Vinterland (1992) was a Swedish band originally under the name Grimoires. They recorded 3 demos, 2 in which was never released, the third was sent to No Fashion Records.

They were signed in November 1995 and recorded their debut album “Wings of Sorrow”, which was released in September of 1996.

Vinterland re-released “Wings of Sorrow” again in 2010 but renamed “Welcome my Last Chapter”

Christmas market in Sandnes

I took these photos today when I went to the rented flat for the last time. This is a tiny farewell to Sandnes, which was very nice to me for two years. I moved to Stavanger on Saturday and that will be extremely nice from now on onwards. However, the Winterland in Sandnes is something I really like seeing. I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas, but Chistmas markets and lighting has its own flair, I like it at least.

Here's some swedish christmas songs I think are neat

Some of them aren't originally in swedish, but more like "nordic folk songs that exists in several languages", but still.

The first one is "Tomten, jag vill ha en riktig jul" (Santa, I want to have a real christmas)

Four little boys had a band in the 80s and this was their hit song. It's about how they want an idyllic christmas, a REAL christmas, "the kind you have when you are little". The funniest part is a moment when they just blurt out what they want for christmas and it's the most 80s toys ever. "A flipper game, a radio-controlled car, a DONKEY KONG"

Next is "Vår julskinka har rymt" (Our christmas ham has escaped)

There was a comedy duo impersonating german chefs (back in Sweden in the 70s and 80s, the comedy was very much about different dialects and accents) and this is a fun song about how their christmas ham just somehow escaped from the oven. Also, I found this nightcore version someone did only 2 weeks ago (people really make nightcores out of everything huh). There's a lot of versions without the german accents, but this is the original.

The next is "Tänd ett ljus" (Lit a light)

It's not much to it, it's just about shining a light in the darkness.

And in true school child fashion, instead of singing "låt aldrig hoppet försvinna", you sing "LÅT INTE BRANDKÅREN HINNA, DET ÄR LJUUUUST NU MEN DET BLIR MÖRKARE IGEEEEEEEEEEEN-"

The next one is "Hej mitt vinterland" (Hello my winter land)

As a kid I thought it was about them moving to another country to experience winter, and then I realized it was just a song about snow in general lmao

The next I know exists in norwegian too, but in swedish it's called "Mössens julafton" (The mices christmas)

There is a LOT of different versions of this, but this is the most "swingy". There was a fun music video to this very one, but I can't find anything of it except this small clip in a compilation of different songs they did.

Anyway, it's about a mice family celebrating christmas and how they do it.

Next one is "Mer Jul" (More christmas)

Really trippy music video

It's just about them wanting to experience christmas to the FULLEST and honestly, the music video just explains everything. Lights and santa's everywhere, also a bunch of references to stuff we watch on TV at christmas.

Next one is "Staffan var en stalledräng" (Staffan was a stable-boy) Also "dräng" is translated to "farmer-boy" so like. Yeah. This one exists in multiple versions and the most common one is this one. Often sung at Lucia. But my FAVORITE version of this song is this one, which is way more upbeat:

What is it about? A stable-boy named Staffan who had five horses, two white and two red, and one named Apelgrå which Staffan used to ride on. Then it's just what he did when he was riding away with his horses.

Next one is "Var inte rädd för mörket" (Don't be afraid of the dark)

A lot of swedish christmas/lucia songs are just about litting a light in the darkness, because it's dark outside during christmas lol. I like this version because I as a kid used to mimic her singing.

Of course, there's 1000 more christmas songs, but for now, as a final note, here's a swedish version of Jingle Bells sung by Agnetha from ABBA and her daughter
