to help protect him before the class started, but the glances Ishiyama and Lancer had given each other had given him reason to doubt. Were they… pulling a prank? Weird, teachers were people too. Wait, Danny was a teacher now! Of course teachers were people, he was a people! …mostly.
Drawing a large breath, Danny finally pushed open the front doors of the school, making his way towards the principal’s office. Despite being a junior now and having gone through these doors for two years at this point, something about crossing the threshold today felt different. He arrived at the office, where the door was open and he could hear the two’s voices in the room.
“Uh, hi?” Danny said, knocking on the door and peeking his head in.
“Glad to see your streak for being on time has continued since the end of last year, Daniel.” Lancer said, a friendly smile on his face.
Danny flushed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Heh, yeah.”
“Are you ready for today, Danny?” Ishiyama asked from her place behind her desk, fingers steepled together as she studied him.
The halfa nodded. “Yeah. Kinda nervous, though.”
“That’s perfectly normal,” Mr. Lancer reassured him. “And I will be right next door to you if you need me, alright?”
“I know the situation may not be normal, but being nervous on the first day of anything is very normal.” Ishiyama agreed.
“Here’s your class schedule for the year and the class roster.” Lancer said, handing two pieces of paper over to Danny. Danny scanned over both pages quickly. Pretty standard schedule - all the basics like math, science, English, and history were there. The only unusual thing about his schedule was the ‘free period’ directly before his last class of the day - Intro to Ghosts, administered by TBA. Danny wasn’t even going to ask how his credits worked like this - the Ghost class was still counting as one of his elective credits, despite him being the teacher of it. The free period was what the teachers called a planning period, he’d learned. Yet more time for more paperwork and grading.
“Is all your material ready?” Lancer asked.
Pulling his backpack from his shoulders and sitting it in an empty seat, Danny nodded, unzipping the light purple backpack that somehow had survived two years of ghost hunting and looked fine to survive two more. He pulled a binder out, handing it over to Lancer for review. Since there wasn’t exactly any textbooks on ghosts that weren’t either written by total quacks or required high level understandings of physics, cellular biology, chemistry, and theoretical plasma, Danny had had to make his own.
“It gives a pretty good look over of various things without going in to deeply to any one topic,” Danny began as Lancer flicked open the binder. “There’s sections on ghost culture and law, ghost psychology, the uses and behaviors of various types of ectoplasm, and history. History is the longest section. And I’ve cited my sources!” Danny was actually quite proud of how much work he’d done, interviewing various friendly and sometimes-friendly-sometimes-murderous ghosts to get as much information as possible, including consulting Ancients like Clockwork and Pandora. Besides, he’d already been learning law, culture, and history while he’d been preparing to be king, so he’d already had a head start. “Oh, did you hear back about bringing in guest speakers?”
Lancer’s eyes were still scanning through the binder when he replied. “The board has approved it, if the permission slips we send home today get signed. And your parents were fine with these expeditions into the Ghost Zone for you to get these…sources?”
“Absolutely, they know they’ve taught me enough to defend myself!” Danny lied enthusiastically. His parents didn’t even know he had this job, much less gone into the Zone. “And I’ll make sure the slips go out today,” he added, finally looking through the roster. The course was only available to juniors and seniors and had a twenty person cap, so he recognized most of the names. Sam and Tucker were there, of course, though all three had been warned to make sure they behaved and the other two would be removed from the course if they became a distraction. Valerie was there, too. Danny made a mental note to avoid mentioning anything that could be exploited as a weakness. Dash, Paulina, Starr. No Kwan, surprisingly. Mikey and four other juniors. Six seniors that sounded familiar to Danny, but he couldn’t place a face to the names.
“This looks good, Mr. Fenton.” Lancer said, flicking through the last few pages in the binder.
“Thanks! Jazz proofread it already, so the grammar and spelling and stuff is fine.”
Lancer nodded. “We’ll get copies made in time for your class this afternoon. In the meantime, class will be starting soon.”
A glance at the clock confirmed Lancer’s statement. Despite being here over an hour early, it was now only five minutes before the first bell. “So we’re really doing this, huh?”
“Yes, Danny. Your first day as a teacher begins today. Gives a new meaning to the term student teacher, right? Huh? Huh?” Ishiyama said, poking her elbow into Lancer’s side.
Yeah, seeing his teachers be human was really, really weird.
Danny grinned, slinging his backpack over his shoulder, heading out the door.
As soon as he was out of sight of the principal’s office, he pulled his phone from his pocket. Sure, it was still technically before school and he was a teacher now too, but the instinct to conceal his phone from Lancer was too deeply ingrained at this point. Unlocking the phone, he clicked on a calculator app. Technically, it did have the functions of a calculator. Though that wasn’t what he used it for, keying in a long string of numbers. Sure, maybe it was overkill to have all three of their birthdays be his code, but he took the whole secret identity thing seriously! …even if maybe he should never have introduced himself as Danny Phantom.
