do you guys remember really early on when like. brands would pay for reviewers to check out their stuff, or send them free stuff to review. and those people would still give honest reviews because i guess brands werent putting "you have to pretend to be deeply deeply in love with us" in their contracts. and like that was the entire point of those channels is that brands could pay them all they wanted but they had to go into it knowing that if their product was shit they would be getting the Opposite of promotion. and how now youtubers have to say things like "to quote the mandatory ad read, that's why ive partnered with them for so long" to talk around the fact that part of the conditions for them receiving the money is that they can't express anything negative about the company or its products whatsoever. idk
