-> [ Deuce can be a bit too blunt sometimes because his brain-to-mouth filter is lax. ] He may come off as a bit tactless or insensitive at times, but he genuinely doesn’t mean to! (The only exception to this is how rude and combative he gets when someone pisses him off… but you’re likely only going to see that side of him from the sidelines, never directed at you). If you ever take offense to anything he’s said to you and it shows on your face, he’s quick to reel back and apologize and beg for your forgiveness, explaining what he actually meant. He doesn’t dare be intentionally disrespectful to his partner.

-> [ He isn’t exactly shy or untalkative, but he sometimes doesn’t always have a ton to say. ] In other words, yap as much as you want around him! Deuce will chime in when he has something he wants to say, but is otherwise happy to let you take center stage. Given that he probably doesn’t know much about zoology, he ends up learning quite a bit about the topic through your discussions - and he grows particularly fond of penguins simply because of your passion for them. He may be a bit forgetful and oblivious, but he’s quick to retain information about those he cares about. Expect the occasional penguin-themed gift!

-> [ Sometimes your puns go right over his head. ] You’ll make one and laugh about it to yourself and Deuce is just standing there, confused, the cogs turning in his brain as he tries to figure out what was so funny to you. On the plus side, if you have to explain it to him he’s likely to still find it quite funny in the end. Deuce makes it a personal mission to try and work on his witty, punny side for you, so he’s able to share in your humor a little easier. At least when it comes to sending funny memes or videos, he’s much more quick to adapt! Side note: he loves your laugh, it always brings a smile to his face.

-> [ The two of you can struggle during class together! ] How fun! While he’s trying to turn a new leaf now that he’s at NRC, he still struggles with paying attention in class and studying for exams. Plus, there’s just his general struggle with understanding complex ideas… He tries so hard not to procrastinate but he’ll still do it here and there. You might be a bad influence on him… But that’s okay, because you two can suffer together. Ace will definitely make fun of both of you as you’re rushing to get assignments done the night before they’re due, or when you do get a lousy grade on an exam because neither of you took down very good notes in class.

-> [ Deuce is the type who wants to sweetly and poetically tell his partner how much he loves them, but ultimately ends up stumbling over the words. ] He loves the idea of lovingly expressing his affection towards someone, telling them that they mean the world to him, but he second-guesses his phrasing a lot and also just gets really flustered trying to put things into words and say them out loud. So, he’s ultimately much more of an actions person - he really likes hugs and helping you out here and there. Though… there are those little moments, when he isn’t really thinking too hard about it, that his words towards you end up being very sweet. These moments surprise him as much as they melt you!

-> [ Though you likely meant that you like to ride bicycles, Deuce is happy to bring you out on a blastcycle. ] He thinks that has to be close enough, right? Bikes are bikes! He’ll have to get his hands on one first, but that’s just a matter of asking a few classmates from Ignihyde very nicely to see if they’ll lend him one. Or, if it happens to be a longer break and you decide to visit him at his home, he has his own. It’s probably a good thing that you’re a little bit reckless - as much as he makes sure that you and him are safe, riding a blastcycle definitely has its risks, and Deuce loves the thrill of it all.

-> [ He would love going out on little nature outings with you. ] Deuce finds that he quite enjoys taking a break from hectic, everyday life and being surrounded by nature instead - a very welcome change of pace. It’s very peaceful, and he doesn’t get to see nature-filled scenery very often in town or at school. And anything in your bright, warm presence is even better! These little escapes end up being like dates for you two. Honestly, if you were up for a weekend camping trip, he’d totally be down for it. He’s not the type to do much research or planning before the trip, though, so it’ll definitely be… an interesting time. But don’t worry, he’ll take care of any bugs you may encounter!

Blog introduction

Well hello there,

i decided to write a little introduction to me and this blog! So here is some general information about me!

I'm musicalbl00m, but you guys can just call me Bloom!

I identify as agender, and mostly use he/they/she pronouns.

I'm seventeen years old, and I'm dutch.

I study graphic design, and have a passion for singing and writing.

I have previously written some kind of poetry things, which i was pretty happy with.

I have a lot of interests, but my main ones are:

Lotr and the hobbit, Little women, daredevil, marauders, doctor who, punisher, hozier, brooklyn nine nine, the last of us, our flag means death, spiderman, percy jackson and criminal minds!

if requested, i will write x reader fics! so if you have any requests, send them in. I dont have specific characters to write for, so if you want someone specific just ask. there will probably be characters i cant write for, but i'll try my best. Prompt requests and Match-up's are also possible!

Here is the official bracket for the most Hated Character on Tumblr! Each round will last 24 hours, with a 12 hour break in between. Round 1 should start Feb 9, 2023 at 9:00 AM CST.

As a reminder, this tournament is for the characters that you hate the most, so always vote for your least favorite of the two options. The winner will be publicly executed.

FAQ under cut:

Q: Why did you put in x character and not y character? Aren't there more hateable characters from that franchise?

A: I wanted to keep the competition light-hearted, funny, and interesting. I intentionally avoided most shitty parent characters, dictators, characters who were meant to be hated, etc., as well as characters heavily associated with bigotry and sexual assault, and gravitated towards characters that were more divisive in fandom. Exceptions were only made for characters I am familiar enough with and can use my own judgement for. Using Zenos as an example: He is a villain who is very evil and meant to be hated, which I mostly avoided when taking suggestions for things I wasn't familiar with myself. However, he's very divisive between people who think he's a good interesting villain, people who don't think he's a good villain and don't like him in the story at all, and people who want him carnally. Walter White is also meant to be hated, but he has a meme status, and as a villain protagonist I think he's more interesting than most "meant to be hated" characters. Also, there are certain franchises that I simply didn't want to include. If JK Rowling wasn't such a real and horrible political presence, owing all her influence to Harry Potter, I would've definitely put Snape on the poll. As it stands, I don't really want to give HP any attention. TL;DR answer: Because it's funnier that way

Q: But I LIKE that character :(

A: As mentioned before, I specifically gravitated more towards characters who are more divisive rather than universally hated. They are usually more interesting, and there is more variety with those types of characters - you don't have shitty dad character #1 vs. shitty dad character #2. I actually looked for "anti-(character)" tags and discourse about that character when making decisions about who to include. lol If you actually like some of these characters (uh, my condolences), vote against them in their respective matchups.