He clicked the percent twice in quick succession once he finished the string of numbers and the calculator face moved away, showing the chat conversations he had going.
One conversation had a new message - non urgent so as to not actually send notifications to their phones - and Danny brought it up. It was the one he’d been going for anyway.
A profile picture of a poorly drawn, cartoon-y green blob ghost took up the screen, the words PhanPhuckingTastic loading… running across the bottom.
PhanPhuckingTastic loaded.
Missed messages -
EatVeggiesNotFaces: I swear to Clockwork I am going to strangle Dash if he does not shut up.
TooFineTechie: kick his ass babe
EatVeggiesNotFaces: Not your babe.
Danny snorted as he read the messages,
TotallyNormalKid has rejoined the chat.
TotallyNormalKid: sup
EatVeggiesNotFaces typing…
TooFineTechie typing…
EatVeggiesNotFaces: Did you get fired yet?
TooFineTechie: i dont have the homework
TotallyNormalKid: you guys aren’t funny, you know that right?
TooFineTechie: ding dong ur wrong
EatVeggiesNotFaces: We’re hilarious.
TotallyNormalKid: be nice, I can fail you!
EatVeggiesNotFaces: And we can ‘forget’ and ‘accidentally’ leave you in the Thermos for three hours next time Jazz catches you.
TotallyNormalKid: that’s blackmail
TotallyNormalKid: you both get A’s!
TooFineTechie: boo-yah!
TooFineTechie: anyway wat schedules u 2 got?
TooFineTechie: Photo Attachment
Danny and Sam both sent the pictures of their schedules as well. Of course, they all had Intro to Ghosts together. All three were together in English and history, but those were the only two all three shared. Sam and Tucker had taken different electives - Danny’s second elective was technically his planning period - and Sam was in a higher level math class than them. Danny and Tucker had math at the same time but with different teachers. Third period English they all had together, but the first two classes of the day, all three were separate.
At least all of them had lockers together - not directly beside each other, but only a few apart.
TooFineTechie: well thats some bullshit
TooFine Techie: lmao danno good luck not failing math
TooFineTechie: cant copy of me or Sam!
TotallyNormalKid: rude
TotallyNormalKid: I don’t need your notes!
TotallyNormalKid: King, fam.
TotallyNormalKid: no ghost attacks
TotallyNormalKid: so no skipped classes!!
TotallyNormalKid: hoe
TooFineTechie: u love me tho
EatVeggiesNotFaces: Behave, children.
EatVeggiesNotFaces: Tucker, stop antagonizing the superhero/teacher.
EatVeggiesNotFaces: Danny, stop being a little bitch.
Danny laughed as he finally arrived at his first class, sliding into a seat towards the back, as close to the door as possible. This was a room he’d never been in before, so he immediately started scanning the room for points of entry and hiding spots. Ghosts could phase, sure, but for some inexplicable reason, most of his rogues still preferred to come in through windows and doors intangibly. And, sure, he should be safe from attacks now, but old habits died hard, especially ones caused by recurrent threats to life and limb (even if he wasn’t exactly alive and could reattach limbs.) He closed out the app, sliding his phone into the external pocket of his backpack, where it bumped against the Thermos he kept inside.
Jazz called him paranoid. Danny said he was just being realistic.
Though, she may have a point he mused as he pulled paper and pencil from his bag. The ghost attacks had rapidly dropped once Pariah fell through the Veil, too Faded from defeat and sleep to maintain his form any longer. Apparently, Danny being the next King was just common knowledge in the Realms and no one bothered to mention it to him. No one had anticipated Pariah would Fade, he’d survived centuries in there already. The last three months of the previous school year, Danny’s attendance and grades had rapidly improved. And that was while he had just been Prince, before he’d accepted the power of Crown and Ring.
Maybe he could stop being always wary, always on edge. About ghosts, anyway. Humans still scared him.
I have a question... and it's about Sam Manson from DP.
How come she's the physically fit among the three and a vegan/vegetarian? Like does she not experience vitamin deficiency at all?
Sorry, it just... I watched an episode from the Simpsons, where Lisa is prescribed supplements due to her iron deficiency and discovered bug diet. And then I remembered Sam from DP, who is an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian (literal MUD pies and grass on the bread).
So unless Sam has supplement prescriptions, how is she healthy?
