Better Than Expected
Chapter 15
WARNING: Brief mentioning of miscarriage
The movement of the warriors caused by the capture of an unusual prisoner caught the attention of the leader of the Ashe People and, without delay, she went to the place where the prisoner was being kept. The surprise between the two was mutual, however, Varang tried to leave it behind, assuming her chief posture and taking charge of the situation.
The boy was clearly startled by her detached gaze, however, he quickly adopted a rebellious and impulsive posture, willing even to expose his teeth in a snarl. Seeing that the leader was clearly pregnant shouldn't have impressed him that much, as it wasn't the first time he'd seen something like this.
For a brief moment, Varang's memories took her back to the images she had seen of the boy through Miles's mind. Knowing exactly who he was, she decided how to deal with him.
-Let him go, I'll deal with him - she ordered and her soldiers obeyed her.
Even confused and scared, Spider followed her, not letting his guard down.
Along the way, a series of things crossed her mind, whether it would be better to tell Miles that the boy was there, or tell Spider himself that she already knew him, in a way, and that she was his stepmother.
However, Varang didn't have much choice when Miles was already in their hut.
-I hope that… - he was saying when he realized who was accompanying her - it can't be…
-Quaritch! - Spider exclaimed, in a mixture of anger, fear and defensiveness, it quickly crossed his mind that it would be stupid to face him, confront him or try to run away.
-How did you get here? What happened? - Miles approached him, clearly worried.
-Do you care about that? - the boy opted for the defensive attitude, even crossing his arms, completely mad and impatient.
-It's not a good choice to play this game - his father advised, gladly - it's okay, I can give you some time, sit down and calm down.
-Can I do that here? Am I not your prisoner? - he snapped.
-Let's say you're in our custody - Varang decided to intervene, thinking it was a good time for it - I'm Varang, leader of the ash clan.
-With all due respect ma'am, are you protecting me because of him? - Spider replied, his tone much more cautious this time.
-In part yes, but in another part, because I know you, Miles Socorro - Varang addressed him, risking a few steps closer - or should I say, Spider.
-Did he tell you about me? - curiosity ended up instigating the boy.
-Ah yes, but only after we shared our mental visions - she clarified - that's where I first saw you, in your father's memories.
-Why would they share their memories? - Upon hearing that, he made a typical teenage face of disgust.
-You have many questions, boy, but I have many others, as it is in our house, I would like you to answer - Miles imposed, standing in front of Spider in an intimidating way.
-Calm down, my beloved, treat the boy with more patience - Varang touched his shoulder, making him step back a little.
From the affectionate way she called Quaritch, Spider really gave up on all questions.
-What were you doing when you were captured by my warriors? - Varang questioned him again, in a much kinder and smoother tone.
"I was on patrol with the Metakayina, I got lost from the rest of the group, trying to find another route," he muttered, against his will.
-Okay, that's enough answers for me - she was satisfied with his statement - I can find my own ways to find out more, if I need to, and speaking of needing, I believe you need some time, Spider. Feel free to be my guest, not my prisoner.
With a suspicious smile, Varang left them alone and, despite Miles' frustration, he realized right away what she wanted. A frank and necessary conversation between the two. Being honest with himself, Miles knew this was what he needed too. So he took a deep breath and decided to move on.
-How did you get that? -Spider dared to ask, before his father could formulate any sentence.
-What are you referring to? Me surviving without you or marrying the chief of the tribe? - Miles countered, a little less bitter.
-Both - the boy replied.
-Varang - his father said simply - the warriors found me and took me to her, she had a vague idea of what I was, thought I would be a good ally in this conflict between the na'vi, so she secured the alliance with a proposal wedding.
-And you took advantage of the situation - Spider laughed sarcastically.
-I accepted it to save my life, in the beginning, but believe it or not, I fell in love with her, I really love her - declared the oldest, undoing his emotional ties little by little, getting to sit on the floor and stay more than Spider's height.
There was something different and sincere in Miles' statement, which for a single instant, almost moved the boy.
"And so you've been living like a native ever since," he found out - the life you so despised.
-I know, I'm guilty of all this, but I think I've been punished enough - Miles raised his hands in surrender - I died twice, and lost a son.
-I'm here, aren't I? - Spider extended his arms, in a position of clear attack.
-No, I'm not talking about you - he shook his head, feeling a little confused - I mean, I lost you somehow, I wasted the time we had together, I threw it all away for a cause that today I consider lost and meaningless to me, but it wasn't you I remembered when I said that.
-So what are you talking about? - the boy became more attentive, sensitive to what was to come.
-Varang lost a child before, it was my child too, your… sibling who couldn't be born - his father explained - I believe that was enough punishment from Eywa, because I deserved it.
-It means that… the child that Varang is expecting is yours - Spider confirmed.
-That's right, it's your sibliing - Miles nodded.
"I'm so sorry for your loss," he said, understanding the grief.
-Thank you, but I thank you even more for listening - his father replied - you know, I… I told Varang once that if I had another opportunity to be a good father to you I would be, I wouldn't waste it, but I know this one choice is yours. If you want to stay here, you can have a home, you can have a family…although I know you have a family with the Sullys.
-Things weren't always so easy with the Sullys, mostly because of you - the boy commented, showing a little more of his hurt.
-I understand, the me of the past and the me of this body did a lot of harm to many people, but believe me, I have changed and I am willing to fix things with you, really - Miles declared, with regret.
Once again, Spider found himself moved by the former colonel's plight. The only remnant of his former self he could recognize now was the look of tenderness when he called him son, when Spider decided to abandon him. The way Varang had treated him and the whole story, as absurd as it seemed, given the evidence before his eyes, it all seemed to fit together and make some sense in Spider's mind.
-I'll have to think about your case - decided the boy, with a lot to consider.
-It's better than a definitive no, or a middle finger - Miles opined.
The comment elicited a spontaneous laugh from Spider, which seemed like a sign of hope for his father.

Okay but the fact that the Ash clans in the comics take in outcasts means that many members definitely do not like the other clans especially those where they got exiled from.
I feel like that's why they're going to be antagonistic in A3.
But the outcasts doesn't always mean bad. Like Payakan. I do believe Payakan was an early example of why one can get outcasted and that A3 will really dive into that.
The RDA could definitely use the Ash clans hate for the other clans to their advantage. And Quaritch is the one who negotiates with them.
Damn i can imagine the manipulation.

