Oh, I just had a thought: What if the Joker ALSO died in the warehouse explosion that killed Jason?
Jason comes back as in canon, but the Joker is gone.
I think he'd be a lot more chill in genera. There's no real betrayal of expectations here the way there would be if Joker died on accident some other way.
Jason would probably just go home, be poked and prodded tll they were sure and then bang boom how do ya do the family's back together.
Well, except for the fact the new Robin is a mouthy little shit who clearly thinks Jason is a stupid thug. & Bruce has become a hyper controlling paranoid asshole to everyone around him, especially the new girl, Spoiler was it? Alfred's classism is way more overt in how he blatantly favors Tim. Barbra seems to be doing well and Dick is cool, so that's nic-
Oh no there's been an earthquake and Gotham is all fucked up and everything has gone to hell in a handbasket.
The cops are even more blatantly a gang than ever, people are dying and starving the US told them to go hang. Bruce is either there being worse than ever or away & Jason is trying to fill the Batman suit but he is not yet six point two feet tall
Also that courier (Cassandra) Barbara hired seems terrifyingly skilled, like what the hell?
So yeah, honestly not sure of the specifics, but I think in this case the vibe would be a case where Jason came back right but almost everyone else is wrong and thinks he's wrong, and remembers him wrong and its not a fun time and then there's an earthquake.

#sakuatsu a/b/o | First time parents
⚠️ CW: Mpreg
All Sakusa could register was the vice-like grip of steel wrapped around his wrist grounding him, and the wave of ice-cold panic washing over him, sinking into his bones.
He had to be calm for his mate.
Throwing a quick glance at Atsumu who had been looking steadily uncomfortable since his water bag broke, the alpha was not prepared for the yelp of excruciating pain emitting from his omega.
It rattled his bones and left him spiralling into anxiety induced panic.
As an alpha and omega pair, they'd been warned of the many dangers and risks of complications of pregnancies in male omegas while they were trying for a pup.
Taking a deep inhale, Sakusa focused on channelling calming pheromones to soothe his omega. He gave their gynaecologist's clinic a call thereafter.
“Dr Sugawara, I-"
"Hello, Sir, Dr Sugawara is having a-"
"My mate's gone into labour," Sakusa spat, rubbing his thumb in circles around Atsumu's wrist, to soothe him as best as he could.
"Please tell Dr Sugawara that it's an emergency. We're heading over now."
The lady on the phone seemed to be unable to comprehend how grave the situation was, stalling with a hum.
"Alright, Sir, don't panic, is this your first child?"
Sakusa growled. His patience was running thin. He did not have time to talk to someone who didn't seem to be doing her job right or understanding the severity of this.
"No, you fucktard, this is his husband, Sakusa Kiyoomi, CEO of Itachiyama."
A quiet gasp of realisation sounded.
The line went eerily quiet before a soothing voice replaced the lady.
Sakusa sighed in relief, hearing the familiar, mild amusement in Sugawara's voice.
Thank fuck.
"We've got everything prepared for Atsumu," Sugawara chuckled softly over the line, "Be careful, don't drive here, Sakusa."
The alpha sighed begrudgingly.
"I won't, I considered getting Osamu to drive but I don't think he'll fare very well on the road."
Sugawara snickered in understanding.
"I understand, Daichi lost it the same way you did. You alphas... Can you believe that it was Asahi, of all people, who drove us there? God bless him."
God bless, indeed.
Sakusa shook his head with a smile.
Staring at a pained Atsumu who gritted his teeth and forced a weak grin after overhearing the entire conversation, nothing could amount to the outpouring love the alpha had for his omega. Atsumu was so brave. He was going to make a wonderful parent.
Sakusa did not realise he had voiced his thoughts, and how Atsumu was positively beaming, even in the midst of all the pain on his body.
"You'll make an amazing father too. Both Atsumu and you," Sugawara's voice tinkled, "I'll have the paperwork sorted out for you guys."
Sakusa mumbled a quick word of thanks, chest constricted with a multitude of emotions. Was he really going to be a good father capable of raising a pup?
Growing up in a broken family, taking over his father's role in the company, didn't seem like he'll be a decent parent.
It was doubt deeply planted in him. Atsumu sensed it and tightened his grip on his alpha's wrist. Sakusa winced.
"Yer- yer better listen up, Omi, you and me- we're gonna kick ass and be the best parents for our little one."
Sakusa smiled softly.
Seeing a familiar car finally stopping in front of their house, Sakusa gave a quick nod of thanks to Ushijima, who emerged from the vehicle as the designated driver.
"Atsumu, I'll love and cherish the both of you with all of my being and the entirety of my heart."
Sakusa was not sure if he'd make a good parent or father, but he'd be damned if he didn't try. Like it or not, he knew he was going to pour every bit of love Atsumu had shown and taught a cold, distant CEO like himself, what it was like to love fiercely.
(It proved to pay off, when his son and daughter, toddled over towards him unsteadily.
"Dada!"
Presented with a mug that said 'Best Daddy', Sakusa's heart swelled in his chest.
Pride, affection, unrelenting love.
Accompanied by the fond smile on Atsumu's lips, Sakusa bundled his family in his arms.
"Thank you for being the greatest gift and blessing in my life."

Inspired by that pink skirt (iykyk)
"You're in high spirits today, love," Sakusa murmured softly, nosing his omega's scent glands.
Atsumu wriggled in his lap, beaming. It was endearing. The excitement shining in his eyes was palpable, and it never failed to bring the alpha so much joy.
To Sakusa, Atsumu was his bundle of sunshine and happiness. He couldn't imagine living a life without his mate.
"I got my Halloween outfit all ready!" Atsumu babbled eagerly, "Hang on, Omi, lemme put it on for yer!"
Clambering off Sakusa's lap, the omega scrambled to grab a small black box before rushing to the toilet. Sakusa shook his head in amusement.
It was a good five minutes before Atsumu made his appearance in their bedroom.
To say that it was a pleasant surprise, would be an understatement.
Sakusa dropped the book he had been reading. His reading glasses slipped off the bridge of his nose.
"I take yer like it?"
Atsumu purred, twirling in a nurse crop top and a short pink skirt that did little to cover tan skin and his perky ass that was practically hanging out.
Sakusa didn't just 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 it.
He 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 it.
Taking in thick, toned thighs clad in sheer thigh high stockings to match, a garbled groan died in his throat.
"Sweetheart, you're 𝘯𝘰𝘵 wearing this for Halloween."
That became very clear, when the alpha all but pounced on his omega and made sure that this piece was only to be worn in their bedroom.

A short drabble
It's a quiet morning. A day off practice. The break of dawn.
Atsumu traces the many stars and constellations across the smooth expanse of his lover's chest.
"One, lil' Omi, Two, Omiomi-"
Mumbling quietly, Atsumu counts and names the moles littering pale, porcelain skin. He giggles under his breath.
Sakusa stirs.
A dopey smile graces handsome features.
Atsumu flushes a dark shade of pink, returning a fond smile of his own.
Years of being together with Sakusa, still leaves him melting into a puddle of goo, at the soft press of lips on his forehead.
Paired with the low, husky rumble of his husband's voice and slim digits intertwining with his fingers, the matching gold bands on their ring fingers clink.
"Morning, love."
"Mornin', Omi," Atsumu chirps, basking in the affection Sakusa showers him with.
A peck on the bridge of his nose. His cheeks. His lips. Atsumu sighs contentedly.
He's a lucky man. Possibly the luckiest.
Returning the love tenfold, lips marking every mole on Sakusa's body, the orange hues of dawn spills into their bedroom.  Atsumu has no regrets forgetting to draw the blinds after a passionate session of lovemaking the night before.
Not when the soft rays of light frame his husband's prominent cheekbones and soft, curly locks of hair like a glowing halo. Not when the shimmer in dark obsidian eyes lets him catch the barest specks of charcoal. Not when Sakusa finally straightens up, tugging him out of bed, muscles rippling under radiant sunshine.
Atsumu is a lucky man.