Danny Phantom Episode Breakdown
Part 1
Fucked Up Facts In Bold
1 MYSTERY MEAT
Danny states he wants to be an astronaut
Sam thinks ghosts are mainstream like cellphones (this show aired in 2004 cellphones we’re common but not every teen had one but Sam is rich so unsure if she’s just playing being disinterested to throw Jack off or she’s genuine)
First appearance of Danny’s ghost sense
Ectopusses first appearance
Jack is an expert in ghosts but has never seen one
Fenton thermos first appearance
Jack was born in a log cabin in the woods doesn’t remember where but as a child wanted a pony but had to eat horse meat during the war and had a problem with it (show aired in 2004 he was in college during the 80s so which war)
His parents invent the Fenton Finder and when outed by it almost comes out
The one-time Jazz drives Danny to school Jack immediately thinks she’s a ghost
“Why can’t they accept me for who I am?!” first hint of Sam’s issues with her parents
It’s been only a month since his accident he still can’t control his powers and thinks he should tell his parents
He already wants to be normal and Sam gives him the unique is good speech
Sam’s an ultra recyclo vegetarian Danny explains she doesn’t eat anything with a face on it (does this mean she’s just a vegan)
Tucker has a heighted sense of smell when it comes to meat can tell what someone ate for dinner the night before
Sam’s wore down the school to make a new lunch menu to entirely conform to her particular diet (which is grass on a slice of bread)
Lunch Lady first appearance she was summoned because the menu was changed
Jack built a new weapon to use on his daughter who he believes is a ghost with no proof and only Maddie is concerned he is wrong and could hurt her Jack says it can’t unless it gets into hair which it does and painfully rips all the hair off his head
Lancer first appearance
Tucker can sense the totally not real all steak buffet in the teacher’s lounge
Dash first appearance and he’s angry his order of mud pies has mud blaming Sam calling her Danny’s girlfriend which they both deny
Dash acknowledges these are his best years and after high school his life will suck
Sam says the mud is actually topsoil (I think parents will have a problem with the school feeding their children dirt)
Lunch Lady looks like Tucker’s grandmother
Lunch Lady is angry the menu was changed after fifty years (so was she this school’s lunch lady did she make the menu has she been dead for at most fifty years)
First appearance of “going ghost” catchphrase and on-screen transformation
First appearance of ghost tail
If superheroing doesn’t work out he can have an exciting career as bus boy
Danny depowers on accident
Tucker was repeatedly in trouble for loitering by the girl’s locker room
After 34 broken beakers Danny’s been banned from handling fragile school property
Lancer is biased against students willing to exempt Dash from punishment because he’s a star football player
Tucker’s meat sense is strong enough to scent out where the meat is in the school
The school keeps boxes of meat in the basement with no refrigeration
Danny has ghost powers but Tucker is the weird one
Tucker just carries around a fork and knife (those better be plastic because real ones would get you into major trouble at school)
First appearance of Danny able to stretch himself
After his first fight Danny passes out from exhaustion and depowers
As soon as Jazz walks through the door her parents throw a smoke grenade and attack her
Danny sleeps as his friends carry him all the way home
Maddie tells Jack Danny isn’t a ghost Jack doesn’t think he is but is still suspicious of Jazz and she tries to get the modified vacuum cleaner to let go of her hair
Tucker freaks Danny out saying he was unconscious for days when it was only a few hours
Tucker and Sam then leave having an argument on whose fault it was and about changing the menu
Overnight Tucker arranged a meat fair/protest at the school and Sam a vegetarian protest and demand Danny take a side
Sam says ultra recyclo vegetarians don’t have to waste time cooking their food (so ya’ll just eat raw veggies)
The Lunch Lady attacks first appearance of Star and the two hug Danny so he can transform
Jazz is attacked by her parents after she just told Spike if he opens up to his parents they won’t attack him (can we have Spike be Jazz’s only friend at school can we make him into his own character like we did Wes)
Danny flew through a plane twice but he was invisible/intangible what were those people reacting to before Danny shouted thanks and stole that man’s water (it was in a glass didn’t planes already switch to bottles in 2004)
Jazz got her father to have a change of heart and Jack even stated he was turning his back on ghosts
First appearance of Danny using his foot as a scythe
Danny depowers
Jack says ghosts don’t exist throwing the thermos at Danny
Those little meat gremlins threw Danny to the ground from that height they fully expected to kill him a human child
Danny manages to transform and save himself and him saying thanks for the thermos was enough for Jack to feel vindicated ghosts are real and gloats in Jazz’s face
Danny uses his ghost powers to operate the thermos (he changes human again off screen between that and capping the thermos)
Danny decides not to tell his parents having decided fighting ghosts is what his powers are for
Lancer blames this all on the trio and has them clean the school grounds until nightfall