Quaritch is gonna join the Ash people clan; here’s my proof.
Don’t you think it’s just perfect that Recom Miles Quaritch, a product of Project phoenix, would join/ally with the Fire Na’vi of the ash clans.
Literally named after the creature that sets itself on fire, that dies, in order to be reborn from the ashes!
I don’t know about you but that seems a wee bit too intentional.

Aged Up: after everyone learned Spider saved Quaritch (who goes on to lead the ash tribes) and kick Spider out as a traitor, but Spider joins the ash tribe as Tsahik, and comes back years later to help the other tribes when they beg for the Ash clans help. Whom ever is paired in this ship, Mets the ash Na’vi that Varang wants to Spider to mate with.
I just love the idea of this with any of the pairs, Aocorro, Locorro or Nocorro.
Ok, I love this one and funny enough I was currently writing a Locorro/Aocorro story aged up future fic with Spider as a (very, very badass) Dragonborn/Mother of Dragons and FUNNY enough too they were actually based on red-skinned Na'vi (were you in my head?!) (I'm not kidding I'm 10 pages into this already!)
However, it was kind of dark (honestly, I based it on Game of Thrones so Spider is not having a good time at the beginning then he becomes basically a God leading all the Na'vi tribes against the human cities and Lo'ak and Aonung live alone to serve him)
But based on this ask, here's how it goes:
After Spider is kicked out, he struggles to survive alone in the wild and after weeks of surviving on his own, he's found by red-skinned Na'vi
At first, they're really not friendly and more or less happy stuff happen to Spider with the clan before they discover he has a gift and strange connection to Ewya when saving Varang from near death and Spider becomes one of their own, his strange humanity/power making him unique and very respected
Time skip - rumors start running of a powerful Tsahik rising in the south
When things start getting complicated with the Sky People, Jake and Tonowari have no choice but to ask for their help and the help of their powerful Tsahik
Varang accepts on the condition that their fiercest warrior mates with the tsahik
Everyone agrees even if Lo'ak is a little reluctant at being mated by "force" with some girl he doesn't know (or so he thinks) - he never bounded with Tsireya because he actually doesn't like girls but has yet to accept it
And then a few days later, the delegation of the Ash tribe arrives with the Tsahik and surprise, surprise!! It's actually Spider, older, super beautiful and Lo'ak is very, very confused because that's his bro and at the same time, it's not and damn, he's supposed to mate with his bro?!!!
Aonung finds his confusion funny and proposes to do the mating himself because he's really, really ok with this and Lo'ak glares at him
Spider has changed a lot, he's still much smaller, but he has an aura of power that keeps everyone frozen on their spot and he's very confident
Everyone is shocked, Neytiri doesn't know what to think, she's both lost between compulsory respect and disgust because a human cannot be a Tsahik, Jake is completely taken aback by Spider's apparition, Aonung is instantly smitten and Lo'ak realizes that he's actually been in love with Spider his entire life
This isn't exactly your prompt, but here's an extract of the story I was writing similar to your plot:
After Spider disappeared, all those years ago, he thought he’d never see him again. He thought him dead and he mourned him deeply. In silence. He wasn’t even aware of the true nature of his feelings for the boy back then. His brother. How this makes him laugh now! Spider was never a brother. But it took him years to realize it.
He did hear the rumors and the formidable tales of a growing power in the south, far, far from their village. He heard the rumors of the Dragonborn and the mighty warrior who bounded with the Chief of the tribe and gave birth to the Dragons World.
But like many, he thought this was a Na’vi woman and from the sanctity of his life with the Metkianya people, he paid it no heed.
Then, this mighty warrior, this mother of Dragons was said to be a human. He was intrigued but there was no interest piqued.
Anonung left to find this warrior, this human who he wanted to meet and challenge.
And finally, the rumor made this human a man and Lo’ak’s interest was piqued. Not to mention that Aonung never returned from his encounter with this human he wanted to best and conquer.
When he finally realized that this God - arose Khaleesi - was his dear, long gone Spider. He was shocked at first - his mother was furious, she hated him and all humans after Neteyam’s death - but he knew he had to join him and see for himself who this Khaleesi really was - if it really was his Spider. He rode day and night on his Ikran to Merene where the Dragonborn was said to have built the beginning of a Kingdom.
He had expected many things upon this first reunion, anticipated emotions and looks based on his now feeble memory of what the boy was like. But nothing could have prepared him for the absolute perfection that was the Dragonborn. And he pledged himself to him on the day of their reunion and for the days to come.
He wasn’t the only one who lived only to adore him. Aonung had long lost himself to a passion he could never quell. And Lo’ak remembered the rumors that did portray Khaleessi with a beauty that could not be resisted. He had seduced the dangerous Chief of the most primitive Na’vi tribe after all. And from their union, three dragons were born. A miraculous birth. A prophecy fulfilled.
His feelings for Spider were already strong. But when he saw him in his glory on that Throne, he felt his soul sip from the pores of his skin and air leave his lungs. It was more than physical perfection. It was an aura of absolute Power. A beauty and a strength that transcended everything.

My predictions for Avatar 3
So I hav some plot ideas in my head for what’s gonna happen in avatar 3 based on theories and sneak peaks we got.
So we all know that Quaritch and the RDA are gonna team up with the Ash Clan so things are gonna go down.
And we know that Spider is gonna have a very important role, definitely after the whole bonding with Quaritch then leaving him and is definitely now living with the Sully’s, he’s gonna be caught in some conflict, as in found family conflict.
Like Quaritch would want to have his father and son like relationship with Spider again, and Jake is probably gonna treat Spider like an equal but Spider might not be accepting of that since, well, he was neglected by him, did not really give a fuck about him, like when he got captured he didn’t worry about him, he only worried if he was gonna spill any information (which he would never do), and in the comics he upright told him to turn himself over to the RDA cause he couldn’t keep up while they were being shot at, he didn’t think about whether he was gonna live or not by turning himself in, and before that when Spider was gonna leave his “foster family” when the RDA returned Jake let his family take him when he didn’t want to and when Kiri wanted Spider stay with him. So Spider ain’t gonna see Jake as a possible father figure no more.
Anyway, also from a spoilers image it seems he’ll go threw some body horror kind of thing with the help of Kiri, cause we see him having a kuru, so maybe he might not get an avatar, but maybe he’ll be some hybrid na’vi kind of thing probably towards the end of the movie.