Q: Is it too late to suggest a replacement?

A: Yes.

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: I feed off of hatred and violence. I want to see who tumblr users REALLY hate.

Q: Why Pearl?

A: It was quite a while ago now so I get it if people don't remember, but Pearl discourse used to be a big thing and people argued that she was irredeemable for many of the things she did early on in the show. If you remember the "Pearl hates the Irish" meme, that was a parody of how much people hated her

Q: Why Hooty?

A: I haven't seen the Owl House but I'm told many people think he's annoying. Also he's voiced by Alex Hirsch and fuck that guy he did my boy Ford so dirty I'm still mad about this

Q: Why Starlight Glimmer?

A: MLP:FiM is another show I didn't really watch but she was a villain who got redeemed and became a main character and a lot of people think her redemption arc was rushed and botched and she actually made a lot of people quit watching the show. One of my close friends really really really hates her and I don't think that's an isolated incident

Q: Why Berdly?

A: Annoying. Personally I think his arc of becoming less annoying was pretty fun but a lot of people still hate him.

Q: Why Bakugo (instead of Mineta)?

A: I actually debated this a lot and held a preliminary poll which Mineta actually won. But then I decided democracy is dead because Mineta really wouldn't be as interesting as Bakugo in this tournament because he's basically universally hated. Bakugo is more interesting because people who hate him REALLY hate him, while people who love him REALLY love him. Kind of like Vriska. I think. I never read Homestuck and I don't plan on ever doing so.

Q: Why Tony Stark?

A: He's a heavily divisive character because he's a war profiteer billionaire with a superiority complex, but the narrative treats him as a morally pure hero. Also, he's MCU Spider-Man's mentor and most of MCU Spider-Man is basically defined by Tony Stark and he's not allowed to be his own character. There's a bunch of other stuff but I didn't watch and I don't care about most of the MCU. Personally I'm a really big Spider-Man fan and I despise him for what he did to Peter Parker but I shall refrain from making this a long rant.

Q: Why did you include characters that you're not familiar with?

A: I didn't want to exclusively have characters from my interests. I wanted a bit of variety. Before the poll started, I accepted submissions for candidates, and basically trusted submitters to send in decent characters. Some of the characters I ended up with may go against the vague guidelines I set for myself, which kind of sucks, but that's how it is now.

A: Make your own tournament then. I'm just some guy making a tournament on tumblr dot com for free. Don't take it too seriously.

Hello competitors, participants, and spectators!

Now that the first round of the tournament is well underway, we'd like to clearly state some of our rules and expectations for "fair play" conduct.

Please be positive and respectful to other contestants in public spaces. This includes the discord server, public posts on tumblr blogs associated with your tournament entry, and all tagged posts- your own or otherwise.

The Kirby OC Tournament is a community event born of our shared love of original characters and the creativity and excitement they foster. As such it welcomes a wide range of participants, regardless of seniority, popularity, or skill. Negativity about other OCs or creators contradicts our goal of a supportive, low-stakes contest for everyone.

We kindly ask everyone involved in the tournament, as a competitor or a spectator, to please adopt a positive mindset of good sportsmanship, and follow some general community rules:

• Don’t belittle the designs or character lore of others. Even light-hearted roasts don't always land well-- if someone asks you not to joke about their OC, please be kind. This includes your own OCs too, and we strongly discourage competitors from putting themselves down in match-ups. Public polls of this nature are near impossible to truly predict, and the results may surprise you! • Don’t post ship discourse. This applies to fankids and OCs that are shipped with canon characters. • Don’t vent about other creators or characters in the tourney. We understand that competing can be nerve-wracking, and the downside of random pairing is that not everyone will be pleased with their matchup. Nonetheless, namedropping contestants or accusing others of having an unfair advantage leads to guilt-tripping and resentment. If you have a serious complaint about another contestant, please bring it to the @kirbyoctournament blog (tumblr) or the co-hosts (discord) in private.

• Please understand that this is a competition for fun. Popularity contests by their nature can be a bit rough, and losing is always a bummer. But we urge people not to take this personally; losses are not a reflection of your character or of your skill as a creator, nor an indication that your character is unpopular! 50% of contestants will be out in the first round, and only 2 out of 143 will make it to the final brackets. The point of this tourney was never "to find a winner", but to build a platform for the sharing and appreciation of Kirby OCs. If you are a competitor second guessing your ability to handle this pressure in a light-hearted and enjoyable way, or think you can't help but take losses personally, please reach out to us before the announcement of second brackets and let us know if you'd like to leave the tournament. • Lastly, we have a zero tolerance policy for bigoted and hateful speech. Any contestant found to be in violation of this will be kicked from the event and all related channels.

Breach of any of these rules may result in a formal warning regarding your position in the tournament, regardless of where the behaviour takes place. On the discord server in particular, posts that break these rules will result in any offending posts being deleted and users receiving a temporary mute.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out--and most importantly, have fun! Please remember that despite its competitive nature, this event is for fun only; the greatest reward we can have from it is to enjoy a good time together and get to see a lot of cool OCs!!