Danny being petty with his powers and crushing Dash under an avalanche of garbage dumpster meat
2 PARENTAL BONDING
First appearance of the Fenton Ghost Fisher
There is a Fenton urinal
Danny reels in Dorathea’s dragon form/first appearance of Dorathea
Dorathea loses her cursed amulet as if falls into Danny’s bag changing her back to normal and she goes back into the ghost zone crying that her horrid mummy won’t let her go to the prince’s costume ball
First appearance of Paulina and she’s so hot boys can’t take their eyes off of her to the point of tripping over themselves
Sam says girls like her are a dime a dozen Tucker and Danny immediately start counting their pocket change
Sam says you can’t judge a book by it’s cover (this will be the theme of the episode won’t it)
Sam takes offense when Danny says he gets weak kneed when he talks to girls implying she’s not cute
Sam pushes Danny to go shoot his shot but his uncontrolled powers cause his pants to fall down in front of Paulina
“a gentleman usually tips his hat but I’ll give you points for originality” (I can’t tell if she was making fun of him or trying to lighten his embarrassment)
Sam calls Paulina shallow which she takes offense to and as revenge will lure Danny away from her (she calls Sam a goth geek but to me she seems more like a poser)
Dash pushes Danny into a locker to introduce himself to Paulina (does this mean they didn’t know each other before this)
 Danny is petty with his powers again overshadowing Dash/first appearance of overshadowing and gets Dash to say embarrassing gross stuff (note eyes turn green when overshadowed by Danny)
“Why do I suddenly feel like scrubbing my mom’s feet?” (so does this imply when overshadowed it can have aftereffects of the influence is it permanent how long does it last)
Paulina finds the amulet and thinks it’s beautiful (it’s not) and Danny lies that he got it for her in case she said yes to go to the dance with him
He manages to stop his pants from falling down this time
Paulina says he’s cute and has great taste in underwear (I don’t know if she’s genuine or this is her manipulation ploy)
Paulina puts on the amulet and immediately becomes influenced by it
Since Paulina is interested he forgets about getting the amulet back to his mom or sister who he believes could own it then his pants fall down
Lancer sees his pants fell down again saying it’s the third time that week calling it “dropping trow”/first appearance of him using dated slang and he wants to meet with Danny’s father to talk about it in the meantime gives Danny a belt to stay “outta trouble with the man”
Jack is so frustrated with his fishing he’ll take out his rage on the first person that gives him bad news so Danny doesn’t tell him about the conference
Danny overshadows his father for the conference about the incidents with Danny's pants
Jack/Danny lies that Danny studies so hard he forgets to eat Lancer says that explains things
Jack/Danny flatters Lancer that’s he’s Danny’s favorite teacher and the Fenton's consider teachers underpaid and underappreciated (well he’s not wrong)
Lancer is impressed and has Jack chaperone Friday’s dance “catch you later G”
When finding out Danny can control people and they don’t remember Tucker wants him to overshadow a girl for about two minutes but Danny refuses telling him he can get his own date like he did
Sam asks if he has to take off his pants and act like a dweeb for it
A discontinued fleecy tee is so trendy the sales lady tells Paulina without one she’ll have to languish as a toxic social outcast for five to sixteen weeks
This enrages Paulina so much she turns into a dragon and burns the display table
Sam says she’s glad she’s not going to the dance saves her from wearing the lame dress her parents bought her (by her tone you can tell she wanted to go)
Tucker can tell no one’s asked her and Sam is bitter that if she was as pretty as Paulina Danny says being pretty isn’t a crime Sam tells him looks are deceiving (this will play into the theme of the episode)
Paulina’s dragon form is knocked out causing the amulet to fall into a lady’s sales bag she transforms back having no memory of the fight she puts the amulet back on and thinks the tee in the bag is hers saying good things happen when you maintain a positive attitude
First appearance of Valerie she states she won’t go out with Tucker unless something happens that makes her dateless Kwan then appears/first appearance of Kwan saying his first choice said yes so he’s ditching her Tucker takes the rebound date
Jack has no memory of agreeing to chaperone it’s just a vague blur
Jazz says she knows Danny’s sudden clumsy nervousness is because he has a girlfriend Danny panics denying he’s not a ghost
Jazz warns he better warn his date his family is insane if she finds out after marriage that’s entrapment (I don’t think it is)
Danny walks out of the doorless kitchen but it then cuts to him opening a door and walking down the stairs
Sam being dateless facetimes the two with the dragon research she did but the first picture of the amulet of Aragon shows it on a thin chain when the whole time it’s thick and sectioned like a snake chain (is it because if the serpent theme also the picture is colored and the dragon depiction is accurate and it’s supposed to be from the medieval era is it an artist's rendition is Dorathea and her dragon form from actual history does this world have ghosts and cursed objects and the general populace is just unaware)