Now for theories on the Ash Clan, we know fire is gonna symbolic for them, and they are not gonna be nice, and we already know there leader Varang, we don’t know Nah other Ash Clan na’vi characters, but I’m thinking there are gonna be some na’vi who will be by Varang’s side. I’m also thinking that maybe, just maybe, cause it’s a bit of a clique, that at least one Ash Clan na’vi will not like what is happening or realize what there doing is wrong so they’ll switch sides and help out the good guys. I’m thinking this na’vi might be around the same age as the kids or an adult who might be a warrior or smt.
And we’re also gonna be introduced to new biomes and na’vi who have adapted to those biomes, not just the Ash na’vi but also desert na’vi who are known as the “wind traders” who will most likely be a nomadic kind of clan that go around and trade. We have already seen a nomadic clans in the avatar franchise, such as the Sarentu and Zeswa in Frontiers of Pandora.
So I’m thinking the desert na’vi will have a darker skin tone, like dark blue/purple, and will have strips that will resemble big cats that live out in a desert, and this will be a uncommon idea but I’m thinking they’ll have eyelashes similar to a camel, so just listen, camels have long eyelashes to protect them from sand, so the desert na’vi might have adapted to have that same ability.
I also like to think they’ll have this clothing were they cover there heads to also protect from sand (since maybe the eyelashes might not be so long and aren’t as resilient in a sand storm) and have lose clothes to be able to move fast and stay cool in the hot environment. The clothes might be beige with an away of color patterns.
And for getting around I’m thinking they have these windsurfing boards/boats since they are called the windtraders they might use wind and possibly sandstorms to there advantage, so they might be like the Sandbenders from Atla and the Fremen from Dune. And like the Zeswa I’m thinking they’ll have this bind with a giant creature that helps carry there stuff as they travel, like something of a Bantha form Star Wars but even bigger, and maybe some predator that lives in the sand (like a sad worm) and the desert na’vi use some tool to attract it (like from Dune).
And we’re getting introduced to a new Na’vi character, Peylak, we have no idea what his roles gonna be but from the only image we have it seems he’s a good guy, and I’m thinking he’ll be a desert na’vi or maybe Ash clan, or Metkayina, we’ll have to wait and see.
And another new biome we’ll be introduced to is Pandoras arctic biome, ice na’vi will come into the picture. We don’t know when they’ll be seen but I hope it’s soon.
My theory for what they’ll look like it is some pale skin maybe, not white like those AI images, but more like a pale like blue, or I’ve seen some art with them with purple skin that is cool and they might have that, or a combination of the both. And they’ll wear more covered clothing to protect them from the cold, but they might not wear much because they might of adapted to resist the cold. The clothes will most definitely be similar to Artic Indigenous people clothing, or be like people from the ice age maybe.
The animals that might appear I igumane would be these woolly mammoth type creatures they’ll use to get around and penguin like creatures that have two sets of flippers.
Lo’ak has been confirmed to be the next narrator at the beginning of the movie and the movie might focus on him, so we get to see him how he is now after Neteyam’s death, and will see his relationship with Tsireya play out more. He might get some kind of character growth of some kind.
Now for the movies plot, I’m thinking it will be like this:
Lo’ak narrates what has happened after the events of The Way of Water, we see scenes of moments that play through of what happened, like maybe the Metkayina joining Jakes resistance, Ao’nung’s tattoo ceremony, Ronal’s baby birth/first breath, Spider adapting to the Metkayina tribe.
Then maybe it will skip to Quaritch and Lyle back at Bridehead or some part of Pandora, if at Bridgehead they might one in some real trouble with Ardmor after not only getting Jake, but also loosing a Seadragon and their whole recom team. If it’s some part of Pandora, it’s probably cause they have no idea what to do and this might be the moment they might discovered the Ash Clan.
Then cut back to the Sully’s maybe there planning on what might happen and how to defend the oceans now.
Then some other stuff happens, and maybe some scene with Spider and Kiri, then some Metkayina from another clan rush to tell Jake that some new threat is here which would be the Ash na’vi and he decides to investigate, Lo’ak and Spider maybe come along and possibly Kiri and Tuk just tags along.
Then the investigation leads to the Ash na’vi taking Kiri, Lo’ak and Tuk maybe as hostages, and Jake and Spider find Quaritch and Lyle and they might have some awkward child custody moment with Spider then they decided a short truce just to get Jake’s kids back.
Then it results in them getting capture then Quaritch and Lyle joining the Ash Clan and Lo’ak gets rescued by Jake and Spider, but Kiri and Tuk are still held as hostages then the movie escalated with a big battle or smt at the end.
Idk, but maybe Jake finding Quaritch in the woods might not happen, instead he might have already joined the Ash Clan.
Anyway that’s all I got for this, this entirely small essay, yea 😅

As much as I love clan lore and the peaceful clans weaving and storytelling, I am getting thirsty for the ash clan na’vi and Varang. The clan that tames Thanators.. the Metkayina going to war with the sky people after the events of atwow… the Sully’s revenge. Idk. I want angst. My nerdy senses are tingling… I need to channel all of that into a new chapter for my So’lek series.

Ok, I kinda have a really out there prompt idea. It’s legit been in my head for so long. So it’s Spider-centric, I’ve read somewhere prompts where he is he gets yelled at or hurt and somehow ends up lost and caught up in a storm. He ends up in another tribe, most likely the Metka’yina and lives a new and better life.
Buuuuttt (here’s where my mind comes in) what if Spider is found by none other than the Ash Na’vi? Spider is found by them on an island or washed up on shore. Of course the Ash People immediately want to end the meek sky person’s life, I see them being pretty ruthless and deadly, but then the leader (Varang if I’m correct) sees an opportunity. Spider, so young and hurt, simply wants to be one of The People and have someone who truly cares for him. Varang, sees that, and so gives him that, at least somewhat.
Now a young Spider becomes trained by the dreaded clan of ruthless warriors, barely surviving the rigorous test but never giving up all for the hopes of finally being seen. And he really does keep up, fueled by his drive to belong and his tenacity. Combined with Varang’s brainwashing, Spider comes out as a deadly and formidable foe, one of the Ash People. Barely a shred of innocence and kindness remains, only the sense of duty and drive to fulfill the wishes of his stand-in mother (Varang).