Tumblr Dr. Who Poll vs Doctor Who Magazine Poll

It's been just over a month since the end of @adventure-showdown 's monumental survey of how Tumblr feels about individual Doctor Who adventures. Across ten rounds, we sorted the wheat from the chaff, the Quarks from the Rills, and the Cousins from the Looms. I wanted to compare the results of that huge bracket with the results from last year's Doctor Who Magazine poll, which ranked each Doctor's stories individually.

The methodologies for these two were quite different (though adventure-showdown did seed the bracket with a pre-poll that used the same methodology as DWM, but I'm looking at the final poll results for my data here), so comparing them is really interesting! I'm not a statistician, I just like making spreadsheets for fun. I think what can be seen from the trends and data below is a really unique picture of two somewhat overlapping but seriously demographically distinct fragments of the fandom.

Methodologies

Poll Methodologies

The DWM poll asked readers to rank as many televised Doctor Who stories as they liked from 1 to 10. The editors then took the resulting scores for each story and put them in a ranked list for each Doctor.

adventure-showdown began with a series of Google Forms with the same method as DWM, asking internet users to rank stories from 1 to 10. adventure-showdown lumped and split stories differently to DWM: The Key to Time was included as a distinct Four story to each of its individual parts, and each of the individual parts of Trial of a Time Lord and Flux were included alongside the overarching story. Utopia was also split from The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords.

adventure-showdown used the resulting rankings to create a series of Tumblr polls, moving from a group stage into a series of head-to-head matchups. They matched stories up roughly by obscurity (keeping advertisements and musical numbers separate from audio dramas and comics, which were separate from TV spin-offs, which were separate from the TV show itself), then Doctor or era. With each new round, the matchups were scrambled within melded groups, which ultimately led to a diverse distribution of all different eras and media under the umbrella of Doctor Who throughout the tournament.

My Methodology

In order to turn adventure-showdown's poll results into something that can be compared to DWM's, I created a spreadsheet tracking how each Doctor's stories were doing, separating them first into tiers according to which round they were eliminated in, then within those tiers by how many votes they had in the matchup where they were eliminated.

In the case of some particularly tough matchups, this means that the story that got the most points throughout the entire competition is not necessarily the highest-ranked story for that Doctor. For instance, The Happiness Patrol finished #3 of the Seventh Doctor's stories according to my reckoning of the Tumblr poll, being eliminated in the fifth round with 400 votes, less than the two stories above it (which were eliminated in rounds where they got 147 and 107 votes, respectively). The Happiness Patrol saw a vigorous campaign to increase its vote count, since it was up against Blink. The post for the matchup that eliminated it currently has 304 notes as of this writing. This is one of the fun quirks of this execrise.

General Trends

Where We Agree

The Ninth Doctor shows very stable story rankings between DWM and Tumblr.

On average, the difference in rankings for each episode of 9 is 5%, with only 2 out of 10 stories actually moving up or down the rankings at all. The Sixth Doctor is similar: only 3 of his 8 stories (included in the DWM poll, meaning not counting the individual parts of Trial) moved by more than 1 ranking. The Seventh Doctor only had 4 of his 12 stories move by more than 1 ranking.

On the flipside, Tumblr's opinions differ from DWM most regarding the First, Fifth, and Eleventh Doctors. The only stories that stayed relatively stable across both rankings for these Doctors are as follows.

For the First Doctor, only 4 out of 29 didn't shift by more than 1 ranking: #2 The Time Meddler, #5 The Tenth Planet (#6 in DWM), #18 The Keys of Marinus, and #20 The Reign of Terror (#19 in DWM) For the Fifth Doctor, we agreed only 5 times out of 20: #1 The Caves of Androzani, #2 The Five Doctors (#3 in DWM), #11 Frontios, #14 Black Orchid, and #17 Arc of Infinity (#16 in DWM) For Eleven, 5 of his 39 stories stayed relatively stable: #1 Vincent and the Doctor (#2 in DWM), #4 The Eleventh Hour (#3 in DWM), #9 Amy's Choice, #14 The Snowmen (#13 in DWM), and #39 The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe.

As you'll see further below, there is usually agreement between both polls about at least one episode that is in the top and bottom 3 or 4 for each Doctor, so these extremes represent the battle over ordering the ones generally ranked in the middle.

We Hate Daleks

As a general trend, Tumblr seems to think less of Dalek stories than the general DWM readership.

Out of 26 stories with Daleks as the primary antagonist, only 8 did not drop by more than 1 slot between the DWM poll and the Tumblr bracket (that is The Chase, Genesis of the Daleks, Remembrance of the Daleks, Dalek, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks, The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar, and Eve of the Daleks). DIM/Evolution actually ranked 3 slots higher on Tumblr than the magazine, while TMA/TWF and Eve finished significantly higher on Tumblr than in the magazine, cracking into the top 5 for their respective Doctors.

We Love The Master

Meanwhile, out of 26 stories featuring the Master, either as the primary antagonist or as an important character, only two dropped by more than one place in the rankings (The End of Time and The Power of the Doctor), while the others either stayed put or increased their positions, some by quite a lot (e.g. The Time Monster (up 20 slots in the Third Doctor rankings), The Keeper of Traken (up 8 slots in the Fourth Doctor rankings), Planet of Fire (up 6 spots in the Fifth Doctor rankings), and The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar (up 9 spots in the Twelfth Doctor rankings)).