Sam’s final remarks hoping they have a wonderful evening on the date with the dragon is a cue for Danny to see she really wants to go they’re her best friends they should have known
Despite Tucker’s protests Danny overshadows him to ask Sam out (so Valerie is gonna think Tucker ditched her)
After Danny leaves his body Tucker was about to tell Sam no until he saw how hot she was in her dress (Sam you said your parents bought you that dress but it’s so your style I doubt that were you just deflecting your hurt feelings)
Paulina’s dad is the protective Papa bear type and basically gave Danny the shovel talk
“Let’s get down with our bad selves” “Yo shake that thing” “Hey G you’re my dog” (Lancer going full how do you do fellow kids)
Danny lies to Paulina that the amulet is actually Sam’s Paullina is pissed but not enough to turn full dragon
As Lancer talks to Jack about their discussion about Danny Danny overshadows Jack again and Maddie notices he sounds strange
When Jack/Danny goes up to Tucker and Sam Tucker is all too quick to throw Danny under the bus
Paulina refuses to give back the amulet or Danny believing he’s Sam’s boyfriend
Sam explains he’s her best friend and maybe that’s why she why so hard on her and says she didn’t mean to call her shallow (this could be a great character moment for them both)
Paulina then confesses she only went out with Danny to steal him from her and is disappointed so she put the amulet on Sam calling it crummy and goes to dump Danny calling him dorky
This enrages Sam calling her a shallow little witch (you know it this wasn’t rated 8+ on Nickelodeon that would be bitch)
Paulina faints from the shock (I mean yeah)
Sam’s dragon form breaks a giant hole in the school roof and no one notices
Danny sees the dragon is holding Paulina so it’s Sam he’s fighting confirmed when Sam calls Paulina shallow
Jack doesn’t recognize Lancer and demands to know why he’s talking to Maddie
Danny overshadows Jack again and lies that he didn’t recognize him because the light made him look like George Clooney (was he popular in the early 2000s)
Apparently Jack/Danny and Maddie’s dancing is so good the people on the dance floor cheer
Danny tangles dragon Sam up in the Fenton Fisher fishing line and removes the amulet and tells Sam she had a roaring time at the dance
Dash tries to flirt with an unimpressed Paulina
Danny and Sam go off to dance
As Tucker bemoans being dateless again Dorathea reappears wanting to go to the ball and Tucker freaks out
3 ONE OF A KIND
First appearance of the Box Ghost (they’re fighting in a warehouse does this imply Boxy is a dead warehouse worker)
That address on the box is labeled for Arlington Heights Illinois (they're also at a shipping at a port so is Amity Park in Illinois)
Danny thinks seals are canines (I don’t think he’ll be an astronaut)
Tucker fumbles the thermos dropping it and releasing dozens of ghost businessmen and the Box Ghost and it’s only 9 PM
First appearance of Skulker who states Danny being half human half ghost makes him one of a kind making him a fine addition to his collection
Skulker threatened Boxy that if he touches the cage he’ll adorn his fireplace with his pelt (so ghosts can be skinned)
Jazz considers her mom a genius and is happy Genius Magazine a magazine by women geniuses for women geniuses about women geniuses will answer her request to put her on that month’s cover
Danny thinks it is the swimsuit issue and thinks it’s gross his mom will be in it
Jazz sees it as an opportunity for the world to see her parents as normal and not ghost hunting freaks Danny denies they’re freaks
Maddie considers Jack to also be a genius as besides every genius woman there’s a genius man and Jack also wants to be beside her on the cover the world deserves to know the Fenton's are a family of geniuses cuts to Danny getting a D on the test (which makes sense those answers he wrote are nonsense also throw back to when they taught cursive in school and made us write in it)
Sam tells Danny he can to research on the endangered Purple Back Gorilla proving they deserve to be set free (Sam you have a fundamental misunderstanding on the importance and purpose of zoos)
Even Danny says he doesn’t have time to deal with her agendas but Tucker (blaming Sam for making him let all the ghosts out) uses his PDA to manage Danny’s time
First appearance of Mikey and when he continues screaming after Skulker webbed him to the wall and yells at him about being the world’s greatest hunter Skulker scolds him to be quiet in the library and gags him
Dash and another football player come in and the football player says he didn't do it but can appreciate high quality bullying (so bullying is highly prevalent at Casper High)
The trio spent 6 hours watching a gorilla scratch his butt
Tucker and Danny fall asleep hugging and Sam takes a picture to use as blackmail (I haven't seen a polaroid camera in years after everything went digital to the cloud they’re only just now bringing them back)
Sampson the gorilla freaks out when he hears Skulker fight a tiger he points and pulls on the door and Sam just lets him out of his enclosure (not only is the switch unlocked it’s also unguarded did this zoo just let three teens spend the night unsupervised)
Skulker’s binoculars alert him to an attacking gorilla right before Sampson goes apeshit on him (so is it because animals can sense ghosts or can Sampson sense Skulker is a threat)
Danny and Tucker sleep through the gorilla fight and Skulker crashing through the observatory tower window and most of the gorilla ghost fight round two