"Breakfast date?" Sakusa murmurs, stroking his cheek.
"Breakfast date," Atsumu affirms with a grin.
The luckiest.

#sakuatsu a/b/o | Yakuza Sakusa x Single Parent Atsumu
⚠️ Cw: Mentions of abuse (physical & verbal)
Atsumu is an omega and a single parent of a young son, Nao. Fleeing from an abusive partner, he meets Sakusa, a Yakuza kumicho and learns to love.
His ex on the other hand, learns that abusers don't win, in a brutal way. is an omega and a single parent of a young son, Nao. Fleeing from an abusive partner, he meets Sakusa, a Yakuza kumicho and learns to love.
His ex on the other hand, learns that abusers don't win, in a brutal way.
[Chapter I]
Life is not kind to omegas.
Atsumu learnt this the hard way when he first received his medical report reflecting his second gender: an omega.
The second, when his boyfriend of two years left him for another chic, a pup growing in his womb. The third, when his current partner started showing his true colours.
Raising his fists, hard, heavy blows pelted down on Atsumu, who curled into a small ball and swallowed every broken cry from leaving his heaving chest.
It hurt.
He didn't want to let his five year old son, Nao, who was hiding in the bedroom, hear him crying and getting hurt.
A slap to his cheek. A punch. A kick.
It was followed by more painful blows.
Why was it so hard to be happy? Why did he have to live like this? Why did he have to be born as an omega? Of all things, why did his beautiful, precious son, Nao, have to go through this?
The quietest sob wrecked through Atsumu's beaten body.
Happiness was all, but a far fetched dream.
It didn't exist.
Yet, it was all Atsumu ever wished for. To be happy. To live life normally as an unmated omega with a five year old son. To be loved.
“You're worthless. Get out there and find a job. I need the money to pay the rent. Who let you stay under this roof? Useless omega. I'll hurt the little fucker that came out of you. He isn't even mine."
Atsumu almost laughed. Bitter distaste filled him.
What had happened to the man who'd showered him with affection and sweet, tender words? The man who professed to make him the happiest omega? The man who'd sworn to protect Nao and him?
Right- he'd lost his job, picked up gambling, and turned into a shell of a man.
Atsumu wanted to talk back. To yell. To scream and tell his useless partner to wake up and realize that he was hitting him. Hurting him. Wounding him.
Knowing that he might strike that very same hand and fist, on his son, though, terrified him. It left Atsumu swallowing the words in his mouth. Allowing his bruises to grow, his skin to bleed, and his heart to break.
Watching the frame of someone he'd actually cherished and loved once, walk away, slamming the door to the worn out apartment, Atsumu finally let the cries he had been holding back, to leave his broken body.
It hurt. It hurt so fucking much.
"Papa?"
Atsumu shot up instantly. Nao-
Reaching out to cradle his son’s trembling frame in his arms and tuck him close to his chest, Atsumu forced himself to pump as much of his omegan pheromones to stop his kit from being distressed and his milky scent from turning sour.
“H-hurwts?" Nao mumbled quietly, looking crestfallen and teary eyed, "Papa hurwts?"
Atsumu's heart shattered. He reeled in his tears. He had to be strong for his child.
Shaking his head, he forced a smile onto his face, and ignored the sting from a cut near his lip.
"Baby, listen to papa okay? We need to leave. We're not safe here anymore," Atsumu's voice cracked.
Nao bobbed his head in understanding.
Reaching a grabby hand to cling on to the hem of the thin cardigan Atsumu wore, he asked, "Papa, happwer if we leave?"
Atsumu smiled woefully, picking his son up and a backpack he'd packed with essentials months ago, when the abuse first started.
"I don't know, my little cinnamon bun. Maybe. But I'm not gonna let yer get hurt here."
Deep in his heart, Atsumu knew that being safe was miles better than being happy.
Happiness didn't exist.
Not for omegas. Not for him.
[Chapter II]
Carrying Nao in his arms and the backpack of essentials strapped on his back, Atsumu checked his surroundings cautiously for possible traces of his abusive partner.
The man never left for long, after hitting him.
He always came back crawling on his knees, begging for forgiveness, for lashing out at Atsumu, before another fit of rage consumed him and fists rained down on the omega's body.
It was terrifying. And it was sickening that Nao's name had been brought up earlier.
Who knew what his partner was capable of doing to his pup, in another fit of anger?
Atsumu shook his head.
He didn't want to think about that. Nor did he dare to. He held onto his son tighter. He had to move fast.
Atsumu unlatched the front door with trembling hands and a held breath.
It hadn't been locked from the outside.
His partner had forgotten to lock it, in his fit of rage. That meant a safer escape, without having to use the windows.
"Nao, sweetheart, we're going to need to be very quiet, okay?" Atsumu whispered, scenting his kit's scent glands briefly.
Nao, being an absolute dear, nodded.
Peeking out of the door, and down the quiet hall, Atsumu released the breath he'd been holding.
There was no one in sight.
He took a step out warily. One step turned into two. Two, followed by three.
Before he even realized, Atsumu took off, holding onto his precious little pup who made soft, excited garbles.
Ignoring the sharp pain from his legs that had been badly bruised from being beaten, Atsumu took the short flight of stairs down the escape route he'd been formulating. He ran into the bustling streets, thankful that it was a crowded evening.
That didn't stop him from seeing the familiar figure of his partner stomping back towards the apartment.
Closing in.
Atsumu's blood ran cold.
His partner never stayed out for long, always checking that Atsumu was home.
Ducking his head, lying low, adrenaline coursed through his veins. He heart fell, when he felt an angry stare bearing holes into him from afar.
Atsumu ran.
He didn't know how long he ran, or where his feet were carrying him and his pup, but Atsumu's instincts told him to keep running as far as he could.
Away from the stretch of pachinko parlours his partner frequented. Away from the small cafe where they'd first met. Away from the place he once thought he'd be happy, until he wasn't.
Sprinting away from his abusive partner, everything started to fragment, the further he ran. Atsumu was swept away by a sense of helplessness.
He was all alone, a single parent of a five year old, whom he'd sworn to protect and give his whole world to.
Except, Atsumu didn't have anything in his world.
An unmated omega, that had been tossed aside, he was unwanted for being an unconventional omega.
He didn't smell sweet, nor did he produce much slick. He was a broken counterfeit-
Everything an omega shouldn't be.
Maybe that was why his partner had gotten so fed up. Gone was the initial interest in dating a feisty omega. The empty promises to look after him and Nao. Atsumu had been left unbonded, untouched and ultimately, a punching bag-
Atsumu’s vision glazed over.
“Papa, no cry! No hurwts!” Nao’s shout stopped him from spiralling any deeper.
Of course. Sweet, little Nao was his ray of sunshine and spark of joy that kept him strong.
Atsumu would do anything to protect his pup.
Embracing the cold air caressing his cheeks and his little pup who rubbed away his tears, Atsumu ran harder, ignoring the burn in his chest and ache in his legs. He took in the rush of freedom blending into the crowd.
Failing to realize that he'd stepped foot into territory that he should never be in, Atsumu bumped into a broad, solid chest when he took a couple of turns off the main road, into a dark alleyway to catch his breath.
Lips parting to apologize frantically, every word died in his throat upon realizing that this was the infamous den of the Itachiyama clan.
Why had his feet taken him here, of all places?
Atsumu felt dread gnawing at his insides. He held onto Nao protectively, chest heaving.
The handsome young man standing before him, was unmistakably its ruler.
An alpha. And god- he smelled divine.
But that wasn't what Atsumu should be concerned about.
Anyone stepping foot into the Itachiyama den, never left alive.
"Please don't-"
"You're hurt."
The man before him spoke calmly, staring at him quietly, with dark eyes that burned like hot coals.
The rich, intoxicating scent of sandalwood blanketed Atsumu. He found himself relaxing slightly, cradling Nao closer to his chest.
As much as fear crippled him, and stifled him of his speech, the man before him, didn't seem to have any ill intentions. If anything, there was an empathic look pooling in his dark eyes.