We Have No Easily Observable Feelings About the Cybermen

Out of 18 Cyberman stories, 9 fell in the rankings between DWM and Tumblr, while 5 stayed within 1 rank of the DWM poll, and 4 rose. If I had to venture a hypothesis based on my unscientific qualitative analysis, it looks like Tumblr marked down most of the Classic Who Cyberman stories (only The Tenth Planet, The Invasion, and Attack staying within 1 rank of the DWM poll), while the only ones that rose in the ranks were New Who stories (Rise/The Age of Steel, Closing Time, Nightmare in Silver, and Dark Water/Death in Heaven-- though of course this last one is also a Master story, which we know we love).

Who said that? I thought you had all gone. You shouldn't scare me like that. Well, you see, the Eighth Doctor only has two televised appearances in which he features, and only one of those was included in the DWM poll. This post is about comparing the two polls. I can't really do anything...

Televised Appearances

We ranked The Night of the Doctor above the TV Movie. Night made it all the way to round 6, while the TV Movie was out in Round 2, losing with 266 votes to Jubilee, which then lost to Scherzo in the next round. Night lost to Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, which had 344 votes to Night's 204.

Audios

Scherzo made it to the quarter-finals of the Tumblr poll! It lost out to Midnight 435 to 581, the first TV episode it encountered in adventure-showdown's very intricate media-segregating bracket.

Caerdroia made it to round 7, losing to Scherzo after it had beaten out Father's Day in round 6 (299-280) and the much-loved SJA episode The Curse of Clyde Langer in round 5.

The Natural History of Fear made it to round 6, finally losing out to Blink (253-352), and making it the top-scoring Eight audio to go out in this round.

The Chimes of Midnight also got to round 6, finally just losing to Remembrance of the Daleks (163-166); in the same round, Zagreus lost to Scherzo (131-210) just after it had beaten Genesis of the Daleks (132-103) in round 5.

The next highest-ranked Eight* audio is Solitaire (a Companion Chronicle, hence the asterisk), which was eliminated in round 5, losing to Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead (180-43).

It's worth noting here, that Doctor Who and the Pirates also made it to round 6, making it the highest-ranked non-Eighth Doctor audio. It lost to City of Death (170-78). The next-highest ranked audios are The Marian Conspiracy (lost in Round 5 to The Wedding of Sarah-Jane Smith), The Holy Terror (lost in Round 5 to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances), and A Death in the Family (lost in Round 5 to The Natural History of Fear). Novels

The EDA Alien Bodies managed to make it to round 6, finally being eliminated by Turn Left with 145 votes to 264. It had just beaten out Time Crash in the previous round. This makes it the highest-ranked Doctor Who novel overall, according to this Tumblr tournament.

The next-highest novel for the Eighth Doctor was Unnatural History, which was defeated in round 5 by The Chimes of Midnight.

The Flood also made it to round 3, where it was eliminated by the Thirteenth Doctor comic Old Friends, gaining 39 votes against Old Friends' 47.

I've managed to parry everyone on my dash talking about this for the last 2 weeks, but it's fascinating to see the final evolution of what is functionally just discourse bait. this poll only exists because its predecessors were successfully able to garner serious responses to seemingly silly matchups, incentivizing op to magnify the stakes moving forward and heighten that specific kind of engagement. op did not have to do this. they likely even had some idea that this framing is kind of disrespectful and garish; but even if you are level headed enough to maintain that the poll is stupid, the bait is less the poll itself and moreso the way thousands of random social media users choose to approach it. a mere fleck of someone in the notes going "never seen the other one everyone vote for homestuck!!" in earnest will make you at least think, "come on, man"- and that is enough to say that op has successfully baited you into participating. even this post exists in the matrix of The Discourse. spoon kid voice. it is not the spoon that bends it is only yourself.

Oh no worries, I like specific so it's all good!

"I'm gonna be just like them one day.." Sighing dreamily, you sat down at the cafeteria table, watching a video on your rotomphone while chowing down breakfast.

It was footage of a fierce Pokémon battle in Galar--a showdown between two of your idols, who were among the most famous dragon trainers of all time: Lance and Raihan.

Of course, you looked up to many other dragon type users in Paldea, but these two in particular kickstarted your dreams of becoming one yourself, inspired by their interviews and fierce determination.

You also hoped to meet them and have a battle, although that was a little too farfetched for you right now..

Yet you didn't let that discourage you from forming your own dragon team, using your studies at Uva/Naranja Academy to teach them all the best moves and remember type matchups.

Tatsugiri was your main partner, and when combined with your Dondozo..it was an absolute powerhouse in double-battles--albeit this academy usually focused on the traditional single battles.

You were also currently raising a Drakalok, Cyclizar, Arctibax, and Sliggoo, and you cherished all of them dearly. Tatsugiri was a bit of an attention hog at times, though, and always wanted to stay out of its ball and on your shoulder.

You didn't mind it, of course. Whether you're heading to class or to a tournament where dragon trainers were going to participate, you always went together.

Life was perfect.

Except for-

"Still prattling on about being the next famous dragon gym leader, huh?"

-one of your bullies already ruining your day before it could even begin.

For some reason..a few kids at the academy really had it out for you simply because you admired famous dragon trainers. You didn't think there was anything wrong with looking up to your idols. But apparently they thought you were being too "obnoxious" about it and sought to make your life utterly miserable.

It only got worse when you spoke up about it to a teacher, as that bully got off with nothing but a slap on the wrist--that being to train their Pokémon as "punishment".

By sheer convenience, they had ice and fairy types. And that teacher only gave them the chance to make their team stronger and further intimidate you...to the point where you're afraid to go outside, fearing they'll drag you into a battle.

You've kept silent since, hoping to avoid them at all costs and try to keep your grades up. But unfortunately, Arceus wasn't smiling upon you today...and quite frankly, you were tired.