They are startled awake by the noise startled that they’re hugging and startled for a third time by the loose gorilla
Sampson freaks out and runs from Danny’s ghost form
Danny cuts Sam off before she warns him of the ghost and when Tucker threatens to tell everyone at school she released a gorilla she threatens them with the photo so they keep it a secret
Maddie sees Danny looking like crap and doesn’t like his overnight zoo research Danny says they just some kids at a zoo at night alone
Danny has a large sign on his door that says “DANNY’S BEDROOM”
Tucker gives him 13 minutes to sleep but Skulker was waiting calling him ghost child and captures him
Skulker explains he’s a collector of the rare and unique and that’s what Danny is and more (Skulker’s hair is now blue instead of green is it because of the dramatic lighting)
Jack and Maddie hear the loud noises from the fight and assume there's a ghost in the house (well they’re not wrong)
Sam says the noise Danny is making is from him lifting weights Maddie says he doesn’t have any when Danny yells about Jazz’s computer Sam says he’s using that
Danny crashes making a hole through the ceiling and falls into the kitchen shattering the table and Skulker kidnaps him Tucker plays off the damage as him doing karate
The interviewer is more interested in talking to Danny and Maddie wants to know what he’s doing too
Skulker has a device that can turn on the ghost portal
Sam starts lecturing about cages like how Sampson's a beautiful animal and deserves to roam free telling Skulker he should be ashamed
Skulker than takes Tucker’s PDA to Tucker’s complaint that he had three more payments on it (so technology is ghost compatible)
Now Skulker’s suit has to abide by Danny's schedule
Danny hurries and stops his family and the interviewer from seeing his destroyed room the interviewer takes his brooding messy and reclusiveness as a sign of a true genius but complains he’s not a woman
Tucker has a backup PDA to track Danny and Skulker’s schedule
Skulker hid a booby trap in a milk carton but is interrupted by the schedule now Danny realizes he could use it to his advantage
Danny gets Dash to open his gym locker triggering him to be the booby trap's victim
Even Skulker knows Dash will have an average life after high school
Danny now decides to plan to use the schedule to trap Skulker
Where did Sam and Tucker get that lifelike gorilla costume
Tucker hacks Skulker's PDA to mess with him as Danny fights him not taking the opportunity to power hi down before Skulker destroys that one and Tucker bemoans it had four more payments (I just looked it up the average price for a PDA in 2004 was about $350)
Skulker has had enough and plans to keep Danny’s pelt at the foot of his bed instead of having him live in a cage
Danny uses gorilla habits to call Sampson to fight Skulker declaring it was easy to learn his language when all he does is scratch his butt
Tucker wonders why a ghost would need a high-tech battle suit right when Sampson tears off Skulker's head to reveal a little frog sized ghost
Bending down to pick up the tech Danny is low and close enough to see something shocking about Sampson
The Genius Magazine publishes about Danny being the genius child of a genius woman discovering Sampson is actually a Delilah “Nobody at that zoo bothered to see if it was a boy or a girl?” (I know this was meant as a joke but it is possible to be mistaken recently a zoo discovered a male gorilla was a girl after she gave birth)
Lancer acknowledges he was desperate enough risk being mauled by a gorilla so gives him a C for it telling him next time try the library to get his grade up
Danny wants to take his misplaced aggression out on something then Boxy shows up he has five free minutes four more than he needs
Fic Summary: Grief has a way of changing people. Wes Weston's older brother going missing during the haunted house fire last year had changed him. His therapist would agree. Change isn't always for the better.
What hasn't changed are the countless questions Wesley was left with. Though some had more puzzling answers but answers nonetheless...
Could you kill a ghost?
And could Wes get away with it?
Author's Note: Thank you all to the lovely people who host @invisobang and who let me come back this year. I also wish to thank my lovely fic partner for this year @valpal5117 / @valpal5117-art! Go check out the artwork they've done for this piece, as well as everything else they post bc it's fantastic. I brought you all something a little different from my usual style, something a bit darker and a bit more spooky since the season is arriving. It's my first time writing Wes Weston, and I hope I've done this fan character some justice. Like last year I've included the link to my fic as well as the first chapter under the read more. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed making it! Thanks again! -Voorhees 🤟
Every morning Kyle would check the rat traps in the basement for his Dad. It wasn’t that he had strong feelings for the creatures, but he still winced at the idea of killing the poor things. It bothered him, but you get used to it, y’know? It wasn’t like he was a vegan or, god forbid, an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian. But death seemed so… permanent, for lack of a better word. It was such a severe punishment for the crime of just existing in a hostile environment.
Then again, this is Amity Park. Death didn’t seem to stick here.
