I'll say that I have been in some fandom with extremely impressive and dedicated artists but consistently some of my favorite artists are ones who technically make 'unimpressive' art to outright loving posting 'low effort' doodles. I love skilled work thats beautiful, but I also deeply admire a freedom from perfectionism and ambition. Sometimes those are just non-complicated but still clearly skilled works, and sometimes thats loving the wobbly simplicity of crude lines vs. rendered beauty. One of my favorite artists back when I was big into Hollow Knight was a korean artist who could absolutely make some extremely beautiful stuff, but many of the pieces I remember most and loved the most looked like this

Even here I know I mentally worked harder to make this imitation than they did for the OG. I can't draw fast and loose, and I like work that is clearly faster and looser than I can do. I envy people who can do things imperfect and carefree. Sometimes thats still very obviously skilled work, sometimes its very stupid doodles that were blatantly done in 30 seconds in mspaint. I don't think its say, disrespectful to love the doodles more than the rendered stuff said artist makes- but my love for it comes from a place that a lot of people wouldn't guess. That is to say, its hard to tell who, why, or when something you make might click with people- and it doesn't take a masterwork for someone to see something in your art as inspiration.

Different Italian anon, but the thing with Tuscan C is that it's pronounced like a very strong H sound, which is extra weird cuz the letter H makes no sound in Italian, normally. It sounds the way Spanish pronounce the J. We say it's "aspirato". So then people from there will say things like Hoha Hola (coca cola), and it's funny. It's also extremely contagious, I got family in Florence, you spend 3 days with them you start doing it too before you even realize.

Something I’ve noticed with non-hispanic people writing Spanish dialogue… it comes off really redundant and awkward when you use “mi” before the word “mijo” or “mija”

“Mijo” and “mija” is a word that comes from combining “mi” and “hijo/hija” which means my son/my daughter/my child. So adding mi before mijo, just sounds like you’re saying my my child.

Keeping this in mind would make your dialogue feel a little smoother imho.

Also as a bonus, its not just direct parents who say this. I’ve been called mija by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even colloquially by older friends. Its a term of endearment for lil kids. *this might only be true for where I’m from though, so take with grain of salt.

Anyways, speaking of those terms, mija and mijo or mije (the gender neutral one) aren’t the only ones you can use for your fanfic or comics.

Cariño, amor, cielo, cielito lindo, bebé, corazón, mi santa (o, e) — just to name a few, if you wanna change it up sometimes. 🕺

Has been something I've kind of very much been missing/yearning for irl I will admit #& from the sound of it the person subletting has the same vibes with her #She says he's 'interesting' and 'I'd like him' #From the combination of her description and the clutter I'm getting eccentric professor vibes #Which is generally a good vibe to me #But I am even more skittish of renting from someone t #Too sociable #After prev landlord #Though I want to trust othet tenant's vibe check. hello, since you know a lot about linguistics (genuine compliment) i was wondering what your analysis of the phrase "[character] is so" (without any word after 'so') as so describe a character that is unusual/eccentric in a way the speaker likes. the adjective deletion feels weird. is there a plausible analysis based on "intentional abrupt end of speech" as a lexeme. please tell me there is.

I don't have a good analysis of this construction off the top of my head, although I can say that explaining it by positing an "abrupt end of sentence" lexeme is probably not the most parsimonious one. It looks to me like perhaps it's a headless adjective phrase, in the same way that something like "the blind" is a headless noun phrase.

#im watching a video about wario land music -> 'the bizarre music and sound design of wario land 4' by geno7 #good video so far! i like this guys stuff. he talked a bit about how they did some of the sound effects for warios voice #a very like. chopped and remixed sample style of doing his vocal lines. which is very cool 1) because it saves a bit of #precious space on that gba cartridge BUT ALSO 2) it just sounds cool and interesting stylistically #and man sometimes trying to keep a file size down really does give way for some really interesting stuff #on my own personal interests in games i ADORE rpg makers rtp and how people can find creative uses for it #i love that a bunch of games can draw from the same asset pool as one install on ur computer #no bloating your hardrive with a bunch of copies of the same assets - its just already here! #and from a developers perspective i love when they reuse old assets from other games in new weird ways #some small visual novel companies will reuse backgrounds and other assets #altho i dont mind a bit of bloat with VNs since a big draw can be the big pretty images and big pretty sounds #but its still cool when people find ways to get creative with space saving. and from a players perspective its also nice #space is cheap nowadays. but its not Free. we can swallow terabytes whole with micro sds and everything #but a lot of players dont get the chance or ability to upgrade their internal memory that often. so i think being considerate of filesize i #very important. and thats not even getting into the download bandwidth limits - a lot of people all across north america can only get like #internet from 1 provider and that 1 provider often likes to upcharge and limit shit because they can #we might live in a future where a lot of powerful technology exists. but access to that tech is another story #so remember the filesize. remember the filesize. #dies in your arms
