The Primettes, The Supremes, The Supremes with Diana Ross, Diana Ross and The Supremes, and The Supremes

The Original Line Up...Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diana Ross

The story of Motown's premier female group The Supremes is vast. Originally known as The Primettes (a female group) to compliment The Primes (a male group) later to be known as The Temptations.

Originally The group began with Florence Ballard and classmate and friend Mary Wilson and later a friend named Betty McGlown and then Diane Ross (later known as Diana). When McGlown left to focus on her marriage she was replaced by Barbara Martin. Barbara Martin left after getting married and pregnant leaving Ballard, Wilson and Ross a trio

They went from the Primettes to The Supremes. With no lead singer but rather a sharing of vocals between Florence, Mary and Diana.

But dissension in ranks began as The Supremes once called THE NO HIT SUPREMES began banging out hit after hit.

A cover of a '60 song performed by the Supremes, hence the appropriately styled cover. Phil said it was an experiment to see if the 60s sound could be replicated in modern recording technology. This makes it an oddball of sorts in Phil's discography.

The cover is just a shot from the music video, which was common to find in single covers at the time.