It had been more than a year or so since they moved here, and with every passing minute, it felt like an eternity longer. Kyle, like any child, was apprehensive about transition, but when his father said they wouldn’t have to move again after their resettlement to Amity Park… he was more receptive to it.
But then again, it’s Amity fucking Park. It had this habit of sucking all the good out. As soon as you step into the county boundary, it's like you forfeit all rights to happiness.
At the bottom of the first-floor stairs, the sixth-grader had sleepily pulled on his socks. He hated going down there. The concrete floor was always so cold. It was like the ice resting on Lake Eerie. It was freezing and— it’d kill someone in this house to break out the broom. Rocks and shards of debris would lodge into his heel, and the youngest Weston would limp around the house. Kyle’s jaw popped as he yawned. The boy organized his choppy red hair into its natural cowlick before stuffing it into his ball cap. He got to his feet and shuffled towards the back of the house. The stairs creaked under his weight as he descended. The basement door caught a gust of wind and slammed against the wall, sending vibrations through the house.
Damn, I hope I didn’t crack the wall.
There was no arm rail for the stairs because this architectural nightmare was built before common sense. Kyle turned his head back from the light of the first floor, back into the blackness of the basement. He didn’t want to upset his Dad again.
See, this first year hadn’t been smooth sailing, if you managed to guess. Kyle’s brothers weren’t as ‘go-with-the-flow’ with the move. Or anything that came after. Kyle didn’t believe in conflict. He was the youngest; he was the baby of the family. He was the one who got the pat on the head for every single achievement; before, inevitably, the conversation shifted. It wasn’t his job to rock the boat. It was his job to be a good student, get the garbage out, and of course…
Go into the creepy-ass basement to check for rats that may or may not exist.
See, Wes was the first one to see the rats. Or, more accurately, he saw the damage the rats did. Some chewed and frayed wires in the power box—things of that nature.
…Wesley was a lot to unpack. Some would say.
He was high-strung, had trouble letting things go, and, oh yeah, he kept seeing things that didn’t exist. That was the concerning part. At first, everyone wanted to shrug it off as a 'middle child' thing. That's before he started saying his classmates were… dead. Wes said one of his classmates had been replaced with a ghost. Then there were the weird phone calls at all hours of the night. The obsession with short radios and the police scanners that would buzz and burst to life randomly with noise.
That’s what led to Kyle and Easton being dropped off at practices and games, while every other Thursday, they had to wave off their brother Wes in the parking lot of a therapist's office. Kyle had only been inside that building once. It didn’t smell like how a doctor’s office should, sterile, harsh, and chemical. Instead, it vaguely had the stench of coffee and cigarettes and was… overwhelmingly stale. It wasn’t a very ventilated place. There were hardly any windows except those in the private rooms where Wes would allegedly spend his allotted hour staring blankly out like he was in The Shawshank Redemption— effectively burning their father’s money.
The shrink— or rather, Ms Penelope, seemed really nice. Teetering on the edge of overkill. Kyle understood why his older brother would be reluctant to share anything with someone who appeared to be trying too hard to seem trustworthy rather than proving it. She didn’t seem too interested in Kyle’s issues per se; they spent their introductory session playing all manner of board games. Her office was plush. The couch was padded arm to arm with throw pillows, the kind with the fur on them. Not that the sixth-grader could get comfortable anyway. It may not have smelled like a regular doctor's office, but it sure was cold like one. What little hair he had on his arms stood on end with the chill.
Kyle spent most of his appointment hunched over the coffee table, trying to rationalize in his head which colored 'Sorry!' pawn meant he had the least amount of mental disturbances. The idea behind the practice was to become emotionally vulnerable, but often that feeling overlapped with being completely exposed. Not that the middle schooler had anything to hide. Nothing out of the ordinary for a kid his age.
Kyle would argue that he was the most well-adjusted in the family, including the two adults, in terms of who needed therapy and who didn't. Ms Penelope agreed and thought Kyle was quite mature beyond his years. However, that wasn’t the thing that stood out the most about that first and last session. Maybe it was something in his mannerisms or when Wes was brought up— perhaps it was what Kyle didn’t say.
Penelope seemed to believe that Kyle was developing the early stages of SAD. Separation Anxiety Disorder. She said it was completely natural, given what he’s been through. Kyle didn’t like to be alone. Who did? What shocked him was that he didn’t refuse. There was no initial denial when the shrink laid it out like that. With her soft and educated voice, she had smoothed out her red pencil skirt, and lowered her cat-eye glasses to the bridge of her upturned nose. She just said it without any preamble; no fanfare at all.
Who isn't anxious these days? In this economy? Have you seen where they live?
Penelope had deduced effortlessly that Kyle used his humor to distance himself from his fear. The facade that took him twelve years to craft had been pierced.