Huffing, you switched off your phone and scowled up at the bully. "Still following me around campus, huh?" You mocked, with Tatsugiri hopping on the table and mimicking your expression. "That's kinda creepy if you ask me."

"Well those stupid fangs of yours are creeping everyone out." They sneered, pointing out your sharp teeth. "Halloween is over, y'know."

"I've already told you..these are canines, and they are real."

"Yeah? More like real freaky."

"Look, just leave me alone before you anger Tatsugiri." You warned, watching as their gaze shifted to your ace, falling silent for a moment or two...

Before erupting into laughter. "Oh wow, I'm soooooo scared of your stupid sushi roll! What ever will I do??" They shook their head. "If you want my advice, dump this thing and get yourself a real dragon. Like a Charizard or-"

"You don't get to decide WHO I can have as a partner!!!" Your hands slammed onto the table as you stood up, fists clenched with anger. Even though you could see people's heads turning in your peripheral vision, you didn't care. "Tatsugiri may not look it, but it's more powerful than you'll ever know! You don't know our bond, so just back off already!!"

"Oooooh, I didn't know you knew Outrage..better not hit yourself in confusion." They snickered.

"...why are you like this?" With slumped shoulders, you frowned at them. "Why do you keep tormenting me day after day?! I've done nothing to you. Is it a crime to admire my heroes? To wanna be like them?"

"No, but you'd be an embarrassment to every future dragon tamer. I mean who'd wanna see a pathetic thing like that in the Elite Four? Or on a Champion's team? Raihan and Lance would laugh in your face and crush you if they saw-"

"STOP IT!!" You finally snapped, hitting the table again before taking out one of your pokeballs. "Do you want a battle?! Is that what you want?!! Then you'll get it-!!"

"[Y/n], what is the meaning of this?"

Hearing the voice of the director made all the color drain from your face. The bully just smirked as you slowly turned to Harrington, seeing him looking at you with a frown.

"This is the second disturbance you've caused in this same area. You know battles aren't permitted inside the academy."

It's only then did you realize everybody in the cafeteria was staring..and you shrunk back in embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry, Director. I didn't mean to shout. They were just-"

But when you tried to point out the bully, they were gone.

How convenient.

"From how it looks..you were intimidating them. And you should also know we have a zero tolerance policy for such behavior."

"But I wasn't..they-!" You tried in vain to defend yourself, yet the look on Harrington's face told you he didn't wanna hear any of it.

"We can discuss this further in my office. Return your Tatsugiri to its pokeball and follow me, if you will."

"....yes, sir." Defeated, you gathered your things and put Tatsugiri back into the pokeball (much to its dismay), before commencing the long walk of shame to the director's office.

Maybe he will believe you.

.......

"He didn't believe me either. What's the point of "standing up for myself" if I'm just gonna get in trouble?! What's the point if they're always gonna get away with it while I face suspension?!"

"Suu.."

"I know I kinda let myself go back there, but...th-they kept pushing me and pushing me! Why couldn't he understand that? Why doesn't anyone here understand-?!"

"Tasu!"

Calming yourself down a little, you looked to Tatsugiri, who sat on your bed and looked up at you with sad eyes, wishing you weren't being so harsh on yourself.

"....well, I know you understand me, buddy." You quietly sighed and sat down, bringing it into your hands as it nuzzled your cheek. Immediately your shoulders relaxed. "I'm sorry. Thank you. I'm just...it's been frustrating. But I swear I'll never replace you for any other dragon. Not even for a shiny Charizard."

"Yip-yip?!" It cried out.

"Believe me! I won't." You chuckled, although you stopped as you thought over this morning's events...

And suddenly you felt sick to your stomach.

Just thinking about going to your afternoon class today made you feel ill, wondering who was going to harass you two next...and if you'll be able to do anything about it without getting into trouble with the director.

Now that you've gotten your second strike, you had to be careful not to lash out like that again.

But what else were you supposed to do?

Let them continue to bully you around and make your poor partner feel absolutely worthless? How was that fair to either of you?

At this point, you've ran out of adults in this academy to talk to...besides the nurse, of course, although she seemed more adept at healing Pokémon than counseling students.

Even if she was willing to listen, you doubt anything would change.

Nobody here took your side or could possibly understand what you were going through-

"Roto-to-to~"

Your rotomphone started ringing, displaying an unknown caller ID. Normally you'd ignore it, although Tatsugiri had a better idea and decided to slap the screen with its fin, answering it.

"Tatsu!" You grumbled, pulling it away from your phone before addressing the stranger, feeling embarrassed. "Sorry! My Pokémon-"

"Greetings, am I speaking to [y/n]?"

".....uh...yeah?" Your eyebrows furrowed with confusion, not expecting to hear a distorted voice on the other end of the line. "And who am I speaking to exactly?"

"My name is Cassiopeia. Leader of Team Star."

"Team Star?" You blinked, remembering all of the rumors you've heard about this organization. They were a small group of kids who got bad grades, skipped school often...and sometimes harassed others into joining them or pulled pranks on teachers.

Why would their leader contact you?

Or better yet...how did they even get ahold of your number?

"Correct. We've been watching you for some time, and we see your pain. It must feel awful...being pushed around and intimidated all because you admire some famous trainers. And when you finally have the courage to defend yourself and your Pokémon...suddenly you're the bad guy? It's so unfair."

"How do you.....l-look, um..Cassiopeia. I got a lot going on right now." You mumbled, hoping to end this conversation quickly. "I'm facing suspension if I cause one more scene, so I don't think I should be talking to delinquents like-"

"That is a lie. Team Star isn't a group of delinquents. We're so much more than that." They interrupted you, sounding a bit annoyed. "The truth is that WE are the victims. We who were shamed and excluded for the crime of being ourselves. The system has failed us, [y/n], and we formed this group as a way to stand up and stand out."

