Y’know, the Beatles got at least one thing right: “I read the news today, oh boy…”
It’s been “I read the news today, oh boy” for a goodly long while now, huh.

Meta Knight gets a call from near forgotten allies. They're coming to Popstar with no time to prepare for their arrival.
But the Star Allies can take care of everything! Kirby is certain of it.
(A second draft based on this post of mine. The situation is slightly different but basically everything stated in the post can and will happen)

Could I also please request #38, irresistible, for some flavor of separated Dick and Joan (ex. while Joan is on a work trip, letters optional, etc.)? <3 — @shoshiwrites again
Babe, wake up, a new AU just dropped.
(I tried to keep the naughty bits under a cut - inspired by this photograph. @shoshiwrites knows what she did.)
A camera clicks, and she turns towards the sound.
She's used to being photographed, but not - not like this. Not by Dick, who always seems to be able to see straight through her to parts of herself she didn't know were there. And certainly not in bed without a stitch on, either.
Still, there he is, naked as anything with his eye pressed to his camera, his legs wide to brace himself steady. She wishes, for a moment, that her own camera weren't so far away, because he is irresistible to her like this, the long leanness of him, muscles cleanly defined like some new kind of classical nude. Ancient warriors are out - men at work that they love are in.
"Please don't print that," she says, and she's only half begging.
"Oh, that one's just for me," he says, and she knows he means it, but there's still something of the tease in his voice. She reaches, threatening, for the camera, and he holds it just out of reach, making her turn and sprawl herself over him, her arm outstretched.
"Give me that." Its an order now, body pressed to body, breast to breast and hip to hip.
"Kiss me first," he counters, and she's too happy to oblige.
The camera clicks again, and she promises herself that she'll devour him for it.

since I can't give you the world
Heist!Mark x reader | Words: 1,279 | Read on AO3
After a job that goes surprisingly smoothly, Heist!Mark has a gift for his partner in crime.
Despite operating in part within a larger network of criminals, it was rare for you and your heist partner to take on jobs from others, ultimately preferring to work independently. You knew you could trust one another, and freelance work meant the two of you could determine the stakes and carefully plot every point of your plan with space for improvisation if necessary, all without being accountable to anyone. It just suited you better.
On occasion, though, you would take up jobs from higher criminal organisations that could provide you with certain tech or aid in covering your tracks, or from rich clients looking for individuals to do their dirty work.
This heist had been one of those such occasions.
A wealthy tycoon had offered a generous deposit in exchange for the two of you infiltrating the penthouse belonging to the family of a rival business. Your client claimed that the owner of the company had taken some precious jewels from him and his own family's possession in their youth, and it remained mysteriously lost for years until they later had them fashioned into a jewellery set and supposedly tried to pass them off as a family heirloom. He wanted you to steal it back, saying you could take whatever else you wanted to throw any suspicion away from himself.
There was no way you could confirm this story, and usually you wouldn't choose to involve yourselves in something so personal and petty on someone else's behalf, but in addition to the incredible sum of money the client was offering just for accepting the job, this would be a fairly simple heist, with him making all the arrangements for you to get in posed as guests to a soirée held at the target location. The only catch was that you had to figure out your own escape, but with your experience it wasn't much of an issue.
The client had provided you with instructions on where to look for the items (he had refused to disclose the source of this intel, which was probably for the best).
You and Mark were able to get into the lavish event without any problems and even had fun enjoying the party before you made your move, easily slipping away from the hubbub; you made your way to distract the guard on standby so Mark could get past unnoticed.
‘Got it!’ Mark had exclaimed in a proud half-whisper, his voice coming through the earpiece communication device tucked away out of sight behind your hair. ‘And I took some other valuables n’ stuff so it looks like a more general robbery, rather than us being after something specific.’
You kept up your conversational diversion for a couple more minutes, giving Mark the chance to sneak out of the room undetected, before thanking the guard for escorting you thus far and heading on your way.