In even less time, she had come to the conclusion that the trigger for Kyle’s anxiety was… Wes.
At once, Kyle had leaped to his older brother’s defense. Saying that, while Kyle may have been a bit… stressed , for lack of a less clinical term, Wes would have never done anything intentionally.
That’s where she stopped him, her pen coming to a halt on her yellow notebook. Penelope dotted the end of her last sentence. Her eyes found him, then the cozy clutter of the office fell away. The maternal cadence dissolved into something cold and purely analytical.
She told him, ‘The path to hell is paved with good intentions.’
Every morning Kyle would check the rat traps in the basement.
The wooden stairs exhaled—Groaning with each step the youngest Weston landed. The water heater churned ominously. The grey floors were warped with age and stained with damage from times long gone. Kyle carefully found his way to the bottom and glanced up from his feet. He saw his brother now. Wes was hunched over the rat traps. He had one of his freckled hands inside like he was digging something out of it.
Kyle cocked his head, still blurry with sleep, rubbing his eyes, “What’re you doin’?”
Startling, Wes didn’t drop the metal box. Instead, the elder brother froze and stared up at his younger with bloodshot eyes. He didn’t answer right away.
Clearing his throat, Wesley pulled his fist out of the plastic box. He explained, “I thought I’d check the traps for you. I know it's… it’s kinda gross.”
Kyle let go of a sigh he didn’t know he was holding. He’d rather not look at something that small being dead. He asked, “Did we get’em this time?”
Hesitant to answer, the elder moved the now closed box into the trash, “Ye-yeah. We did.”
“Thank god.” Kyle scratched his forehead nervously, “Well, I mean, it sucks that it’s dead-dead, but…”
Standing, Wes clapped a hand on his younger brother’s shoulder, “It's just nature. Don’t feel too bad about it, ‘kay? If it wasn’t us, then it’d be a cat later or somethin’ else. They were already dead when they walked in here.”
“I guess…” Kyle begrudged and leaned into his brother’s hand, taking him wholly at his word. It was effortless to believe him. Wes had a way with words. Y'know that was his nickname when they were younger; Wesley the wise. Then there was Kyle the kind, Easton the earnest, and Clay…
Kyle winced. They weren’t supposed to talk about Clay.
Awkwardly, the older turned and stuffed something into his backpack before zipping it up, “Hey, don’t get too bummed out, alright? It's still kind of early, so now you have extra time to stop by the corner store and get some doughnuts for breakfast.” He threw his bag over his shoulder, “Doesn’t that sound good?”
Kyle rubbed his arms, sniffling, “Uh, yeah… chocolate milk with a maple bar… what’re you gonna get?”
Mirroring his younger brother’s body language, Wes shook his head, “You can go on ahead of me; you're old enough.”
“But Dad says—”
Wesley cut him off, “What Dad doesn't know won’t kill him.” He extended his pinkie, “I promise.”
Taking a step forward, Kyle wrapped his pinkie around his older brother’s; he nodded, “Alright. I’ll walk to school by myself.”
“Get a move on! I wanna hear all about your solo excursions when I pick you up!” Wes coaxed his brother up the stairs and out of the basement, “Talk to some cute girls, put in a good word for me.”
The conversation struck Kyle as odd. He couldn’t exactly put his finger on why. Maybe because Wes, for once, didn’t have to be dragged out of bed by his ankles. He seemed motivated.
Then there was the second fact: Wes basically told him everything he wanted to hear. This wasn’t a conversation but the facsimile of one. Like there was a cue card Wes was reading just behind Kyle’s head. Somewhere out there, the same audience that got their kicks from Full House would be cracking up about this.
He was pretending to be okay.
Like with every rehearsed motion, the elder was telegraphing silently, ‘Look! Look at me! Look at how good I am! Aren’t I fixed now? Aren’t you proud of me?’
There was something quiet about his desperation to be accepted back into the flock. The family didn’t like to acknowledge their blackest sheep. It was almost like an unspoken rule. Wes’ appointments and his antics were written off and thrown under a huge rug. Less like he was a young adult approaching college and more like a precocious toddler or a rambunctious family pet that was resistant to discipline. After all, both of those options bite people unprovoked.
Kyle could only wince through a smile. What was he supposed to do? He was just a kid, and as life liked to remind him at a near-constant pace— there was very little someone his age could contribute. So, he stays out of the way. What else could he do?
“Uh…” He asked once more, knowing he wouldn’t enjoy the answer, “Are— Are you sure?”
Wes silently tilted his head. He didn’t understand the rising fear in his younger brother’s voice.
Kyle clarified, “Are you sure you don’t want to walk together?”
“Don’t sweat it, bud. I won’t be late.”
That was the furthest thing from what Kyle was worried about.