"...ah, I see." Now you were growing a bit more understanding and sympathetic towards them. You always had a feeling that your classmates overexaggerated how "evil" this team really was, making comparisons to Team Rocket and organizations that were legitimately evil and criminal.

But obviously, you never put your two cents in. You were already getting bullied enough just for saying Lance and Raihan are cool dragon trainers you wished to meet.

You were already getting bullied enough just for admiring some famous dragon trainers.

"So...obviously you're trying to sell me something." You huffed, kicking your feet up on the desk. "You want me to join your team as one of your goons-?"

"Oh no. I actually have something much better in mind." Cassiopeia cut in once more. "We've seen how you battle with dragon types. Very impressive, I must say. You never back down from a challenge. You're fierce, protective..and you demonstrate incredible leadership."

That felt flattering to hear, considering all the times you've gotten criticized for your battling techniques during Ms. Dendra's class.

Recently, she actually made you apologize to your classmate, whose Pokémon was actively bullying yours and provoked it into using a powerful move that knocked it out in one hit.

Why was that such a problem?

Because you weren't supposed to be battling, but the bully kept pushing you into one--and of course, Ms. Dendra didn't see that part.

Only the part where you broke the "No-OHKO" rule she had written into her lesson plan for that day.

Now you were struggling to get your grades back up in battle strategies, which was hard since you gained a reputation as being "too aggressive"..when in reality you were just so afraid and fed up that no one would listen to you.

So hearing this complete stranger give you praise felt genuinely good.

"Oh! Ah...thank you." You decided to bite the bullet. "So what's your offer?"

"We believe you're a good fit to be a squad leader. We have one more slot available. Interested?"

Your heart immediately jumped at the opportunity, although part of you was still holding back.....wondering if it was worth getting mixed-up with people like Cassiopeia and Team Star's revered leaders.

This could very well throw away your entire future and your goals of becoming the next dragon type gym leader. You could be expelled for sure, or even blacklisted from partaking in tournaments.

But at the same time, you were so tired of living in fear and dealing with all of this alone.

Why should you have to? That's setting a terrible example for your Pokémon--they shouldn't have to see their trainer living like that. You had to be brave and stronger, but that was almost impossible if you were just going to suffer repercussions for trying.

Cassiopeia took your silence as hesitation. "I know this is a lot to think about. But trust me, [y/n]. Team Star can do more for you than the Academy ever did. You'll get to train without limits. Your name will be known by all, and nobody will mock you or Tatsugiri ever again. That is what you want, isn't it? To grow stronger together? To stand up against those who wronged you?"

Hearing them mention your partner made you look to the Mimicry Pokemon in your lap. Seeing the way they put their fin on your hand and gave you a small nod ultimately solidified your answer.

You weren't turning back now.

"We can discuss this tomorrow if you'd like-"

"No, I made up my mind. I'll take it. When do I start?"

..........

"Looking sharp as always, Revavroom."

With a sharp-toothed grin, you gently patted the head of your Starmobile--specifically the Revavroom attached to it, as it rumbled in happiness.

Then you hopped onto the vehicle, climbing up to the stage where you could survey the rest of your camp, observing your goons hanging out by the vending machines and driving around on their Cyclizars.

This was the Achird Squad base stationed at Casseroya Lake, and for about a year or so...you've also called it home.

The location was perfect for a mighty dragon leader such as yourself, allowing you to keep watch over the Tatsugiri and Dratini herds you'd see in the waters from time to time.

It was far better than the cramped dorms of the Academy. They would never have let your dragons roam free like Dragapult, Baxcalibur, and all the rest were doing right now..

Ever since joining Team Star, you never looked back and never regretted your decision. You became fast friends with the other bosses, with Atticus even designing some cool armor plates for your outfit that resembled a Kommo-o's scales.

Although things have been...rather weird as of late.

Especially since it was the anniversary of the incident.

Back at the Academy, you and all of the leaders came together with the ultimate to confront your bullies once and for all. It was meant to finally settle who was the strongest, and how you were sick of being pushed around.

Least to say..the tables have turned, and everyone knew your names.

The bullies ended up running scared, barely putting up a fight themselves before scrambling to heal and recall their Pokémon.

You felt pretty good about it, especially when you knocked out that jerk who made fun of your teeth and admiration for dragon trainers in one fell swoop.

But then you looked around and saw everyone's scared faces. Many were recording the battles, spreading them all over social media, or shielding their own Pokémon from potential harm--even though you never intended to hurt them whatsoever.

It turned into a huge scandal over who was in the right or wrong, although in the end your bullies played the victims, dropped out of school, and ended up being listened to the most.

They made you out to be monsters who just attacked them for no reason..and it almost got you all expelled.

However, Cassiopeia took the blame, and while you were pardoned, Harrington, the deputy director (who tried erasing all records of the scandal and bullying to "preserve" the Academy's image), and many teachers left, guilty that they didn't do more to prevent this.

It would have been a bittersweet victory for Team Star---had your leader not also vanished, their last message being a call for the organization to disband.

To this day, none of you understood why they'd do that...or why they think you'd ever wanna leave this team and go back to your studies.

How could you after the faculty messed up this badly?

How could you after they still sided with the bullies?

How could you after they tried to cover up what really happened?

In the end, you all promised to stick together, abiding by your codes and living out on the squad bases. You occasionally met up for discussions and battle plans, although you always held onto hope that if the team kept going long enough....Cassiopeia might come back.

You've tried contacting them through various means, yet none of your Rotoms could retrace their calls nor social media posts. Everything was gone.