‘Ah! I think I know where to go from here, thank you ever so much for your help,’ you said in an overly grateful tone that felt far too sweet (but worked wonders). You heard Mark scoff at the other end of the line.
As the two of you slipped out and into the night, the triumph and excitement in the air between you was palpable.
‘Oooh, nice haul!’ you said gleefully, peeking into the bag of loot while Mark drove you both back to base. Meanwhile, the jewellery set for the client sat safely in its own case.
All-in-all, it had turned out to be one of your most successful heists.
Later, you have everything laid out to total up your prizes, still somewhat giddy, like kids counting up arcade tickets to see what they can win.
‘Oh! I almost forgot, I've got something for you,’ Mark says, reaching into the pocket of his suit jacket, which lies over the chair behind him.
Your head perks up with curiosity.
He holds out his hand to you, and in it is an ornate, blue pendant in a teardrop shape, hanging from a delicate gold chain. You can't say for sure what kind of gem or crystal it is, but the cut of the azure stone catches the light in such a way that you can't quite keep your eyes off it. The bail attaching the pendant has a spiralling design embedded in the metal. Overall, it's a beautiful piece.
‘Now, I know it wasn't what we were after but while I was searching the room, I saw it and I can't put my finger on why, but it made me think of you. And it was just sitting around collecting dust, y'know? I just figured, might as well give this to someone who'll actually appreciate it.’
You take the necklace gently from his hands, examining the craftsmanship between your fingers. And you think you might see why it reminded him of you. Well, not really, more like you feel it — a vague sense of familiarity about the design that you can't place, like something from a dream or long-forgotten memory.
‘Yeah,’ he says with a grin. ‘Oh— of course, if you'd rather pool it in with the rest of the loot and get your money's worth instead, that's totally fine. I won't mind, I just thought you deserve to have something for yourself.’
‘Mark… Did you steal this, for me?’
He says it casually, but the whole notion leaves you feeling incredibly touched.
‘Mark. If you got this especially for me I'm not gonna sell it. This is really thoughtful, I love it.’
‘Aw, no problem, buddy. It's nothing.’
‘No, it's not nothing. Thank you. Really.’
‘Well… I'm glad you like it.’ He smiles and you hold each other's gaze for a moment. ‘Oh — here, let me- ’
He takes the necklace from you and after a second you realise he intends to help you put it on.
He leans closer, unclasping the chain carefully.
‘So, what's the occasion?’ you ask, conscious of how his hands brush against your skin as he moves them to close the clasp behind your neck.
‘Do I need a reason to give my friend a gift?’
‘... I guess not.’
He lingers in your space a bit longer than necessary, hands just barely resting at the curve where your neck meets your shoulders.
And maybe it's the tenderness and unspoken intimacy of this physical act, or that you're used to taking and not so much receiving, or the fact that he thought to keep this for you at all, but for whatever reason, your heart feels incredibly full.
‘It suits you.’
After that day, you wear your new accessory all the time when you're home.
You refuse to wear it out, even if you're simply going to meet with friends or the two of you are on a standard grocery run, out of fear that it'll get lost or damaged or, ironically, stolen.
Regardless, Mark can tell how much it means to you by the way he'll notice it hanging over your collar bones when you groggily traipse over to the kitchen for breakfast every morning, or how it is still around your neck when you fall asleep slumped against him in your living room by the end of the day. And whenever anyone comes over to visit, you wear it proudly, and he feels himself swell with happiness and pride in turn when your friends compliment it and you mention how ‘Mark gave it to me’.
You truly do love your gift, but what you cherish far more is the care behind the gesture, and the fact that he looks pleased whenever you wear it.
You'll have to find some way to return the favour.

Hiii basmathgirl,
You are in my eyes Ten x Donna and Tatennant royalty and I just want to thank you for your fics and your presence on tumblr (I remember your blog from when I discovered Tendonna in 2016 and I'm soo glad that you're still championing them after all these years (I kind of lost interest in Doctor Who for some years, but now my TenDonna obsession is full on back thanks to the 60th special)). Thank you for investing so much time and love into this fandom and being soo nice and kind when answering asks.