So time goes on, and the Sully’s have established themselves in Awatlu. But instead of humans attacking, the since-dormant Ash People do. And it is in all the fighting where the Sully’s seem to notice a rather short Na’vi, wielding two short dual blades and donning a wrap around his entire face, but appearing to be coated in a layer of gray paint and dark stripes all over his body. What’s worse is all the scars and marks he has, like an experienced soldier. He falls in a large battle with the Metka’yina tribe, and it is when he is tied and captured when they realize who the masked warrior is. He doesn’t speak at all but they identify the ‘Na’vi’ the one who felled numerous warriors even at disadvantage, as their long lost friend and ‘brother’. But when they begin to try to connect to him again, they find so little remains of their best friend now. All the members of the family, even Neytiri and others try to bring back the sweet boy that once existed. But they find it shockingly difficult, for all that seems to remain is the warrior of the Ash People, Yo’ (“be perfect, flawless” according to the dictionary). But there possibly seems a shred of hope when the metaphorical mask begins to crack.
So sorry bout all this but I’ve had this idea for a while and wanted to share it 😅 Quote a few holes in the story but I like the idea of Spider becoming somewhat ‘different’ per say, and the Sully’s reconciling over the last when they see what happens to a supposed brother and son. A sort of ‘what have we done’ with a ‘what has he become’ kind of thing. But Spider angst to Spider love is all I crave.
Ash Spider AU
Oh my goodness, I want this story in my life so much!
I have so many ideas rattling around in my head for this story. It really could start similar to Storms of the Past, with Neytiri freaking out and throwing Spider out. But instead of the kids going after him and comforting him they are stopped, told Spider will be fine and to give him time.
Maybe Spider got lost, he was so upset he wasn't paying attention and before he knew it...
Night hits and Spider is still lost but now he is also surrounded by nocturnal predators, hungry ones. I'm picturing something similar to Jake and the Palulukan from the first Avatar. Not a Palulukan chasing Spider but a similar 'flee for your life' moment with a smaller predator. Difference is where Jake made the choice to jump Spider didn't see the cliff and ended up falling.
Norm and Max back at base finally realise Spider is missing and start looking for him. They call Jake where they find out Spider had left HOURS before. He should have been back to Hell's Gate before noon but never turned up.
The scientists and a few Na'vi start looking for the kid, only a few Na'vi because of who Spider was. Despite looking for days they never find him.
This idea also gives me a lot of ideas about the Ash Clan. Where they would live, their culture, how much the volcano is a part of their lives, etc... I've always pictured them in a coastal area, whether an island or not I'm not sure yet. Either way I've always pictured something similar to this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is always lava flowing into the ocean, always smoke and ash billowing from the volcano. Big erruptions are rare but the Ash People know what to do, how to handle them so it isn't a big deal.
Even with the threat of the volcano hanging over their heads the Ash People will not leave. Their island is bountiful, plants and other life flourish there thanks to the volcano and the nutrient rich soil.
I really want to write this story but won't start it until I finish one of my other WIPs. Two on going stories is enough at one time. If anyone has thoughts or ideas I would love to hear them. I want to brainstorm this idea and try to get an outline going so when it is time to write I can.

A change of heart
Tumblr media
Miles "Spider" Soccoro x Ash Na'vi! reader
Summary- you never thought you'd fall in love, let alone with a demon
Warnings- none really
-
You still couldn't grasp why your mother let the demons live. They were fakes and destroyed the volcanic territory long ago.
And it seemed the one who is called Quaritch has entranced your mother. You hated seeing the stares they shared as they spoke with each other, it was sickening.
"I do not understand mothers change of heart." You tell your brother, twin brother, Exo. A rare occurrence on Pandora.
"She's in love." He teases and you roll your eyes. "You'll know how it feels soon."
"Whatever, you just say that because Akela accepted your courting."
"And you're just mad Osa didn't accept yours." He said and gave you a triumphant smile.
"Watch how you speak to your future Ole'keyte." You say and punch him gently in the shoulder.
"And you watch how you speak to your future Tshaik." He says and smirks.
"Whatever, let us just get this patrol done and get back home."
-
It was very uneventful. No Na'vi or human usually crosses into the fire lands and that was the main lookout.
"We should start heading back." You say and urge your brother to leave.
"Agreed, nothing has happened." You trudge through the old fallen tree branches and rubble left behind from the countless battles. Then a crunch of the ground came from the side. It came from neither you nor your brother.
"There is someone here," Exo says and you roll your amber eyes. You signal him to circle around before you pulled back the bowstring and arrow. Your brother disappeared instantly as you were left in the open.
It wasn't long until you heard grunts and screams. Your brother came out holding a Na'vi girl by her wrists and hair.
"Let me go you skxawng." She seethes while writing around. You bent down in front of her and grabbed her face, inspecting her.
"Ahh an Omaticaya girl, you are very far from home aye?" She hissed at you and tried to lunge as well but you grabbed her wrist. Her hand caught your eyes. "She has demon blood."
Exo shoved the girl to the ground and stepped back in disgust.
"We should kill her now."
"Agreed, do it with a knife." You instruct him and he nods.
"W-Wait please don't." She whimpered and tried reaching out for you.
"Quiet!"
"My father is Toruk Makto!" She yells making you both stop. "If you kill me what does that mean for your clan?"
"She speaks the truth." You shook your head and put down your knife.
"Let's bring her back, let Mother decide." You say and start to walk away. Exo grabbed the girl and roughly pulled her up to her feet.
"Or more what Quaritch will say." You say rolling your eyes.
"Quaritch!?" The girl exclaims and starts to struggle. "He destroyed my home, killed my brother. Please you cannot let him see me here, it would put my family in danger." You frowned, stopped, and turned to her. But before you could say anything the rumbling of hooves hitting the grounds stopped you. You looked behind you to see the Na'vi warriors riding and holding torches. Your mother was right in the front, she hopped off her mount and ran to you and Exo. Another warrior close behind to grab the girl.
"Are you two okay?"
"Yes sa'nok. We found an Omaticaya girl."
"Yes, other scouts in the area informed me once they saw her."
"She is- She says she is Toruk Makto's daughter," Exo says and the na'vi around you gasp in shock. Suddenly Quaritch shoved through everyone.
"I heard Toruk Makto." He says with a terrible Na'vi accent, it sounded like mockery.
"This girl is supposed to be his daughter," Varang says and points at the hostage. Quaritch looks at the girl before smiling.