Atsumu could almost feel himself getting reeled into the depths of those orbs.
"Who would hurt such a pretty thing?"
Oh. 𝘖𝘩.
A flash of heat stirred in Atsumu's gut at the low timbre of the man's voice.
A long, dexterous finger rested on his bruised cheek, before a hand cradled his jaw with a touch so gentle, it hurt.
The terse silence was broken by Nao, who was never shy around strangers and fidgeting in his hold. Looking over at the man inquisitively, Nao's eyes sparkled at the dark ink swirling across that very broad chest.
"Papa, it's cwayons?"
Atsumu almost choked. He was struck by momentary fear, shock and grief.
This was it.
The man was going to take his life. Possibly Nao's. They'd offended a Yakuza. Oh gods.
Atsumu wished he had the heart to scold his pup, but he found himself speechless.
An amused huff sounded.
Atsumu wouldn't have ever believed his ears, listening to the tiny chuckle and seeing the even smaller smile, that graced handsome features.
"It's ink, little one."
Bending slightly, the man ruffled Nao's hair. Nao purred.
‘Never follow a stranger home.’
And Atsumu fell.
[Chapter III]
‘Don’t tread into Itachiyama territory.’
‘Be wary of the Itachiyama clan- especially the kumicho. They're Yakuza.’
Those were the things Atsumu’s Ma told him, and his twin, Osamu, multiple times, back when they were young kits.
Yet, Atsumu found himself following the footsteps of said stranger, treading deeper into Itachiyama grounds and walking behind the ruler of the Itachiyama clan.
An alpha who was not only unmated, but smelt and looked ravishing. An alpha who'd reached out and touched him and his little pup with such care and tenderness he hadn't felt in a long time. An alpha who made him feel safe, but so very strange.
Atsumu’s heart had fluttered upon meeting the alpha.
Heart hammering against his chest when the man reached out to touch him and Nao, the omega knew what he'd felt then wasn't really fear, but something more akin to falling in love.
It was trust, he'd given all too easily.
Atsumu knew better than to get his hopes up, but he couldn't fight the attraction that had a gravitating sort of pull, towards the alpha before him.
It was an emotion he hadn't quite felt before, leaving him to drop his guard and disable the walls and barriers to his heart.
Atsumu had never encountered an alpha whose pheromones left him feeling weak in the knees.
It was almost like it was fated. Like the alpha was his fated pair.
But Atsumu didn't believe in things like that. The sharp pain throbbing in his bruises and aching legs proved that.
“You’re slowing down, with your injuries. My car's parked just down the main road. It'll be faster if I carry you and your pup. Only if you allow me to.”
The alpha who'd been walking silently, turned back briefly, dark, obsidian eyes glinting with worry.
Atsumu’s heart thudded in his chest.
It wasn't fair for someone who was supposedly notoriously dangerous, to look this kind and compassionate.
He so wanted to melt into the alpha’s hold, but the part of him that'd always protected himself and his kit, told him to be strong and fend for himself, said otherwise.
“I-”
“Oh! Pwincess carwwie?” Nao perked up in his hold, eyes sparkling.
Atsumu wanted the ground to swallow him up, cheeks flushing at the way the man's eyes just softened.
“Only if your papa lets me.”
Maybe it was the comforting scent of sandalwood that blanketed him with safety he'd never found before.
Maybe it was the low baritone of the man’s voice that made him gain his trust.
Maybe it was just how Atsumu was so tired of running.
“Atsumu.”
The man before him blinked, eyebrows furrowing in confusion, before understanding passed. A tiny smile budded on his lips.
“And your pup?”
“Nao.”
“I'm Sakusa Kiyoomi.”
Striding towards Atsumu, the alpha reached out to carry his pup with a strong, toned forearm with dark, swirling ink.
Nao clung onto his broad, inked chest immediately, small hands tracing at the ink, in interest.
A surge of panic coursed through Atsumu’s veins, but a low purr rumbling from Sakusa’s chest told him it was okay.
“You like tattoos, Nao-chan?” Sakusa hummed, taking in the little pup’s look of wonderment, “I've got more on my back.”
Nao made a series of excited garbles, eyes lighting up.
The alpha found it endearing. Maybe he'd get to show the little one, more of his ink.
Snaking his other arm around Atsumu, who had been looking at the exchange with a quiet look of awe, Sakusa lifted the omega up without batting an eyelid.
“Not quite a princess carry for your papa, but I'm sure we'll get to it.”
Atsumu’s cheeks colored a scarlet hue.
[Chapter IV]
Perhaps it was how Sakusa had cradled Atsumu alongside Nao, settling them down gingerly into the back of his sleek sedan car. Perhaps it was how the young yakuza boss adjusted the heater in the car, retrieving soft, fluffy blankets from the boot, to cover him and his pup. Perhaps it was how Sakusa leaned over and buckled his seatbelt, before turning to Nao and doing the same.
It was unseen chivalry- something Atsumu had not expected coming from an alpha notorious for being cold-blooded, ruthless and capable of committing the worst of crimes.
The kindness, compassion and gentleness Sakusa had shown him and Nao in the past half an hour, were things Atsumu hadn't experienced in years.
His partner hadn't shown him any kindness after losing his job. Words sharp, cutting like knives, his touch had left only bruises, wounds and scars.
Atsumu's heart twinged at the distant memory. The pain in his bruises throbbed.
“You're safe now. I won't hurt you. And I'm not going to let anyone lay their hands on you and Nao."
Something stirred from the depths of his once-broken heart.
Watching the young kumicho prop Nao up with a small pillow, Atsumu's heart clenched at the small, bemused smile gracing slightly chapped lips, seeing his pup reach out and grab a slim, inked digit like a child seeking their parent.
'Sakusa would make a good father for Nao,' the omega mused.
Atsumu shut his train of thoughts there and then. He swallowed the hope and desire igniting in him, to have an alpha like Sakusa, in his life.
It would never work out.
Not for an omega like him.
"Don go, Uncwle Omi omi" Nao mumbled sleepily, gripping onto Sakusa's index finger.
A low, soothing rumble emitted from the alpha's chest. The calming scent of sandalwood filled the car.
"I don't intend to go anywhere, Nao-chan, but someone needs to drive," Sakusa chuckled softly, using his other hand to weave through soft tuffs of hair, "Rest easy and sleep. You're tired, little one."
Turning to Atsumu, dark eyes brimmed fiercely, with what looked to be a mix of warmth, fondness and something he couldn't quite pinpoint.
The omega barely registered that Sakusa had spoken.
"Don't worry about anything, Atsumu. I'll take care of it."
Inhaling the alpha's pheromones left Atsumu grappling and drowning. He didn't understand the emotions running through his entirety, but he trusted Sakusa.
Blanketed in warmth, the scent of sandalwood and a promise that his pup and him were safe, Atsumu's eyelids drooped.
Weariness consumed him.
The omega forgot about the ache settling in his bones, and the pain in his bruises that were beginning to purple. Drifting into a deep slumber, Atsumu was oblivious to the soft, fleeting press of chapped lips on his forehead.
"I'll take care of you and Nao."
[Chapter V]
The drive was a silent one.
Glancing up from the rearview mirror, Sakusa took in the bruises scattering across what could be smooth, tan unblemished skin. Instead, it was marred with ugly wounds, haunting blue-blacks and open cuts, showing signs of abuse.
It had to be months. Maybe even years.
How long had Atsumu gone through it? What had Nao seen, growing up as a young pup? How could anyone do something so cruel to such a beautiful omega who had such an endearing, little pup?
Sakusa's heart ached.
Within the empathy budding in his chest, there was something darker. An anger rearing its ugly head, fury boiling in his veins and a rage that was all consuming, igniting in his core, to hurt the scumbag who dared lay a hand on Atsumu and even Nao.
Sakusa took a deep inhale, controlling his temper.
The sweet scent of vanilla, spices and honeycomb wafting from Atsumu, caged the wrath in him.