Anyway I've written my first tendonna fic and published it a few days ago and I wondered about reaching out to you but then thought the selfpromo is too shameful.
But when I've read your last anon ask, I thought wow that's a coincidence!!!! Because the fic deals with the Ten/Donna/River mess and is an add on for the library two parter. So I take it as an omen (like our superstitious queen CT) and have decided to slide into your asks😉
https://archiveofourown.org/works/53066341
I'm afraid my fic won't exactly satisfy the needs of anon sadly. Because it's not a fix-it, more a "let's add even more angst/hurt to Tendonna after what they lived through". Ten desperately wants and craves Donna, and meeting River makes him realize even more that it's actually Donna who he whishes to be able to know his name. There's a lot of angst involved with him not knowing about Donna's futute fate. And there's a kiss that he initiates and she first reciprocates and then stops. So yeah... exactly the kind of hurt/no comfort I'm into but probably not a lot of other people.
And I fear my fic could be misconstrued as River bashing which was never my intention. I don't like how Moffat has written River but I like what she COULD be. If only.
Hope your doing well and your migraines get better.
Lots of love from Germany xx
Hello @thelittlecoughsomewhere!
How lovely to talk to you. Although I'm not sure about the "royalty" bit
*blush*
Tumblr media
Not compared to Catherine Tate (in Queen of Oz). I'm more like the "old retainer" who fondly looks after her... Anyway.
Thank you for the wonderful compliment! 😘
Tumblr media
Hugs to you! [gorgeous Ten/Donna drawing by @mayomkun]
Oooh, you wrote a fic set in The Library (because, as we know, it gets a great big "The" in Moffat's world). I know what you mean about the self promos :- very embarassing at the nest of times, yet how else can you get someone to read it?
So I read Grieving for the living and found it gorgeously angsty and bittersweet, and rather Ten/Donna shippy (because I like that sort of thing). You did a fine job of not bashing River too, btw.
Generally, the migraines are better thanks, but I've spent the day with a migraine, wrapped up in my oversized snuggle hoodie, being fussed over by hubby; so it's not all bad.
Sending you lots of love from England xx

Occasionally we debate on illustrating random bits from our Discord PMs that we find really funny but then we remember that we're, like, the physical embodiment of the "ace that makes sex jokes" stereotype and phrases like "iterator dick discourse" would both be remarkably difficult to illustrate and probably require us drawing something at least somewhat NSFW (we do not particularly care to learn how to draw this)
#we speak#realistically it would just require more specific tinkering w what we choose to include but we still think the dickscourse is funny#it's the image of a bunch of ancient monks gathering around to very seriously debate decisions with the upcoming iterator project#and then the whiteboard is just like. “ITERATORS: dick or no?”#(vital context: we got hung up on the semantics of people giving their iterators actual genitals in smut)#(as the existence of that on the puppet implies that someone had to design and manufacture and ship that shit for the finished iterator)#(and the general aura of the ancients instantly catapults this to fucking hilarious because it implies job titles like “dick director”)#(and work emails about iterator pipe written in the exact same cadence as all of the ancient correspondence we see in-game)#we dont think a lot of people designing iterators really Get the sheer amount of semantics and construction and effort and PEOPLE#that go into a project of the iterator's scale#especially when hundreds of them have been constructed! theres gonna be a whole ass trail of design changes and iterations!#youre gonna have hundreds of years of iterators being designed and technology coming into fashion and out of fashion#and things being integrated and things becoming obsolete and things being more or less practical as time goes on!#you cant really say that All Iterators have a trait because the sheer scale and timeframe theyre built on means thats near impossible#our windows 95 writing computer has different construction and deeply different design to a laptop from 2023#despite them technically being the same type of technology#you expect tech developed hundreds of years apart to be The Same? absolutely not. theres gonna be eight trillion weird design quirks#accumulated both in the construction process and in the continued design refinement and improvement stage#...which is to say that you can and should write what u want but if youre gonna include pleasure inducing wires then we want like#a 40k word essay on how this got into the design how it wound up in future designs what function the wires perform that makes them Like Tha#and so on and so forth#we admire the confidence and ingenuity of the people who want to fuck the robots but we cannot get into their fantasies with good conscienc#we live in the same house as an engineer who manages largescale construction and we also know too much about designing technology#...we should segment these tags into a separate post or something. we've gone WAY off-topic.