"And she is. Hello Kiri Sully, how's the family?" She tried to lunge at him but her restraints were too strong.
"Why is she down here?" Exo asks.
"Probably left the safety of the water clans." You perked up at that, you've always wanted to go see them.
"We should take her back and decide what to do with her." That seemed to settle well with everyone, nobody wanted a war against Toruk Makto. They hoisted Kiri up and started to walk. Quaritch tried to reason with Varang that if she was here, the others wouldn't be far so the time to act was now.
As you reached the village suddenly a tawtute jumped out from the bushes. You reacted quickly instantly having him on the ground.
"WAIT WAIT!" He yells and holds his hands out. "Don't hurt her, please let her go." Your knife pressed against his neck, just at an angle where it wouldn't cut. "Take me."
"Who are you?" You ask and hiss at him.
"My name is Spider and you're holding my friend hostage."
"Spider!" Kiri wails and his attention goes to her.
"Mother," Exo calls, and she huffs, clearly stressed about the whole ordeal. "This is the start of an attack."
"Why did we stop?" Quaritch shoved past the na'vi until he settled on the sight. "Miles?" Everyone looked down at the demon under you, he groaned and rolled his eyes. "Let him go, that's my son."
"You do not give orders here demon."
"You better back up from my son." He says and draws his own knife which causes an outcry. People running and hissing at the man to keep him back. Your mother raised her hand, silencing everyone.
"Y/n let the boy go." Your deep amber eyes widened and your jaw slacked. You then looked at the boy under you, he had a sly smirk on his face. You huffed and stood up, he scrambled to his feet and nodded his head slightly at you but you just glared. In your glaring, you noticed he was tall, taller than the average human. He had blue stripes on his skin and he had a small tattoo wrapped around his left arm. His hair though, it was a color you haven't seen
"Mother." You hiss and get close to her. "This man." You point to Quaritch. "Is changing how you think and it isn't safe for the people."
"Maite we do not kill the children."
"That is no child." You point at the human.
"Enough. We take them both." She says and you groan. Quaritch walks to Spider with open arms and engulfs him in a hug. Spider struggled before shoving the man with a glare.

The two newcomers were thrown into cells.
"You will watch over Miles' boy." Your mother says. "The omaticaya girl stays."
"Oh, he is Miles now."
"I do not like this attitude Y/n."
"I am the next Ole'keyte mother, not a babysitter."
"Yes you are to be but while I am the Ole'keyte you listen to me." Your ears are pinned to your head and your jaw tightened. "Tomorrow you are taking the boy out." With that, she left you there in the cells. You side-eyed the two as they talked, looking over each other for injuries while holding hands.

Part 2 is being written now and there will be more spider and y/n

What do you think about Varang, the Ash Clans of Acatar 3? If you can, do you have any predictions on what you think Varang will be like, her relationship with Quaritch - we know for sure from spoilers that they will make some contact as well as if they will mirror a darker side to Jeytiri, and what the culture of the Ash Clans will be like - we just know they’re more hostile than the other clans
Can’t wait for the next chapter!
Hey this a great question and I wish I knew! In fact, my anticipation for the Quaritch dynamic with the Ash People is one of the biggest factors in me writing my story. What's funny is that I was not aware of like leaks and stuff for Avatar 3 or even Varang's name. I only knew based on what Jon Landau shared that there would be "Ash Na'vi," that their elemental symbolism was fire, and that they would represent a "darker" side to Na'vi.
With this information (and being catastrophically down bad for Quaritch lol 😅), in early January I started crafting my own version of the Ash People and created our beloved Zu as a "Varang" stand-in. So in a way my story IS an embellished version of what I think could possibly happen/is at least plausible at a broad theme level (particularly in the earlier chapters). Now for Avatar 3 whether or not the Ash People will have any positive rapport with the RDA is uncertain. However, I think it could be very possible given that it's near certain Quaritch will be working with them, but I imagine he'd keep his loyalty to the RDA for a good bit of time (at least two more movies worth--much longer than I depict in my story).
I also do think the Ash Na'vi in Avatar 3 will potentially exploit Pandora a bit more than what we've seen other Na'vi do. The reason for this is just based on who James Cameron depicts as villains in Avatar. He is very explicit that the bad guy thing in Avatar is exploitation and destruction of nature (and colonization). So I would expect the Ash Na'vi to keep with this theme. And such matches their associated symbolic element of fire-- which burns and was necessary to the industrial revolution. Probably not to an extreme extent, they are still Na'vi, but... it would make sense. This is why I depicted my Ash Na'vi as embracing of human technology and a little more environmentally destructive than other Na'vi. But we'll see!
I have no idea what Quaritch and Varang's dynamic/relationship will be like to be honest, and I think many people (myself included) are making a lot of assumptions that may or may not hold true in the end. But it's just fun speculation! The Quaritch fan in me ships them *very* hard haha as, yes, kind of like this anti-Jeytiri. Na'vi but dark compared to what we have seen. There is an interview Stephen Lang saying:
"Hope doesn't exist without despair. Eden doesn't exist without the serpent. Quaritch is a necessity, he becomes part of the fabric of Pandora, even if it's to test it."
So that vibes with the idea that he's this dark antithesis. In particular, Jake's anti as it seems Cameron has presented him in Way of Water with his uncanny parallels. Regarding a relationship with an "anti-Neytiri" which may be what Varang is, there are set and cast photos of Stephen Lang and Varang's Actress Oona Chaplin looking close and friendly, but eh that could mean SO many things!
Beyond my just liking Quaritch, I personally think it would be super cool and make sense to the story-- I'd love to see Varang help Quaritch come to embrace being a Na'vi and Pandora, but in a dark way, the way Neytiri did for Jake. Because then you also have the unique influence of Spider who will clearly be some helping hand for multiple characters in the films (Socorro means "help" or "aid). Of course, some people don't want this and think it'd be a cheap knock-off of Jake and Neytiri and could make things too messy for Quaritch's as a character given that Spider is already his primary relationship, and I can fully respect that! But James Cameron cooks.