As though they wanted you all to forget ever meeting them..

It never made sense to you, considering you could really use a leader back then.

But what's done is done, and you winded up assuming a de factor leader position, given your team was the strongest out of all of theirs. Of course, Ortega was less-than-pleased about holding a vote on it, but you won the majority and he eventually got over it.

Now you've been training your Pokémon more frequently, and only because there's something called "Operation: Starfall" going around--and apparently some Paldean trainer was going around tackling each base with the hope of claiming their badges.

One of the codes was that being defeated in battle meant surrendering it, and that means...

Someone was dead set on shutting down Team Star for good.

But you wouldn't let them. The other bosses were your friends, family..and you'll be damned if you lost them, too.

"Boss! The others are comin' in!" You heard one of the grunts shout, and you looked towards the horizon in surprise.

She wasn't kidding.

Ortega, Mela, Eri, Giacomo, and Atticus were at your base's entrance, waiting for you. Although you were eager to see them after being occupied with training for so long...it didn't concern you that all of them chose to show up at once.

But you refused to show any sort of alarm, huffing as you jumped off the stage, mounting your partner Cyclizar. "Let's ride!" You barked, allowing it to sprint towards the group at full speed.

Your cape fluttered in the wind as it leaped across a small stream, all while Tatsugiri--who was resting in a small basket attached to it--held on for dear life.

Upon arriving, the bosses stopped their chatter and turned as you slowed down, stepping off Cyclizar. You gave it a small pat on the head, assuring that it could rest, before looking at the group.

"So we meet again...what's with the sour faces?" Your eyebrows furrowed at their expressions. When nobody was immediately speaking up, you huffed. "Come on, out with it. You can't come all this way to my base just assume I can read your minds-"

"We come before thee bearing..a warning." Atticus muttered, bowing his head in shame. "The student you've spoken of hath proven to be quite the adversary."

"Is that so? Surely they haven't claimed all of your badges, have they?"

"........"

"Why is no one talking-?"

"Because we got our asses handed to us." Mela bluntly stated, clenching her fists. "We got absolutely smoked...and now you're the only one left."

Your eyes widened in shock and horror, although you didn't get the chance to respond as Ortega cut you off.

"Now before you freak out on us all..we did try our best. We did everything you and Cassiopeia taught us. But this kid....they're good. Almost too good. And this guy named Clive was helping them out the whole time, getting under our skin and everything...."

"Well I wouldn't say that." Eri looked at the fairy trainer, crossing her arms over her chest as she frowned. "He wanted to know where we're coming from and why we're doing all of this."

"...and you just told him?"

You could see everyone tense up, and you just scowled, wondering why they would do this.

"What makes you all think he would care...or why anybody from that academy would care about us now?" Your eyebrows furrowed as Tatsugiri sat on your shoulder, mimicking your expression. "Nobody cared when they hurt us...nobody cared when we were literally begging for help. Look, I know keeping this group together was hard, but it's no excuse to-"

"Honestly...I'm kinda tired of this charade. At least someone's willin' to listen to us now.." Giacomo remarked, frowning a little bit. "But here's the lowdown, [y/n]: we got beaten into the dirt and followed our code, so now we're here to give ya a little heads up before this kid comes after you next. We're sorry. But we tried."

"And we still don't know who's really behind this sting operation.." Mela grumbled, shaking her head in worry. "Someone wants to shut us down for good, and it's definitely not either of those new students. They're just being used to carry out the dirty work."

"I might have a good idea on who it is...and I swear, they'll answer for this." You bared your teeth. "But I'll save my dragon rage for this trainer. Wherever they are, whatever they're doing...I hope they know I'm ready. Because I'm gonna defend Team Star...defend us....until my last breath."

"Su! Su!!" Tatsugiri trilled in agreement, nuzzling your cheek, to which you couldn't help but smile a little bit.

"Well whatever happens next, you have our full support, [y/n]." Eri smiled as she patted your shoulder. "Badge or no badge, we stand behind you."

Everyone else chimed in with agreements, smiles on all of their faces as well--although Atticus' wasn't immediately noticeable, you could see it in his eyes.

Knowing this group still cared about you and believed in your battling skills made all the tension leave your shoulders.

"Thank you, my friends. Hasta la vistar ~☆"

Discworld Fight Club 2023 Masterpost

Welcome to the biggest rumble the Disc has ever seen! Thrill as some of the turtle's premier brawlers, assassins, vampires, magic users, and tricksters face off in a five-round tournament to see who's the best of the best!

But first, please read the Rules:

Remember to vote based on who you think would win in a fight, not necessarily who is your favorite character. This is a tournament, not a popularity contest!

These fighters are good guys and shouldn't really bear any real animus toward each other, so consider this a more or less friendly event where no one is literally trying to murder anyone. So, when considering what weapons and techniques a character might use, think more in terms of how they'd incapacitate one another. That might involve using weaponry of course, but like, maybe Detritus shouldn't have access to the Piecemaker, is the kind of thing I mean, ha.

A contestant can win by knocking their opponent out, making them 'say uncle' so to speak, or even tricking them somehow! Think about the characters' strengths beyond, well, physical strength!

Successfully running away counts as a victory for the runner, not as a default win for the contestant left behind.

Reblogging and replying to the polls, especially with commentary on your reasoning for your vote, would be super fun and I hope a lot of people will do that! I tried to seed the bracket so the matchups are interesting, and I think there's some room for debate on a lot of them even at the start. Have fun!