My sister has the Pride and Prejudice: The Complete Novel, with Nineteen Letters from the Characters' Correspondence, Written and Folded by Hand (Handwritten Classics),
and so ofc I had to take pictures of the letters. I couldn't fit all of them here tho tumblr only allows 10 in a post
Caroline's letter informing Jane that they're leaving Netherfield, emphasizing Mr. Darcy is impatient to see his sister and that Georgiana Darcy is such an accomplished young lady *wink
Tumblr media
Mr. Darcy's letter clarifying what Mr. Wickham's true nature is like after the uhh awkward proposal. They were very long letters and multiple pages of them
Tumblr media
Lydia's letter to Harriet, a friend, where she's basically flaunting that she's with Wickham. I can't remember if this character actually is in the novel or if the writer of this version took the liberty to show Lydia's childishness
Tumblr media
Jane's letter to Elizabeth, telling her about Lydia running away with Mr. Wickham.
Tumblr media
Mr. Gardiner's letter to Mr. Bennet about the Lydia-Wickham situation
Tumblr media
Mrs. Gardiner's letter to Elizabeth after the Wickham-Lydia elopement debacle and Elizabeth inquiring about what happened
Tumblr media
Elizabeth's letter to Mrs. Gardiner, her aunt after she marries Mr. Darcy to thank her 😊
Tumblr media
Mr. Bennet's letter to Mr. Collins about Elizabeth and Darcy's engagement and telling him to soothe Lady Catherine's wrath but also, hey, Mr. Darcy has more to give so...pick your fighter
Tumblr media
Lydia's letter to Elizabeth in the end, unashamedly asking for the Darcys' monetary assistance in the future

Did Henry VIII forbid Princess Mary from any correspondence after she was bastardized by statute? Different biographies claim different things, was hoping for some clarity and insight.
If he did, he did a fairly poor job of enforcing the rule:
1172. Anne Shelton to Henry VIII. I have spoken with my lady Mary, as you desired, and asked her by whom she sent the letter to master Carowe. She said she sent it by her servant Randal Dod, and that lady Bryan delivered her lady Carowe's letter open, the effect of which was to desire her for the Passion of Christ in all things to follow the King's pleasure, otherwise she was utterly undone. After I had spoken with my lady Mary I went to my lady Bryan, and she affirmed what was said to be true. Hunsdon. this Sunday, at 8 o'clock in the evening. Signed. 'Henry VIII: September 1534, 16-20', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 7, 1534, ed. James Gairdner (London, 1883), pp. 453-457. British History Online.
This contradicts the below:
968. Princess Mary to [Cromwell]. Apologises for her [poor] writing; "for I have not done so much this two year and more, nor could not have found the means to do it [...] but by my lady Kingston's being here."  'Henry VIII: May 1536, 26-31', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 10, January-June 1536, ed. James Gairdner (London, 1887), pp. 402-420.
Which contradicts...
1253. Marillac to Francis I. Saw letters of hers in French, written to the Emperor's ambassador in the time of her “ennuy.” [...] [Her] chamber woman says that when her mother was first repudiated [1531 or 1533] she was sick with “ennuy,” but, on being visited and comforted by the King [1536], soon recovered and has had no such illness since. 'Henry VIII: October 1541, 11-20', in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, Henry VIII, Volume 16, 1540-1541, ed. James Gairdner and R H Brodie (London, 1898), pp. 585-592.
