Rational Fashion Part 3
So, let's talk about two supposed "laws" of fashion. The first law is; black always looks good on everyone. Second, that white is not very flattering. Both are completely incorrect. They both misunderstand the importance of skin tone.
When you're too pale, and wear black, you suffer from what I call the Severus Snape effect. You look ghostly and the black actually makes you look even whiter than you actually are. This CAN be helpful, but only when you have a dark complexion. When you're a redhead or something equally as pale, avoid black. Unless you're cool looking like Prof. Snape, then go for it. But, again, what kind of mate finds that attractive? And are you looking for such a person? I would instead reccomend that pale people wear blue, green, brown, and grey. White people, step up your fashion game bro.
Next time, the Draco Malfoy effect!

Rational Fashion Part 2
One of the greatest myths of fashion is that clothes take a person from ugly to sexy. All those teen movies where the ugly girl becomes beautiful are a great example.
But, does that make sense in a rational way? Of course not. I would instead argue that regardless of sexual orientation, we are programmed to find each other attractive. Straight girls like boys, and straight boys like girls. On and on for each combination of sexual orientation.
So, I think the bottom line is that instead of thinking about fashion as a means to beauty. I think it is better to assume that everyone already is beautiful. Regardless of if you view yourself as such. Because your target group (other homosexual males for gay men) is programmed by billions of years of evolution to find you attractive. So, reject the notion that you are ugly. This is simply a marketing scheme to sell you stuff. Instead, think of yourself as coasting off of evolutionary science. Basically, you're beautiful.

Rational Fashion: Part 1
A rational person begins with the end goal in mind. So, what is the goal of fashion? The main goal, as I see it, is to attract a suitable mate. This ensures the continuation of the human species.
So, if the goal of fashion is to attract a suitable mate, then a person must ask themselves, how do I define suitable? Let's assume that any suitable mate has three characteristics; they are attractive, they are intelligent, and they are healthy. I think that, regardless of sexual orientation, most would agree on this.
So, the clothing that you wear is of paramount importance. If you dress like a punk rocker, you will attract a punk rocker who believes that you fit the three criteria. However, is that what you want? If you don't find punk rocker's attractive, then you are sending the incorrect signal to any potential mates. Therefore, I would ask anyone to consider what type of signal their clothes are sending. And then to ask themselves, is that the qualities I want my spouse to have? If the answer is no, then why do you wear such garments?