The alpha sighed softly. He focused on how the blonde omega and his young pup were relaxed and slumbering, worn out from everything they'd been put through.
No more.
Sakusa was going to protect them.
A newfound determination and promise to look after Atsumu and Nao, the young kumicho made a quick hands-free call to his right-hand man.
"Motoya, find out everything you can about Miya Atsumu and who he was staying with. Bring that 𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 to me."
*
Sakusa was not a kind man by any means.  Brought up to take over the Itachiyama syndicate, he had seen his fair amounts of bloodshed, darkness and violence from young. Hands tainted with blood, holding onto the reins of power meant committing crimes to keep the syndicate going.
Even then, the first time Sakusa laid his eyes on a blonde omega walking down the street near the Itachiyama territory, belly rounded with a pup, it struck something in his chords.
A streak of possessiveness.
A desire.
A want.
Sakusa wanted the omega, and as the young kumicho of the notorious Itachiyama group, there wasn't anything he couldn't get his hands on. Yet, a rational part of himself told him that it was best not to lay his hands on a pregnant omega, clearly out of his reach.
Gaze fixated on the blonde omega, Sakusa noted how the back of his neck was bare of a bond mark and a mating bite.
A spark of interest flickered in his heart.
He licked his lips.
Daring to step closer, the sweet scent of honeycomb, cinnamon and spices- everything that smelt like home, called out to him.
Sakusa’s mouth watered.
What the alpha hadn't realized then, was that he had found his fated pair.
Eyes trailing after the omega who was broader and stronger looking than most, he smelt so ever sweet. Yet, there were instances in which the blonde omega looked so small and fragile, cradling onto his belly, eyes downcast.
Who dared to put such a terrible look on someone so alluring and beautiful?
Sakusa's heart had clenched in his chest, an ache building in his chest to reach out and comfort the pregnant, unmated omega. But Sakusa had held himself back, and resisted the innate instinct as an alpha, telling him to go forward to console the blonde omega.
He had rules to follow, and treading any further into the Inarizaki territory was not ideal.
Turning back to his territory where there was work to be done as the kumicho of Itachiyama, Sakusa had ignored the sharp pang in his chest, and told himself that perhaps, someday, the paths taken by the blonde omega and him would cross.
[Chapter VI]
"Atsumu," Sakusa murmured softly.
The drive back to his apartment had taken less than fifteen minutes. Over the course of the short drive, his train of thoughts had gone on a wild ride, distant memories of a familiar looking blonde omega, filling his headspace.
Staring at Atsumu carefully, it became growingly apparent, that the omega seated at the back of his car, looking battered, bruised and holding on to Nao in a steadfast grip, was the splitting image of the pregnant omega he'd seen years ago.
The same omega who'd caught his attention and left him grappling with a yearning want- a fierce desire to protect. The same omega who'd he longed to reach out to, comfort, console and care for. The same omega who'd smelt like everything he ever wanted in his life. Home, love, fate-
Atsumu.
The sudden epiphany had Sakusa gripping onto the steering wheel, breath hilting in his throat. He took in a deep, shuddering inhale.
How hadn't he realized this any earlier? How hadn't he identified the familiarity of the omega who smelt so sweet and prime, to his liking? How hadn't he realized that his fated mate was right before him?
Stepping out of the driver's seat as quietly as he could even as his heart ran a hundred miles per second, Sakusa opened the car door to the back seat gingerly. He spared a moment to admire the tiny scrunch of Atsumu's upturned nose as he stirred.
A rush of fondness filled his heart.
God- Atsumu was beautiful.
A whimper left parted lips.
Sakusa frowned. Pumping out pheromones to ease the distress, the alpha stroked the bruise on Atsumu's cheek with a trembling finger.
It had turned an ugly shade of purple.
Something akin to guilt, blanketed Sakusa's entirety.
Those bruises, injuries, wounds- if he'd stepped in sooner, from the very first time he saw Atsumu, could all of this been prevented? Could he have stopped the omega before him from getting hurt?
He took in the scars and signs of abuse marking what could have been unblemished, tan skin. The darkness in Sakusa grew, like a gestating fetus.
“Omi?”
Amidst the darkness gnawing at his conscience, Atsumu's quiet whisper brought him back to reality.
A tiny smile tugged on his lips at the nickname. He caressed the omega's cheek with a tenderness he never knew a yakuza like him could muster.
"𝘈𝘵𝘴𝘶."
[Chapter VII]
𝘈𝘵𝘴𝘶.
It was the first time Atsumu had heard his name being called out so tenderly, with such raw fondness that his heart clenched and ached in his throbbing chest.
Only two people on this planet had ever called him that, and they were his Ma and twin, Osamu.
"Omi, where's-"
Atsumu's thoughts were in turmoil. Sitting up groggily, he barely registered how the car had come to a stop, and Sakusa was leaning in close, the heat of his palm, warm against his cheek.
It was a touch so gentle, he found himself purring unconsciously.
He'd missed this. He'd missed something as simple as a  touch, that felt too good to be true.
Atsumu nuzzled into the yakuza's touch instinctively, before a wave of clarity struck him. Shying away from the touch, panic surged through his entirety. Nao-
The omega relaxed when he saw his pup, fast asleep beside him, huddled in a blanket.
"Atsumu, I brought you back to my apartment."
A large palm rested atop his.
Atsumu did not flinch away from the touch. Not even when Sakusa's wrist brushed against his gently. Scent marking.
It was something bound to happen if he had to step into the alpha's den. This was just a small appetizer of how Sakusa smelt, and what was to come.
Atsumu shifted unconsciously, thighs rubbing.
The scent of bergamot wormed its way into him, carved a mark on his scent glands and the omega welcomed it. It smelt like comfort, safety and even more, 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.
Atsumu met Sakusa's unwavering gaze.
His breath hitched in his throat for the umpteenth time. He allowed himself to drown in the dark pools of emotions swirling in obsidian eyes.
Atsumu didn't understand why he didn't feel the need to put up any pretenses or guard himself. He simply felt safe with Sakusa and perhaps- just 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘴, this was fate.
“Let me princess carry you up this time?" Sakusa breathed, the low timbre of his voice carrying so much warmth, fondness and unmuted affection that the mirth almost went unnoticed.
Atsumu nodded shyly.
Even though his bruises and wounds ached as he carried a sleeping Nao, he didn't miss the flutter in his chest and the crushing wave of emotions surfacing in his heart when he was bundled up into Sakusa's strong arms.
It was love.
[Chapter VIII]
It was one thing to be carried. Another, to be held.
Atsumu cradled a slumbering Nao close to his chest. A spark ran down his spine at the strong forearm that was wrapped around his waist and the other, under the back of his thighs.
Carried towards the lift lobby of Sakusa's apartment, Atsumu tried not to make eye contact with men who looked like bodyguards on duty. Inked and clad in black fitted suits.
Right, he had almost forgotten about the alpha's notoriety as the young kumicho of Itachiyama.
Atsumu should've been afraid. Yet, he wasn't. If anything, he was intrigued.
Glancing at the glistening surface of black quartz, Atsumu would be lying if he said that he didn't feel the least bit intimidated. He couldn't imagine how much it was, to own an apartment here.
It was almost like he didn't belong.
A filthy, bruised omega like him, carrying a pup in a building like this, was something out of the question. Atsumu knew he had to be a sight for sore eyes.
A wave of shame blanketed him.
"Omi, I'm heavy, yer can put me down-"
His breath hitched in his throat when Sakusa stared at him sharply. Atsumu thought he saw a spark of challenge, heat and something else flashing across dark eyes.
"I can handle a lot more than you think, Atsu. Who do you think I am?"
Sakusa smiled good-naturedly, letting him down on his two feet.
Atsumu swallowed the words dying at the back of his throat. Ignoring the sharp, throbbing pain in his legs, he steadied himself and Nao, who shifted in his embrace.
Slim, inked digits retrieved a sleek, black card. Atsumu could only muster a soft gasp when Sakusa swiped his card, before picking him and Nao back up, single handedly.