Naturally, I'm just along for James Cameron's Avatar ride. Whatever direction he takes Quaritch (If Quaritch doesn't get a hot bad bitch Ash Na'vi girl in the end or just flat out dies, I still have my story lmao)
I was kind of bummed about the leaks at first because it felt like they took the wind out of my story's sails where it was existing in, at that point, an uncertain Avatar future. Some of the Avatar 3 script leaks even had dialogue that was freakishly close to some I'd written. But ultimately, this kind of worked out so that my stories would just be a reasonable alt-universe from the get-go. Though, I wouldn't be at all surprised if my story has genuine similarities with how some things go down since I think Avatar 2 has done a good job of broadcasting some overt aspects of Avatar 3 (in a good way!) and I worked hard to be keen on them. Many writers have! Anyway, this last paragraph is a tangent.
Sorry for the long answer! Next chapter of Happiness is Simple is up by the way! 💙

I absolutely loved this beautiful Avatar Fanart of the Quarang ship of the characters Miles Quaritch and Varang together and above all because I really love the clothes they have in it above all because I love the way Varang has a hand on his chest while he has his other hand on Quaritch's waist but above all because I absolutely love the fact that Quaritch has a pen and the clothes of the style of the Na'vi Ash Clan and I must honestly say that I really want to see that in Avatar 3 we see Quaritch and Varang together and because I really wanted to see that Quaritch and Varang spend a lot of time together and that we also see them begin to fall in love and that then we finally see them become a beautiful Canon of the Avatar 3 movie
Tumblr media
By the way, this beautiful Avatar fanart of them is not mine and the credits are not for me but I warn you that right here I am going to leave you the link of the true creator of this beautiful masterpiece on Twitter

Avatar 3 - Varang, design based on my own idea of what the ash people will look like.
Tumblr media
She will be played by Oona Chaplin, so I based Varang’s features off of hers heavily.
Also, this is just speculation, but my gut feeling is that Varang will be Recom Miles Quaritch’s love interest going forward as well. Since Miles’ journey is supposed to be a dark mirror to Jake’s story. And she is reportedly going to be in the rest of the films going forward along with Quaritch as antagonists.
Additional fact: Fire Na’vi Ears
The fire Na’vi/ Ash people possess the largest ears of the Na’vi despite their cold-temperate environment. These ears have evolved as highly sensitive sensory organs that detect changes in air pressure and temperature as well as being particularly good at hearing infrasound frequencies, all of these adaptations are to help them avoid the dangers of their volcanic home. Due to these specialised adaptations these ears also have more muscles for fine motor control that exceeds what is typical of Na’vi biology.
These ears do have an additional trait, as temperatures can fluctuate wildly from freezing winters & temperate summers to boiling hot lava flows their ears are able to expand and contract, decreasing or increasing the surface area exposed to air that helps regulate and monitor body temp. When in severe cold the ears fold over (imagine folding a piece of paper - landscape) and muscles contract to pull the ears closer to the head where they are often tucked under hair or a hat. This does reduce their ability to sense their surrounding and dampens their hearing but such an extreme bodily reaction are usually reserved for especially harsh conditions.
Edit* it appears as though this text Disappeared on me?!
The Fire Na’vi live in a cold to temperate climate (ranging from north Mediterranean to Icelandic temperatures) with excessive volcanic activity causing wild fluctuations in localised temperatures.
Because of this their ears have evolved into highly sensitive atmospheric sensors that can detect minute changes in air pressure and temperature, that can also expand and contract depending on the atmosphere to regulate body temperature.
Their large ear size being a side affect of their increased range of infrasound detection (low frequency sounds) that allows them to monitor and predict the seismic activity in the region, the advantage of the increased hearing range outweighing the negatives of having large ears in a cold climate. Though the ears can shrink and fold on themselves as a way to combat excessively low temperatures preventing heat loss, this is also why the ash clans enjoy their hair longer & looser than most Na’vi as they regularly tuck their ears into their hair when the cold season becomes particularly harsh.

Avatar brainrot for remaining three sequels... (RAMBLINGS + THEORIES)
*Disclaimer: some of these opinions/theories are based on my opinion on natural story progression, some are just my wishes and hopes. I just have to let it out somewhere because my brain won't stop giving me these thoughts!
**Disclaimer 2: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS
I've seen first Avatar when it came out back in 2009 (I was 12) and am now even more in love with The way of water (though I'm 9 months late with the actual watch). And considering I appreciate the organization and thinking about the entire franchise, here are some things that I THINK MIGHT HAPPEN or that IT'D BE NICE IF THEY HAPPENED in three sequel movies.
Avatar: The Seed Bearer
It'll be revealed Kiri is actually Pandora's "Jesus" (cause she is) and she'll become even more powerful
Lo'ak will be our narrator, but focus will most likely be on Kiri and Spider more than him or they'll share equal amount of attention in movie plot
The plot will continue very shortly after the battle against tulkun hunters and Neteyam's death, maybe a few months later
Fire Na'vi or "Ash people" could be outcasts from other Na'vi clans because of some crimes/taboos they have committed; Varang will probably have some personal vendetta, maybe even against Jake or Omatikaya in general
Quaritch will definitely join forces with Varang and Ash people
Quaritch and Jake custody battle over Spider
Spider will be shown in even more positive light
Lo'ak suffering intense survivor's guilt over Neteyam's demise and his relationship with his family could further deteriorate OR they could become even closer
Neytiri will have some kind of deep internal conflict, tipping her into more morally gray territory
Spider might have a fallout with Sullys after they find out he saved Quaritch from drowning
We could find out that Eywa actually conceived Kiri with Grace's avatar body
More scenes of Neteyam's memories, especially when his siblings need him the most or are unsure about their future endevors which might show us completely different side of Neteyam, one that couldn't be properly flashed out in TWOW
More screen time for Tsireya and Ao'nung (and us possibly seeing their younger sibling that Ronal is currently carrying)
By some strange twist, Spider (and possibly other Sully kids) end up being shipped to Earth
Avatar: The Tulkun Rider
Earth is the main playground this time around
Lo'ak and Spider might share the equal amount of importance in the plot
Finding the way to go back to Pandora
Gaining more human allies
Plot reversal: they learn how it is to live on dying Earth
This time, a bit more time has passed (because cryo-sleep)
WARNING- FAT WISH AND DELUSION WITH THIS ONE: Possibility of Neteyam's resurrection because of avatar program, making him a new body and transferring his memories/consciousness from Eywa to the body; avatar looks, speaks and behaves like Neteyam, but it's not actually Neteyam; Spider might play biggest role in this wishful theory and might finally fall in Neytiri's graces
If Kiri is in the movie, her and Spider deepen their relationship even more
Spider possibly getting his own avatar body
Main battle of the movie is still on Pandora and Payakan makes his return
Quaritch is still ever-present but might also tip over into morally gray
Jake and Neytiri might not be in the movie as much as we're used to
Avatar: The Quest for Eywa
SOME OF THESE ARE ONLY IF MY WISHFUL THEORY REALLY HAPPENS AND NETEYAM IS BACK TO THE WORLD OF THE LIVING
Lo'ak completing his character arc and we see a lot of similarities/mirroring between him and his dad
"It is Neteyam but not original Neteyam", his own inner conflict and finding his place
We might possibly lose either Jake or Neytiri (god forbid both)
Final confirmation and possible marriage of Lo'ak and Tsireya
Big assembly of all previous characters and picking sides
Entire Pandora is now a huge battlefield
Possible big return of Toruk?