And, it even contradicts Chapuys, who mentions her correspondence during this time, as well. There are times he's unable to receive any messages, but Mary was writing him frequently at some times, intermittently at others. Like, during 1534, Chapys falls for some false flags (such as, crowing about how Mary managed to secure the best place on the barge setting out for Elizabeth's new household, sent word to him where the barge would be sent so that he knew which place to wait for her appearance on the shore... shortly followed by him whining about how this showcase of defiance seems to have intensified her mistreatment, and caused the arrest of "a young lady who did her the most service", including interrogation by the Duke of Norfolk as to how, exactly, Chapuys learned which place at which riverside he needed to wait to watch her pass...), but from 1535 onwards, she even manages to send her own letter to the literal Emperor, and she claims it will be very easy to slip out of her sister's household, that all she has to do is drug Anne Shelton and shimmy out a window to accomplish this, all the way to 1536, where she manages to copy a letter her stepmother has written to Anne Shelton and send it to Chapuys, and sends him word that she approves of the plot to oust her stepmother from the throne ("On 2 May 1536, he wrote that Mary had encouraged him to get rid of Anne and, on her advice, he employed various means to do so [...]", Inside the Tudor Court, Lauren Mackay).
There is of course, the possibility that it was 'forbidden' to Mary officially, but that the unofficial policy was to turn a blind eye/allow it so that her correspondence could be monitored. Warnicke espoused this theory, I'm not terribly convinced, however, because while Chapuys does mention Mary's letters, he also, in the thick of the Exeter Conspiracy arrests, claims he's not too terribly worried for Mary's well-being because he's long told her to burn correspondence from him, and he himself has already burned her most controversial correspondence, kept the red herrings he dictated and sent her some for good measure, should her household be searched (since a complete absence of correspondence from Chapuys would be suspect). Although, the possibility that Henry knew his eldest daughter had solicited foreign invasion would perhaps put the pressurizing of his council for her arrest six months afterwards, into an...interesting, context? (Was he planning to hold onto this information/evidence just in case he ever needed to use it? Had he not acted upon it until that point because he wanted to leave the option of an Imperial alliance open? Had he not told his council, but was he planning to if she refused the oaths yet again, mid-1536? Et al)
Tl; dr again, if that was his forbiddance, it seems it was either rather toothless (it would be instructive to read the letter Shelton was responding to here, wouldn't it) and/or inconsistent. There seem to have been periods within this timeframe where this 'rule' was more strictly enforced than others.
#anon#correspondence with her mother; i believe so; correspondence period?#it doesn't seem like it#and yeah there is not much consensus btwn the available mary i biographies#not even on whether or not she was on (virtual) or (literal) house arrest#there is the comparable example of elizabeth's house arrest during the marian era#which begins with the tide letter and ends with her gaoler forbidding writing materials until she has petitioned the council like. 100 time#in her royal nuisance era#my sense of these years has evolved quite a lot bcus when there is a controversial subject i tend to focus in on it#historians have moved from an insistence that mary lived in a succession of houses of horror#in constant threat of or even constant literal beatings#with every single privilege one could imagine denied#(90s and the aughts)#to...well; mary was a dissembler and well-versed in the art of self-fashioning#ie what she herself wrote does not always seem to have been necessarily true#for example; she claimed in the immediate aftermath of the boleyn downfall#that the only reason she had not written to her father from 1534-36 was that she was denied writing materials the entire time#and yet...see above#i have had a similar journey. it is a matter of reading the dispatches of the imperial ambassadors primarily#and then tabling them against all other available primary sources#this letter/source is also illuminating bcus it means the narrative that all her supporters advised rebellion was not true#this is a compelling piece of evidence that disproves the narrative that chapuys was in such concert with mary's supporters#bcus it shows they were advising her to submit two years before chapuys did so#*ambassador