(He was confident that he caught a glimpse of a pleased smirk tugging on the corner of Sakusa's lips when they entered the lift, headed towards the 54th storey.)
Sakusa was strong, and a part of Atsumu wondered just how much the alpha could actually take.
Flustered by the display of strength, Atsumu's eyes drifted towards the ink peeking from sleeves that were rolled up toned, veiny forearms. Like a moth drawn to a flame, his gaze travelled upwards to take in sculptured features. The soft pink of slightly chapped lips, the tall bridge of the alpha’s nose, and dark, obsidian eyes that bore into him, staring at him warmly.
Atsumu flushed. Averting his gaze, a rumble emitted from Sakusa’s chest at the same time a quiet purr left his parted lips.
The alpha made his heart race and the gravitating pull Sakusa had on him felt more than just mere attraction.  There was certainly something remarkably attractive about the alpha, but it went beyond his looks, charm and physique.
It wasn't just his pheromones that drove the omega in Atsumu wild.
It was Sakusa's chivalry- how he had treated him with all the tenderness in the world, like he was precious, and how that fondness, care and gentleness wasn’t just directed to him alone, but his pup, Nao.
It was all the reason Atsumu felt a growing anxiety of people living in the building, stepping into the lift lobby, seeing him in Sakusa's arms.
He wasn't worthy. He never had been.
"Omi, yer should put me down. I.. What if others see?"
Sakusa's dark eyes bore into him. Hurt morphed into a fierceness and fondness that had Atsumu's breath hitching.
"I don't care what others think. I promised I'd take care of you and Nao. Besides, I own this building."
Atsumu's jaw dropped.
To him, the building being owned by Sakusa was mind-boggling, but what he couldn't get his head around, was why the alpha would go through such extents for an omega like him. What Sakusa had said sounded less like a promise, and more of a declaration.
"Sakusa, why?"
Sakusa smiled at him tenderly, cupping his cheek.
"Because."
'Because I fell for you three years ago when I first laid my eyes on you walking down the street, pregnant with a kit and failed to realize you were my fated mate' went unsaid.
[Chapter IX]
Warmth bloomed in Sakusa’s chest at the soft gasp of awe, and the sweet scent wafting from the omega in his arms, the moment the doors to his penthouse apartment opened. Carrying a starstruck Atsumu all the way to the open living space of his den, he settled the omega on his sofa, taking care not to jostle him too much, lest Nao woke up.
"Make yourself comfortable, I'll get some toiletries and spare clothes so that you can wash up."
Straightening his back, Sakusa ran his fingers through soft blonde locks of hair, a pleased sound rumbling in his chest when the omega’s scent turned impossibly sweeter.
Atsumu purred, melting into his touch.
It was like this was meant to be- two individuals finding each other and completing one another. It felt surreal having his fated pair right in his living quarters. It no longer felt empty or a place he came back to, just to wash up and sleep. It felt right, just having Atsumu and Nao right there.
It finally felt like home.
*
Atsumu basked in the tenderness of the alpha’s dexterous fingers carding through his hair. He almost whined in protest when it left.
It was a touch that lingered.
The strong scent of sandalwood in Sakusa’s den pacified him, easing the dull ache in his limbs.
Atsumu glanced down at his socked feet and tugged his sweatpants up, wincing at the sight of purplish bruises that marred his tan skin. Gaze shifting to his pup, the omega softened seeing how Nao lay slumbering on the sofa, limbs outstretched like a starfish.
The sight alone brought Atsumu great comfort. He knew that everything had been worth it, getting his pup and himself out of the wretched place, where Nao’s safety had been compromised.
Not anymore.
“Nao looks like he's making himself home already.”
A low baritone sounded right by Atsumu's ear. The omega startled, before he relaxed, offering Sakusa a smile.
"Yeah."
Taking in the fond look in the alpha's eyes, Atsumu fidgeted. He didn't know how to address the elephant in the room.
Why was Sakusa being so nice to him? Why had the alpha gone to the extent of bringing Nao and him to his apartment? Why did the yakuza kumicho look at him with such tenderness and longing?
"Omi-"
"Take a shower first, Atsumu," Sakusa murmured firmly, handing him a fluffy towel and soft linen shirt, "I'll tend to your wounds after."
Atsumu gnawed at the inside of his cheek, worried that Nao would awaken in an unfamiliar environment. Sakusa sensed this. He thumbed the insides of Atsumu's wrist gently.
A full body shudder raked down the omega's spine.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything. I'll show Nao my tattoos if he wakes up," Sakusa teased, "Unless… You're afraid of missing out on it?"
[Chapter X]
Atsumu 'bolted' straight for the shower room after he got a brief direction of where it was. He didn't quite bolt with pain surging through his battered body, but he shuffled as quickly as he could, ignoring the way his cheeks flared under Sakusa's watchful eyes.
He had not expected the sudden dip in the alpha's voice that bordered between the lines of mirth and sultriness. God- Atsumu was a mess right now.
The mischievous glint in the alpha's dark eyes remained etched on his mind even as he fumbled with his clothes and stepped into the large shower.
Yelping in surprise when hot water came pelting down on his body, he gradually relaxed under the steam.
Sakusa hadn't left him with any other toiletries. Eyeing the bottle of shampoo the alpha used, Atsumu debated against using it, before reasoning that it was probably alright to, considering how he had to stink from running and sweating bullets. Lathering himself up with soap, he sighed in gratification at how good the shampoo smelt. It had to be worth plenty.
Something about smelling like the alpha made Atsumu's heart skip a beat.
His thoughts ran back to a certain tall, brooding curly haired alpha, before steering towards how far down the tattoos on Sakusa's body went. The alpha did say that he had more on his back and- the omega flushed a darker shade of red.
It was as though the treacherous fluttering in his heart and heat stirring in his belly hadn't already given him away.
Atsumu was attracted to Sakusa Kiyoomi, yakuza head of the Itachiyama clan.
A part of Atsumu knew nothing good could ever come out of it, as his past relationships had shown, but something about Sakusa felt different. It ignited a hope in him that he was worth looking at and being fawned over. That he was valued, even as a single parent. That he was attractive, even as an omega none of his partners had loved.
Sakusa made him feel like he was loved.
And it was a crazy feeling that shouldn't have made any sense, considering how he'd just met the alpha in an alleyway.
It felt like fate. Like it was meant to be.
Atsumu's heart twinged in his chest.
Stepping out of the shower, he was relieved when the water stopped automatically. He dried off with the towel Sakusa had passed to him. Staring at the long sleeved linen shirt provided, Atsumu's stomach dropped.
There weren't any pants or underwear.
[Chapter XI]
"𝘋...𝘋𝘸𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘺?"
The moment Sakusa heard this, he reeled back in slight disbelief. Glancing down at the tiny fist gripping onto the hem of his sleeve, a wave of affection gushed- no, flooded his chest at how adorable Nao looked, sitting up sleepily.
His dark hair was like a bird's nest, and it had an abundance of cowlicks. It was endearing.
Sakusa hadn't felt his heart this full in a long time. It was a simple, yet profound kind of happiness the kumicho had been yearning for.
"Hey, little one," The alpha cooed softly, ruffling Nao's hair, heart almost bursting at its seams when the young pup crawled towards him, clambering onto his lap like a child seeking their parent, before squishing his face into his chest.
"Your papa went to take a shower. Did you rest well, Nao?"
The pup nodded, small fingers prodding and tracing at the ink swirling across his chest. Sakusa combed his fingers through  Nao's hair carefully in return, and bounced the little one on his lap.
"Why does Nao-chan like my tattoos so much?" Sakusa inquired fondly.
Nao pulled away, small hands grabbing onto his shirt.
"I like them! They're pwetty!" He beamed, tracing a traditional Japanese cloud tattoo, "It looks better than the purpwle cwayon on papa."
Sakusa's heart shattered. Bitter distaste filled his mouth. God- just what had Nao seen growing up, in a household where one of his parents was abused, and the other, an abuser? Had Nao been subjected to it?