Finally making peace with humans
Quaritch finally dead for good
Remember, these are just my wishes. Gotta wait until 2025/2029/2031 to see what'll actually happen.
Also, NETEYAM PLEASE COME BACK!

Someone to be Proud of (Recom Quaritch x Female Human Reader) - Part 10
Please read before interacting.
Tumblr media
Hi, friends. Seriously, thank you so much for your patience on this. I went away for a week in early February to visit schools with my partner. One of my grandparents passed early this month and it's just been a general funky mood all across the board. I ended up psyching myself out for this story. Will it be good enough? What if it doesn't line up with the future story? Is it even worth telling? And honestly, does any of that matter? Good enough is subjective anyway. It doesn't have to line up because that's literally the whole point of fanfiction: making it the way you want because the writers didn't. And any story is worth telling. So, if you're a creator and dealing with impostor syndrome and feeling like nobody wants to see your work, then just remember that someone does. Create your art and share bits of yourself with the world. It's so much more beautiful with you in it.
A shadow fell over you as you sat there with your arm around Spider. Neytiri analyzed you. “Why do you weep for a demon?”
Your mouth popped open as you turned to her, crouching on your knees. “He was more than that to me. He was.. everything. I don’t know who he was before. And I wasn’t prepared for who he became, but in the middle of that when he was reborn.. He was mine. He was.. I thought he was good.”
Neytiri scoffed, looking down her nose at you. “He has always been a demon. He was a demon until he died. He deserved his death.”
Your face tensed as you stood, not daring to look away from her intense eyes. “He did not deserve what he was made into. He had his own choices, but so much was foisted upon him. He could have been so much more if given the chance.”
You felt a tugging at your elbow, Spider pulling you away from the tall woman who had begun to bare her teeth. “He killed my son. He deserved everything he got. You mourn a monster.”
You flinched away, following after Spider. “I know,” you whispered.
~~
The ash people were very literal in their appearance. Their skin a dusky blue, darkened even more by the lines of soot smudged across their cheeks. They looked on curiously, some even hostilely, reaching out to grab Miles’ tail. He whipped, lunging toward them before being yanked back by the Na’vi guiding him. Cruel laughter followed him down the path.
He subtly tested the strength of his bonds and growled in frustration when they didn’t give an inch.
“Be still! You will not be released until she approves.”
Miles stopped his motions and followed sullenly, thinking of all the violent things he’d like to be doing to his guide when they stopped short. A fire was ahead. Many tribe members sat in a circle and ate together, chatting boisterously. Everything halted when Miles appeared at the edge. He was shoved forward and then yanked around the fire. His guide shoved him to his knees.
“The dreamwalker, my Olo'eykte.” They bowed their head in deference and backed away slowly.
The olo’eykte, known as Varang, scrutinized him. Her eyes were sharp as blades, slicing him open to see his mangled soul. The corner of her mouth quirked up. “Welcome, Dreamwalker. It is my first time meeting one of your kind, although the stories are known among all clans of Pandora. I hope we have been gracious hosts so far.” She snorted and popped a small berry into her mouth. Miles worked hard to keep his features smooth. “Ah, no response? Soon enough. Cut him loose.”
“But, my lady-“
“Must I repeat myself? Cut. His. Bonds.”
Reluctantly, the warrior stepped forward and sliced through the vines, nicking Miles’ wrist in the process. He hissed and rubbed his wrists carefully. Varang gestured for him to sit at her feet. She was lounging across a slab of rock, on top of a woven blanket. He carefully sat and with another wave of her hand, a small plate made of stone was thrust into his hands. He eyed the meal curiously. A cackle startled him out of his analysis.
“It won’t bite, Dreamwalker. Eat.”
He bit down through the tough skin, finding a juicy inner core. Upon further inspection, it looked to be the Pandoran version of a lizard. She noticed his quiet inspection and said, “We have many of these creatures around our home. They are hard to catch, but sometimes we happen upon a nest. Delicious!”
He nodded along, taking in her appearance and the guards flanking her. “Pretty good,” he mumbled. “How’s your English so good?”
Her smiled widened. “I have not met a dreamwalker, but some of my clan have. They went away for a time, hovering near the humans and speaking with the Omaticaya, to learn through them. Then, they came back and taught many of us.” Her face hardened. “We know a war is coming. Knowing our enemy’s language can provide an immense advantage for the conflict. You will provide the rest of what we need.”
He jerked back in confusion. “What are you talking about?”
She narrowed her eyes in annoyance. “I am speaking of your knowledge, Dreamwalker. You will share it with us, or face your death.”
He scoffed. “My death? You’re kidding me.”
She growled and gripped the sides of her seat, digging her fingers in as she leaned forward to put her face next to his. “You will not be laughing when the heat boils your body from the inside out, when it tears you apart while you slowly turn into nothing.”
His ears had flattened and his tail flicked in anger.
She noted his reaction and relaxed back. “Also, we have heard tales of a great battle between the great Toruk Macto and the humans. He fought alongside the Metkayina people who defended their Tulkun family. While we care not for them, we have heard rumors of a human boy that clings to Jakesuli and his family. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about him, would you?”
Miles chest heated up and his body rumbled with the threat to Spider.
Varang threw her head back, laughing again. “You are very easy to read, Dreamwalker.”
“I’m not. I’m not a dreamwalker. This is my body and my memories were put in when I was created.”
She looked mildly surprised at the new revelation. “Interesting. But no matter. Your knowledge is still the same.”
“Why in the hell do you even need to know anything? Why not just stay in this place away from everyone and let them fight between themselves?”