-> [ In terms of personality, you balance both Lucifer and Lilith. ] Lucifer and Lilith’s personalities already compliment each other well (motivations and plans for the future aside), but your own personality plays quite well off of both of them as well. You’re social and friendly, but honest and straightforward. You’re independent, but very affectionate with those who you allow into your circle. Assuming Lucifer and Lilith were together before you entered the picture, you were a good friend of both and eventually including you into the relationship happened gradually, but very naturally. Lucifer can really indulge in his goofy, affectionate, and soft side around you without worry that he’s suffocating you. Meanwhile, Lilith likes that you’re self-sufficient and willing to give her space when she needs, but still willing to open your heart and be affectionate with her. And when all three of you are spending time together, it just works so well.

-> [ Lilith adores performing with you, regardless if you two have an audience or not. ] In most cases, you’re playing one of the several instruments you know while Lilith sings. These little sessions of yours likely began early on in your friendship with her, long before you two were romantically involved. You had just been practicing, keeping yourself busy with your free time, when she happened to overhear. She felt her voice would compliment your playing, surprising you by stepping into the room and singing a tune she felt matched the one you were playing, and the rest is history. The style of the music you two indulge in together varies on the instrument you choose to play at that moment, but Lilith is personally quite fond of the piano and cello. On occasion, Lucifer might join in and play a second instrument alongside you, but he often lets you two have these moments to yourselves.

-> [ Meanwhile, Lucifer likes working on some of his duck crafts while you work on projects of your own. ] You two even have a shared crafts room! Which… tends to get really cluttered and messy, full of your respective materials and half-finished projects, so you two make it a point to tidy up the room at least once every week. Even while you’re both absorbed in your individual crafts, the room is rarely quiet. Lucifer doesn’t mind if you decide to play some music, and you two will often make idle chatter that ebbs and flows comfortably. Occasionally, Lucifer needs a break and he’ll scoot over towards your side of the room and watch as you paint or sculpt, watching your hands create your next masterpiece. Whenever one of you finishes a project, there’s a big commotion as either you or he shows it off - and you two always show Lilith your finished works as well. She always has the sweetest smile, finding you two absolutely endearing.

-> [ Neither of them really mean to, but Lilith and Lucifer end up relying on you in a pinch when they need something while out and about. ] It starts out with them borrowing little things that are just convenient to have on hand but not a huge necessity, like a bottle of water when they’re a bit thirsty, or chapstick when they just happen to idly notice that their lips are a bit dry. Lucifer might get the occasional cut or scrape while out and about just because he has his somewhat clumsy moments, but you’re there to the rescue with the mini first aid kit in your bag. Lilith once handed over one of her favorite lip glosses and perfumes for you to hang onto, and they ended up being designated as the travel lipgloss and travel perfume and you bring them with you any time you’re out with her just in case she needs them.

-> [ Lucifer is more likely to give you gifts to show his affection, while Lilith leans more towards quality time. ] Lucifer will gift you with softer, unique rubber ducks that he worked on in secret (hiding them from your sight when you were both working on stuff together), but is just as likely to buy you plushies or figurines to add to your ever-growing collection. Lilith values her independence and time, but happily seeks out your company when she wants to be in your presence - she makes it very clear when someone is near and dear to her. Lucifer and Lilith are both rather physically affectionate in their own ways as well; Lucifer likes being enveloped in your arms in a tight hug, and Lilith enjoys petting your hair or resting a hand on your cheek or arm when sitting beside you. Both of them enjoy using petnames - darling is a favorite of Lilith’s for you, and Lucifer often calls you handsome.

-> [ It can be quite hard to decide on dates at times! ] All three of you have very distinct personalities and preferences - so someone is always going to need to compromise somewhere… but that’s just a fact of life. Going out for dinner is usually very well received by each of you, since it gets you all out of the house for a change of pace and no one is stuck cleaning up. Shopping is also something you all enjoy, and money is no issue for any of you. You and Lucifer often try to out-do each other in terms of spoiling your relationship partners, which cracks Lilith up. Dates involving arcades and movie theaters are going to be better received by Lucifer than Lilith, as she isn’t the fondest of loud, bright, noisy areas. She prefers spa dates, getting pampered and fussed over, which is something you’re happy to indulge in every once in a while with her.

-> [ You’re the one who ends up documenting your shared life together through photos and sketches. ] Lucifer and Lilith often don’t think about capturing the little moments on camera - the exception being when you’re all out having fun and the moment seems picturesque and calm enough for a group photo. But you tend to have a camera at your fingertips, always on the lookout for pretty things to take pictures of (and you have two pretty people to snap photos of at your side anyway), so over time you naturally start documenting things, putting them in photobooks or scrapbooks. With drawing being a big hobby of yours as well, you’ve most likely tried your hands at portraits of your partners. On a bittersweet note, these photos and drawings become important to Lucifer, Lilith, and Charlie alike when things start falling apart and Lilith leaves. Each of you have a small collection of images of the once-happy family you were, looking at them wistfully during nostalgic, somber moments.

-> [ With their separation, you’re put in quite the difficult position. ] Ultimately, with Lilith leaving, you’re going to lose contact with her as well. She’s firm in her decision, to the point where Charlie, her own daughter, is unable to get ahold of her. Unfortunately, despite your best efforts, it’s not likely that you’ll be able to stay in touch with her. You and Lucifer rely on each other heavily during this time. He obviously doesn’t cope with the separation well, withdrawing and isolating himself, throwing himself into his crafts - you end up being his rock. You’d do your best to be resilient, supporting Lucifer and trying to bring him back up from his gloom. You’re good at listening and Lucifer knows you won’t judge him for the way he breaks down from the weight of Lilith leaving and having to raise Charlie without her. Chances are you’d feel the need to try and fill the gap that both Lilith and Lucifer left in Charlie’s life - and Charlie appreciates it more than you know, though it doesn’t stop her from missing her other parents.