Sakusa felt sick.
The emotions building in his chest were not just empathy, compassion and guilt. There was a fierce overpowering desire to protect, love and cherish. There was also a growing wrath to hurt and give whoever who'd brought upon such pain and hurt to Atsumu and his pup, anguish, tenfold.
"Nao, cupcake, did you ever get hurt there?"
Nao cocked his head, not quite understanding Sakusa's words.
"Did anyone give you or your Papa the ouchies at home?" Sakusa murmured, holding his breath as he stroked the pup's rosy cheeks.
"Only papa," Nao chimed, nuzzling into his chest, "Nao heard papa cwying behind the door. Papa said never to go out or a monstwer would cwatch Nao."
Sakusa exhaled heavily.
A part of him was relieved that Nao never got physically involved, but the other part of him was outraged. How dare anyone lay their filthy hands on his fated pair? How dare anyone hurt Atsumu? How dare anyone abuse an omega? His omega?
"Omi," Nao nudged Sakusa's chest after a minute, looking up at him with large, doe eyes filled with curiosity, "Is Omi Nao's dwaddy?"
Sakusa met Nao's gaze with a look of endearment, "I'm not your daddy, Nao-chan. But I can be."
[Chapter XII]
The sound of slipper-clad feet padding down the hallway, caught Sakusa’s attention. Turning back briefly from a contented Nao drawing on his chest, all the words he had to say, died in his throat at the sight of Atsumu emerging, in his white long sleeved button down.
It was too big on his toned yet slender frame, revealing a tan shoulder and smooth long legs that had the alpha drooling, if it weren't for the purplish bruises and signs of abuse, that made his heart ache.
The sweet scent of honeycomb, cinnamon and spices coming from Atsumu was strong and cloyingly sweet, even under the smell of his body wash. Something about how the omega smelled more like him, brought the alpha in Sakusa wild and very well pleased.
A darker part of him wanted to smother Atsumu in his pheromones, but that could wait.
"Papa!" Nao garbled excitedly, making grabby hands.
Atsumu’s face lightened up, shuffling over awkwardly. He maintained a safe distance, which was strange. Was the omega still afraid of him?
"Atsumu, come sit down. I'll tend to your wounds and bruises," Sakusa offered, ignoring the treacherous part of him that admired the way those firm thighs rippled with every small step the omega took.
Atsumu looked a bit flustered by that. Tugging the hem of the button-down that rested dangerously above his upper thighs, it took a few seconds for things to click in Sakusa's head.
Oh.
He hadn't passed Atsumu any sweatpants or underwear, assuming that they were too big and would simply slip right off.
The knowledge that the omega was all bare except for the linen shirt clinging onto his frame, sent a surge of heat in Sakusa's veins. He resisted the itch building under his fingernails to reach out and caress his fated pair.
"I- it's okay, Omi. You don't need to trouble yourself with that. You've already done so much to help," Atsumu mumbled, cheeks a rosy pink.
"No, I insist, Atsumu," Sakusa spoke firmly, "I don't want those bruises marking your pretty skin for good."
Atsumu's scent turned sweeter.
The alpha took a greedy inhale, before carrying Nao off his lap, and standing to his full height. The pup pouted, eyes watering at being separated from Sakusa.
"I'll go get the medical kit."
Turning away, Sakusa halted in his steps when Nao's milky scent turned sour, a sob tearing from the pup's lips. Atsumu panicked, as did his stomach drop.
"Omi… Dwaddy… Don't go! Don't leave Papa and Nao, dwaddy."
A hitched breath broke the momentary silence in the room.
Sakusa met Atsumu's eyes, blown wide with a mix of shock, disbelief and awe, before it morphed into something the alpha had hoped he wouldn't see.
Disapproval.
"Nao! Don't go spluttering nonsense," Atsumu hissed, averting his gaze, carrying his crying pup, "Omi- Sakusa's not your daddy."
The alpha felt his heart break. It plummeted straight to the ground. But it didn't matter. Sakusa had always been a fighter. He had never given up on the things he wanted.
Having experienced the longing want after giving up on something- someone, he wasn't about to give up again.
"𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦?"
[Chapter XIII]
Sakusa's words carried weight, blanketing the living room with terse silence. It did not sound like a joke or a slip of the tongue.
To say that Atsumu was utterly shell shocked by what the alpha had said, would be an understatement. He was astounded, and at a complete loss for words. Even Nao went quiet, looking on at the exchange quizzically.
It was one thing to feel the compelling tug of fate in his chest, and another, to embrace it altogether, when Atsumu had spent years convincing himself that an omega like himself was never going to experience happiness and boundless affection from an alpha.
Was it okay to be happy? Was it okay to trust another alpha? Was it okay to fall head over heels for someone he'd just met, but felt as though he'd known for a lifetime?
The tension in the air was palpable.
Sakusa and Atsumu gazed into each other's eyes longingly, exchanging what words could not express. Their scents intermingled, along with Nao's milky scent. The living room smelt sweet, warm and homely. It was like this was meant to be. A family.
In Sakusa’s eyes, Atsumu saw a fierce, undying love, fervent want and promise to protect. His breath faltered in his chest.
All the words he wanted to say- every doubt, uncertainty and fear, remained lodged at the back of his throat. Atsumu couldn't bring himself to say anything, enraptured by the alpha before him.
It didn't seem to matter anymore.
There was no use in trying to put on pretences and deny how much the omega wanted the alpha. He could no longer fight the voice inside of him, telling him that this was everything he had ever asked for. To be loved, cherished, and accepted.
Sakusa’s status as a Yakuza kumicho didn't matter. Atsumu being a single parent and an omega scorned for being unlike typical omegas, didn't either.
A part of Atsumu was terrified that he could wind up getting hurt again, but he trusted his gut instincts.
Sakusa wouldn't let that happen.
None of it mattered when the alpha inched forward painfully close, and cradled his cheek with trembling fingers, almost like he was afraid of hurting him. His other hand soothed Nao's hair.
The urge to cry formed a knot at the back of Atsumu’s throat. So this was what happiness was like.
“Give me a chance to prove my worth, Atsumu,” Sakusa murmured softly, lips brushing against his, “Please let me prove that I'm an alpha befitting to be yours, and Nao’s."
Atsumu’s lower lip quivered. It wasn't just a leap of faith for him, but for Sakusa. He couldn't stop the sob that finally ripped its way through his chest. Atsumu nodded once. He was willing to give this a shot.
Atsumu barely registered the softest press of lips on his forehead, before an all encompassing warmth embraced him and Nao, into a place he could finally call home.
"𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥."
[Chapter XIV]
Atsumu had forgotten the warmth one's palms could bring. It was something he hadn't felt in years.
Relaxing under Sakusa's touch, he allowed the alpha to tend to his wounds with tender, loving care, slender digits working down his aching calves.
Rubbing ointment to every bruise that was now a moorish purple, Atsumu's breath caught in his throat when Sakusa looked up from where he was kneeling between his feet, pressing a soft kiss on each and every one of his bruises, starting from the ones littering his ankle.
"Omi, it's dirty-"
"You just took a shower," The alpha huffed, shaking his head, lips continuing its trail up his calves, leaving a fire in its wake.
Eyes blazing with heat, Atsumu could only swallow a pitiful whine at what he saw reflected in those dark eyes that held a galaxy in them.
A promise to protect, paired with fierce passion and utmost adoration.
He felt like an entity being worshipped.
Heart racing in his chest at the devotion the alpha showered him with, it sped up, when Sakusa pulled away to press a kiss on Nao's temple. Atsumu felt slightly giddy, seeing the tiny smile on Sakusa's lips the moment his pup lit up and gave him a wet smooch in return.
"Nao really likes you," He mumbled quietly, fiddling with his fingers.
"Nao doesn't like Omi. Nao loves dwaddy!" Nao all but declared, "Nao loves papa too!"
Atsumu's lips quirked up. Sakusa chuckled.