Her hand flew forward and hit him upside the head. “Are you stupid? They have not come for us, but your former kind are made of greed. It will never be enough. They will come soon enough. This is our home. Many in our clan have fought and died to keep this land. I will never give it up. Not as long as I live.”
~~~
You had followed Spider to the Sully marui to collect the older batteries for his mask. Sitting quietly on a woven piece outside of the home, you kicked your feet lightly in the water. A head popped out of the water, startling you enough to jump back. It was elongated and followed by two other heads attached to the bodies on the back. Kiri and the youngest Sully, Tuk, burst into a fit of giggles. You huffed playfully and the creature known as an ilu plopped its wet head in your lap, nuzzling against your stomach. Your hands grazed over its slick head and you smiled as it purred.
Tuk reached around Kiri to hand you a fish. You tossed it up in the air and it flopped back to catch it, throwing the girls into the water. They came back up with the ilu circling them and chirping out a laughing sound. They pulled themselves up to where you and Spider were resting. Kiri smiled at you kindly and squeezed your hand. “Thanks for helping me talk to mom. I miss her so much.”
You nodded and patted hers with yours. “I’m sure she loves to hear your voice. When we get back in a few days, I can call so you can talk to her again.”
Kiri’s eyes brightened as she nodded eagerly. You felt a whisper of air right against your ear and turned slowly, coming face to face with Tuk’s bright eyes. With a yelp, you jumped back, leaning into Spider and Kiri. They both cackled and Kiri tried to chastise Tuk amidst the laughter, but couldn’t manage.
Tuk’s face got a bit serious. “Mama says you were friends with the bad man.”
Your heart clenched and you heard Spider start to speak, but you silenced him with a hand on his knee. “I did know the bad man. Yes, we were friends. But then, I saw what he did to you guys. To your family. And now we aren’t friends anymore.” Tears slipped down your cheeks and as you sniffled, you ducked your head.
A hand patted your head softly. “I’m sorry,” Tuk whispered. “I would be sad if I found out my friend wasn’t a nice person.”
You turned to the young child, a veil of darkness hovering behind her eyes. “You are so kind, Tuk.”
Her face was sorrowful and you hesitantly reached out to rub a hand on her shoulder. She slumped against your touch and curled up beside you, putting her head in your lap. You looked closely at the small beads and shells in her hair and she sighed quietly at the gentle touch. Her arms curled around her knees, holding her body tight and your chest ached for the pain of this child. Spider leaned against Kiri and your head rested back against the walkway. A few moments later, you were all asleep, reassured by the touch of another person.
A while later, you were scooped up in someone’s arms. Grumbling you squirmed a bit, but settled when you heard Ka’ani whispering to you. A smile lit his voice as he told you it was time to go back. He lifted you carefully onto his ikran and you were awake long enough to hold on so he could hop up and surround you with his body. You settled in for the long ride back to your new home.
a random ash ppl fic idea or imagination idea
i know how stupid and impossible this sounds and i don’t expect this to be a thing in the slightest in the next avatar movie or movies cus of that but i somehow made this up in my head and thought it would be a decent idea to think abt or a fic plus i want to start sharing my little fantasizes and shit on here since i never have had the chance to do so without feeling awkward before
okay so, the ash na’vi are going to be hostile and aggressive right? in this version, they will, it wont stray that far from that but, this is a simple what if
what if the ash na’vi prefer humans more than other na’vi?
a year before the events of avatar, when the humans arrive, a human teenager by the name of kieran arrives in one of those space shuttles (in my mind, hes 2/3 years older than spider, so hes 17/18 at this time) but somehow, the shuttle crashes. he’s the only one that survived (he had a mask on) and he fell off the plane, and the only reason he didn’t die was because he landed on something soft, but still in all, sustained major injuries.
he is found salyrru, an ash na’vi teenager a year older than spider and the daughter of peylak (i’m using him for reference because he’s closest in age to the two) and while she nearly killed him, she saw something in him that she had never saw in anything or anyone else, curiosity. she had seen uncertainty, terror, anger, sadness, and most other negative feelings but simple, genuine, naive curiosity was something she had never seen before. so, she spared him and took him back to the clan. somehow, they agreed to spare him, the reason being unknown cus i haven’t figured that part out so that’s entirely free to the imagination but i imagine it being like a quaritch thing, except kieran is younger and nicer.
anyway, he lives amongst the ash people for a year and in that year, he thrives and everyone likes him a decent amount, kinda like spider but overall treated better. he ends up having to leave after a year, because he knows he’ll needs a back up mask. salyrru accompanies him, bringing him as far as she knows with her animal (i dont know what to call it but from what im hearing, theres a chance that the ash people will be based off ancient mesoamerican culture so i imagine a kind of Quetzalcoatl based animal, but if anyone has any ideas for something better pls lmk) and from then, which somehow isnt that far from bridgehead city, kieran has to go on his own, telling her to return in 2 days.
2 days pass, and she returns to the spot and waits for him. she waits for hours, undetected because the spot is very hidden. she waits another day and gets worried, which is something she never felt before so it was serious.
she walks around the area, reluctant to leave her spot in fear of being seen by anyone or anything. she is forced to walk further out, not knowing where he could be. she walks for hours, until she eventually finds him, except, not in the condition she expected.
he lays there, dead on the ground. she’s pissed off and very sad, considering that she was the closest to him. she immediately thinks it was another na’vi, considering they werent anywhere near the city, or so she thought. so she returns to the clan, with the news of his passing.
then quaritch comes by and teams up with them. she wasnt there to greet him and isnt informed until she comes back from a hunt. then, kiri, lo’ak, and spider.
she is the one to kidnap them, and nearly kills kiri with her spear until she notices spider. shocked, decides not to at last minute and brings them to varang (quaritch joins later, based off that one leaked photo which idk how tf yall could tell that spider, kiri, and lo’ak there cus they were literal pixles 😭)
they dont get any special treatment, except kinda spider cus he’s human + quaritch’s son but they still treat him better than lo’ak and kiri and salyrru kinda has a bonding moment with spider.
and thats where that imagination ends.
again, i dont see this actually happening especially cus it’s impossible but i think it’d be a cool idea to think about or a nice fic idea.
also if it grts worse at the end its cus i havent put much thought into the end plus im rlly bad at translating my thoughts onto paper or words and wording things 😭