Atsumu honestly couldn't get his head around how the yakuza kumicho of Itachiyama accepted, and loved not just him, but Nao. It was something he would have never dared to think or dream of.
Relishing in the way calloused fingers worked its way up his thighs, Atsumu briefly wondered when was the last time he'd felt warmth and protection from an alpha. It had to be the last time he was permitted to see his brother, Osamu.
Carrying a then two-year-old Nao to meet his twin, Atsumu recalled that was when the abuse had first started, bruises blooming across his ribs, hidden under his shirt from prying eyes. Brushing away the concern in Samu's knowing eyes, he had lied to Osamu that everything was alright.
Atsumu had never thought that that would be the last time he'd see his brother again.
His abusive partner had forbidden him from meeting his friends and family, going as far as to discard his mobile phone and lash out when Atsumu tried to fight back.
"Atsumu- sweetheart, what's wrong? Am I being too rough?"
Atsumu reeled back. The tears glazing his vision slid down his cheeks. He shook his head.
Sakusa had only been kind and gentle.
It was the memories and trauma plaguing him, that made everything hurt.
A part of Atsumu yearned to get into contact with his brother again, but that was impossible, without a mobile. His lower lip trembled. He missed Samu.
Was Osamu living well? Was he distraught when Atsumu stopped replying altogether? Had he forgotten about him?
After three years, the omega wanted nothing more than to tell his brother that he'd finally managed to run away and escape from his abuser. That Nao and him were finally safe, in what had to be the most dangerous, yet compassionate man's den. That he had found fate, happiness and love, in an alpha he'd never expected, in the shortest time possible.
Sakusa Kiyoomi, yakuza kumicho of Itachiyama.
"Atsumu, 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦-"
Sakusa rose to his feet and took a seat right next to him. Cradling his jaw gingerly, the alpha pumped out pheromones and stroked his cheek in tandem.
"What's wrong?"
"I miss my brother,"Astumu admitted, nails digging into the flesh of his palms, "I haven't had contact with Samu since… since 𝙝𝙚 forbade me from meeting anyone and took away everything."
A growl tore through Sakusa's chest.
"I'll take care of 𝙝𝙞𝙢," Sakusa murmured darkly, "You have my word, Atsumu."
A tremor ran down Atsumu's spine, as did a flare of heat ignite in his belly. He did not dare to think what the kumicho of the Itachiyama syndicate was capable of.
"Try giving your brother a call. I'll take care of Nao," Sakusa's tone softened, retrieving his mobile from his pocket.
Staring at Atsumu wistfully, he whispered, "I cannot imagine being apart from someone you love for so long."
Atsumu took the mobile phone with quivering fingers. How was he ever going to repay Sakusa for everything he'd done? How was he so lucky to have met an alpha who loved and protected this fiercely? How could he possibly express the love and gratefulness in his heart?
Robbed of his speech, Atsumu poured everything he couldn't say into action. He leaned in and gave Sakusa a chaste kiss, heart fluttering at the throaty groan emitting from the alpha's lips.
'Thank you', 'I'm forever indebted' and 'I love you', went unsaid.
[Chapter XV]
The chaste press of lips was enough to stir something all consuming in Sakusa. A low, guttural growl of approval worked its way out of his chest. The surprising forwardness of Atsumu left the alpha yearning for more.
Fingers twitching by his sides restlessly, the kumicho wanted nothing more than to caress the omega’s cheek and lick his way into that hot, slick mouth. A part of him wondered if he was going too far, but seeing how the omega melted under his touch instantaneously, trusting him, left Sakusa’s mind whirling, body moving on autopilot.
Atsumu's lips were plush, soft, and sweet.
He tasted divine, and the homely scent of honeycomb, cinnamon and spices wafting together with the smell of his shampoo was everything Sakusa had ever wanted.
A reflection of warmth on a chilly autumn’s day, the omega carried gold and beauty the alpha simply drowned and relished in. Finding himself chasing after those very lips even after they parted for air, Sakusa was still not satiated.
He wanted more. He wanted Atsumu. He wanted everything the omega had to give.
Was he being too greedy?
Maybe he was, but Sakusa didn't want to frighten Atsumu with the darker side of himself.
The alpha took a steady exhale, nostrils flaring. Swallowing the urge to delve into the heat of those lips, Sakusa ran his digits through blonde hair, lips curling into a smile when the omega purred. Gaze drifting to Nao who'd been staring at them, the alpha was mortified, having kissed Atsumu in front of their pup.
“Take your time on the phone, sweetheart. I'll be in the office next door with Nao,”  The kumicho murmured, glancing back at Atsumu who whispered something into Nao’s ear.
“If you need anything- 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭, just know that I’ll give you my everything.”
Sakusa knew just how important it was for Atsumu to get connected with his family and in particular, his twin brother again.
3 years was not a short period of time.
He couldn't imagine what the omega had to go through, being cut off from his family so abruptly. He was determined to provide all the help Atsumu needed.
The abuse the omega had gone through was hard to stomach. It made Sakusa furious just casting his gaze down the smooth expanse of the omega’s legs, bruises running down its length. The anger only grew, thinking of the things Nao had to experience as a young pup.
Speaking of Nao, Sakusa's heart softened at the sight of a very adorable pup toddling over to him, before clinging onto his thighs.
“Dwaddy, carry, pwease,” Nao asked politely, looking up at Sakusa who loomed over him like a tall, sturdy tree.
The alpha chuckled.
As much as hearing Atsumu talk about his ex partner earlier evoked wrath and anger in him for the umpteenth time, everything melted away carrying a giggling Nao and Atsumu who smiled warmly.
Sakusa was determined to take care of things.
Even if it turned into a bloody mess.
Swallowing his bloodlust, the kumicho kept it tucked away, and parted from Atsumu with Nao bundled into his arms. Halting in his steps when the omega tugged on the hem of his sleeve with a shy look of uncertainty, Sakusa wondered what was wrong.
“What's-”
“Will you… Can- Can you please kiss me again?”
Atsumu’s voice came out small, trailing off.
Sakusa managed to catch it despite the blood roaring through his veins at the omega’s words.
A crushing wave of adoration blanketed him.
Reaching out, the alpha pecked the omega’s forehead, tip of his nose and those soft lips which parted instinctively. Making sure he covered Nao’s eyes this round, Sakusa swallowed the sweetest whine emitting from the back of Atsumu’s throat. He savored how Atsumu tasted like the richest honey, before pulling away.
Everything about kisses shared with the omega was perfect.
[Chapter XVI]
Kissing Sakusa was a near otherworldly experience. Igniting a fire in the pits of his belly, Atsumu had never known this- whatever 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 was, could feel so good. The way the alpha lapped at the roof of his mouth hungrily, his slick, experienced tongue exploring the hot cavern, swallowing every quiet moan like it was a gift given to him.
Everything Sakusa did, felt sublime.
A shudder raked through Atsumu’s body. His knees almost buckled under his weight.
“I won't be able to stop if we continue, Atsumu,” Sakusa admitted truthfully, pulling away with the faintest pink dusting his cheeks.
Atsumu turned a bright hue of red in response. Heart fluttering in his chest, stomach twisted into knots, the way Sakusa made him feel was like he was everything the alpha needed, and ever wanted. Watching the kumicho leave the room carrying Nao like a fatherly figure, a part of Atsumu yearned to say ‘𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰?’.
The more rational part of him chided himself.
There were important things that needed to be done first and foremost.
Atsumu was desperate to speak to Osamu after 3 long years.
Ever since his previous partner had forbidden him to get into contact with his family, it wasn't like the omega hadn't tried sneaking around to call Osamu or find his phone to seek help when the abuse got worse.
Every hope had died in his chest when his ex found out about it and smashed his phone in a fit of anger, throwing it into the corner of the room, nearly hitting Nao. It had been a terrifying lesson for Atsumu, and a tough pill to swallow that the abuse was not okay.
Holding on to a mobile phone again, felt strange. Foreign.
Atsumu still felt as though his ex was going to appear from out of nowhere and start punishing him. His hands shook at the vivid memory, the ache from the bruises on his legs becoming painfully apparent.
Why had he been so foolish not to tell Osamu anything, the last time they met?
It would have never led to this.
Maybe Atsumu would have been safe and protected Nao better. Maybe he wouldn't have had to experience the harshness of a palm slapping across his cheek, a steel-like grip wrapping around his ankle, throwing his balance off, before sock-clad feet jabbed at his ribs. Maybe…
No.
What Atsumu experienced together with Nao had allowed him to meet Sakusa. It was by fate that they were led into Itachiyama, to the kumicho, bringing him to safety, and a place he could finally call home.
An alpha Atsumu trusted and dared to bare his entirety to.
Sakusa.
Atsumu took in a shaky breath, lifting his wrist to sniff his scent glands that had been subtly scent marked before the alpha had left the room with Nao. The scent of sandalwood comforted him, placating the anxiety and bad memories.
It gave him newfound courage.
Touching his lips idly, Atsumu stared at the mobile phone in his hands. He keyed in a number that was etched and engraved into his heart. Tapping on the call button with shaky fingers, the omega dialed the number and held a breath.
A turmoil of mixed emotions surged in his chest. Atsumu’s throat constricted, upon hearing a voice that was all too familiar, even after three long, painful years. Eyes glazing over with tears, a rivulet slipped down his cheeks. Atsumu barely registered its wetness, breath catching in his throat.
“Hello? Miya Osamu speaking.”
“... Samu, it's me.”
The line went silent. Atsumu’s heart fell.
[Chapter XVII]
The pin-drop silence over the other end of the line went on for minutes.
It was uncomfortable, unnerving and tense.
Leaving Atsumu wallowing in anxiety, worry and fear, the omega could not find it in himself to believe that his twin brother might've just hung up on him.
A fresh sheen of tears gathered in his eyes and threatened to run down his cheeks.
"’Samu…?"
The line remained eerily quiet.
Crescent moons formed under nails digging into the flesh of slightly calloused palms. A tremor raked down Atsumu’s form, as did a choked, broken sob tear through his heaving chest. Clutching on to what was left of its remains, with a weak, trembling fist, he could not stop the first rivulet of tears streaking down his cheeks, followed closely by a second, and another.
He had it coming. He deserved this.
It was all his fault.
Atsumu had always known that Osamu was going to hate him for disappearing into thin air, and cutting contact for no rhyme or reason for three whole years.
He should have known better- stood his ground firmly and fought to speak to his brother, even if that meant getting punished severely by his ex. He should have been braver and muster the courage to tell his twin that he was being abused, the last time they met in person. He should have done more.
It didn't matter. Nothing mattered.
The other end of the line was quiet.
Until it wasn't.
Atsumu wailed.
As much as he had hoped that his brother would forgive him, it broke a piece of him, knowing that there was a possibility that he wasn't going to be forgiven anytime soon.
“‘Samu,” Atsumu sobbed brokenly, heart wrenching cries leaving his parted lips.
“...”
“...Yer an idiot.”
Freezing, every sob died in Atsumu’s throat.
The familiar drawl, spoken with a Hyogo accent, hit him. The omega straightened up, sniffling, grip on Sakusa’s phone almost slipping. Hope rekindled and sparked in his chest.
Relief washed over him. Struggling to form a coherent thought, Atsumu whispered the first thing off the bat of his mind.
“W-what’d yer say?”
An incredulous huff, filled with contained anger, rage and hurt, sounded from the other end of the line.
It was vehement.
“I said, yer an idiot, 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦,” Osamu hissed, voice cracking, “Yer a fuckin’ donut.”
Atsumu did not know what triggered the floodgates and dams in his tear ducts to open, but he broke down upon hearing those words. He choked on a watery laugh.
Perhaps it was the memories of Osamu calling him just that, pulling his hair in retaliation, back when they were still pups who had yet to present, and Atsumu shoved him down a dirt path. Perhaps it was the flashback of Osamu chiding him for getting a cut for wielding a kitchen knife wrongly, back when he was learning how to cook from his talented young chef of a brother. Perhaps it was the recollection of Osamu urging him to find a better partner.
Atsumu should have listened.
“How could ya just… Yer left for 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴,” Osamu spat, tone harsh and bitter, “Ma, Rintarou… Damn it! We- 𝘐 thought I'd lost yer, Tsumu.”
Atsumu soaked in every word, heart torn into shreds at how Osamu’s voice wavered, got more gravelly and choked up.
He missed Osamu. He missed bantering with his brother, calling each other names in endearment and making up, no matter how poorly their arguments ended. He missed sharing his deepest secrets with his twin, even when Osamu teased him, before giving good, brotherly advice.
He'd missed Osamu.
They were twins at the end of the day, joined at the hip. They never let one stray away from the other. The bond they shared was one that was unbreakable. They always had each other's back. Yet, the past five years had caused them to drift apart.
Osamu had tried to convince him that something felt off about his partner, and he should reconsider moving in with Nao. Even Suna, his twin’s mate, had looked on at his relationship with concern, pulling him aside to talk, after seeing a strange bruise on his arm.
Atsumu should have really listened.
Not bothering to muffle any of his cries, a gibberish mix of heartfelt apologies and his brother’s name tumbled out of his lips.
“‘mu,” Atsumu hiccuped, face red and blotchy from crying, “S-Samu, I'm so sorry. I-I was… I was terrified.”
Osamu’s breath hitched over the line. His voice tumbled out with an urgency and a low, protective growl.
“What happened, Tsumu? Don't even think about protecting that scumbag alpha. He hurt yer didn't he?” Osamu snarled, “What about Nao? Is he.. Is my little pumpkin okay?”
Atsumu sniffled, smiling weakly. Nodding, he remembered that his twin couldn't see him.
Osamu had always been a doting uncle towards Nao. His brother was his very first pillar of support, back when he found out that he was going to be a single parent. Encouraging him every step of the way alongside Suna and his ma, Atsumu made it through that dark period, only to wind up in an even darker pitfall- a deceptively nice alpha whom he'd ended up having an unhealthy relationship with.
“He's okay, I made sure I kept him in the r-room when.. whenever 𝘪𝘵 happened,” Atsumu whispered, gnawing at his lower lip anxiously, “Samu, I.. I'm really sorry I couldn't call. 𝘏𝘦 broke my phone- threatened to hurt Nao... I couldn't sit by and do nothing, Samu.”
Osamu exhaled sharply.
“Tsumu, what really happened to yer? How badly are ya… More importantly, where are yer now? Please tell me Nao and yer are safe.”
Atsumu made a sound of affirmation, purring at the scent of sandalwood surrounding him. He felt safe in Sakusa’s den.
“Samu, I'm safe. Yer won't believe it, but… I think I found my fated pair,” Atsumu mumbled almost shyly, excitement rippling in his chest, replacing all anxiety and worries.
The line went silent momentarily.
“Atsumu, this isn't a good time to be shitting me,” Osamu sighed softly, almost wearily.
Atsumu would have pouted and shoved his twin in person, for ever doubting him. Then again, all his exes had been absolute trash.
“Samu… Omi has only been kind, considerate and doting. Even though we just met, I don't understand it myself, Samu. I doubted it too. Y’know, being an omega like myself, but he accepted me as I am, helped me, and Nao really likes him,” Atsumu murmured softly, "𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴 him."
Heart warming in his chest, just thinking about the alpha, Atsumu continued, “Sakusa makes me feel like I'm wanted. Not just as an omega but… Me."
Osamu hummed, listening quietly. Something about the name ‘Sakusa’ and ‘Omi’ made him feel uneasy.
“Atsumu, what did ya say his name was? This fated mate yer met?”
Atsumu smiled fondly, rubbing at his wrist where his scent glands had been scent marked earlier.
“Sakusa Kiyoomi.”
Something loud came clambering over the end of the line, followed by a curse.
"𝘖𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘥, Tsumu, yer a huge, giant fuckin' donut."
The line went dead.
